Happy End-of-AP Testing, Llamas! And just like that, the 2018-19 term has officially started. I hope you all had fun crying, laughing, and making many memories at DCON together. Make sure to thank your IP officers, and IP LTG Angela Wong for all the hard work they’ve put into the Division. On the upside, there’s only a few more weeks until school ends-we’re so close to being stress-free!!! Be sure to continue to spend your time attending service events, fundraisers, and hanging out with your fellow Llamas at Division events. Remember that just because school is over, Key Club does not. Key Club continues on all year, so make sure you’re still active during the summer. We are now officially the Division 2 South Lavender Llamas, and that means we can start to create new traditions! Make sure to look out for our future events, we’re making big moves this term. We have many goals ahead of us: $4,500 Service Hours, $3,000 raised for PTP and $1,000 raised for MNT, 400 dues paid members, 5 service events per month per club, and at least $100 donated per month per club. WHEW that was a lot. But, we can reach our goals slowly but surely. So how can YOU contribute? Be an active Key Club member, convince your friends to join Key Club, go to service events, fundraisers, DCMS, and more! It only takes one small thing to change someone’s life, and for a lot of us that was that $11.50 we paid as small freshmen. Officer Training Conference will be on June 10th , the June DWS on the 23 rd , and the June DCM will be on June 30th! Make sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming events, and I look forward to seeing all of you there! Here’s to a new beginning filled with unforgettable memories, tears, and more. A: One of my favorite Key Club memories was seeing all my friends and other members of Division 2 get distinguished and recognized at DCON 2018!

Q: What kind of service events do you like to attend? A: I like to attend events where there is a lot of interaction between people. Q: What is your favorite Key Club memory? A: My favorite Key Club memory is when I went and volunteered at the Alameda food bank. I had a lot of fun and I liked working closely with the people there.

Emily Zhen KIPP KING Q: What is your favorite aspect of Key Club? A: My favorite aspect of Key Club is the community that it builds. I could easily meet people by attending events, and there's already a connection because we'll both be in Key Club and both have a love for service. Q: What kind of service events do you like to attend? A: I love attending service events that offers a face-to-face connection with the people that I'm volunteering for. For example, I recently attended a Red Cross event called "Sound the Alarm," where I was able to help install fire alarms for the people living around an Oakland area. It was really rewarding being able to see the direct impact that I make and to interact with the people who are at the receiving end of the service. Q: What is your favorite Key Club memory? A: My favorite memory was seeing Key Club get chartered at my school! It was a proud moment for me to see a lot of my friends on the board celebrate because I had seen them work endlessly to get chartered and knowing that their hard work paid off meant a lot to me.

A:Â How everyone is inclusive and has open minds :,) i can go to an event with people i don't even talk to on the daily and make new bonds which makes me happy ! Q: What kind of service events do you like to attend? A: Personally i do enjoy events involving kids :) seeing their faces light up with small knickknacks like slime or cards makes my day ! Q: What is your favorite Key Club memory? My favorite Key Club memory has to be my first DCONE. Key Club is a reason I've opened up and at DCON I met so many new people and made many new friendships. Plus, we are all in Key Club so there's already something in common lol

club report To start the month off, Alameda went to the Wa Sung Pancake Breakfast to make pancakes and help serve them to the people of our community. We also went to the MS Walk in San Francisco and helped set up tables and cheer on the runners! As well as helping out in San Francisco, we also helped out at the Bay Area Book Festival in Berkeley. To help fund our club, get service hours and celebrate our seniors graduating, we had a Lei Making day at the Alameda Library and had a great time bonding with one another. To end the month off, we helped guide runners during the Alameda Hospital 5k Run and keep them on course. pictured above: members volunteering at the MS Walk

district convention Wondering what is BUZZing in town? Arroyo Key Clubbers attended DCON from April 13 to 15 in Reno, Nevada. For some of the Arroyo Key Clubbers it was their first time going to DCON, but they really enjoyed it and had fun there. Attendees were able to choose from various workshops to go, learn and develop more skills to help them become a better Key Clubber, but also how to be a better leader as well. Most of the workshop were hosted by officers from different districts. As we know, DCON stands for District Convention, it is an opportunity to meet new friends from many different areas in California, Nevada, and Hawaii. On the first night of DCON members were able to go to any restaurant for dinner and for the rest of the trip breakfast, lunch, and dinner was cooked and served. In one of the four general sessions, there was a guest performance by AJ Rafael, who also hosted a few workshops himself. What also occurred was the voting of the new Lieutenant Governor. At the Region meeting for 6 &9, the new mascot for division 2 was announced and everyone was so excited that we are now the Lavender Llamas. Before Saturday night ended, all key clubbers were invited to the Governor’s Ball, where everyone went to dance their hearts, bond with Lieutenant Governor Angelica while meeting new people. CLUB UPDATE: This month was a pretty slow month trying to get the new board completely set in their positions. We were only able to have one event this month which was the Earth Day Cleanup, however we were able to have 10 attendees for DCON. For the next month, we have many new events to make a comeback from the lack of events we had this month, including 1 fundraiser and a possibility of another fundraiser. ISSUE 1.1 | PAGE 16

