THE DAGGERS LIVE ON BT SPORT The Daggers’ fixture against National League South Champions Wealdstone will be broadcast live on BT Sport on Saturday, the 10th October, with a 5:20pm KO. This will be a first league meeting between the two sides. Our Boxing Day fixture against Dover Athletic will also be live on BT Sport. We travel to Crabble for a 5:20pm KO on the 26th December, as we face the Whites in the Christmas double header.

LUQUE DEPARTS Spanish winger Luque cancelled his contract with the Club by mutual consent last week. The Spaniard made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Daggers last season, scoring five goals.

I know unfortunately you can’t be here with us, but I hope you are comfortable, sitting at home with friends and family watching the game tonight.

It’s exciting for the players and staff to play a home game under the lights again. Although we will undoubtedly miss your support tonight, we hope to put a performance on to make you proud of your club.

We will need to be a lot better than Saturday to achieve that performance tonight. We have no excuses, we have had a good preseason in the circumstances. Our training and game performances on the whole have been positive during preseason, but Saturday we fell way below our own standards.

Take nothing away from Halifax who are a very good side and I’m sure will again be in the top 7 this season, but WE expect and demand more from each other than WE produced on Saturday.

I have been very happy with how the new lads have settled in with the group. We lost a lot of players in the summer and we feel we have brought in some good replacements. The age of the squad is good. And we look forward to the challenge this season will throw up.

Tonight we face Barnet in similar situation to us who will look to bounce back from the defeat on Saturday.

As always we will show Peter and his talented squad all the respect they deserve but we must focus on ourselves and us hitting the levels we know we can. I hope you enjoy the game from wherever you are watching it. See you soon, #UTD Daryl

BEESHISTORY I SINCE 2000 Firmly established back in League Two, and with two consecutive FA Cup fourth round appearances enhancing the Bees’ reputation.

Under Ray Clemence and John Still, the Bees quietly established themselves in the fourth tier, twice making the play-offs, before being relegated to the Conference in May 2001 following a dramatic 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Torquay, who saved themselves in the process. It took

Barnet four years to reclaim their Football League place as, following play-off misery at Shrewsbury in 2004, they secured the title at a canter in Paul Fairclough’s first full season as manager.

The 2008-09 season started poorly for the club and it wasn’t until late September that the team recorded its first victory in any competition. Manager Fairclough subsequently brought forward his announcement to step aside and become a club director with special responsibility for a training ground complex that would help develop young players. Ian Hendon subsequently took charge of the first team and successfully steered the club comfortably away from fears of relegation.

In 2009-10 Barnet at one stage deservedly topped the League Two table but, after a series of poor results, League status was only guaranteed on

the last day of the season under reinstalled caretaker boss Fairclough. This season also saw the launch of The Hive, a state of the art training facility, which was opened by England manager Fabio Capello.

After a busy close season in which many new faces were brought to the club hopes were high under Stimson at the start of the 2010-11 campaign. However, serious long term-injuries to several key players thwarted Barnet’s ambitions and Stimson’s contract was terminated just into the new year, with Fairclough taking over once more, this time as temporary manager. With just eight games remaining Martin Allen was asked to return to the club as manager and he was able to inspire the Bees in his first game in charge to a creditable 2-2 draw after being two goals down against table-

topping Chesterfield. In the close season of 2012 the entire backroom staff were released as the club entered a new era with the appointment of Fairclough as director of football and Mark Robson assuming the role of head coach, with the emphasis very much on youth.

and he departed after only one win in 11, with Eames once again placed in temporary charge. Barnet finished a respectable 15th place for the second season in a row and comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

The season was notable for John Akinde becoming Barnet's highestever Football League goalscorer, surpassing Sean Devine's record.

