Caterpillar facilities in Corinth and Booneville will add workers as remanufacturing of an engine line moves to Corinth.
The local plant will pick up remanufacturing of the 3500 series engine from the Caterpillar facility in Lafayette, Ind., where new 3500 engines are produced. The move will add 41 jobs in Corinth and four in
Booneville, along with a substantial capital investment. “Caterpillar has been a great partner for many years,” said Mayor Tommy Irwin. “It’s obvious Caterpillar sees Corinth as a place they want to invest in. It

A fight in the jail at the Alcorn County Justice Center sent three inmates to the hospital. Sheriff Ben Caldwell said a fight broke out among inmates around 4 p.m. Thursday. Three inmates involved in the altercation received medical care after being transported to Magnolia Regional Health Center. “It was over pretty quick,” said Caldwell. “Due to the quick reaction of jail staff, our sheriff deputies and Corinth police officers, we were able to take control of the situation.” Caldwell said one of the inmates taken to the hospital received staples in the head from a laceration he received during the fight. “Those inmates involved are now back at the jail,” he said. An investigation is ongoing, and Caldwell said additional charges would be filed against the instigators of the fight.
