Hey Ellie’s! I hope everyone’s having successful club rushes and excited for spooky season! Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year and I can’t wait for all the warm cozy sweaters and autumn leaves (or as close as we can get to that in SoCal). Make sure to take this time to focus on getting those dues paid from new members and promoting fall rallies. Remember you must attend at least 2 fall Rallies and 1 DCM to attend fall rally. STOMP STOMP ELLIES!

Can you believe we are already HALFWAY through our term? I cer tainly can’t. Let’s make this second half even better than the first! We’ve already accomplished so much throughout this term so keep it up! I believe that we will be able to surpass our goals this year and even WIN THAT SPIRIT STICK. Please keep in mind as Fall Rally approaches to attend all necessary events (2 Pre-Fall Rallies + 1 DCM/Region Event) and be sure to get 20 hours of service in order to be eligible to attend. There are so many opportunities for service this month, it’ll be quite a busy one. It’s finally KEY CLUB SEASON so get excited, I can’t wait to see you all at more events this month!

On August 24th and September 1st, our club hosted Club Rush to excite members to join. We dressed in our Key Club attire: division shirts, flower crowns, pom poms, and set up our posters. With just 35 minutes of lunch, we put forth our best efforts into exemplifying the benefits of joining. As students got out of class, they started to crowd around our table and asked “What is Key club?”

It felt like a group that I would enjoy being in!” Both new and returning members got to listen to the history of how this club was founded, as well as become educated on past events. This was such a success in showcasing Key Club spirit. As officers, Club Rush was a great way to get our club more involved, and expand our horizons to the new freshman.

COLOR WARS

WARS DCM

On August 27th, the division hosted its annual Color Wars DCM. Key Clubbers arrived in their white shirts, ready for the color dust. The event started with the DCM where each club gave a report on their activities in the past month. Throughout the event, the division also offered boba from Miss Tea. The boba was especially refreshing as the day was rather hot. After the DCM, members participated in two activities that involved color dust. The first one required members to make teams in order to compete in a drawing contest. Each team was tasked to recreate a certain drawing with the color dust given to them. Their canvas was a teammate of their choosing. After each drawing was completed, there was a voting contest to determine which team’s creation was the most popular. The second activity was Freeze Tag. The “taggers” would use the color dust in order to “freeze” the other players. Once frozen, another player would need to use more color dust to “unfreeze” them. Walnut Key Club member Alice Chen recalled that she “liked being able to throw stuff at [her] friends without getting in trouble for it.”

LaVerne GrandPrix

I have been cycling as a sport and hobby for several years now, so I was so excited when I heard that Key Club would be volunteering at a bike race. Even better, it was local, so I would not have to drive for 30 minutes as I do for other events. The event did not disappoint; watching the La Verne Grand Prix while earning service and helping the race run smoothly was great. For a few hours, Josh and I stood on the road guiding cars that needed to cross the course.

It was interesting to run after cars to yell at them to let them know not to enter the course. Because I had brought my bike, I was also tasked with delivering water and messages to other volunteers stationed around the course. Pizza and donuts were also bought for us in the afternoon, but I had already bought tacos from a taco van, which were amazing. And of course, it was greatly rewarding to see all our hard work make the race pos

IPOLY’S FIRST GENERAL MEETING

On August 18th, IPoly Key Club held our first general meeting of the 2022-2023 school year! This was quite a refreshing return, after we held all of our meetings online during the summer. It was held during lunch in our advisor, Ms. Pellegrini’s classroom. Although it was held preClub Rush (a catalyst for membership), it still showed a strong turnout, with faces old and new! In this meeting, we detailed upcoming events for our club and for our division,

and introduced Fall Rally to those who may not be familiar. “I really want to go to Fall Rally this year,” was a wish expressed by member Katherine Lim at this meeting, and we’re glad to hear it.

We hope this meeting served as a warm welcome for newcomers (and perhaps a warm welcome-back for everyone else). We have lots in store for this year, and we couldn’t be more excited!
