Letters from DNE Hello, District 33 Roosters! I am Jelitza Tapia, your District News Editor. It is finally 2021 and even though 2020 wasn’t the best, I hope some of you guys still had a good year. Even though 2020 is over, that doesn’t mean that all our problems are gone, including our internal problems. Even though we can’t do much about our country’s problems and the world’s, we can still solve our own problems. No matter what our problems are, we can still do something about them. If that problem is a family, friend, school, or even a problem you have with yourself. Do something about it, don’t just keep it inside. Many of you probably don’t want to start the beginning of the year feeling down or held back. It’s never too late to take action on your issues.

Especially if you want to start off the year in a good place, try spreading kindness and most importantly “Treat People With Kindness” (H.S) If you want to bring change in our world then just say something nice to a person you don’t know. Remember it doesn’t take much, it only takes 5 seconds of your time to make someone’s day. Now that I have spread the message, it is time to talk about what is going to be in District 33’s January Newsletter. The newsletter will contain old business, new business, January’s SOSP, and etc.

There will be no theme for this month’s newsletter. The newsletter will also contain a new page called “My Key Club Story”. I hope everyone did well for their finals and had a well deserved three days weekend. I hope as you guys read this month’s newsletter that you will like it as much as I do. Please share the newsletter with your fellow Key Club members and to anyone who you think would be interested in joining our Key Club team!

Remember Roosters, be safe, be careful, and always wear a mask.

CLUB Service Activities

Wonderful did a food distribution for their club service activity. Alongside a small group of adult volunteers, they filled boxes with food in order to give them to those in need in the community. Whoever wanted the food would come in their vehicles and take the food home. The food distribution was very successful.

Every box was given away!

January SOSP As a new year unfolds, so does a new year full of service! And, what better way to start off this year then a project for the Children’s Miracle Network? The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is a non-profit organization that raises funds for children's hospitals, medical research, and community awareness of children's health issues. This guide is designed to give you inspiration for service and fundraising ideas for January’s SOSP theme: the Children’s Miracle Network.

MyKey Club Story Samantha's Key club Story: Key Club has impacted my life in a multitude of ways. My skills in leadership, teamwork, and communication have greatly improved by being in Key Club. It has also challenged my fellow officers and me to think out of the box when it comes to activities, especially during this time when they’re all exclusively online. I think the biggest way Key Club has impacted my life is by being more confident in myself. As a former VP and current President and Spirit Coordinator, confidence is key to engage everyone. I’ve slowly but surely came out of my shell because my positions required it.

Emily's Key Club Story: Emily started Key Club back in 2019 just in time for the Arvin's Christmas event at Walmart.

Emily got involved in Key Club when she knew different students from different schools in the KHSD came to the East Hills Walmart to volunteer their time for families in need. This was a very special day for Emily because this was one of the first times she volunteered her own time as a Key Club member. Emily states, "The day was beautiful, we started bright and early with smiles on our faces. We were greeted with the pleasure of knowing the children were provided breakfast, as well as we were. When the event officially started, every chaperone allied for the child to choose from their liking at the store. The smiles on every child were heartwarming, I can say witnessing that alone was the best Christmas gift to receive as a volunteer."

Art Auction

For our December DCM, we reviewed DLT reports, Club reports, and our service activity highlights. At the December DCM, we discussed the Art Action details, the December SOSP, and our Candidate Training Conference. In the Kiwanis DCM, they discussed future open positions, future projects, their schedule for the following months, and they had some activities that some of the members enjoyed. For the CTC, Region 11 & 12 Lt. Governors provided fun and informative workshops to those interested in running for the 2021-2022 Lt. Governor position.

In our Art Auction D33 raised and met our goal of over $800. The Art Auction had participants from 5 of our key clubs. It was very successful! Everyone there had a great time and presented beautiful art pieces.
