PETER B. FREUND It’s hard to know where to begin when recounting the season we have all experienced intertwined with the immense personal and emotional challenges that so many of us faced during this global pandemic.

I’ve heard from so many supporters, some of whom have lost jobs, faced mental anguish or whose loved ones have suffered during this unprecedented time in our history. This year has taught me what this football club means to all of you on a deeply personal level and in many ways, despite not having been able to attend a match live until today, it played an even larger role in all of our lives. So I think it’s fair to say, win, lose or draw, there is a tremendous sense of relief to have some level of normalcy back at Victoria Road today. Despite not being able to fly to the UK for a match this season, I feel even more connectivity than ever to all of you and our club through social media, live streams (with James Glass and Mick Payne keeping me company with their commentary), zoom directors meetings and even our first (and hopefully last) virtual fans forum. And though we will fall just short of the playoffs as the season comes to a close, what I have learned about this club over the course of the season is it’s about so much more than what happens on the pitch. With that said, we all still share the same goal and desire to return to the Football League and I believe we took a massive step forward this year and have finally found the right mix of leadership and talent who understand what it means to be a Dagger! Stars were born (and reborn) and under Daryl’s guiding hand, we are playing the kind of football we all wanted to see from the time our American consortium took over the club. We have quite a bit of work to do this off-season in order to secure many of the players who now make up the core of our club and its culture. We have already begun discussions with several of them who are not under contract and will do

our best to always do what is right from a big picture perspective when negotiating terms. It’s important to note that though we would love to keep every player who has made a positive impact this season, these decisions must take into account the long term financial stability of Dagenham & Redbridge FC as well. We are also thrilled to announce that beginning next week, in partnership with West Ham Women, a massive investment is being made to build an entirely new pitch and irrigation system which will be completed this summer. Once finished, we will have the best playing surface in the league, something our players, supporters and community at large can be proud of! We will also continue to invest in the fan experience as well, with new merchandise on order and a new away kit reveal forthcoming. And if all works out as planned, I will see all of you for our first match in East London at the start of the 2021-22 campaign! Today we say goodbye (but not farewell) to Tony Payne, our club secretary & safety officer. Tony has been with this club for a dozen years and I speak on behalf of the entire board of directors when I say his shoes will not easily be filled. That said, Charlie Fraser, who has been shadowing Tony for the past year,

will replace him as secretary and do an outstanding job as well. I also want to take a moment to thank Jamie Honeyman and Sean Stone, our two groundsmen, for their sterling work taking care of our pitch. And with the immense challenges behind the scenes of this COVID season, I would be remiss to not thank Steve Thompson and his team (including Chris Pollard and Ben Jones) for everything they have done – no individual cares or works harder to ensure the longevity and success of Dagenham & Redbridge FC than Steve does. And finally, a massive thank you to ALL of our loyal sponsors including West & Coe, Chigwell Construction, SD Samuels, Acelux, Brunel Shipping, to name just a few, who stood with us during this unprecedented time in history. DARYL McMAHON Good afternoon and welcome to the Chigwell Construction Stadium, I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Dean Keates and his backroom staff ahead of this afternoon’s game. On the past week

We have enjoyed the week’s training and we are looking forward to the game. Obviously, it is a big game for us with the fans coming back in and our family back in as well. It is a good occasion against a good side in Wrexham who have had a particularly good season and with the game being live on BT Sport, it gives things a bit of added spice. On next season

We have got one more game to go and I want us to finish strongly and then we will worry about next season. We will have a break and then it will be about getting ready for pre-season. It is a long old season once you start again so we just focus now on Wrexham and making sure that we put in a good performance.

On squad availability

We are not sure that Macca, Angelo, and Mauro will be ready for today, but we will give them every chance to be available. Like you would expect, everybody wants to play the last game of the season, especially now with the pandemic we have all been through and with fans being

allowed back in the ground. It is almost an extra incentive for the players to play. We hope they are going to be fit, we are just not sure yet.

