RETHINKING MONOLITHIC ARCHITECTURE:A.I. ASSISTED INFLATABLE DESIGN A MOMENT LOST IN TIME

BRIEF // Simultaneously solid and hollow, uniform and heterogeneous, impregnable and permeable, foreign and familiar, the monolith that is not one stands out as a glitch, a disturbance within the dialectical logic and the corollary axiological dichotomies that continue to regulate the theoretical discourse in architecture and persistently sanction the emancipatory virtues of the formless as opposed to the totalizing and repressive authority of the ‘formed,’ the small to the big, the fragmented to the coherent, the transparent to the opaque, the irregular to the orthogonal. This project glimpses into the new class of monolithic architecture sculpted through the synergy of A.I. generators and Houdini’s procedural modeling. LOCATION // Taurus Hill, Vilnius, Lithuania PROJECT DURATION // Fall 2023 A MOMENT LOST IN TIME describes how within a building history can stand as a momentary time in space. The building mass is influenced by planes cutting through its structure. Within those cut places, a building keeps it together. Trapped from the outside, but contained on the inside.

With the aid of Stable Diffusion (generative AI) in Houdini, I explore the outputs using text, images, and geometric shapes.

USC Center for Social Justice

SERVICE // ENGAGEMENT // RESEARCH

BRIEF // The USC Center for Social Justice is an incubator where USC faculty and students from multiple disciplines engage with neighborhood community in issues of social justice through three departments: service, research and community engagement. LOCATION // 747 N. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 PROJECT DURATION // Spring 2023 SERVICE // ENGAGEMENT // RESEARCH is a comprehensive studio in which the architectural form of the building is influenced by traditional Japanese wood joinery. The building consists of three masses each symbolizing its on department. Towards the upper floors, research and service take an open approach. The facade is influenced by the Chinese tradition of the Water Lantern Festival.

INTIMATE IMMENSITY: INTERIORITY, SPATIAL SEQUE

∞ PING BATHHOUSE

L

BRIEF // INTIMATE IMMENSITY is an investigation of interiority as a fundamental and intrinsic property of architetural space, as well as an introduction to various historical conceptions of architecrural space including cellular and nested space; episodci space and spatial sequence; and the relationship between fundamental architectural elements and immaterial phenomena such as the modulation of natural light and the atmospheric space. LOCATION // Urban infill site (60’x100’) consisting of two existing contiguous infill buildings, 72 and 7476 Market St., Venice, CA PROJECT DURATION // Spring 2022 In this project, I explore the spatial concept of looping space within the broader context.

The concept of looping space is understanding that there is “one true” path to ones journey through a space. In this particular instance, while traversing the building, you are met with three different means of passage. Those being ramps, stairs, and elevators. Once you start in one way of entry, you are met with one direction in which you experience the space.

CO-DIVIDUAL HOUSING PUSH // PULL WORK // LIFE

BRIEF // In this exploration, the task is to expand on housing. Moving from the individual to the community. The challenge is to incoporate aspects of co-living into a new housing standard LOCATION // Hillcrest Country Club golf course, Los Angeles PROJECT DURATION // Fall 2022 PUSH // PULL, WORK // LIFE is an investigation to how a members of the young professional work force can make a living after being thrown into a new chapter in their lives. This project works on the idea of voxels, pushing and pulling the movement of the individual and group towards a new work-life balance.

Light, Color, and the Character of Material Reinterpreting an Icon

BRIEF // Produce a series of drawings that explore the consequences of light, shade, color, and material for an iconic space, place, or building. LOCATION // Culver City, CA 90232 PROJECT DURATION // Fall 2022 Through the lens of physical media and using drawing techniques to master the essencee of light and shadows in the observed world, there is a discovery in action. Manually grinded graphite is used to imprint onto the watercolor material. Initial practice lends to honing the skills needed to reproduce quality productions.
