INSIDE EQUIFEST

Box offices are located on both the north and south side of Tony’s Pizza Events Center (TPEC).

Tickets (wristbands) are available daily at the box office March 21, 22, and 23. Single days are $25, and 3-day is $60. Kids 12 and under are free but require a wristband from the box office so we can try to count everyone to show our sponsors how big this event really is!

EquiFest Workshops and Lectures are in two locations. Come to the 4H Building Stage or to the Workshop Rooms upstairs from the TPEC Lobby (or up the elevator if you choose). The lineup is for learning. We hope you find something helpful and interesting!

Shopping can be found in many locations! Vendors are in Tony’s Pizza Events Center around the Arena Concourse and in the Great Plains Manufacturing & Convention Hall (GPMCH). Additionally, at Saline County Expo Center (SCEC) 4H Building, Kenwood Hall, Stall Barn and in front of Ag Hall, plus some great food trucks are on site. While you’re there, check out Barn 2 where the Farrier Contest is happening on Friday and Saturday!

Food is available at premium food trucks outside Ag Hall or at TPEC Concession stands on both sides of the concourse.

Kids Corral is in the 4H Building where your littles can unwind and be entertained by some of the great displays and games available. Look for the big red barn.

Clinicians feature amazing talent with Tik Maynard and colt starting, Ty Evans with Mulemanship, Jay & Gena Henson in all things Versatility Ranch. More learning can be had with Daniel Dauphin—a trainer, entertainer and bit master, and enjoy the Working Equitation team from Kansas. Watch the schedule to know where you can catch each clinic.

Stall Barn Tours happen daily. Meet at the Kansas Horse Council Booth 5 minutes before each scheduled tour time to enjoy a guided stall barn tour to see the Military Encampment and breeds on display. Come learn about horses and history!

Arenas are located on both properties. TPEC Arena is where you’ll find clinicians and competitions daily and our signature Ranch Rodeo on Friday and Saturday nights. The SCEC Ag Hall Arena is a historic brick building built with 1922 war bonds. It’s a nostalgic arena where you’ll catch competitions, demonstrations, clinics and more. Check the schedule to know where to go!

Foundation Silent Auction is a tradition serving as the primary academic scholarship fundraiser for equestrian youth in Kansas. Visit and support, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Another opportunity to support includes the 50/50 raffle during the Ranch Rodeo. Our KS Rodeo Royalty are actively involved in supporting the KS Horse Council Foundation Scholarship fundraising. If you have questions, be sure to talk to one of these outstanding representatives!

Catch the First ever BreyerMidwest at EquiFest in Kenwood Hall!

We are so glad you are joining us for the 28th Annual EquiFest of KS!

DANIEL DAUPHIN

CLINICIANS

Raised in Louisiana, Daniel had a passion for horses from an early age. Not being born into a family with horses, he rode with a childhood friend’s family regularly before he finally earned and saved enough money to buy his own horse at the age of 16 without his parents knowing about it. Attending La Tech University, Daniel graduated with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1999. Daniel spent about 6 years apprenticing under three different cutting horse trainers and has started horses amassing winnings of well over $1 million in cutting including finalists in major aged events and the only horse from Louisiana to ever make the NCHA World Championship Futurity Finals. Daniel passionately uses his knowledge and experience to help others become safer, smarter, and more comfortable and confident in their own horsemanship. He has worked with riders as young as two to those up into their 70’s. He’s also worked with many different breeds and riders of all disciplines, from beginners to college equine behavior and training classes, to world champs, and even continuing education for pros at large lesson barns. Daniel spent 3 years making a 5-1/2-hour video on bits and bitting. It has been very well reviewed and received and is even being used as a teaching tool in over 25 Equine Sciences/Studies programs in various US universities.

TY EVANS

Ty Evans, along with his wife, Skye, and daughters, Ellie and Swayzee, travel worldwide teaching Mulemanship clinics. These clinics are geared toward helping mule and rider build a connection that lasts and focuses on helping the human have a better experience with their mule, and for the mule to have a better experience with their human. Ty enjoys helping individuals establish a partnership with the mule to develop clearer communication between each other. The style of Mulemanship Ty teaches not only works great for mules, but is also very much applicable to horses and donkeys as well. At Ty's clinics, the main goal is to bring out the best in the mule, and by doing so it also brings out the best in the people.

TIK MAYNARD

Tik Maynard was in Pony Club from ages 6 to 21. He achieved his ‘A’ level in 2002. He was Canadian National Champion in Tetrathlon (2000). He was part of the National Champion Team in PPG (1997), and part of the Canadian Team that won gold in Kentucky in 1998. Tik received his Bachelor of Arts (History) from the University of British Columbia in 2005. For much of his twenties Tik competed full time in the sport of Modern Pentathlon (running, swimming, shooting, fencing, show jumping). Tik was on the Canadian National Team and won the National Championships twice. He also competed at multiple World Cups, World Championships, and at the 2007 PanAm Games in Rio. After spending 3 years as a working student, he became the assistant trainer to Anne Kursinski, then the head trainer at Bow Brickhill Stables in New Jersey. After marrying Sinead, one of the top 3-day eventers in the world, Tik started his own business. In 2016, after Tik and Sinead bought Copperline Farm in Citra (just north of Ocala), they merged their businesses into one. LEGENDARY KANSAS HORSEMEN

The Legendary Kansas Horsemen’s panel features talented horse men and women who have achieved high recognition such as Hall of Fame status for themselves or their horse, who have provided outstanding service to the equine industry in some capacity or who have earned high winnings in their discipline. It’s a great opportunity to hear their stories directly with reflections on past and present experiences, and we can pick up some sage advice from them too!

