Aviation & Emergency Facilities

About DAG Architects

Founded in 1981 in Destin, DAG Architects now operates six offices across Florida and Georgia, including in the Space Coast. For over 40 years, we have been committed to designing facilities that create positive and lasting impact on communities.

We believe that the strongest testament to our commitment is the number of legacy clients who return to us time and again. At the heart of every project is our deep desire to deliver places that enhance civic life and improve how communities function. Our broad experience spans master planning, public safety buildings, emergency operations centers, resiliency centers, transportation facilities, municipal buildings, and community gathering spaces. We understand that public projects require careful coordination to maintain essential services, whether we’re constructing new facilities or renovating occupied buildings. We are experienced in maintaining services across active campuses.

We prioritize exceptional customer service and strive to build strong, lasting relationships with government agencies, civic leaders, and community stakeholders. As part of our commitment to serving growing communities, Michelle Riegner opened our Melbourne office in 2022 to better serve Space Coast clients. She brings more than 13 years of experience to the region, with an approach built on managing complex public projects while focusing on clientcentered solutions and the experiences of citizens and end users.

As your strategic partner, we are committed to delivering facilities that serve your community’s current needs, while adapting to future challenges and growth.

The Power of Partnership

Fitzgerald Collaborative and DAG Architects bring decades of partnership experience to aviation projects, built on trust and seamless collaboration with airport authorities, airlines, consultants, and contractors. Our integrated approach enables bold, innovative designs executed with precision down to the smallest operational detail. We are guided by one clear mission - to translate your airport’s identity and operational requirements into an authentic, passenger-focused environment.

Operating from our Atlanta and Tallahassee offices, we have successfully collaborated on diverse project types including mixed-use developments, commercial facilities, and educational campuses. This collaborative philosophy directly translates to our aviation work, where we design community-oriented spaces that create genuine connections between travelers, local culture, and commerce to deliver a seamless airport experience for modern travelers.

Whether you’re planning a new terminal, expanding existing facilities, or renovating passenger spaces, you need architecture partners who understand that aviation infrastructure includes a campus of essential services that must be maintained to ensure the safety of staff and travelers. From master planning new airport developments to reimagining retail concourses and gate areas, we focus on creating exceptional traveler experiences while ensuring optimal operational flow. Our designs anticipate future growth, evolving security requirements, and changing passenger expectations by incorporating flexibility that allows your facilities to adapt over time.

We understand that every aviation project comes with unique challenges. For new construction, we carefully coordinate to minimize impact on nearby active operations. When working on renovations and expansions, we develop phased construction approaches that keep the airport running smoothly, ensuring travelers continue to receive uninterrupted service.

We will be your strategic partners as you move forward with the next steps in the design of your facilities.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Airside Modernization

Atlanta, GA

We renovated and modernized Concourses T South, A, B, and C and the lower-level transportation tunnels at one of the world’s busiest airports. inspired by the international Concourse, the goal was to maximize daylight in the hold rooms and replace the ceilings throughout with a clean, modern aesthetic. Working with HKS and Corgan as a Joint venture, Fitzgerald Collaborative’s scope included replacing the corridor ceilings, hold room ceilings, hold room carpet, and designing visually interesting Quarterpoints to connect with the Midpoints designed by HKS.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Fire Station 40

Atlanta, GA

Fitzgerald Collaborative lead the design of Air Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Fire Station 40, a ground-up facility designed to meet the airport’s growing capacity.

Keeping in mind that emergency responders typically spend more than half of their week at this workspace, Fire Station 40 was designed to prioritize natural lighting, energy flow, and comfort without compromising privacy and security.

We designed a common space for work, rejuvenation, socialization, and training. This approach encourages interaction among team members and reduces energy consumption. With more than 28,000 square feet of space, the new station accommodates additional personnel, 11 emergency vehicles, heightened security measures, and a sophisticated communications system that ensures speed and efficiency when responding to emergencies.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, West Parking Deck

Atlanta, GA

As part of a joint venture, Fitzgerald Collaborative designed the West Parking Deck at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta international Airport as a secure area that offers a comfortable and quick transition from automobile to airplane. Encompassing nearly 2.2 million square feet, the design concept prioritized covered, protected parking spaces and a convenient curbside concierge experience, which includes a rideshare pick-up zone and car maintenance services.

in addition, an elevated walkway connects the Georgia international Convention Center and a SkyTrain automated people-mover station. The courtyard acts as a central wayfinding device attracting parkers through light and signage. To compensate for the parking loss during the reconstruction of the parking garages for the north and south domestic terminals, the new addition is a seven-level parking deck that accommodates 5,750 vehicles. internal to the structure, a Parking Manager’s office provides on-site administration and supervision of parking operations.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, K-9 EOD Facility

Atlanta, GA

As part of a joint venture, Fitzgerald Collaborative designed a new facility for the Atlanta Police Department’s K-9/ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to help the Atlanta Police Department’s K-9/EOD unit better respond to airside incidents.

Acknowledging the extended hours the team members would spend within the new facility, we made it a priority to infuse the design with ample natural light. With security at the forefront of the design, views from both public and private areas of the facility were glazed. The new 16,844-square-foot facility has offices, workshop areas for Atlanta Police Department’s K-9/EOD team members and robotic training. There are also showers, locker rooms, conference facilities, and fitness room, with dog-focused areas including kennels, runs and wash room. The design promotes personnel interaction, while simultaneously creating space for solitude.
