As we continue our journey of personal and professional growth, I want to remind you all of the unique and invaluable platform that Toastmasters offers for selfimprovement. This is a space where we develop our communication and leadership skills, support one another, and grow stronger together
Toastmasters is not just a club; it’s a community that empowers each of us to overcome challenges, enhance our public speaking skills, and boost our confidence But the best part? We don’t do it alone. We help each other along the way, and it’s through this collective support that we truly thrive Hence why not let others enjoy the very same benefits; I encourage you all to reach out to your colleagues, let them know about the benefits this program offers and invite all of them to join the club
At the same time, let us be active members; each and every one of your involvement makes a huge difference, not just for you, but for those around you
Together, let's continue to move forward to create an environment where everyone can grow and succeed
Warmregards,
TMDiliniWeerasinghe President
It has been a wonderful journey since I joined CEB Toastmasters club with a simple goal to develop my leadership and communication skills I am amazed how much I have learned and how warmly I have been supported by my fellow members. Each meeting has served as a stepping stone, pushing me to expand my comfort zone and refine my abilities This journey has been filled with both challenges and triumphs. One of the proudest moments in my Toastmaster’s experience has been competing in speech contests beyond the club level Winning these contests was not just a personal achievement, but also a reflection of the skills and lessons I have gained here I owe much of this success to the supportive environment and encouragement I have received from every member Becoming part of the executive committee has been a transformative experience for me, where I am inspired daily by our shared dedication to personal and professional growth I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as Vice President of Education (VPE) of the club As VPE, I am committed to helping every member to reach their potential by fostering a supportive yet challenging learning environment, where we create memories and milestones together. I’m excited to see each of you progress toward your goals.

CEB TOASTMASTERS CLUB MEETUPS
Sir Winston S Churchill once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.” As we approach the 200th meeting of the CEB Toastmasters Club, it’s a perfect time to reflect on our journey, celebrating our achievements and learning from our setbacks along the way.
Our journey began in 2014 when we had the privilege of participating in speech craft programs within the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), thanks to the support of then-General Manager, Eng Shavindranath Fernando Following our sixth speech craft program in May 2015, the CEB Toastmasters Club was officially chartered with the dedicated efforts of our club mentor, DTM Noorul Munawwara, Charter President TM Keerthi Dharamasiri, and Charter Secretary TM Janaki Rupasinghe.
Since then, our club has been led by committed presidents, starting with TM Keerthi Dharmasiri (2015/16 & 2016/17), followed by TM Mahinda Wijayasantha (2017/18), TM CAB Karunarathne (2018/19), myself, Chamila Gamage (2019/20), TM Nadeesha Manamperi (2020/21), DTM Upul Pallekumbura (2021/22), TM Hansi Rajapaksha (2022/23), TM Janaki Rupasinghe (2023/24), and now TM Dilini Weerasinghe
From the start, CEB Toastmasters has actively participated in Area, Division, and District events During our first year, our members secured positions in both Humorous and Evaluation speech contests at the area level, and since then, we have consistently produced division-level contestants in all four contest categories
During my term as president, CEB Toastmasters achieved President’s Distinguished status and was awarded the Golden Club Award at Ovation 2019, a first in our club’s history. This milestone set a new standard, and we have since maintained this achievement every year except one. Additionally, our members have proudly held positions in area, division, and district councils TM Nadeesha Manamperi and I have both served as Area Directors, with DTM Upul Pallekumbura serving as Division PR Manager. I later served as Assistant Division Director (Club Growth) and was honored to receive the Best Area Director Award for the 2021/2022 term, further bringing pride to the CEB Toastmasters Club.
WHAT MADE ME JOIN TOASTMASTERS
Toastmasters offers a supportive and welcoming platform for practicing and enhancing public speaking skills. Additionally, it provides valuable opportunities to network with individuals from diverse backgrounds My goal is to develop my public speaking abilities and strengthen my interpersonal communication through active participation in Toastmasters
The reason I joined the Toastmasters program is to improve my public speaking and communication skills, build confidence, and connect with others who are also focused on personal development I wanted a supportive environment to practice speaking in front of an audience, receive constructive feedback, and work on leadership skills it is my firm believe that Toastmasters will offers structured opportunities that will help me grow both personally and professionally
Toastmasters offers a supportive environment to practice and hone public speaking abilities Regular participation helps build confidence and effectiveness in delivering speeches CEB Toastmasters Club seemed like the ideal place to develop this crucial skill
Beyond improving speaking skills, Toastmasters provides numerous opportunities to cultivate leadership qualities. By taking on various roles within the club, I can learn to lead meetings, manage projects, and mentor others, significantly enhancing my leadership capabilities
As a global organization with members from diverse backgrounds, Toastmasters allows me to connect with like-minded individuals. Joining a club like CEB Toastmasters helps broaden my professional and personal network, fostering valuable relationships
A session of toastmasters is embraced with diverse roles and all participants are equally permissible to play the roles even with little preparation or without any preparation It supports the development of participant’s confidence Performance in a toastmaster club is predominantly dependent on collective efforts and all role players are required to work together to provide strong patronage to develop our leadership skills

Despite the extra commitment and hard work, every gathering provides relaxation, fun, joy and happiness.
