Lightning ruled cause of T&R blaze The Corinth Fire Department received a call on July 1 just after 11 p.m. about a fire at the business, according to the chief. The fire had quickly spread throughout the building when all four fire trucks responded. The building and its contents, which was a total loss, continued to burn and smolder days following the fire. “The building contained all types of oils and lubricants,” said Price. “When we got there it was full of smoke and under pressure — trying to push out every crack in the building.” T & R is listed on its website as “the Largest Volume Polaris Dealer in Mississippi.” Reporter Bobby J. Smith contributed to this article.

Iuka needs reenactors for 150th battle event BY BOBBY J. SMITH bjsmith@dailycorinthian.com
The commanding officer of the 48th Tenn. Infantry regiment of reenactors has issued a call for volunteers to help bring the 150th Anniversary Battle of Iuka event to life. “Anyone interested in being a reenactor, it’s no big thing — all you’ve got to do is have the want,” said Barry Ayers, captain of the regiment. “If you want to, you can do it.” Ayers is helping to organize the event, slated for Labor Day weekend on a 250-acre battlesite near Iuka. It will include school days educational events, military drills, skirmishing, living history demonstrations, a Battle of Iuka descendants reunion, a Grand Ball and the main battle on Sunday, Sept. 2. The event’s organizers are offering a $100 bounty for the first 10 cannons to register. Any walk-on participants are welcome. “Men will come on Friday in blue jeans and we can have
them in Saturday’s fight,” said Ayers. The reenactors will move into the camp site on Friday, Aug. 31. A detachment of soldier and civilian reenactors will be on hand by the Old Tishomingo County Courthouse to talk about reenacting, the uniforms and equipment and the daily lives of Civil War-era soldiers. Once on the site, the reenactors will remain there until Sunday afternoon, Ayers said. “We’ll sleep there, eat there and cook there,” he said. Any time during the weekend, spectators will be welcomed into the reenactors camps. “You can come any time, day or night, and see us do our hobby,” he said. Saturday’s activities will include a skirmish based on General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s raid on Eastport. “It was a Federal camp, with up to 23,000 troops. Gen. Please see IUKA | 2A