In mid-October, with the team yet to record a victory in any competition, the world-famous Dutch international Edgar Davids was named as joint head coach alongside Robson. This appointment stunned the football fraternity and attracted worldwide media coverage for the club. Davids became a fixture in the team and soon took sole charge of team matters. Despite many impressive results, including an away win at eventual champions Gillingham, defeat to Northampton on the final day of the season sentenced the Bees to the Conference on goal difference; the poor start to the campaign proving an impossible handicap to overcome.

The club also said farewell to Underhill, their home for 100 years. In an emotional match - the last but one of the season - the club managed to record a 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers and hopes were high that relegation could be again be avoided, yet it was not to be. Despite the obvious disappointment of relegation, with the club moving to a new ground â€“ The Hive â€“ there remained a mood of optimism at the club, boosted by the fact that Davids would again be at the helm for the Bees for the 2013-14 season. The club narrowly missed out on the Conference play-offs, and Davids was replaced in the latter stages of the season. Ulrich Landvreugd and Dick

John Still returned to the club in May 2018, before retiring in January 2019, as Darren Currie took up the position as the Bees head coach.

Schreuder temporarily steadied the ship, before Allen returned for his fourth spell as manager.

Allen led Barnet to the Football Conference title (the third in the club's history) the following season, meaning that the Bees were back in the Football League for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Bees enjoyed a steady return to the Football League, finishing 15th and 28 points clear of the drop zone. The season was notable for Barnet having the fourth-best home record, picking up 42 points at The Hive.

In 2016-17, Barnet had a good start to the season before Martin Allen departed for National League side Eastleigh. Rossi Eames and Henry Newman were put in temporary joint charge and the good form continued as the club flirted with the play-off places over the new year. Kevin Nugent was named as head coach in February with Eames becoming his assistant. Nugent's stay at The Hive was brief

The 2019/20 season was a strange one for the whole of society and the Club, with the devastating COVID-19 pandemic grinding the nation and the football season to a halt. Before the league was curtailed, the Bees had gone on a run which saw them lose just once in 13 league games.

The league was decided on a Points Per Game (PPG) system and as a result we finished 7th, meaning a place was deservedly secured in the play-offs. The Bees advanced past the play-off eliminator with a dramatic 2-0 win against Yeovil Town, with Mauro Vilhete sealing the victory in the last minute as he celebrated the end of his 10th season with the Club.

It wasn't to be for Darren Currie's side as they fell to defeat to a very strong Notts County side in the semi-final, however in the most unprecedented of campaigns, the Club could look back with immense pride with what had been achieved.

There was change In management before the 2020-21 season as Peter Beadle took the helm at The Hive, bringing in an almost entirely new squad with him.

THEMANAGER PETER BEADLE

The Bees boss joined the Club in the summer of 2020 and will hope to be the man to take the team back to the Football League. Peter managed Hereford and achieved 3 back to back promotions in 3 seasons before departing the National League North side. He accomplished one of the highest wins and goal ratios in football and we hope that he will go on to emulate his success with Barnet FC. DAGGERS.CO.UK

Harry Taylor: Harry Taylor’s career started as part of the Chelsea youth system in 2005, where he left in 2012 to join Barnet along with his brother Jack. After graduating from Barnet’s academy in 2014, the defender has since gone on to make 75 appearances in all competitions. Born in 1997, the young right-back has had the opportunity to make himself known out on loan, making 21 appearances across two loan spell for Hampton and Richmond Borough and Staines Town. However, he’s had plenty of success at Barnet, making his first-team debut in the FA Trophy in December 2014, which led to him being named the Barnet Youth Player of the Year for the 2014/15 season.

Taylor can play both in defence and midfield in both wide and central positions. He commands the midfield when in the centre of the pitch and has an eye for a pass and breaks up play well. He also is superb positionally in the defensive unit and puts his body on the line to stop shots Harry is an extremely versatile player who can play centre-midfield one week and right back the next, putting in a great shift regardless. Taylor had a very impressive 2019/20 campaign, which culminated in a man of the match performance in the Bees playoff eliminator victory over Yeovil Scott Loach: English goalkeeper Scott Loach arrived at Barnet in the summer of 2019 following his contract expiring at Hartlepool United. Loach arrived at The Hive London with a wealth of experience having represented a plethora of clubs across the Football League and National League.