On today’s game

Wrexham are competitive, they play in a similar shape to ourselves, and they have three players I managed at Macclesfield Town (Fiacre Kelleher, Theo Vassell, and Jay Harris) who are all good footballers, so we already know what to expect. It will be a tough game but again, like I keep saying, we are looking forward to it and it is another opportunity to test ourselves against a side who are in that play-off spot. We want to be challenging next year, but we can hopefully lay down a marker this year going into the summer. A message to the fans

Thank you for your support. I did the Fan Forum about a month ago now and we had a Members’ Meeting last week as well. It was great to see some fans again and to chat with them about the season, explaining a few bits and bobs, which was nice. Now we are looking forward to having the stadium buzzing again, and hopefully the crowd are noisy and get behind the team. We are looking forward to seeing everyone!

THE OPPOSITION

WREXHAM THEDRAGONSI MEET THE KEY MEN After two years as a pro with the Canaries, Hall-Johnson signed for Maidstone United in the National League. In 2016 he signed for Braintree Town making 25 league appearances with his performances for the Essex club earning an EFL move to Grimsby Town the following year. He made his debut in a 3-1 loss to Cambridge United in League Two. Hall-Johnson departed Grimsby in the summer of 2019 and signed for Northampton Town. In August 2020 he became the fourth summer recruit ahead of the 2020/21 campaign for Wrexham. Manager DEAN KEATES Dean re-joined Wrexham as manager for the second time in October 2019, having taken up the offer to switch to his hometown club Walsall in March 2018 and kept the club in League One, but left a little over a year later in April 2019 – after 60 games in charge of the Saddlers, he returned to Wrexham. In October 2016, Keates replaced Gary Mills as Wrexham’s manager, following a period as interim, and lifting the club towards the promotion places a year later, which attracted Walsall to swoop and take him up two divisions.

3 – Jamie Reckord Reckord began his career with hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers, signing youth forms from the age of nine. The full-back stayed with Wolves for nine years before signing professional terms with the Premier League side. Once signed as a pro, Reckord had a spree of loan spells, initially joining Northampton Town in League Two. In August 2020 he became Wrexham’s first signing ahead of the 2020/21 campaign penning a one-year contract.

1 - Rob Lainton | Goalkeeper Lainton signed in the summer of 2018 on a season long loan from Port Vale. That loan moved was made permanent in November 2018 and he extended his stay further by agreeing terms on a new deal in the summer of 2019. Initially a youngster with Bolon Wanderers, he left the Macron Stadium in July 2013 to join Bury and spent four seasons with the Shakers.

4 – Theo Vassell Vassell began his career with Stoke City having been spotted as a youngster playing for Hanley Town and spent almost a decade with the Potters. In 2015 he signed for Oldham Athletic before continuing his development with a loan spell at Chorley. He went on to sign for Macclesfield Town at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

Defenders 2 – Reece Hall-Johnson A youth product of Norwich City, HallJohnson came through the ranks of the Premier League outfit picking up an FA Youth Cup winners' medal.

With financial trouble at Moss Rose, Vassell followed manager Sol Campbell to Southend United later that season but was unable to sign due to a transfer embargo at the beginning of the season's halt due to COVID-19.

He departed Roots Hall without the opportunity to appear for United and signed for Wrexham on a one-year deal ahead of 2020/21. 5 - Shaun Pearson (Club Captain) Experienced defender Shaun Pearson signed for the Reds in the summer of 2017 and brought a wealth of knowledge in the National League to the side. Beginning life with Spalding United in 2006, the York-born centreback rose up the non-league ranks with Stamford and Boston United. In 2011, he joined Grimsby Town where he would become a club icon, remaining with the club for six years and playing at Wembley in two play-off finals and an FA Trophy loss to Wrexham in 2013. Pearson spent a year in League Two before his release and made over 200 league appearances at Blundell Park. As a free agent Dean Keates quickly brought the defender to the Racecourse, signing a two-year deal. 16 – Cameron Green Signed after a trial period with the club in early April. A former full back with Watford, who was released in the summer of 2020 and had been training with QPR since. 22 – Fiacre Kelleher A late summer signing from Macclesfield Town, following the Cheshire club’s demotion into the National League, the Irishman switched after two seasons in the EFL. There were season long loans with both Solihull Moors and Macclesfield Town earlier on, before joining the Silkmen in 2019. After some 80+ games at London Road, where he was captain, Fiacre moved over the border to north Wales. 25 – Tyler French The defender began his career in the depths of non-league playing as a

