APOSTOLIC APOLOGY One of the hallmarks of the church is her timelessness and her ability to remain constant in an age when absolutes and truth are called “relative.” The Church of Jesus Christ has received from Christ a system of government, which is vested with the apostles, and their successors, the bishops. Bishops have been given the unique ministry of healing for the body of Christ in the earth, and because of their relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ the bishops become the spiritual progenitors of sons and daughters for the Kingdom of God. This fellowship is a fellowship of holy assemblies which has membership in the universal Body of Christ. As such, we preserve the message of Christ’s redeeming love through His atonement, and we declare holiness of life to be His requirement for all men who would enter into the Kingdom of God. We preach and practice baptism in water; a personal infilling of the Holy Ghost, evidenced by “speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance;” a daily walk with the Lord in the beauty of holiness; and life after death. We claim the Apostolic Succession to Christ and His apostles through Augustine of Rome who established the Church of England, which came to be known as “Anglicana” and from which came the Episcopal Church and Methodism in America. From that stream both our Senior Bishop and Presiding Bishop were ordained by bishops who were themselves set apart as Ordinaries from Methodism and successors to Saint Peter, Saint James (The Righteous) brother of our Lord and all of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. By this claim, which is well documented, ‘Her Grace’ therefore will pass that same Apostolic Succession on to those who qualify for the same. Several Prelates sit with us today, who have the same “succession” of which they are possessors, and whose theology is compatible with fundamental Christian doctrine. We delight to have them share with us in this historical processional. It should also be stated that both our Senior Bishop and our Presiding Bishop are possessors of “Apostolic Succession” from both the Western Stream, and from the Patriarchy of the East as well. This claim is documented in the Apology presented here today.

PREFACE TO THE ORDINAL The Holy Scriptures and ancient Christian writers make it clear that from the apostles’ time, there have been different ministries within the Church. In particular, since the time of the New Testament, three distinct orders of ordained ministers have been characteristic of Christ’s Holy Universal Church. First there is the Order of Bishops who carries on the apostolic work of leading, supervising, and uniting the Church. Secondly, associated with them are the Presbyters, or Ordained Elders, in subsequent times generally known as priests. Together with the Bishops, they take part in the governance of the Church, in the carrying out of its missionary and pastoral work, and in the preaching of the Word of God and administering His Holy Sacraments. Thirdly, there are the Deacons who assist Bishops and Elders in all of this work. It is also a special responsibility of Deacons to minister in Christ’s name to the poor, the sick, the suffering, and the helpless. The persons who are chosen and recognized by the Church as being called by God to the ordained ministry are admitted to these sacred orders by solemn prayer and the laying on of Episcopal hands. It has been, and is, the intention and purpose of this Communion of Bishops to maintain and continue these three orders; and for this purpose, these services of ordination, elevation, and investiture are appointed. No person shall wear the insignia of these offices unless they are ordained, and or have already received ordination with the laying on of hands by Bishops and Elders who are duly qualified to confer Holy Orders. We also recognize the call of God for the ministers (servants) of the gospel of Jesus Christ and will send them forth to proclaim the truth of Him. It is also recognized and affirmed that the threefold ministry is not the exclusive property of this portion of Christ’s Church, but it is a gift of God for the nurture of His people and the proclamation of His gospel everywhere. Accordingly, the manner of ordaining in this church is to be such as has been, and generally recognized by the Christian people as suitable for the conferring of the sacred orders of Bishop, Elder, and Deacon. At the announcement of the Chief Consecrator, the processions are led into the main sanctuary for the Celebration of Consecration and Investiture. Worshippers are asked to stand when the Procession enters the Main Sanctuary and the sound of the Hymn of Adoration begins (All Hail the Power of Jesus Name) and thereafter, continue to follow the Ordinal as printed.

Elect from ev'ry nation, Yet one o'er all the earth, Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With ev'ry grace endued. 'Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war, She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore; Till with the vision glorious, Her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest. Yet she on earth hath union With God, the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won; O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee

Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, Ye ransomed from the Fall, ye ransomed from the Fall, Hail him who saves you by his grace, Let ev’ry kindred, ev’ry tribe, On this terrestrial ball, on this terrestrial ball, To Him all majesty ascribe, Oh, that with all the sacred throng We at His feet may fall, we at His feet may fall! The Chief Consecrator:

Blessed be the God who forgives all sins.