The 31-year-old 'keeper's career began with Lincoln City, though he never went onto represent the Imps having spent the majority of his time there out on loan. Eventually leaving Lincoln in 2006, Loach joined Watford where he would stay for a further six years.

Having impressed early on, he became a mainstay in the Watford net and went onto make over 150 appearances for the Hornets. His performances during his time at the club earned him England recognition at Under-21 level as well as a full international call-up during qualification for Euro 2012.

In 2012, Loach joined Ipswich Town before brief spells with Rotherham United and Notts County. Signing for Hartlepool in 2017, the English stopper never missed a league game during his time up north and went onto rack up 100 consecutive appearances for the club. Loach also earned the club's Player's Player of the Season award last term. 08 THE DAGGER

Loach's first season with the Bees in 2019/20 was a superb one at that, he went on to surpass 150 consecutive National League appearances. He also picked up the fans player of the season award, before playing a key role in ensuring the Bees progressed to the play-off semi-final.

Ephron Mason-Clark, Born in 1999, signed his first professional deal with Barnet in July 2016 after graduating from the youth academy. Possessing the skill to play either as a striker or on the left-wing, he made his debut for the club as a substitute in the Checkatrade Trophy against Norwich Under 23’s.

A loan spell at Metropolitan Police from October to November got Mason-Clark his first taste of league football.

He wouldn’t have to wait long until his Football League debut though, coming on as a substitute against Crewe Alexandra just a week later. MasonClark has established himself as a firstteam regular and is a fan favourite at The Hive London. He pace, power and goals to his games, the future is certainly bright for the winger. Josh Walker: Striker Josh Walker penned a two-year deal with the Bees in the summer of 2018 following a successful trial period with the club. The 21-year-old started off in the youth setup at Tottenham before joining fellow London side Fulham where he progressed right through to Under 23 level. He became a regular for the Cottagers in Premier League 2 during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

Walker then joined Wealdstone during his final year at Fulham before making a permanent switch to Hendon in September 2017 after being released by the Cottagers. He found himself on the score-sheet 17 times, accumulating 42 appearances for the Greens in the 2017-18 season. Walker had an impressive 2019/20 season and was the Club's second top goalscorer in all competitions as he fired the Bees into the Vanarama National League play-offs.

But I suppose that we must all be thankful that we have at least started the 2020/21 season, albeit several weeks late. Firstly, can I convey the best wishes of the Directors, Players and staff to all our supporters and your families and hope that you have all coped over the past seven months and that you are all as well as can be expected.

GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME FROM THE CHIGWELL CONSTRUCTION STADIUM FOR WHAT MUST BE THE MOST SURREAL FIRST HOME GAME OF ANY SEASON.

Unfortunately, we will all know someone who has contracted coronavirus during this period and some who have lost loved ones. To those we offer our hopes of a full recovery and also our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have passed away. It was always my intention to celebrate the lives of supporters who have sadly passed away since March at our ďŹ rst home game. Even though we are unlikely to be able to host supporters for some time the live BT game this coming Saturday has given us the opportunity to do this at distance and details of how you can be involved can be found on our website. It is now 210 days since we last played a competitive match at home and I do not believe that any of us could have predicted what has happened during those 30 weeks. However, I have been proud with the way that everyone connected with the club has rallied around to ensure that we were ready for tonight. Players, staff and supporters volunteered during lockdown to help with the Food Donation Hub we set up in association with the British Red Cross and many others helped by donating food stuffs for distribution to those who needed help during this period. During lockdown, Chairman Paul Gwinn regularly telephoned our older supporters which I know was appreciated by many.

