AAWL to host holiday fundraiser The Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers (AAWL) will host their annual holiday brunch and silent auction on Dec. 8, 2018. Starting at 10 a.m. at Next Level Events, the funds raised will be utilized to support scholarships for budding women law students in Arkansas. The event is a great opportunity to gather with friends and colleagues to enjoy holiday food and beverages, socialize and network – all while shopping unique items to support the AAWL scholarship endowment. Since 2009, AAWL has awarded $10,000 in scholarships each year based on funds raised at the annual brunch. At this time, AAWL is in need of sponsors, with an approaching
Nov. 23, 2018 deadline. SCARA BRINGS HOME THE PRESTIGIOUS TITLE OF ARKANSAS REALTOR® OF THE YEAR CONGRATULATIONS, AMY EDEN
Amy received this award at the 94th Arkansas REALTORS® Convention which was held this year in Hot Springs. She received the title out of 25 VERY qualified and worthy contestants. Like Mike Ford, the Event coordinator, and former Arkansas REALTOR® of the Year recipient stated, “they are ALL already winners”. She took the title and brought it back home to SCARA. Yes, that is correct back home! It was just in 2016 that Paulette Richie won the same title. GREAT NEWS! Everyone is so excited and proud for Amy and her many accomplishments. Way to go, Amy!

WHY EARLY VOTING MATTERS By HOM Editor As citizens, we have the power through elections to decide who or what policies represent us in our communities and at the national level. Thirty-seven states allow eligible voters to cast their vote early. Early voting gives
people a chance to get to the polls before Election Day. A typical day for many Americans has changed drastically since the original voting laws were written, and confining a vote to just one day for only 8-12 hours simply does not work or benefit the electorate. Those with childcare duties or limiting work schedules, lessens the time it takes to vote. Early voting allows eligible voters to visit an official election office or other satellite voting locations, and cast a vote in-person without needing to offer an excuse for why the voter is unable to vote on Election Day. The ability to early vote can ease stress levels and increase voter satisfaction. The midterm campaigns are in full swing with candidates and state and local referendums being discussed and debated right now. Does your state allow early voting? The more people that vote the greater chance of electing leaders that are truly reflections of the communities, cities, states and the country they represent.

CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING ALL REALTORS® are mandated by the National Association of REALTORS® to take Code of Ethics training every 2 years in order to remain in good standing and maintain membership. The current “cycle” or period will end December 31, 2018. If you are not certain as to whether or not you need COE training, I will be sending your broker a list of those remaining to take the course. You can also call the association office. The course CAN BE TAKEN ONLINE for FREE at www.realtor.org/codeofethics. New members who have not attended a new member orientation class yet are required to take the course before doing so. Renewing members can also take the course FREE online. You can also complete this requirement by taking a CE class that has this requirement in its course outline and email your certificate of completion to the SCARA office. I will update this information in the NRDS database so you will be in compliance.