The People:

The Chief Consecrator:

Almighty God: to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from You no secrets are hid; Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love You and worthily magnify Your Holy Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The People:

Amen.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE BISHOP The Bishop and People sit. The House of Overseers will publicly present the Candidate Bishop by saying:

Your Grace, Bishop in the church of God, the people of this Branch of Christ’s Universal Church trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, approve and support the appointment and election of Sonya Michelle Deadrick to the rank and dignity of Bishop. We therefore ask that you lay hands on her and in the power of the Holy Spirit make Sonya a Bishop in the one, Holy, Universal, and Apostolic Church. The Chief Consecrator then directs the testimonials to be read.

THE CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION THE CONSENT OF THE COLLEGE OF BISHOPS THE BISHOP’S VOW The Chief Consecrator then requires that the Candidate Bishop declare her promise:

“In the name of Jesus Christ, who is God Almighty, I, Sonya Michelle Deadrick, chosen Bishop of Christ’s Holy Church, solemnly declare that I believe the scriptures of both the Old and New Testament to be the word of God, and to contain all things necessary to salvation; and that I do solemnly engage to conform to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of the Church of the Lord Jesus.” The Bishop signs the above Declaration in the sight of all present. The witnesses also affix their signatures. The Chief Consecrator says the following and asks the responses of the people:

Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus, you have heard the testimony given that Sonya has been duly appointed and elected to be Bishop in the Church of Christ to serve this Church. You have been assured of her suitability and that the Church has approved her for this sacred responsibility. Nevertheless, if any of you know any reason why we should not proceed, let it be made known. If no objection is made, the Chief Consecrator continues:

The Chief Consecrator:

Is it your will that we consecrate Sonya a Bishop?

The People:

This is our will.

The Chief Consecrator:

Will you uphold her in the Bishopric?

The People:

Yes, we will, by the power of God.

The Chief Consecrator:

The Scriptures tell us that our Savior Christ spent the whole night in prayer before He chose and sent forth His twelve apostles. Likewise, the apostles prayed before they appointed Matthias. Let us, therefore, follow their example and offer our prayers to Almighty God before we ordain Sonya for the work to which we trust the Holy Ghost has called her.

THE CHORAL RESPONSE: “I Am Thine Oh Lord” I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, and it told Thy love to me; But I long to rise in the arms of faith, and be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, To the cross where Thou hast died; Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, To Thy precious, bleeding side. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord, By the pow’r of grace divine; Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, And my will be lost in Thine. O the pure delight of a single hour That before Thy throne I spend, When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend! There are depths of love that I yet may know Till I cross that narrow sea; There are heights of joy that I yet may reach Till I rest in peace with Thee.

THE GRADUAL “Lift Him Up” How to reach the masses, men of ev'ry birth, For an answer Jesus gave the key: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, Will draw all men unto me.”

Lift him up, lift him up, Still he speaks from eternity: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, Will draw all men unto me.” Oh! the world is hungry for the Living Bread, Lift the Savior up for them to see; Trust him, and do not doubt the words that he said, “I’ll draw all men unto me.” Don’t exalt the preacher, don’t exalt the pew, Preach the Gospel simple, full and free; Prove him and you will find that promise is true, “I’ll draw all men unto me.” Lift him up by living as a Christian ought, Let the world in you the Savior see; Then men will gladly follow him who once taught, “I’ll draw all men unto me.” Lesson from the Gospels

THE EXAMINATION The Bishop-Elect stands facing the Consecrators, the Chief Consecrator addresses the Bishop-Elect saying:

My sister Sonya, you have been chosen by your brothers and sisters and the people have affirmed their trust in you by acclaiming your appointment and election. A bishop in God’s Holy Church is called to be one with the apostles in proclaiming Christ’s resurrection and interpreting the Gospel, and to testify to Christ’s sovereignty as Lord and King of Kings. You are called to guard the faith, unity and discipline of the Church; to celebrate and to provide for the administration of the sacraments of the New Covenant; to assist in ordaining Elders and Deacons and to join in consecrating Bishops; and to be above all things a faithful pastor and wholesome example for the entire flock of Christ. With your fellow Bishops, you will share in the leadership of the church throughout the world. Your heritage is the faith of the Patriarchs, Prophets, Apostles, Martyrs, and those of every generation who looked to God in hope. Your joy will be to follow Him who came, not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. The following are addressed to the Bishop-Elect by the Board of Bishops:

Bishop:

Are you persuaded that you are truly called to this Ministration, according to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the order of the Church?