youngster with the likes of Long Melford, Hadleigh United and later AFC Sudbury. French had trials with several Championship and Premier League clubs including Barnsley, Charlton Athletic, Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace and Leicester City. He made 19 appearances in the first half of Bradford City’s campaign before departing the club by mutual consent in January 2020. Just 24 hours later he signed a shortterm deal with Wrexham. Midfielders 6 – Jay Harris A former Wrexham player who returned to the club in the January 2020 window, when leaving Macclesfield Town and signing on at the Racecourse for 18 months. The Liverpool-born player was on Everton’s books as a youngster, before leaving to sign professionally for Accrington Stanley in 2006, playing 70+ times in two seasons and then another 30+ times for Chester in 2008/09. Then he signed for Wrexham in 2010, becoming a firm fans’ favourite with 219 appearances through to the summer of 2015, when Tranmere Rovers took him to Merseyside for another 150+ games for the Prenton Park side. Macclesfield signed him last summer, but the many off-field problems at Moss Rose saw a number of players leave the Cheshire club, with Jay returning to the Racecourse once again. 8 – Luke Young The first signing of summer 2019, with the midfielder agreeing a two-year

Jarvis landed in North Wales on a deal that would take him to 2021 and would make his debut 24 hours after the signing was complete against Woking in the National League. 14 - Paul Rutherford Liverpool-born wide midfielder Paul Rutherford joined Wrexham in the summer of 2016.

Under Mark Hughes he was given his first taste of senior football with involvement in the first-team setup during pre-season.

Rutherford began his career with Liverpool before signing youth forms with the old Chester City in 2003. After two years he signed professional terms. In 2009, he joined Barrow and went on to score nine times in over 160 league appearances for the Bluebirds. Following four years at Holker Street Rutherford signed for Southport. With the Sandgrounders, he made over a century of appearances in the National League before opting to depart in 2016. The midfielder joined Wrexham on a one-year deal and made his debut against Dover Athletic on the opening day of the season. 29 – Jordan Davies Wrexham native Jordan Davies came through the youth ranks at Wrexham and was touted as one of the club's most talented youngsters. Having moved to Brighton & Hove Albion, Davies decided in the summer of 2020 to depart the South Coast.

The Swiss-born striker came to the UK in 2017 and after score 9 goals in 16 starts for Whitehawk was picked up by Bury. After a season at Gigg Lane he switched to Yeovil Town for 2019/2020, but with the pandemic curtailed activities he was left without a club for the current season. A trial with FC Halifax Town saw him play 4 times before he was picked up by Gloucester City in January 2021 and he scored on his debut – but more bad luck as City were closed down when the National League suspended play a week later! Forwards 9 – Jordan Ponticelli Attack minded Ponticelli began his career with hometown club Coventry City. Ponticelli made his debut in August 2017 in the EFL Cup, with Coventry bowing out in a 3-1 loss at home to Blackburn Rovers. After a frustrating spell at Prenton Park he arrived at the Racecourse in January 2020, making his debut in a 2-0 win over Harrogate Town. A week later he scored his first goal for the club away at Chesterfield before netting a week later at Bromley. He returned to Coventry but in August 2020 Wrexham successfully signed Ponticelli on a two-year deal. 18 – Chris Sang Sang was with Bury as a youth player and then joined Barnsley. The Liverpoolbased striker was another on trial last month and signed before the registration deadline.