JOURNEY THE OF A THOUSAND MILES
THATSTARTED WITH ASMALL SPEECH
MY JOURNEY IN BECOMING A DISTINGUISHED TOASTMASTER
BY DTM UPUL PALLEKUMBURA PAST PRESIDENT CEB TOASTMASTERS CLUB
THE DISTINGUISHED TOASTMASTER (DTM) AWARD REPRESENTS THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT IN TOASTMASTERS.
THANKS TO THE SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT OF THE CEB TOASTMASTERS CLUB, I ACHIEVED THIS MILESTONE IN 2024, BECOMING THE FIRST DTM THE CLUB PRODUCED.
Back in 2015, My Toastmasters journey began as a chartered member of CEB Toastmasters Club. During the legacy program era, I completed the Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) and Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) programs, getting close to DTM and being the highest achiever from CEB Toastmasters under the Legacy program However, with the program's end in 2020, I had to embrace a fresh start with the Pathways program But who doesn't love a good challenge?
EMBRACING EVERY OPPORTUNITY
To earn the DTM, one must complete two learning paths, serve as a club officer, and participate in various leadership roles I seized every opportunity to deliver speeches and contribute to my club, earning back-toback Triple Crown Awards I served in various club officer roles, including VP of Membership, Public Relations, and Education, culminating in my presidency in 2021 in CEB Toastmasters Club. Though actively engaged, my initial goal wasn't solely focused on the DTM As the Roman philosopher Seneca wisely said, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end" I diligently tracked my progress, ensuring every speech was evaluated and every role fulfilled So, effortlessly, I was able to tick out my DTM requirements, one tick at a time!
SPEECHCRAFT AND DTM PROJECT
The next DTM requirement involved conducting a Speechcraft or Youth Leadership program I successfully coordinated not one, but two Speechcraft programs, witnessing many participants continue their Toastmasters journey It was incredibly rewarding to see their confidence blossom The final requirement entailed completing the DTM project. I designed a program introducing AI tools for Toastmasters, receiving immense positive feedback. This was just before the rise of AI giants like ChatGPT and Gemini. The project helped participants explore AI tools in creative ways they'd never explored before.
MENTORSHIP AND REBUILDING
Despite my introverted nature, I was fortunate to have mentors like DTM Nurul Munawara, who provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow DTM Nurul had this knack for gently nudging me out of my comfort zone She saw potential in me that I didn't even see myself One such opportunity involved rebuilding the Voice Your Dream Toastmasters Club. Together with DTM Nepa, we revitalized the club, even securing the Distinguished Club Award. This gave me the opportunity to not only complete my "Serve successfully as a club mentor or coach" requirement but also to get exempted from serving a complete one-year term as a District leader The funny thing is, I never knew there was an opportunity like that, even after rebuilding the club and making it stronger! Because our goal was not earning credits, but giving our best So, the exception was just a bonus!
BEYOND THE CLUB
With renewed enthusiasm, I embraced opportunities beyond my club, serving in various leadership roles at the Area, Division, and District levels Each role enhanced my skills and broadened my Toastmasters network.
REFLECTIONS AND LESSONS LEARNED
This journey was challenging yet rewarding. I am grateful for the support of my friend, TM Chamila Gamage, DTM Nurul Munawara, and the entire CEB Toastmasters Club. Looking back, I realize that the DTM journey was not just about checking off requirements; it was about personal growth, leadership development, and forming lasting connections. To those aspiring to DTM recognition, remember the words of Winston Churchill: "Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential." Embrace every opportunity, and just say "Yes!" to leadership training, learning, and development. "It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves." Today, I make a difference in Toastmasters, my workplace, and my community by mentoring new members, leading workshops, and sharing my passion for public speaking. Just say "Yes," and you too can unlock your potential and make a difference.