Executive Chairman and principal owner, Peter Freund, has also been in regular contact since day one of the pandemic and, along with the other Directors, has been completely supportive throughout. Since July, staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to COVID secure the Clubhouse and the ground in preparation for the new season. Sadly, events have meant that those efforts aren’t now required but I am sure that before we are able to have unrestricted supporters back there will be games with limited capacity and then the hard work will not be in vain. The staff have also worked extremely hard over the past few weeks to install a paperless ticketing system and now subsequently a streaming service. I am told that what we have achieved with the streaming in the space of just over 3 weeks, since we were given the go ahead by the

. . . I do not believe that any of us could have predicted what has happened during those 30 weeks. However, I have been proud with the way that everyone connected with the club has rallied around to ensure that we were ready for tonight. . .

National League, would normally take 10. So, ﬁngers crossed for tonight and whilst there may be some teething problems, we have tested it repeatedly over the past week and hope if there are, they are minor. To everyone involved the club would like to publicly thank you for your efforts. But tonight it is all about football and we must look ahead to the coming season with hope and enthusiasm. Manager Daryl has given the squad a complete overhaul during the summer

with 9 new players recruited and 11 leaving. As always, when a squad is changed to this degree it sometimes takes a little while for the players to gel, not helped probably by the disjointed pre-season we have had. However, I am sure that Saturday’s game was just a blip and tonight we will start to see the real Daggers play.

DAGGERS ANNOUNCE STREAMING SERVICE FOR THE 2020/21 SEASON

The Daggers announced last week that the club will be live streaming all of our Vanarama National League matches at The Chigwell Construction Stadium for the 2020/21 season.

Whilst you’re watching the match, a live scoreboard will be on display to give you that high-quality broadcast feel and our sponsors and partners will be visible onscreen or will pop-up during the match.

Following on from the announcement that all football at our level will be required to be played behind closed doors for the foreseeable future, the club has been working very hard over the past few weeks to install a bespoke streaming service for our supporters.

It is hoped that the majority of National League clubs will be able to offer a streaming service throughout the season, but not all clubs are not at the same stage with their service as we are.

Daggers fans will be able to enjoy all of the action from the comfort of their own home all over the world as the Vanarama National League begins behind closed doors. The live streaming site is: live.daggers.co.uk We will be offering a virtual season ticket to all supporters at the price of £9.99 per match, with arrangements for season ticket holders having been advised, which you can read on our website. For any away matches, supporters will need to purchase their streaming passes directly from the home side. We have installed a state-of-the-art camera that features artificial intelligence ball-tracking technology.

This camera (pictured) is situated on the half-way line for the best seat in the house and uses four lenses to make sure every inch of the pitch is covered. The stream will be available in HD 1080p resolution for a crisp picture and can be viewed on your computer, smartphone, or tablet. You will also have the ability to use Google Chrome Cast to view the live stream on your TV. There are also a number of adapters that fans can purchase to be able to get the picture from their tablet or PC onto a TV screen. The live stream will include live commentary from our long-standing commentator, James Glass (Glassy), who will be adding his voice to the action as it unfolds.

We have teamed up with two very experienced providers to bring you this fantastic service. Following the success of Sportradar’s streaming platform through which fans could watch the 2019/20 National League Play-Offs, they were the obvious choice to enable fans to subscribe and watch matches for this coming season whilst restrictions remain in place on attending matches in person. All video production for the streaming platform will be provided by Pixellot, using their automatic cameras. It was a tense start to the match with both sides knowing the importance of getting the season off to a good start, but it was the home side who had the opening chance of the game through Gold Omotayo, a cross from Martin Woods headed over the bar from the Halifax forward. After creating space for himself down the middle of the pitch, Angelo Balanta drove into the box and managed to force a save from Sam Johnson, but the shot was straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Jeff King came close to an opener for the home side just over half-way through the first half, a curled effort crashing off Elliot Justham’s post. Darren McQueen raced onto a long kick forward from Justham after the ball bounced over the home side’s defence, with the pacey striker a whisker away from getting to the ball. Elliott Johnson’s cross from the left was nearly bundled home by a Halifax defender before Johnson was able to gather and clear for the home side. Moments before the end of the half, Halifax were awarded a penalty with Kenny Clark judged to have fouled his man in the box. Summerfield sending Justham the wrong way from the spot.

as the Daggers looked to find an equaliser in the match.

