HIYA LLAMAS! It’s June, almost July. I can’t say I particularly enjoy the hot weather here. I swear that my room is the hottest in the house, so I opt for sleeping downstairs where it’s much cooler! What has everyone been up to lately? Personally, I know I shouldn’t but I spend a lot of time on social media looking at cat videos, but… They’re all so irresistibly ADORABLE! It’s either that or playing Genshin Impact, a video game, on my phone. Good luck to everyone who applied for District Tech Team or the District Visual Media Team! Psst… by the time this newsletter gets out, you still have time to apply, so if you’ve been considering it, go for it! If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my Key Club journey, it’s to never give up on the things you want, I’ll be your personal cheerleader! WOOP WOOP! Finally, thanks for reading this edition of the Llama Letters, I hope you enjoy!

Happy 17th Birthday Jennifer! May 29th was Jennifer’s birthday! Friend to many and leader to all, our spirit coordinator Jennifer deserves all the love!
June DWS First, our spirit coordinators Jennifer and Kim led D2S through three rounds of Oh Deer to separate members into groups of four to encourage mingling during the service. Throughout the two hours of service, members fetched pounds of litter from the shore to the heart of the park. After our successful DWS, Valentina and Mr. Emmanuel organized a Division bonding at iTea and enjoyed their drinks to relax after a day of service! Description provided by Jennifer Guan

FRIENDSHIP, FLOWERS, & FESTIVITIES Rose Garcia |KIPP King In the month of May, we hosted an event called “Flowers for Mothers” which was to honor the maternal figures in our lives by making them paper flowers! Though the event ended up small, our spirits were far from it! Lively conversation erupted in our zoom call, ranging from Jennifer’s cat, pictured there, to upcoming AP tests and plans for Mother’s Day! Aside from the paper flowers, we also played a few games to get to know each other more! We played Gartic Phone, a game similar to telephone! The game revolves around typing situations, drawing them, and putting in guesses for what they are, the guesses then are drawn by someone else. This cycle continues until the end in which we get to see the progression of everyone’s drawings and guesses! The differences between the initial situations and the final drawings were drastic, leaving us both surprised and amused. Around the end, I found out that I wasn’t alone in struggling to make a paper flower! We shared our attempts at the flowers, and unanimously agreed that the tutorials that we had found were all very fast paced. All in all, the event was fun, and despite struggling, we were all able to produce at least one paper flower, or an attempt at one like mine!
LATE NIGHT GAME NIGHT! Kai Suwandi | San Leandro Among the many fun events this May, at the end of the month San Leandro held a game night bonding event where we played Among Us! We bonded as we found out who the imposter was and did tasks, and many new members came in to join in on the fun and meet current members and officers! We played dozens of games over an hour and a half full of laughs. There were some heated moments during the emergency meetings, but once the game was over everyone was smiling and laughing with each other. Not only was this a great time for our members to get to know each other while having fun, but it was also a great opportunity for everyone to have a little fun while we were getting ready for finals. For San Leandro’s first bonding event of the 2021 term, it was a fun start for the year ahead and we hope to hold many more bonding events like this one!
JUNE DWS: PARK CLEANUP +
SENIOR SEND-OFF Katie Tanaka | Castro Valley WHATS UP LLAMAS! In the month of June we had our first in person DWS! This brought back the energy and excitement back to our club. In this DWS, we had a park clean up at Marina Park in San Leandro. There were a bunch of people from different divisions that came! Also going back to late May, we delivered our key club stoles and little cards to our seniors going off to college! It was very sad, but we are excited to see them grow up!
During the month of May, Alameda Key Club has been keeping busy! We hosted the following service events: a Color-a Smile de-stress session along with a relaxing movie/service night where we watched The Secret Garden. Additionally, we collaborated with Castro Valley Interclub to hold an origami and letter-writing service event for local hospital patients/staff. In terms of fundraising, our club held two fundraisers (shout out to our beloved treasurer, Carly, for her hard work 💜). One was a cottage-core themed care package fundraiser while for the other, we sold boba which we delivered to people at the DCM. It was a success! We raised over $100 total from this which we allotted toward PTP. Besides the service events and fundraisers, Alameda Key Club also re-established ongoing service events for the 2021-2022 year by posting new infographics. These included Charity Miles, Color a Smile, and Free Rice. We also attended the May DCM eLEMONate; it was a lot of fun to see everyone in person after so long!
In the month of May, AHS Key Club planned to have a board meeting of all the officers to kick everything off. There is nothing much to report other than the planned board meeting as of this month. However, we have received some training for each person’s position as well.
In the month of June, our club officers and some of our EA’s got together to have a DCM planning meeting on June 5th. We expect to have the DCM on June 26th. This DCM: Pies for PTP will be hosted by our club, so we better see you guys there!! Also CV key club is excited to attend the KCTC coming up on June 12th where us officers could learn more about our roles and positions, as well as other positions we might be interested in!
We planned some events and attended some events.
During the month of May, we hosted 2 zoom events and 1 online event in addition to our three ongoing service events! The events were the following: the Flowers for Mothers event, an event that consisted of submissions of appreciation messages for teachers being sent in for service hours (Messages of Appreciation), and a Lilo & Stitch interclub movie night with San Lorenzo High! Our ongoing events consist of freerice, charity miles, and bean bean bean, which all require screenshots to be sent in as proof of service. For the month of June, we still are in the planning stages of seeing what events to do, but we have Messages for Motivation planned for this Wednesday June 2nd to help encourage people in light of finals and the end of the semester and school year! We also will continue to have our ongoing service events of bean bean bean, freerice, and charity miles during the month of June.
Hello, Division 2 South! In May, we had 3 different service events, Pause For, Mental Health Infographics, and Letters to Our Men-At-Arms. We also attended the May DCM where we received the Club of the Month and Faculty Advisor of the Month awards! Unfortunately, member recruitment has been slow lately due to testing and the school year coming to a close, but we’re working on doing more promotion for our club in the near future.
This month, SLKC held and attended many service and bonding events. Of course, we had our first bonding event, Game Night, but we also held a Youth Service Day with CSUEB on the 30th. There, members learned about college and got advice on admissions and going through college. In the middle of the month we had an interclub event with San Lorenzo where we watched To All the Boys: Always and Forever on the 21st as we made cards for loved ones. Our ongoing service events are also still happening (Beanbeanbean, FreeRice, Charity Miles), and we also started a new one where we drew inspirational messages on the sidewalk for passerbyers. We also attended the first in person DCM with the new board and a new member.
This month, SLZ Key Club was able to continue 5 at home events of which includes Color A Smile, Charity Miles, Beanbeanbean, Freerice, and UNICEF’s Math For Good Challenge and collaborated with 2 different clubs to host interclub events. San Lorenzo was able to host our first general meeting of the term of 2021-2022 on May 18th. SLZ was also able to attend a LTG visitation on the 17th of May and an EA visitation on the 26th where we discussed goals, new ideas for events, and possible improvements. We will continue to work hard to create and host more at home and interclub events in order to increase member participation. Overall, this month was very productive and we will continue being diligent to ensure this continues.