A Night to Remember:

Special recognitions were made for both TM Janaki Rupasinghe for actively engaging with the club being a charter member and DTM Upul Pallekumbura for becoming the very first DTM of our club
TM Shyami Nisansala & TM Chamila Gamage entertained the audience with soothing sinhala songs making the event more colourful
All the educational presenters from outside the club and Toastmasters who supported with the Speechcraft program were presented with gifts to acknowledge their valuable support
The evening concluded with a sense of renewed purpose and unity As the torch is passed, we look forward to a fruitful year of growth and success
SYNC
AND MOVE MASTER
EFFECTIVE BODY LANGUAGE
BYTMARTHYMOORTHY MARKETERSTOASTMASTERSCLUB
As a dancer, I have spent countless hours in front of the mirror, perfecting the art of movement. Dance teaches you to move your body with the rhythm, to feel every beat as your own. It also teaches you an important lesson, not to compare yourself to others, but to dance for yourself. A great speech is no different. It’s about owning your style, syncing with your story, and moving your audience with authenticity. My journey to understanding the importance of body language began not on a dance floor but at Toastmasters.
WHY BODY LANGUAGE MATTERS
Body language speaks louder than words A simple gesture, a shift in posture, or the warmth in your eye contact can draw people in or push them away. It’s an unspoken language that complements your spoken words, making your message authentic and relatable.
One of the first pieces of feedback I received at Toastmasters was from TM Yashodhara Hemachandra. She pointed out that I kept my hands clasped throughout my speech, making me appear nervous and closed off. That moment was an eyeopener, I realized that body language was as crucial as the words I was saying
MASTERING EYE CONTACT
TM Ayesha Ratnayake, one of my mentors at Marketers Toastmasters Club, gave me a beautiful analogy for eye contact She said, “Use eye contact like dribbling honey on a stage” Eye contact should be gentle, deliberate, and spread evenly across your audience, making each listener feel seen
Pro Tip: Divide your audience into sections and consciously shift your gaze, making eye contact with individuals in each area.
GESTURES AND MOVEMENT
Gestures are like punctuation marks in your speech, while movement connects you with your audience. Think of gestures as choreography for your hands, intentional and expressive. Similarly, purposeful movement, such as stepping forward during a powerful moment, adds depth to your delivery
TOASTMASTERS: A SAFE PLACE TO IMPROVE
Toastmasters has been my training ground for refining these skills Just like in dance, a great speech isn’t about comparison; it’s about finding your rhythm and expressing your story with intention. Sync with your words, move with purpose, and your audience will not just hear, they’ll feel you.
HOW TOASTMASTERS HELPED MY
CONFIDENCE, EXPOSURE, AND ELOQUENCE
were built in me as a privilege of being a Toastmaster for five long years Every Toastmaster meeting at CEB Toastmasters Club helped me in numerous ways to groom myself as a confident public speaker Joining the executive committee of this prestigious club is something I treasure every day. Starting as Vice President of Membership, I was later appointed Vice President of Education, and then President of the club As President, I was able to expand my leadership skills to great depths Frequent communications with prominent figures in the District 82 fraternity greatly helped me build my confidence even further
While preparing for English exams required for migration, my Toastmasters background proved to be incredibly beneficial I am happy to say that I was selected for one of the finest jobs as an Asset Engineer at a prestigious organization in Australia, and I believe my success in the interview was largely due to my Toastmasters experience
Toastmasters has always been one of my finest educators in life, and I encourage all of you to make the most of its benefits
I wish President TM Dilini Weerasinghe and the Executive Committee all the best for their tenure!