Amotayo came close to doubling the Shaymen’s lead after a counter from the home side, although he could only direct his header narrowly wide of the post.

Halifax did find a second through Earing, the midfielder finding space and firing a shot into the corner of the net.

With the Daggers looking to respond, a cross from the right found Paul McCallum who could only head into the goalkeeper’s arms. The home side came close once again from a free-kick, Tom Bradbury heading just wide from the set-piece.

After some good initial build-up play from the Daggers, McCallum laid the ball off to Sam Deering just outside the area, although the midfielder dragged his effort wide off the post.

In the final moments of the match, it looked as though McCallum was fouled inside the area, but the referee gave the decision the other way with the striker picking up a yellow card.

Daryl McMahon’s side could not find a way back into the match with Halifax taking the three points on the opening day of the campaign.

EARLIEST FOOTBALL MEMORY

I’m a Chelsea fan and had a season ticket when I was younger but I couldn’t tell you what game! My earliest football memory is when my Dad was playing for Stevenage, I was a mascot for one of the games.

CALLUM REYNOLDS For our opening programme of the new season, we chatted with one of our new signings. Central defender, Callum Reynolds spoke about settling in at the Daggers, Saturday's performance and what to expect tonight!

"On Saturday we were obviously disappointed with the performance. It would have been great to have gone it at half time with the score at 0-0 considering we didn’t play well in the opening 45 minutes. I’d definitely say they were the better team overall, had more chance and the better of the play. To concede the penalty right on half-time was very disappointing," he said. "Second half, we improved and started moving the ball better but just couldn’t quite hit our usual standards. When we changed to a back five we tried to get Elliot (Johnson) and Andy (Eleftheriou) up the field, but we couldn’t make the improvement of the performance in that second half count in the final third. However, we have tonights game to put the opening day disappointment behind us straight away." Having joined from tonight's opponents, Reynolds has a good idea of what to expect from the Bees this evening.

"A lot of the lads that I played with at Barnet last season have left the club, but I still know a couple of them well. From the outside looking in, they’ve had a pretty tough pre-season, in terms of being able to bring bodies into the football club and therefore I imagine their preparations have been affected which may give us an advantage. However, we’re expecting a reaction from them tonight after their result at the weekend so we need to make sure we are ready for that. "Having moved from Barnet, I’m keen to put in a good performance personally, but the main thing is that the team get a positive result tonight and get the win," he added.

The 30-year-old is one of nine new signings at Victoria Road this summer, with two more of those having previously played for Barnet last season.

"I’ve settled in nicely here at Dagenham, coming in on the first day with two familiar faces in Macca (Paul McCallum) and Elliott (Johnson) was good and I knew a couple of the lads and the gaffer from my time in football over the years and playing with him previously.

BEST PLAYER YOU’VE FACED Aaron Ramsey for where he is now at Juventus is probably the best! I played against him, Jack Wilshere, Wojciech Szczęsny and Eduardo for Portsmouth in a reserve team game.

"When you come in with players that you know are top quality, it’s good to see that calibre of player joining the club. It would be no good if players that you knew were joining that weren’t quality players and aren’t going to add the team, so it was very exciting when Elliot and Paul joined the Club. It takes time to build those relationships with players when you join a new club, so having two players who I already know how they play was a real positive.

"It’s always exciting when you join a new club and it was made better for the fact that I felt at home from day one and enjoyed it which is the main thing. The Club has such a professional setup and environment. Daggers are a well run club off the field which gives us the best chance to be successful on the pitch, which just makes it easier to go and do our job."

