Showedo raises funds for 4-H BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
The 4-H Horse Club is almost halfway home. The club’s third of six shows scheduled for the year will be held Saturday with the Alcorn County Showdeo set for 6 p.m. in the barn area of the Crossroads Arena. “The kids have a lot of fun with all money raised will be used to purchase awards for the end of the year banquet,” said volunteer leader Cathy Potts. Registration for the event is scheduled for 4-5:30 p.m. The
show is open to all youngsters age 8-18 as of Jan. 1. “This has been our best year,” added Potts. “When we started four years ago, we had maybe 20 that registered but not all of them showed.” The number has increased to near 50 as the club gets ready for next weekend’s district meet in Verona. “We are getting there,” said the volunteer leader whose two teenagers (Jordan Cavaness and Cody Potts) will take part in Saturday’s show. “We hope to have some clinics in the future to let others know
more about the club.” Saturday’s events will include such divisions as Halter, Gaited Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Arena Race, Stake Race and Goat Tying. An entry fee of $3 is required to participate in each class. There will be no charge for those there to watch. Concessions will be available and T-shirts will also be available to purchase. He took the flight in the 17th and 20th annual events at Shiloh Ridge. Mottz recently teamed with Eric Russell to claim the Wayne Mills Invita-