After a loan with Banbury United he made over 30 appearances for the Moors before earning a move to Kidderminster Harriers in 2013. Goals from Mauro Vilhete, Paul McCallum, and Angelo Balanta secured the Daggers a comfortable 3-0 win over FC Halifax Town at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. Mauro Vilhete gave the Daggers the lead midway through the first half, volleying Matt Robinson’s cross past Halifax ‘keeper Sam Johnson. The hosts' advantage was doubled seconds before the break when Paul McCallum rose highest to head Will Wright’s free-kick in at the near post. Balanta got in on the action ten minutes after the restart, turning Vilhete’s low ball home after another set piece in favour of the Daggers. And with a three-goal advantage, the hosts were able to secure another win, their seventh from the last eight games. Two minutes after the game kicked off, Angelo Balanta almost gave Daryl McMahon’s Dagenham side the perfect start. Controlling Elliot Johnson’s long ball forward, the Colombian took a touch to settle himself, before blasting his effort agonisingly wide of the top-left corner. 14 THE DAGGER

However, the visitors quickly settled into the game and in the ninth minute, they came close to finding the back of the net after a good period of play which saw them with the ball just inside the box. However, Tahvon Campbell’s effort took a deflection and the Daggers’ defence cleared the resulting corner. In what was proving to be an action-packed opening 15 minutes, the hosts were starting to enjoy a greater share of possession. After referee Matthew Russell awarded Dagenham a free-kick on the left wing, Wright’s deep ball found Callum Reynolds running in at the far post, with the centre back unable to keep his header on target. After a run of seven goals in five games, McCallum was looking to continue his excellent run of form but in the 21st minute, he connected with an excellent ball into the box from Joey Jones. However, under pressure from his marker, the resulting header was high and wide. Despite their recent inconsistencies, Halifax looked a side keen on securing a result today and less than 60 seconds later, Jeff King was left disappointed not to have found the back of the net, having had all the space in the world to pick out the far corner, only to leave Elliot Justham untroubled.

Returning to the starting line-up, George Saunders was enjoying himself against the visiting back four and on the half hour mark, he found himself in the right place at the right time to pick McCallum out on the edge of the six-yard box. With a little more time to take aim, the experienced striker was left frustrated to miss by a matter of inches. The Shaymen were beginning to sit deep as McMahon’s men started to hit their rhythm. Sixty seconds after almost assisting the opener, Saunders came within a whisker of putting it on a plate for Balanta. Collecting a smart Robinson through ball, the former Hornchurch winger’s ball was just an inch away from being turned home. As the half grew on, it seemed as though a goal was only a matter of time and in the 34th minute, the Daggers took a lead that they had deserved. Finding himself deep in the Halifax half, Robinson’s well-struck cross from the touchline was volleyed home by Vilhete, with the former Barnet midfielder having lost his marker just inside the penalty area. Five minutes before the break, having struggled to get out of their own half previously, the Shaymen had a great opportunity to draw level when Kieran Green looked destined to nod King’s cross into the back of the net, but the midfielder’s

attempt was off target from a matter of yards out. But in first half added time, the Daggers brilliantly doubled their advantage through McCallum, who got the goal that he had deserved. Whipping another free-kick into the box, Wright’s brilliant delivery fell right into the path of the former Solihull Moors striker, who headed past Sam Johnson. Coming out for the second half, Pete Wild’s side were throwing bodies forward early doors and in the 50th minute, having collected a lucky deflection, Halifax defender Neill Byrne could only blaze over the Dagenham crossbar. They were soon punished for that miss when the Daggers added a well-worked third to their tally in the 55th minute through Balanta, who turned home Vilhete’s low cross home, following another excellent Wright free-kick. With McMahon’s men firmly in control of the game, they still were not settling for what they had and just past the hour mark, Vilhete came close after collecting Balanta’s weighted pass on the wing. Dribbling past two white shirts, he saw his goalbound effort brilliantly tipped over the crossbar. Halifax were struggling to deal with wave after wave of Dagenham attack and in the 75th minute, having come on in place of Joey Jones, Myles Weston almost put the game beyond all doubt. Controlling the ball before feeding through the legs of the nearest defender, the winger drove the ball into the box, before spotting McCallum in space, but his near post ball was well cut out by the last man. However, with only eight minutes left to play, the visitors were still trying what they could to find the back of the net. Marauding up the right-hand side of the pitch, King worked himself into space, with the Daggers defence stretched, but his low dribbling shot was tipped around the post. As the heavens opened, the men in red kept going in search of a killer fourth goal. Weston, who was making his return from injury, had plenty in the tank the breeze past the Halifax fullback in the 87th minute, before firing a deep ball into the box, one which the energetic Saunders was inches away from connecting with. But with the Shaymen unable to trouble the hosts, Dagenham were able to comfortably hold on for another three points which extended their impressive unbeaten run to eight. DAGGERS.CO.UK