Pre-season saw the Daggers take on nine opponents over a four week spell, which was a tough but rewarding test for the squad.

"I looked after myself during the lockdown because I knew wherever I would be going when football returned would be working hard during pre-season and it was going to be tough after all that time away. So that helped me a lot and set me up for the first two weeks before the games began. When you start playing the time just flies by and I can’t believe it’s already gone. It’s been the coldest pre-season we’ve ever done, that’s for sure! Overall, pre-season was enjoyable, but I’m glad that the League campaign has begun." The defender also recognised the fact that supporters won't be here tonight, but that is something he is already somewhat used to.

"Hopefully we can put on a better performance and get the result for the fans tonight who I know will be cheering us on at home. It would be great to play in front of the fans tonight as I make my home debut and it will feel weird being out there without them, however, having played at Boreham Wood and Barnet previously, having no fans in the stadium won’t faze me!"

I met Ronaldinho when I was a youth team player at Portsmouth and they were in the Europa League. AC Milan came to Fratton Park and they had so many legends like Pirlo, Seedorf, Shevchenko and Kaka, who's shirt I got after the game. DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE CONCLUDED THEIR PRE-SEASON WITH A 1-0 VICTORY OVER CHELMSFORD CITY AT VICTORIA ROAD. Darren McQueen’s 83rd minute penalty was the difference between the two sides on a windy afternoon in east London. The Daggers started on top and enjoyed most of the ball in the opening stages but couldn’t quite turn their early dominance into clear-cut chances.

The hosts’ first opportunity of the match came after 15 minutes when Sam Deering robbed the ball from a Chelmsford defender before getting bundled over to win a free-kick on the edge of the box. Will Wright stepped up but curled his effort over the bar. Despite starting well, it was Chelmsford who had the best chances of the first half in one frantic period just before the halfhour mark. First, Ollie Muldoon saw a dangerous cross-cum-shot tipped over by Josh Strizovic before Dagenham barely managed to clear the resulting corner.

Moments later Adam Liddle nearly scored when he raced onto a long ball and touched it past Strizovic, but he couldn’t quite get his shot off from a tight angle. Harry Phipps then went closest for the Daggers in a half that lacked clear sights at goal as he volleyed right at Lee Worgan from 16 yards out.

Unfortunately, Dean Rance was forced off through injury five minutes before the half-time whistle, replaced by Matt

Robinson as the two sides headed into the break level at 0-0. Dagenham started the second half with much more purpose and Deering flashed a sight of goal wide from 25 yards out. As with the first half, Dagenham couldn’t make their bright start to the second period count as Chelmsford grew back into the game and went close twice in the 56th minute as Strizovic kept out a pair of shots from close range.

The game became progressively more stretched as the second half wore on and Dagenham so nearly grabbed the lead with a lightning counter, but Deering’s header was cleared off the line.

On as a second half substitute, Kai Brown caused Chelmsford all sorts of problems with his pace on the left wing, but he couldn’t curl his effort underneath the crossbar after cutting inside in the 69th minute.

As the game headed for a 0-0 draw, Dagenham finally broke the deadlock with just seven minutes to go. Darren McQueen rattled the post after getting on the end of a blistering counter-attack, but when Deering was brought down in the box moments later.

The former Dartford man got his goal with a clinically dispatched penalty.

That brought the Daggers’ pre-season to a close, which has seen us win seven of our nine matches.

