Today is another big game for us, against a local rival We really did have some tough tests against Southend last year, I thought the atmosphere in all three games last season was truly incredible, and I hope to see more of that today
Last Saturday against Dorking was a really bad day for us, I think it was a big reality check for everyone at the club We knew a lot of things had to be dealt with and rectified, we know as a team that one loss doesn’t ruin your season but at the same time, one win doesn’t make your season
You have to be consistent across the 46 games of the season to achieve success, but last Saturday gave us a big reality check
I think we got the reaction we desired against Chesterfield; I think it was the best performance we ’ ve had this season Although they did score twice, we didn’t really give them a sniff, they took the two chances they had, and when they were throwing the kitchen sink at it, the lads stood strong and dealt with it
We’ve had Josh Hare come back into the group who did very well on Tuesday night
The same with Junior Morias, he did tremendously on Tuesday and of course got his goal which is brilliant Harry Phipps who hasn’t played a lot recently due to his
injuries, but he’s trained very well and is now in the side and getting his full fitness back Unfortunately, it looks like Mauro (Vilhete) will be out for 4 5 months, Nik Tavares is out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury We hope to have Angelo Balanta back at Christmas, the same with George Saunders David Longe King hopefully will be back in the next few weeks
In terms of Southend and Kevin Maher’s side, I think they’ve recruited very well Kev is a really great coach, someone that I know very well and have a tremendous amount of respect for He’s done an amazing job since he’s gone in at Southend, they’ve improved dramatically and they have a lot of new players from the team we played against last season
The new lads are now more settled in and that shows with their confidence, their results and performances as of late Today we will have to be at our best if we want to get something from it Southend are a huge football club, with a very good squad but as I said we ’ re looking to it and we ’ re looking forward to the test today
Enjoy the game Sing loud, Sing proud
Daryl

Victoria Road played host to a 9 goal thriller last Saturday, with a Josh Walker hat trick guiding the Daggers to all three points
Both sides couldn’t retain possession throughout the opening exchanges, with a lot of long balls being attempted to no great avail
But, it was Barnet who raced into the lead, Nicke Nakamba and Sean Shields converting to put the Bees 2 0 up after 17 minutes The former Dagger heading in from close range, and the latter slotting home from 6 yards out
The Daggers took no time to drag themselves back into proceedings, as Josh Walker scored a tap in, 21 minutes in, and Mauro Vilhete smashed the ball into the top corner from range, to bring the game level after 25 minutes
HALF TIME Daggers 2 2 Barnet
The Bees started the second half just as they started the first, with Nicke Nakamba putting them back in front just 2 minutes in
However, Omar Mussa struck back immediately, capitalising on a goalkeeping error to slot into an empty net to make the game level once again
On the hour, Omar Mussa whipped in a wicked corner kick which fell to Josh Walker who pounced and stabbed it home to put The Daggers ahead for the first time in the match Barnet responded with a corner of their own just 10 minutes later, with Jerome Okimo turning home from close range, pulling the game level with 20 to go
Following their equaliser, Barnet bombarded the Dagenham goal, with Elliot Justham producing several excellent saves to keep the fixture level
However, with mere minutes left on the clock, Walker latched onto a flick on, to confidently finish into the bottom right corner, to snatch the three points at the death
FULL TIME: Daggers 5 4 Barnet
Daryl McMahon was very pleased by the attitude shown by his side, and had this to say regarding the Daggers' dramatic victory, “In that second half we were toing and froing but we showed great character”
Man of the match and hat trick hero Josh Walker was delighted to put in such an emphatic performance against his old side, and is now looking to maintain his spot in the starting eleven, “I’m back in now, scoring, so hopefully I can keep playing”

