Division News Editor Introduction Hello, Division 33, I am Jelitza Tapia, your former and new Division News Editor. I am so happy and honored to be back!!! If there are new readers joining, welcome! To all the new readers I was the former News Editor and then during my last term, I was reelected. My goal for this term is to display the growth I have gained over the experiences of my last term. Another goal of mine is to spread the word and expand the promise of Key Club. Through the power of the newsletter and the audience, I would like to increase the number of Key Club members. I noticed that during my first term I never really introduced myself on a personal level so I would like to tell you guys some things about me. My favorite color is grey, my favorite singer is Harry Styles, and my favorite rapper is Tyler, The Creator. Although I love Tyler, The Creator, another one of my favorite rappers is Cardi B. One of my favorite things to do on this planet is listening to music. I am also a very sociable person and love to dance. I watch many T.V shows but at the moment, the T.V shows that I am watching right now are The Big Bang Theory, Ginny & Georgia, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. There is a whole list of T.V shows that I watch and what I enjoy doing but those are the topics about me that you need to know in case you meet me in person someday.

If someone had this question, do I prefer DC or Marvel my reply would be...DC’s T.V shows are way better than Marvel’s and Marvel’s movies are way better than DC’s movies. Now onto the newsletter. There is no specific theme to this month’s newsletter. Now if you call pastel a theme well then there you go because I put pastel on at least half of the pages. The newsletter will discuss the topics of the 2021-2022 DLT Confirmations, Club Service Activities, May SOSP, and much more! Even though much pressure was put upon my shoulders on the making of the newsletter, nevertheless I was delighted and blissful of the creation of my newsletter. I am thankful for the ability to once again be the Division’s News Letter Editor. Please share the newsletter with your fellow Key Club members and to anyone who you think would be interested in joining our Key Club team! Club Service Activities Arvin, South Bakersfield, and WCAP all conducted their own Club Service Activities for the month of May. Arvin hosted a clothing drive; they were collecting clothes for children at the Jamison Center in Bakersfield. The Jamison Center is an emergency shelter for foster children. Arvin gathered clothes from ages 3-16 as well as bags/backpacks, shoes, and socks. Arvin collected the clothes on May 15. WCPA attended a Special Kiwanis Awards Night. The reason for the night was to introduce the new LTG and formally retire the prior LTG. The prior LTG received a service award the time they served as lieutenant governor and their time spent in the community. Covid-19 restrictions were followed during the event.

May SOSP & Service Ideas With the Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). In 20 different countries around the world, 60,000 innocent babies and mothers die each year. When tetanus spores come into contact with open cuts during child birth, MNT causes painful convulsions and sensitivity to light and sound, affecting both the mother and the child.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, Kiwanis and UNICEF are working together in order to immunize babies and mothers all across the globe. Our pledge of USD $110,000 will provide vaccines, syringes, transportation, and medical staff. Let’s work together to fulfill our promise and save thousands of lives from a preventable infection.

Just $1.80 for a vaccine can save the lives of many.

Old Business For the month of April, D33 had a DCM with the retiring DLT team. During that DCM the Community Outreach SOSP was promoted. D33 helped advertise the program created by a high school student that. There were also training conferences with the new DLT, as well as DLT elections. In the April DCM, the Division discussed the new LTG, Recgonistions, DCON reflections, Service Activity Highlights, the April newsletter, the April SOSP. and much more! The SOSP was a Community Outreach planned on May 8th @ 10:00 a.m. The Project was needed to Donate bed sheets, bed frames, new mattresses, and money donations. Adriana Alverado was the retiring LTG at the DCM. The Division gave her the finest farewell and good luck on her future. The training conferences were for new DLT members that were interested in becoming a part of the Key Club Team! If you would like to become a part of the team, contact the LTG. His contacts below are on page 11. The DLT elections were held and were not as promising as the team hoped to be. The Division did not have enough applications.