Let me just start by saying I hope that everyone has kept safe and continues to do so in these uncertain times. Well what has happened since we last spoke? Players have left and new ones arrived, but some things are constant. The injuries that we had towards the end of the season have cleared up. Harold Odametey has left the club, he is continuing to rehab his injury and we are always open to help him in anyway that he requires. This is always a strange time for players and as a club we have always supported players. So onto the new? A season that starts in October! With the players being off for so long it was expected that we would get some soft tissue injuries and there has been a few over the course of pre-season but they have recovered over the weeks. We have invested in a GPS system that helps us track the distance covered and workload that players have done during training which is a massive help in how hard we can push the players during sessions or ease off 34 THE DAGGER

them as well if required. So who is injured at present? Well our main injury is Harry Phipps, who injured his knee in the game against Chelmsford. Again technology came into play, with Jack, our analyst showing me the incident during the game that caused his injury and from that you can gauge what might be the issue. So on last Wednesday he had an M.R.I scan that confirmed his injury, he has torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and also has a condlye defect as well. With this we will take him to see Mr Spalding, who operated on Harold. Then we can organise a programme for him. One of our new signings, George Saunders has also had an issue over the pre-season. He took a blow to his foot during the game against Maidstone and we had an X-Ray done that showed no fracture. Some swelling was visible after the game which took some time to settle down and because of this we decided to get a M.R.I scan this showed a haematoma within the compartments of the metatarsal bones. With this we

can now progress his rehabilitation programme. So, other news around the club has obviously been very quiet. Then again, for those who are of a certain age may remember The Goodies, well we have our own version of them in Charlie, Jack and George. To say they have become close is an understatement! For those who donâ€™t know the said 'gentlemen', Charlie is the Club Shop and Ticket Manager, George is in charge of all that is Media and Jack is our Performance Analyst. Well to say that they are close is an understatement, lets just say 'Hot Tub' and leave it at that for now! All will be explained in a later column. Im also happy to say that the Doc is still with us and he is still doing rather questionable things again, but I will explain more in later notes. Keep Safe! HOWAY THE LADS John

In the middle of March everything was moving along fine with many activities in place and plans for new ventures in the pipeline. Within a very short space of time, working from home went to closing up the Club and the Trust Ofﬁce with just an hours’ notice. All activities stopped and all staff were furloughed. It wasn’t until 4 months later with the slight relaxing of furlough conditions, that the Trust Ofﬁce was opened up and two people came in to work on preparing the annual accounts. It was all rather surreal. Very shortly afterwards the Premier League Charitable Fund asked us to participate in a ‘Teams’ meeting to discuss our Premier League Kicks Programme and about moving forward in the future. With the support of the PLCF, LBBD, May and Bakers Sports Club and the West Ham Foundation, the Trust put together a two week Multisport Activity programme during the end of August.

Having established COVID-19 protocols, a limited number of young people aged 5-13 years old met each morning at 10 and participated in a wide range of different multisports through until 3pm. These sessions not only provided a much needed opportunity for the children to participate in fun activities in the fresh air, but also gave the Trust staff the opportunity to get ready to return to ‘normal’. On the ﬁnal day of the activities the youngsters were joined by 6 of the First Team Squad for a Q & A session with the ‘lads’ joining in an indoor archery competition. Since then, over the last four weeks, the Trust has restarted its regular PL Kicks sessions on Thursdays and Friday evenings at Goals Dagenham for a limited number of youngsters. The London United Girls’ project, funded by the London Marathon Charitable Trust, will recommence next week at the Riverside School in Barking, but all other regular and new school activities have stopped for the time being. Currently one Trust coach has been allowed to teach PE in a local primary school, but understandably most schools are reluctant to allow ‘outsiders’ into their buildings at this time. The Trust has a new website www.daggerstrust.com and other social media accounts with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

ALL THE LATEST FROM AROUND THE NATIONAL LEAGUE National League sides were busy making final additions to their side over the past week, with the Transfer Window closing yesterday evening.