Saturday w 1:45pm-2:45pm w TPEC Workshop Room

Pat Vaughn grew up in Garden City in town. He used to hang around the race barn at the fairgrounds when he was a kid. He also liked to go out to the roping club and untie calves. Pat was around Otis Jennings’ family a lot. Otis was always my idea of a cowboy. He got his first horse to run his bird dogs within the late 1960's. Pat moved to North Platte, Nebraska in 1970, went to work for the Nebraska Farmer and called on farmers every day. He probably got to meet every good horseman in Nebraska one time or another. All of them taught me something. Pat started trading a few horses, roping and doing day work. He moved back to Kansas in 1980, then was moved to Colorado with the same job. He lived in the San Luis valley for a few years and got to know the Wiescamps. Pat started making a few bits in the early 1980's when he was in Colorado. He came back to Kansas in about 1985, day worked, did some shoeing, and made lots of bits. In 1989, Pat went to the Texas panhandle and made bits full time. He got to be friends with the "best." Pat kept his horses at Reed Hill's for about 10 years until Reed and John R. passed. He met a lot of great horsemen there. Pat was in Texas for 21 years. He moved back to Kansas in 2010, still making lots of bits and spurs. Guess it's just what he does.

Tiny Marston had a lifetime of enjoyment owning horses, been an AQHA most of my life, and was lucky enough to have a neighbor, Ron Crowthers, who was one of the nation’s top breeders in the 1960’s & 1970’s. For a horse crazy kid, it was perfect. I’ve had a chance to work with some of the top breeders and trainers in Kansas. They each gave me knowledge to be a good horseman. I’ve always kept some broodmares, for that’s the best way to tell that summer is coming, when the colts start coming. He has loved showing, rodeos and making good horses.

She has traveled through over 3/4th the country to perform in front of sold-out audiences and had performances aired on The Cowboy Channel. Liberty’s performances have been described as fast, fearless, fun and flashy. Horses were not new to Liberty when she began trick riding. She is a third generation rodeo cowgirl and comes from a competitive rodeo family known for training quality horses. Liberty has ridden since she was a baby and began competing in youth rodeos at age 5. She was in the Top 20 at the National Little Britches Finals Rodeo in 2020 in barrel racing. She has also held several rodeo princess titles. Liberty has experience in many equine disciplines including several rodeo events, equestrian jumping and reining. Her newest equine endeavor is bridleless and liberty work. Because of her vast experience, she is a versatile and knowledgeable rider at a young age. A true horse whisperer, she develops amazing heart-felt bonds with the horses she works with. Since Liberty’s toddler years, she dreamed of being a trick rider. At age 8, she began lessons and performed her first show just a couple of months later with the Pegasus Riders. Liberty expanded to Roman riding at age 10. At age 12, she became one of the youngest contract act entertainers in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Since she became a trick rider, she has won several awards including being the 2021 Dusti Dickerson Youth Trick Riding Competition Champion. Performing with her friend Maddy under the name Pegasus Riders, she was the top scoring trick riding act at the International Finals Rodeo Contract Act Showcase. Liberty has differentiated herself by incorporating jumps, leaps, handstands, and acro flips atop her team of horses. Liberty developed this signature style through her dance background. She began dancing at age 3 and doing aerial at age 9. She has trained in jazz, lyrical, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, tap, musical theater, acro, aerial hammock, aerial silks and lyra. She’s won several awards including being a 2021 Prestige Dance National Champion. Liberty attends public school where she is an 8th grader. She is in her school’s gifted education program and participates in Advanced Choir and theater productions. She is a Principal Aerialist for the Cirque de l’air Cascades Company in Kansas City. In her spare time she enjoys reading and playing with her dog and cat. She lives with her mom and older siblings Lakin and Lane in Louisburg, Kansas. RANCH RODEO RULES

Don’t miss the ever-popular EquiFest of Kansas Ranch Rodeo Friday, and Saturday nights. The competition is tough and exciting. Teams compete for prizes and bragging rights for who is the BEST at what they do every day. This gives spectators insight into the life of a ranch worker and some of the daily duties from roping, riding, and working as a team to bring home the beef! Grandstands fill up and teams may be different each night, so grab your seat early and enjoy the pre-event festivities. Watch for Kansas Rodeo Royalty who will be selling raffle tickets in the stands as a benefit for the Kansas Horse Council Foundation Scholarship Program. Get your tickets for a chance to win half the sum and know you are also supporting youth involved in the horse community who are heading to college!