Joey Jones was shown a second yellow card with less than fifteen minutes to play, forcing Daryl McMahon’s men to finish the game with ten men. And after being awarded a penalty not long after, Rowe netted his second of the day to end the Daggers’ eight-game unbeaten run. In front of their own supporters, the hosts started strongly and after five minutes, an excellent goal line clearance from Paul McCallum denied James Rowe’s men an opening goal. Having defended solidly for the opening fifteen minutes, Daryl McMahon’s side were finally able to break into the Chesterfield half in the 17th minute, with the returning Gordon working his way into space. However, taking aim at the bottom corner, the fullback dragged his shot wide. The blue shirts were playing like a team with promotion on their mind and in the 28th minute, George Carline found space on the left-hand side to whip the ball into Joel Taylor, but his first-time effort never troubled Justham, who watched the ball fly wide. However, approaching the half hour mark, the Daggers took the lead. Having dribbled past his marker, Gordon did well to keep his ball into the box low, allowing Saunders to ghost in amongst a sea of defenders to deftly touch the ball into the bottom corner. Having fallen behind, Chesterfield pressed hard in search of a leveller, with Taylor proving to be a thorn in the side of the Dagenham defence. In the 31st minute, having danced past his marker, he was once again left frustrated when his shot was denied by Justham. But with half time fast approaching, the visitors were looking to give themselves a two-goal cushion, with Jones coming millimetres away from doing

just that, forcing James Montgomery to scramble across his goal as the ball clipped the post. After Myles Weston curled the ball agonisingly wide, the hosts responded well and in the 38th minute, they found themselves level through Rowe, who was picked out well by Maguire before firing into the bottom corner. Just like at the start of the first half, Chesterfield came out of the blocks for the second 45 minutes and thought they should have had a penalty when Taylor went down on the edge of the penalty area, but the referee waved away the claims. Approaching the hour mark, with chances few and far between, the Daggers were struggling initially to deal with the hosts’ energetic play. With sixty minutes on the clock, Liam Mandeville looked to pick a teammate out inside the penalty area, but his cross sailed high and wide. Only three minutes later, the men in blue were able to pierce the visitors’ defence as Curtis Weston raced through on goal. However, his touch was heavy, allowing Justham to save at his feet, with the ‘keeper taking a knock in the process. McMahon’s side were being put under high levels of pressure as the second half went along. Two minutes after Weston’s shot was saved, Taylor was played clean through on goal. With the goal gaping, the former

Chester man sliced his effort into the side netting. With less than fifteen minutes to play, the Daggers were dealt a massive blow when Joey Jones was shown a second yellow card, following a late challenge, leaving the visitors to play the rest of the game with ten men. Things went from bad to worse not long after as Chesterfield were awarded a penalty with 82 minutes on the clock, after Callum Reynolds was judged to have handled inside the box. Stepping up to take the spot kick, Rowe sent Justham the wrong way to hand the Spireites the lead. A goal down and playing with ten men, Dagenham struggled to fight back against the impressive hosts, and with such little time remaining, their unbeaten run, and their hopes of securing a play-off place were brought to an end. DAGGERS DEFENDER CALLUM REYNOLDS ON WELCOMING THE FANS BACK TO THE CHIGWELL CONSTRUCTION STADIUM AHEAD OF TODAY’S MEETING WITH WREXHAM.

It has been a long time coming. Today’s game against Wrexham represents the first time that fans will be allowed inside the Chigwell Construction Stadium in what feels like a monumental amount of time. For some members of Daryl McMahon’s squad, today will be the first time that they will play in front of their own supporters. Much of this can be said about Daggers defender Callum Reynolds, who joined at the start of the season from National League rivals Barnet.