earth day clean up Volunteers woke up early Saturday morning, hoping to make a small difference in our local environment. Students, adults, teachers, and children headed to CVHS to celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up the school. We signed in, received our gloves, and got ready to get to work. Some people split up into different groups either to pull out poison ivy, plant, add more mulch to old gardens, pick up trash, or help carry heavy materials around. CV key clubbers got put together in the group that helped pull out the plentiful amounts of poison ivy lying near classrooms. Although it was a slightly chilly day, we started sweating in no time because of the unbudging ivy that refused to be pulled out. Multiple times, people had to use shears or use the manpower of two to three people just to pull a few ivies out. After that was done, we were able to see the results of our hard work; 20 bags filled with ivies and dead branches were ready to be taken away by CV Sans. Soon after, we were given another task to fill colorless gardens with new mulch. Just running across campus with an empty wheelbarrow was a joy, but the satisfaction of seeing more color variety to seemingly dead gardens was more rewarding. Many members would’ve found garden work boring and a hassle, but this event has taught them that maybe getting yourself a little dirty isn’t as bad as it seems. CLUB UPDATE: DCON 2018 in Reno was a blast when we got to talk with roommates late into the night and see AJ Rafael’s performance. Although the tasks from the old board are transitioning to the new board, we still consistently have new events coming up. The month of April was eventful and full of tears as the old board retires, but hopeful as the new board officially begin their duties.

the food bank This month one of the events the Encinal Key Club attended was at the food bank. First, we sorted food into the boxes in the picture. We then handed out food to anyone who came seeking nutrients. We got to talk to a lot of interesting people while handing out the food. The Key Clubbers in the picture are ready to hand out food to the needy. CLUB UPDATE: This has been a bit of a turbulent month for our small Key Club. We've had some trouble with re-elections and almost had re-re-elections. However this was sorted out and we got back on track. Because of these events we were only able to attend the DCM, banquet, and the food bank. We hope to make a strong comeback in May.

cherry blossom festival For the month of April, San Leandro Key Club volunteered at The Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco. At this event, the streets were filled with floats and organizations in celebration of Japanese culture. Each member was assigned to a staff member in groups, here they had a hands on experience with new individuals. Key clubbers fixed barricades protecting the colorful and intricent floats and directed festival goers around to ensure safety. Although it was a challenging volunteer event due to the major number of attendees, members basked in the rich showcase of Japanese culture. Not only did our members work hard to protect the safety of the audience and ones participating in the parade, they also developed a strong appreciation of Japanese culture, and even an appreciation of their own. CLUB UPDATE: In April, San Leandro Key club hosted a great number of events! These events included the aforementioned Cherry Blossom Festival, a color run at John Muir Middle School, the Special Olympics in Pleasanton, the Uhuru Health Festival, and an egg hunt to celebrate Easter. We also hosted our first general meeting of the 2018-2019 term after installing our new board and welcoming back our members from DCON!

HELLO LLAMAS! I am so ecstatic for this opportunity to serve all of you as Division 2 South's very first DNE! This will be my fourth and final term in Key Club, so I plan on going all out and persevering through any hardships that may come in my direction. I can not wait to see all of the accomplishments we will achieve, and I look forward to keeping track of all these things in the newsletters. With summer break coming up soon, I highly encourage you all to remain active in getting your service hours! Summer offers a great chance for this, and it is so much more rewarding to be out helping the community instead of watching Netflix all day. To those of you who will be busy with summer programs and/or SAT/ACT Prep classes, remember to not stress yourself out toooo much, as summer is supposedly meant for relaxation! If you ever have any comments/suggestions on how I could improve my publications, I would love to hear your feedback, so please don't be hesitant about contacting or approaching me on any occasion! I am often super unobservant and clumsy, so I swear it's never my intent to ignore anyone. I may also look angry 99% of the time, but that's unfortunately just my natural facial expression.