was
A positive start from Daryl McMahon's side resulted in Myles Weston crossing the ball in, with McCallum nodding it down and Morias, on his return, smashing it home
Chesterfield fought hard to equalise with Manny Onariase going into the book for stopping a dangerous Spireites counter attack
But the Daggers pursued with a devastating counter attack of their own, Mo Sagaf found Morias beautifully, and Juniors early cross found Macca who doubled our lead
Chesterfield’s chances in the first half came exclusively from set pieces, with the best of those dropping to Quigley who dragged his shot just wide
On the stroke of half time however, Mo Sagaf turned his man superbly in the midfield, and played Morias through who danced past his man and found Junior, who struck towards goal and had his shot parried straight to the feet of Macca, who struck home to grab The Daggers’ third and his second of the game
HALF TIME: Chesterfield 0 3 Daggers
The Daggers started the second half strongly, with some fabulous football being played by the Daggers, Matt Robinson attempted to place it, but Covolan saved it
Despite the boys playing the better football, it was Chesterfield who scored first in the second half, Branden Horton
the
let fly from range and his shot just beat Elliott Justham, giving Chesterfield hope with half an hour to go
Goal scorer Junior Morias made way for Elliott Johnson, whose main contribution came in the form of a bizarre booking, that I’m sure the ref couldn’t even explain
Chesterfield grabbed a consolation in the dying moments of the game, Tyrone Williams striking home to give Chesterfield a glimmer of hope
However, the Daggers saw out the game well, and secured all three points, with a blistering first half being enough to beat Paul Cook’s men

Avalon Road Centre on Tour
penalties against their accompanying staff I took away so many memories, especially my one to one session with Paul, a keen Arsenal fan who was attired in trainers, a track suit, a shirt, and a tie
At some point we were loudly singing ‘ Wild Thing’, made famous by the Troggs in 1966, as we passed the ball between us A memory etched in my mind for ever There are times in one ’ s life when you can forget about any problems and troubles you may have and just have fun Sport has the power to unite and divide
On Wednesday it brought unity, friendship, laughs and many, many smiles The group left Victoria Road at around 3pm having spent four and a half hours just having fun I would like to thank the Centre staff: Stephen, Cheryl, Sandra, and Jasmin for arranging the visit and especially thank Liam, Jordan, Andrew, Phillip, Christopher, Kenny, Daniel, Paul, Claire, Charlie, Tom, Carol, Crystal and ‘ Wild Thing’ Paul “Paul, you made my heart sing”
Last Wednesday evening, I went to bed with a big smile on my face and feeling very happy and it wasn’t just the great result from Chesterfield that evening
I had spent most of the day with a fantastic group of young adults from the Avalon Road Centre in Havering; a group of young men and women who have had to cope with problems for all of their lives
They spent Wednesday at the Daggers, engaged in a full ‘Stadium Tour’ before lunch going behind the scenes in the Clubhouse, the Boardroom, the Executive Boxes, the Dugouts, the Tunnel, the Post Match Interview Room, the Manager’s Office and all four Changing Rooms in the S D Samuels stand Many questions were asked and answered, photos were posed for and taken, and after 90 minutes we are retired to the bar for lunch
After lunch we moved out to Pondfield Park for a kick around on the very bumpy grass Everyone took part and the nearly two hour fun session ended with the group taking
The Trust is looking forward to working with the centre again, firstly providing more technical football coaching, but more importantly putting smiles on faces and changing lives
If you are interested in a full Stadium Tour, please contact the Trust by emailing: trust@daggerstrust com Kickstart 4 Kids to restart next week