It has been nothing short of a strange experience having to get used to playing in front of a sea of empty seats. However, despite having nothing to play for at the weekend, he remains as excited as ever to take to the field and put on a performance. “I cannot wait. I have only played here as an away player when there were fans in the stands,” remembered Reynolds.

“I think there was one game at the end of pre-season, which I think was a pilot game, when there was 1000 people here, but I am really looking forward to seeing some faces in the crowd.

“I am eager to meet some of the fans and show them what we are about really. Hopefully, we can put on a good show for them.”

The National League play-off race has probably been one of the most competitive in recent memory, with several teams from fifth to tenth still having a chance to extend their season beyond the end of May.

Dagenham had hoped to be one of those teams, however, Saturday’s defeat to Chesterfield finally brought our impressive unbeaten run to an end, putting a stop to any promotion hopes we might have had this season. Having worked his way back into the side in recent weeks, Callum was left disappointed with their showing at the Technique Stadium but with one more game still to play, he highlighted how the group quickly dusted themselves down to switch their attention towards the Red Dragons. “The Chesterfield defeat was disappointing, especially after going on such a good run,” he remarked.

“I do not really like to blame anyone, but we didn’t really get much of a rub of the green with the officials. “It has been a strange one because obviously that result signalled the end of our campaign. It allowed us a bit of time to reflect, but at the same time, we could not dwell on that loss either because we are playing Wrexham, who are a play-off contender and we want to try and win, as simple as that.

“The season is not over. In terms of where we can finish, we are not going to be in the play-offs, but we want to finish on a good note and in front of the home fans as well. We have been working, like any other, to go and win a game.

“I feel we were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty at the weekend, and their goal, especially the first one, came from our own undoing. But we have got to approach Saturday like we have done for other games on this run.” Even being in contention for a play-off place this late into the season is a credit to the hard work that has been put in on the training pitch, as well as the strength in depth that Daryl McMahon currently has at his disposal.

Returning to the starting line-up in recent weeks, Reynolds has played at the heart of a back three, a position he has fitted into seamlessly alongside Will Wright and Elliot Johnson.

“They have made it easy for me,” he said when asked about his defensive teammates.

“I have obviously played with Elliot before at Barnet, but I don’t think I’ve played in a back three with Will. I think that has been the foundation of the results – we have started to not only keep clean sheets, but the attackers are then getting their returns. “Playing with Joey (Jones) just in front of me as well has helped to give me and the others a bit of protection. Obviously, the team started that impressive run, and I was lucky enough to be able to help them continue it.

“It has been a really long season without you all behind us, but we’ve known you have been watching and supporting online. To be able to see you and hear you all on Saturday can make such a difference towards finishing the season on a high.”

THAT WAS THE WEEK, THAT WAS. . .

During my childhood, I remember local singer Millicent Martin singing the theme tune to a new popular television programme, “That was the week that was”. TW3, as it became known, heralded a new form of satirical humour. Hosted by a very young David Frost and including comedians John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett. It was something we had never seen before in the UK. In more recent times, the week beginning Sunday 15th March 2020 was the one which brought to the UK something which was so different to what had gone before. March 15th to 21st, that was ‘the week’, that was! Having been given warning of a potential lockdown, I began working from home the week before, but went into the Club on the morning of 16th March to collect some small items from the office. On arrival I was given just one hour to sort out the office, take what I needed and lock up. I’ve been back just a handful of times since. That week the Trust went into complete lockdown with all staff furloughed. Work in schools stopped immediately, there would be no matchdays for Guards of Honour, no girls’ football matches, the PL Kicks sessions ground to a halt and new planned activities never got off the ground. A glimmer of hope was offered in August when the Premier League Charitable Fund (PLCF) gave permission for the Trust to operate a two week “PL Kicks Restart” club for children aged 8-12 at May and Bakers Sports Ground. Working under strict COVID conditions, the Trust staff offered many young people the chance to get out, run around, exercise, and most importantly, have fun. The two weeks were funded using unspent PL Kicks funding from the last 4 months, allowing the club to operate free of charge to the parents. It finally allowed me to get back into the office for a couple of days in the Summer. The Daggers Trust is part of London United, where charities from the professional clubs in London are represented. All the Premier League, 26 THE DAGGER

Last year, London United was given funding by the London Marathon Charitable Trust to operate activities for girls, in conjunction with PL Kicks. This funding was divided equally between the 14 member CCOs.

weeks in September and October but again had to stop when the second lockdown hit.