Barnet have made four signings over the past few weeks including full-back Jerome Binnom-Williams, 25, who played 26 games for FC Halifax last season, and 25-year-old former Daggers full-back Alexander McQueen following his departure from the Club this summer. Also joining up with The Bees is former Mansfield Town centre-back Matt Preston. The 25-year-old, who has previously had spells at Walsall and Swindon, scored four goals in 72 appearances during two years with the Stags. Lastly, the Bees have also resigned full-back Dwight Pascal after the 19-year-old had a spell at Potters Bar Town. Woking have signed defender Sam Cartwright from League One club Peterborough United in a "short-term loan deal". The 20-year-old, who has

Yeovil have signed former Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Harry Palmer, 25, after several appearances for the Glovers during pre-season. Defender Ryan Burke, 19, has also joined The Glovers on loan from Birmingham City until January.

Boreham Wood have signed striker Shaquile Coulthirst, 25, on a one-year contract after he left fellow National League side Barnet earlier this summer.

Wealdstone have signed Zimbabwe midfielder Kundai Benyu, 22, plus Alex Dyer and Charlie Wakefield on shortterm deals. made two EFL Trophy appearances for Posh, spent part of last season on loan at National League North side Kettering Town. The Cards have also signed winger Malachi Napa and striker Slavi Spasov on loan from Oxford United, and West Bromwich Albion defender Saul Shotton on a "short-term loan".

Elsewhere in the National Legue, Halifax Town have signed 27-year-old defender Neill Byrne after his departure from AFC Fylde, Weymouth have signed Bristol City midfielder Sam Pearson on loan until January and Watford winger Harry Forster, 20, has joined Bromley on loan until January.

Finally, Solihull Moors have signed Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer, 19, on loan until 3 January.

IT’S DIFFICULT to know what to write about sometimes in these programme columns we send out each week.

Do people want to hear views on the big issues around the game? Are you flicking through a programme for some light-hearted reading at half-time?

It feels like everything has been a bit serious recently. And rightfully so. Clubs up and down are worried about the future. What makes it harder, in this Covid pandemic, is a lot of the things we are worrying about when it comes to Non-League football are largely out of everyone’s control.

While clubs can put the right protocols in place, if the government suddenly decide no fans then there’s not much that can be done about it.

All we really want is to watch our teams play again. That goes for every club throughout the pyramid. Those who already have fans in want to make sure the gates stay open.

Perhaps this tricky period reminds us why we started watching Non-League football in the first place.

The thought sprung to mind from last week’s NLP where our new columnist Tony Incenzo – talkSPORT’s journalist and Non-League expert – about the importance of getting young fans through the doors.

Tony recounts how his mum used to drop him and a friend at the gates of Hendon and would return at 4.45pm to pick them up knowing they will have had an enjoyable, and safe, afternoon watching their local side. From their Tony’s passion for these levels of the game soared and, anyone who follows him on twitter, will know just how many grounds he has visited over the years.

It got me to thinking about my own involvement in the game. My Dad is the on to blame, Heavily involved in Non-

League football, I probably had no choice. But I loved going down to a ground, smelling the liniment waft from the changing rooms before standing so close to the action soaking it all in. I enjoyed watching Premier League football, like any other kid, but really Non-League was the place to be.

That then morphed into regularly watching Farnborough Town with friends before, in our teenage years, that transformed into away games as well.

We’d hop on the train early in the morning and headed off to far flung destinations like Hitchin, Carshalton and St Albans.

It’s only a few years later when you start driving that you realise these places are not that far away at all.

But that was our Saturdays. Stopping at McDonalds on the way to the ground. Stopping there again on the way back to the station. Navigating our way through Clapham Junction and eventually arriving back home tired but fulfilled. That’s what Covid has shown me, anyway. How much I enjoy being at a game with other people and soaking it all in. How I enjoy going to a game with my Dad, who kickstarted my love affair with Non-League in the first place. And, with that, I’m off tonight to see a game with him. Enjoy your game.

DAGGERS IN FA YOUTH CUP ACTION Dagenham & Redbridge will be taking on St Albans in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup on Thursday, with a small number fans allowed into the ground to cheer on the Daggers! The side, which is made up of young players from and administered by Barking & Dagenham College are hoping to advance into the next round of the competition when they take on the Saints at Clarence Park.
