Welcome to our 1st e-newsletter for 2021 Although the COVID19 Pandemic is still a big part of our daily lives, we are very excited about this year and look forward to showing you all our new releases on our d6 platform.

We have really worked hard to make sure our communities are equipped for the challenges we face daily especially communication between our schools and parents.

What is new @ d6?

We are excited to announce two brand new features within the d6 Connect app, namely Ride-sharing and Local Listings

Ride-Sharing As parents shift gears to get ready for the new school year, an innovative new app may help them not be driven around the bend trying to organise lifts for their children.

The Ride-sharing app is a unique lift service for school children that offers a convenient, affordable, and safe way to get them to and from school and after-school activities.

The newly launched rides lift service, which is hosted in the d6 Connect app, is a parent ride-share service that links parents who are already making trips to and from school or extramural activities - and able to ferry more children in their car - with parents in their community looking for a ride for their child.

Local Listings

Benefits for the school: • The school can manage their own shuttles and transportation through this service, making booking and payment a breeze.

• Managing and coordinating lifts become easier.

• A portion of the fare will be rewarded to the school.

• Parents can earn a revenue if they have a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) & Operating licence.

A place where community businesses can advertise their contact information in a simple and cost effective way. This will provide users the ability to search for a local service provider directly from the d6 Connect application.

The benefits • 50% rewards back to the school for every listing on a school • Parents have easy access to local community businesses to contact for a service they need.

• Local community businesses (often parents at the school) are supported with exposure.

How does it work?

On the d6 Connect application, there is a new section that opens the Local Listing functionality. A user can click on the name of the community business and can contact / call them directly from the listing itself based on the contact information available.

Cost There is a monthly fee of R90 (excl.

VAT) / R103.50 (incl. VAT) per school.

Self Onboarding option A community service can make use of our Self Onboarding option where they can register and pay for a monthly subscription online.

2021 Curriculum Plans

We know how difficult it can be to maintain the Curriculum weights, dates and types. Therefore we offer a maintenance plan where we do the work on your behalf

What does the Maintenance Plan include?

All the weights, dates, task quantities, assessment quantities and all assessment types (SBA, PAT & Exam) as per SA-SAMS All Curriculum setup steps - except for promotion formulas - will be covered in the Maintenance Plan.

Schools will spend 5 minutes per term on their own Curriculum to copy subject choices, groups and rights.

Subject Specific Formula Maintenance Plan

Nearly that time of year again where all schools need Promotion marks at the end of the year! It can be time consuming, complicated at times and a tedious process.

We understand that our schools are under pressure and therefor offer the following:

The Outsourcing Option

The Self-Help-Workshop Option

This option is available for staff members who would like to save time and money by outsourcing the Promotion marks, formulas and set up to the d6 Enrichment Team.

The workshop will be hosted at our Pretoria offices at the end of the year where training will be given to the staff members who would rather learn how to do the Promotion Marks, formulas and set up on their own.

Cost: R 3500 (excl. VAT) for grade R - 7 R 3500 (excl. VAT) for grade 8 - 12

Cost: R 575.00 (excl. VAT) per person

If your school has previously attended any of our d6 Enrichment training workshops, you will receive a R500 discount when registering.

Should you already have the Curriculum Maintenance Plan or Departemental Submission Maintenance plan, you will receive a further R500 discount upon registration.

If you register for the Outsourcing Plan, you are eligible to bring TWO extra staff members for FREE when you book a spot at one of our Admin Year-End Workshops

SGB 2021 ELECTIONS What roles/duties does a school governing body have?

All activities in and around a school are mainly regulated by the South African Schools Act. The core provision with regard to the functions of governing bodies is found in section 16(1), read in conjunction with section 16(3), which stipulates that the governance of every public school is vested in its governing body. The Schools Act, in section 21 and 22, then imposes certain functions and duties on the governing body. The school governing body plays a key role in drafting a number of policies, including the admissions policy, language policy, religious policy and the school’s code of conduct. The governing body is also involved in appointing staff at the school and managing the school’s finances.

Some of the most significant and useful governing body functions are to promote the school’s interests and ensure the provision of quality education.

Furthermore, it is important to note that section 16(2) provides that a governing body occupies a position of trust towards the school. This means that a governing body is expected to act in the school’s best interests at all times and that a governing body member can incur personal liability if he/she should ever breach this relationship of trust. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the members elected to the governing body are people of integrity who have the school’s interests at heart.
