Guilty pleas draw prison time in court BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
A couple of defendants will serve time behind bars following guilty pleas during the recently completed term of Alcorn County Circuit Court. ■ Christopher Justin Jones
received a net eight-year sentence in custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to charges contained in four separate indictments, including one for grand larceny, a two-count indictment for credit card fraud
and grand larceny, another for burglary of a dwelling, and an indictment out of Prentiss County for grand larceny. He must also pay fines and restitution. ■ Christopher Rouse, 23, pleaded guilty to burglary of a
dwelling and was given a 25year sentence with 20 years suspended, leaving five years to serve followed by five years of probation. He must pay a $1,000 fine and $450 restitution to the victim. The crime happened at a
Corinth residence on Nov. 19, 2014. During sentencing, Judge Paul Funderburk asked Rouse why the particular residence was chosen. Rouse replied that it was because nobody was there. Please see SENTENCES | 3

Free to the public, the Easom Community Garden will open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 5:30 p.m. during the season. This year the foundation’s volunteer planter, Danny Fingers, has planted purple hull peas, green beans, snap peas, okra, cucumbers, tomatoes and squash. Greens will be planted later in the fall. In addition to making wholesome veggies available to the public, the fresh vegetables are also used to support the center’s hot meals program.