BEING
A TOASTMASTER AND ACTIVELY ENGAGE IN TOASTMASTERING IS A
testament, that you stand above the rest in terms of Leadership skills, Presentation Skills & the communication skills I see it as a priviledge to be a part of the toastmasters family, specially when securing my first foreign employment in Australia Through toastmastering, I became more confident in my ability to communicate effectively, an essential skill that employers highly valueThe constructive feedback I received from fellow members helped me to refine my communication style, making me more persuasive and engaging thus becoming a strong candidate during the interviews I faced Moreover, Toastmasters helped me to uplift my leadership skills, allowing me to showcase initiative and a sense of responsibility, must sought qualities by the employers as I believe The networking opportunities within Toastmasters also connected me to a broader international community, that provided valuable insights about the Australian job market. Ultimately, the skills I developed through Toastmasters helped me present myself as a competent and confident candidate significantly which resulted myself in landing a job that exceeded my expectations and career goals
B TOASTMASTER MOMENT EST THISYEAR
I have been a Toastmaster for four years, during which I had the honor of serving as the Club Secretary for the 2021/22 term Over the years, I've completed three levels of the Presentation Mastery pathway and had the privilege of representing my club at the Divisional-level International Speech Contest in 2022 I've also taken on the role of grammarian at various clubs, further enhancing my skills. Although I’ve continued attending meetings whenever possible, my professional commitments have limited my ability to be as active as in recent times. However, this year, my best Toastmasters moment has been reflecting on the growth and experiences I've had through Toastmasters, which continue to inspire and motivate me I look forward to carrying these lessons forward and re-engaging with the club in the future
During the installation ceremony of the CEB Toastmasters Club, I felt both humbled and proud as I was recognized for my contributions Standing in front of the group, I realized how much the club had become a part of my personal growth journey The ceremony was filled with warmth and respect, and I could sense the genuine appreciation from everyone present. Being acknowledged in such a formal setting gave me a sense of accomplishment and validation for the work I've put into improving my public speaking and leadership skills At the same time, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the supportive environment the club has provided me It was inspiring to see fellow members also recognized for their efforts, which reinforced the sense of camaraderie we share I also felt a renewed commitment to continue my journey with Toastmasters, knowing that this recognition was just one step in a larger process of development The recognition during the installation ceremony reinforced my passion for public speaking and the power of being part of a supportive, growth-oriented community
TM JANAKI RUPASINGHE
CEB Toastmasters Club
There are lot of positive things that I love in Toastmasters; including themed meetings, opportunity to develop, mastering the art of public speaking and many more. The most fascinating thing of all is being able to make new friends It might be a training program, a joint meeting or a competition, if I get to meet new friends I am thrilled. I enjoy the vibe of Toastmasters via this aspect So, one skill that I want to develop other than skills that are in toastmaster manual is
“firmly shaking hands with a complete stranger looking at his or her eyes and genuinely wishing a friendly journey ahead”.
TM CHARITH
CEB Toastmasters Club
One standout moment for me was on my first day attending a club meeting With great difficulty, I found the courage to raise my voice and share a few words with the group Speaking up was a big step, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the incredible support from the experienced club members. They went above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable, especially newcomers like myself. These members didn’t just fulfill their roles, they worked diligently to create a genuinely supportive and welcoming environment They took the initiative to make sure each person felt valued, no matter their level of experience Their consistent encouragement made it clear that every member’s participation was important. Thanks to their efforts, the club became a space where everyone could feel comfortable and motivated to grow

B TOASTMASTER MOMENT EST THISYEAR
Last year I was fortunate to have the opportunity of participating for the Area level of the humorous speech and evaluation speech contest. It became a memorable day as our club succeeded in securing wins and we were also able to get through to the divisional level of humorous speech contest as well I really enjoyed listening to the skillful speakers from different clubs in our Toastmaster’s area It also served as a learning session to me where I could observe and extract the speech techniques used by proficient speakers I consider the opportunity to get to know other toastmasters and to build connections with them as another valuable aspect of participating in such events I think of that event as the most memorable event of the toastmasters journey in the previous year for me as it strengthened the bond between our own members where we showcased our support for each other to succeed in our quest for finding the best in ourselves
RUWANI WIJESINGHE CEB Toastmasters Club
One of my best Toastmaster moments this year was delivering my Ice Breaker speech at a joint meeting with DIMO Toastmasters and our own CEB Toastmasters Club Stepping onto the stage, I felt both excitement and nerves, knowing I was speaking to a room filled with new faces The experience was inspiring; the encouragement from an unfamiliar audience felt especially impactful Sharing my story with new people opened my eyes to the power of connections across different clubs and backgrounds. Hearing feedback from diverse perspectives not only boosted my confidence but also added depth to my growth as a speaker This joint meeting was a reminder of how valuable it is to step beyond our usual circles, to engage with fresh voices and perspectives The connections I made that day went beyond the meeting itself, leaving me energized to continue this journey with the support of a wider Toastmasters community
TM BHASHANTHA SUDESH CEB Toastmasters Club
My Best toastmaster moment in year 2024 was the day when CEB Toastmasters celebrated the new year It was filled with both fun and action TM hansi was the toastmaster of that day All attended the meeting with new year costumes The whole meeting was filled with fun and activities We shared our new year fun stories during the meeting It was an amazing moment I can still remember how TM Lasith acted in his speech for his friend by changing his voice There was a group activity for sending message from one another by acting and facial expressions without telling it loud. Having those activities we had conducted TM Meeting with speeches and best role players were gifted with gifts donated by TM Janaki We concluded the meeting listening to melodious duets by TM chamil and TM Chamari. It was a unforgettable toast master meeting in Year 2024
Reflecting on my Toastmasters journey, I still remember the nerves when I hosted the charter installation of CEB Toastmasters in 2015. Fast forward to 2024, and I had the honor of hosting the 10th Installation Ceremony of CEB Toastmasters with a newfound sense of ease and confidence In fact, I was enjoying all of it!!