INPROFILE
DAGGERS STOPPER ELLIOT JUSTHAM
Daggers’ man in between the sticks, Elliot Justham, was born just up the street from Victoria Road and started his career at Waltham Forest in 2008
Whilst playing semi professionally between 2008 and 2013, Elliot worked night shifts on the London Underground Alongside Waltham Forest, whom he made eleven appearances for, our number one also spent time at Leyton, Redbridge, Brentwood Town, and East Thurrock United, even bagging himself a goal for Redbridge in the 2010/11 season!
Throughout his time in semi professional leagues, Elliot’s talents were making waves with clubs in the higher leagues in England, trialling at Reading, as well as fellow East Londoners West Ham
However, in 2013, he was picked up by current Championship regulars Luton Town, who were playing in the National League at the time
Justham signed for the Hatters on a two year contract, spending his first season at the club solely making appearances in the various different cup competitions, helping his side reach the final of the Bedfordshire Senior Cup
In the season that followed, an injury to first choice keeper Mark Tyler led to Elliot playing in between the sticks in the league, for their remaining 15 games Keeping 5 clean sheets in this
time, saw his stellar performances gain interest from other clubs in the EFL , however, he decided to sign a two year extension with the Hatters in April of 2015
During the following 2015/16 season, Justham went on to make another 15 league appearances and 1 apiece in both the FA Cup and League Cup However, luckily for us, Elliot struggled to become first choice in the net for Luton, resulting in the player making his way back home, to Victoria Road
Elliot Justham signed for the Daggers in May of 2016, with former manager and club legend John Still giving Elliot a two year contract
The 32 year old made an instant impact with the fans, keeping a clean sheet on his debut, in an opening day 3 0 win against Southport
Since that moment, Justham has remained first choice at Dagenham and Redbridge, winning the Daggers Player of the Year award in the 2018/19 season, earning him a contract extension
In his 7 season stint at Victoria Road, El has racked up 225 appearances, keeping an extremely impressive 64 clean sheets throughout those appearances, and we hope he can continue to impress in between the sticks for the club for many years to come

AS FA CUP draws go, there really is nothing like the fourth qualifying round.
Yes, the first round ‘ proper ’ (a word banned in NLP Towers), and third round draws will grab all the publicity but, for me, there isn’t anything quite like the euphoria of the final qualifier before the ‘big boys’ come in
Give the change of the Non League landscape these last few years, I would argue that the Holy Grail for all FA Cup dreamers starts here and this week’s draw sure didn’t disappoint
Take Anstey Nomads for example The lowest ranked club left in the competition as I write this, the Step 5 Nomads have progressed through five rounds to get to this stage for the first time in their history, culminating in a 5 0 victory over fellow minnows Shefford Town & Campton last weekend
Their reward, a home tie with Chesterfield, second in the National League with average attendances of over 6,000 and FA Cup semi finalists in 1996 97
Who says the magic of the FA Cup only starts at round one?
And Nomads weren’t the only ones to
pick a dream tie in the live talkSPORT draw this week
Beckenham Town, riding high in Isthmian League South East having won promotion from Combined Counties South last week, were rewarded for their 5 3 success over Binfield with a visit of Dagenham & Redbridge to their modest Eden Park Avenue ground What a scalp that could be?
Elsewhere, Coalville Town were handed a dream trip to Notts County’s famous Meadow Lane stadium, steeped in FA Cup history, Sevenoaks Town were given a short trip to National League South leaders and Kent rivals Ebbsfleet United and St Ives Town were pulled out a home tie against top flight strugglers FC Halifax Town, no doubt dreaming of adding their names to the cup archives
Underdogs Hanley Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels or Ashington and Clitheroe or Bury AFC in their first FA Cup foray as a phoenix club were also looking to continue the journey as this column went to press with Tuesday night replays arguably the biggest games in their club’s history
One tie which will stand out to the FA Cup purist, however, is Blyth Spartans’ visit of National League Wrexham
You have to go back to 1977 78 to stumble across the history between these two sides and a fifth round replay played at Newcastle United
After a 1 1 draw in the initial tie at Wrexham, the replay was switched to a snowbound St James’s Park and was watched by an official attendance of 42,187 easily the biggest crowd of the season there and one which wouldn’t be bettered for 22 years!
Wrexham won the replay 2 1 and went on to lose 3 2 to Arsenal in the quarter finals that season
These days, of course, the Dragons are owned by A lister Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and have dreams of replicating such glory
But in order for the Hollywood storyline to roll into action, they’re going to have to rewrite history and get past old foes Blyth first
Lights, camera, action!