A group of girls from Riverside School was the first to come on board at the start of 2020, but their progress has been hampered by the constant disruptions. Four other groups from local schools were due to commence post Easter 2020, but then lockdown arrived.

In December, the Trust was invited to run a three-day activity for ‘Children in Need’ in the Borough as part of the Marcus Rashford Initiative, funded by the PLCF and Barclays Bank. Once again, COVID raised its ugly head, and this activity was postponed. In March some schools began to invite the Trust back into schools and the work undertaken in schools has continued to grow, with others now asking the Trust to deliver Curriculum PE and extracurricular clubs from September.

Many children were selected by local schools and eventually 50 applied. Over the nine days, with the assistance of ‘Box Up Crime’, the Metropolitan Police Task Force, Dog Units and Local Neighbourhood Team members, the children and the staff enjoyed a fun packed, sporting and educational experience where they were given the opportunity to step outside the box, develop team skills, communicate better, believe in their own ability, and most importantly just have fun. The activities were free of charge, including the hot meal served every lunchtime. The nine days’ programme has since been used as a template for similar activities planned for next week’s Whitsun Break by other Trusts and CCOs across London. In recent meetings involving the Metropolitan Police and the Premier League Charitable Fund the Easter camp has been used to demonstrate examples of very good practice. We must give a shout out to Matt Robinson who brought in a large bag of sweets on the final day and encouraged the first team squad to sign autographs for the youngsters after training. PL Kicks sessions have restarted on Thursday evenings at Goals with two boys’ groups, one for the 8-12 year olds and the second for 12-18 year olds. Currently the size of the groups is limited by COVID restrictions. A third boys’ group will start next month. A new addition on a Thursday, are the two “Girls’ Only” PL Kicks/London United sessions for girls aged 8-14. The Riverside group are back into the swing on Friday afternoons and this week several other schools have shown a keen interest in not only the girls’ activity, but also starting new extra curricular clubs in the Autumn Term. Every Wednesday, a group of women aged over 18, meet at 7pm on a Thursday for an hour of fun, fitness, and football. They play in a local park and already have 20 registered participants. This is a revival of an activity which initially began a few years ago with funding from the Wembley Trust and supported by the National League Trust. Fun, fitness and Football. The current restrictions do not allow us to carry out any of the normal activities at today’s match, but hopefully normal service will resume next season. Whatever those activities are, the

emphasis will always be first and foremost about people having fun. Things are on the way up, the Trust is well on the way back and fingers crossed, we can soon forget about that week in March 2020, the week that was. D&R Women and Girls FC The Women & Girls football teams are just finishing a long and very strange season. In March 2020, football was cancelled, and leagues were decided on a points per game ratio. The girls were disappointed but that didn’t stop them from working hard to keep fit for the return. Fast forward to July, and they started pre-season training. They were ready to go and start the season. The girls put in hard work at training and completing challenges set by the coaches. The season started well for all 3 teams, but the UK went into second lockdown and everything stopped again. Thankfully, the Essex FA put together a plan to keep the season alive and as

restrictions were lifted it was, “Go, go, go.” By playing midweek, on Saturdays, Sundays and double headers, all leagues can finish their season. The under 15’s played this season under new management, and the effort and dedication from them was outstanding. In March, they had played the least amount of games pre-lockdown and faced a tough few weeks with 4 double headers. The under 13’s played their first season as an 11-a-side team, again with new management. Stepping up from 9-a-side to 11-a-side is always a tough ask, but the girls relished it! Finally, the under 12’s finished as undefeated Champions. It has been a year to remember for many reasons, and we cannot wait for an exciting summer with open days, pre-season training and the start of the 2021/2022 season.
