Head Start eyes former school site BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

Mississippi Action for Progress on Tuesday submitted a written request for the vacant East Corinth Elementary School to the Board of Aldermen, and the city is preparing to re-advertise for bids on the

it is to the organization. “However, we are willing to negotiate other options for your consideration,” states the letter from MAP CEO Bobby E. Brown. “We are willing to enter into a procurement agreement such as the one that was negotiated and approved for the

West Corinth school property due to an irregularity in the bid process. MAP’s request to use the East campus for a combined Head Start facility is the only one currently on the table for that campus. MAP is asking the city to consider donating the facility as

[South] Elementary school.” Regional Manager Deborah Cooper presented the letter. “We are still very interested in the property,” she said. MAP wants to bring the Corinth and Kendrick head start centers to the building. The cost of getting the building

ready for that use is expected to be substantial. The board voted to re-advertise for bids for the West Corinth school property after previously accepting the Siege & Battle of Corinth CommisPlease see MAP | 2

IUKA — ATK’s Aerospace Structures will soon be adding more jobs at their Iuka facility. Last month, ATK was awarded an $178 million contract as part of the Air Force’s Phase 1 work on the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle, a launch system used by the United States government for sending U.S. military satellites into space. The contract consists of a variety of composite structures set to be fabricated at the Iuka facility. “The new contract will definitely add more jobs in Tishomingo County, but we are still unclear at this time just how many,” said Tishomingo County Development Foundation Executive Director Gary Mathews. “I know they have already started hiring some preliminary people for the project, but not many.” Mathews is excited ATK was able to secure the contract.

Gary Mathews Tishomingo County Development Foundation executive director “This is great for the area,” added Mathews. “Additional jobs and more private investment in the community is wonderful.” The more than 320,000 square foot manufacturing facility near Pickwick Lake employs around 100 people. Leadercast brings inspiration for Corinth leaders BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

An opportunity to find inspiration and motivation to lead is coming to Corinth. Tickets are available for Friday’s Leadercast event at Crossroads Arena with big names such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Malcolm Gladwell.

Among others, they will appear by video transmission on a giant HD screen on the arena stage. “Regardless of where you’re at in your leadership journey, this conference has something to offer,” said organizer Brent McCarty. He is an employee of Caterpil-

lar, which is hosting the event with Kimberly Clark and Magnolia Regional Health Center. It is the first year that Corinth is a participating site in the annual simulcast, which will be broadcast from Atlanta to hundreds of locations. Caterpillar had a large group attend last year’s event in Ox-

ford. “We decided this would be really good for the community, from youth to leaders within industries and private businesses,” said McCarty. A number of free tickets are being distributed to students in Alcorn and McNairy counties. The lineup of speakers in-
