PHOEBE PUTNEY/ALBANY TECHNICAL SCHOOL, LIVING & LEARNING CENTER ALBANY, GA
Phoebe Putney Health System elected to create a nursing school in conjunction with Albany Technical College to meet the shortage of licensed nurses in the market. The facility will include 46,000 SF of teaching space and approximately 76,000 SF of housing for nursing students. The mixed-use facility was built on the former site of a high school. The building’s entry gives a nod to the historic nature of the site by incorporating design elements of the vintage facade. Traditional classroom and lecture space includes simulation labs to help provide a real-world learning experience. The project also includes administrative spaces, student lounges, and breakout spaces for study and collaboration.
NORTH GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE TOCCOA, GA
The 42,000 SF multi-discipline building includes classrooms, computer labs, industrial labs, meeting rooms, and a kitchen to support the school’s secondary education programs. With a primary mission of workforce development, the building provides for programs in culinary arts, industrial systems technology, accounting, emergency medical technology, and finance. The compact satellite campus is organized on a rolling hillside around an indoor-outdoor common area. This centrally located meeting space maximizes interaction of students and faculty.
HANEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE PANAMA CITY, FL
Haney Technical College includes a new two-story, vocational-technical classroom wing replacing multiple buildings destroyed by Hurricane Michael in 2018. The entry lobby’s design bathes the space in natural light and provides additional space for casual collaboration and small gatherings. The one-story, 17,500 SF vocational-technical classroom wing supports educational programs for technology and nursing. The classroom wings are designed for flexible use so more programs can be added as community needs are identified.
Florida A&M University, Residence Hall
Tallahassee, FL
The FAMU Village residence hall is part of the University’s long-term plan to transform and elevate services for students, creating a sense of community. The new dormitory establishes a campus gateway, allowing for future campus development. The design includes 800 beds on six floors, community rooms, study spaces and computer labs. The development defines the western edge of the campus and expands upon campus architectural traditions with its own distinguishable character.
GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Woodruff Housing Commons
ATLANTA, GA
Upgrading and modernizing the common areas of an aging residence hall served to make it more inviting to students. The design included FF&E, and branding of the common lounge areas, kitchenettes, and corridors on each of five floors for both the north and south wings. Wayfinding on each floor being color-coded and identified with oversized numbers in stairs, on doors and walls. An accurate dimensional map of the campus area with lighting and color identifying the Woodruff location was displayed on the lobby ceilings. The first floor of each wing also included renovating the existing bedrooms into offices and conference rooms. *Designed by Tanya Richard while at another firm.
