Letter From DNE Hello, District 33 Roosters! I am Jelitza Tapia, your District News Editor. I hope everybody had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and got to spend some time with their loved ones. To a lot of us, Valentine’s day was different, but even if you didn’t go out because of the pandemic. You still could of had the Valentine’s Day spirit. Even I, your District News Editor went out to RideAid to buy some chocolates and all the basic needs that a person could want on Valentine’s day. Now I wasn’t able to hang out with everybody in my extended family, but I was able to share my Valentine’s day with my parents and my brother. I wish that everyone had the chance to do that too and that they had a good Valentine’s Day with their families. Just remember that Valentine’s Day is not all about presents, sweets, nor stuffed animals. Valentine’s Day is about love and how you use it. Even though it is cheesy, it is true. Instead of giving someone a huge bear, try giving them a huge hug. Also, do not go around and give people huge hugs. Do not do that unless they are your family or you know they are clean. Even though touch is one of the many love languages, that does not mean you should use it. Try using the love language of words like giving someone you know or even someone you don’t know a compliment. It only takes 3 seconds and it’s free with no hidden fees. February is the month of love, which means that this month’s newsletter will be Valentine’s Day themed. In D33’s newsletter, this month will have our usual Club Service Activity Highlights, February SOSP, Old News, New Business, and our Division Recognitions. But we will also have some fun and new topics in our newsletter as well. To find out what February’s new topics are, you will have to keep reading the newsletter. To give you a hint, they are both Valentine’s Day related. This month’s newsletter was delightful to make and I appreciate everyone who contributed to the newsletter this month. Please share the newsletter with your fellow Key Club members and to anyone who you think would be interested in joining our Key Club team! Remember Roosters, be safe, be careful, and always wear a mask.
Service Club Activities On January 30th 2021, four members from Wonderful College Prep Academy’s Key Club hosted an activity with the Delano Kiwanis Club. Division 33’s LTG Adriana Alvarado, her executive assistant Deborah Landeros, and WCPA’s Committee Chairmen Julio Gutierrez joined their sponsoring Kiwanis members to assemble hygiene kits that would be given to the local homeless shelter. Reviving this activity has once again inspired camaraderie in the community and showcased that helping those less fortunate than us is always a great thing to do.
Meet Our New LTG Julio Gutierrez What are you most excited about for your upcoming LTG role? "I'm most excited to work with other divisions, clubs, and people to host events in Key Club. Doing events with members and officers helps build the Key Club community, whether the events are informative or service-based. A large part of my Key Club experience starting out was the events I attended and heard about through other members of Key Club that were more experienced." -Julio
Julio played as a starter on 2 different sports teams freshman and sophomore year.
Old News
In the month of January, we had our January DCM, our Kiwanis DCM, the Conclave, the Art Auction, and the division Origami Service Activity. Our January DCM was on January 23rd @ 1 pm. At the DCM the club DLT's talked about WBTC Reflections, January's SOSP, our past conclave, and much more. The Kiwanis DCM was joined by our LTG Adriana Alvarado and one of our DLT Maai. The meeting was filled with club updates and future duties. The meeting also conducted some fun activities. The Conclave was a meeting about who will be D33's new LTG. Julio G. was selected by his peers to be D33's new LTG. Julio shared his experiences in Key Club and what made him qualified to take over the position. The Art Auction was a big success. Key Club members and officers made every type of art imaginable and we sold every piece of art to our Kiwanas Members. The artist raised over $1,000. D33 also had a very fun origami service on February 6th. The service was to promote the patientsat the Lauren Small Children's Center at Memorial Hospital in celebration of Valentine's Day.
Art Auction The Art Auction was an event for every Artist in the division to show off their creative skills and help raise money for Key Club. Our goal was to reach $800 but instead, we raised $1,608. The members' art pieces were bought from our fellow Kiwanis and sent to new homes. The Art Auction was very successful!

What Is Your Favorite Thing about Valentine's Day? "My favorite thing about Valentine's Day is spending time with my friends. We eat out at IHOP. I really enjoy making little dessert gifts like cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. I think Valentine's Day is a day for people to really celebrate their love for each other or simply a great friendship! "
-Adriana Alvarado "My favorite thing about Valentine's Day is being able to make goodies for my friends. I enjoy baking and making baskets for my friends, and Valentine's Day is when I tend to give my friends something special! "