Answer:

I am so persuaded.

Bishop:

Are you persuaded that the Holy Scriptures contain all Doctrine required as necessary for eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ? And are you determined out of the same Holy Scriptures to instruct the people committed to your charge; and to teach or maintain nothing, as necessary to eternal salvation, but that which you shall be persuaded may be concluded and provided by the same?

Answer:

I am so persuaded, and determined, by God’s grace.

Bishop:

Will you then faithfully exercise yourself in the Holy Scriptures, and call upon God by prayer for the true understanding of the same; so that you may be able by them to teach them and exhort with wholesome Doctrine,

and to withstand and convince the gainsayers? Answer:

I will so do, by the help of God.

Bishop:

Are you ready, with all faithful diligence, to banish and drive away from the Church all erroneous and strange doctrine contrary to the Word of God; and to both privately and openly call upon and encourage others to the same?

Answer:

I will do so, the Lord being my helper.

Bishop:

Will you maintain and set forward, as much as shall lie in you, quietness, love, and peace among all men; and diligently exercise such discipline as by the authority of God’s Word, and by the order of the Church, is committed to you?

Answer:

I will.

Bishop:

Will you share with your fellow Bishops in the government of the whole Church; will you sustain your fellow Presbyters and take counsel with them; will you guide and strengthen the Deacons and all others who minister in the Church?

Answer:

I will, by the grace given me.

Bishop:

Will you be faithful in Ordaining, sending, or laying hands upon those who prove their callings in Christ and qualify according to the standards of Scriptures and the Canons of this Church?

Answer:

I will.

Bishop:

Will you be merciful to all, show compassion to the poor and strangers, and defend those who have no helper?

Answer:

I will, for the sake of Christ Jesus our Lord.

*All Stand. The Chief Consecrator says:

Sonya, through these promises, you have committed yourself to God, and to serve His Church in the office of Bishop. We therefore call upon you, chosen to be a guardian of the Church’s faith, to lead us in confessing that faith. The Bishop-Elect shall face the congregation and lead all in the Nicene Creed.

The Bishop-Elect: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is one true Church, apostolic, and universal, whose holy faith let us now reverently and sincerely declare by use of the Nicene Creed. All: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, one in being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one, holy, universal, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE GLORIA PATRI “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end. Amen.”

THE ACT OF CONSECRATION AND INVESTITURE All shall continue to stand except the Bishop-Elect and the College of Bishops who shall encircle her. The Prayer of Consecration commences according to the Holy Spirit’s leading of Archbishop Albert Norwood Jarman, Sr. As the other Bishops stand back at their places the Chief Consecrator continues the prayer by anointing the head, the ears, the great finger and the great toe.

“Therefore Father, make Sonya a Bishop in your church. Pour out upon her Your Princely Spirit, that You bestowed upon Your Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, with whom He endowed the Apostles, and by whom Your Church is built in every place, to the glory and unceasing praise in Your Name.”

New Day Interfaith Fellowship of Churches & Ministries, Inc. NDIF finds its genesis in the vision and heart of Archbishop Albert N. Jarman, Sr. who is the visionary for this great work. On Saturday, October 6, 2012, Bishop Albert N. Jarman, II was installed as Presiding Bishop of the Judah Covenant Assembly of Protestant Churches. Bishop Eric Garnes of Brooklyn, New York served as the Chief Celebrant along with Bishop Albert Jarman, Sr. and Bishop Anthony C. Hanna officially seating Bishop Jarman II as Primate of JCAPC. On Friday, June 2, 2017, during Holy Convocation the Holy Spirit rested heavy upon Bishop Jarman, II and declared a New Day was approaching that would yield faithful and fruitful laborers who would run and not get weary with the vision placed in him. After spending time in prayer and hearing God’s direction Bishop Jarman, II sought counsel and advice from his Father about renaming Judah Covenant Assembly of Protestant Churches to New Day Interfaith Fellowship of Churches and Ministries. The Holy Spirit had already prepared the hearts and minds of the people to receive this change. On Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the Christian Love Worship Center in Wilmington, Delaware New Day Interfaith Fellowship of Churches and Ministries was launched and Archbishop Jarman, Sr. was named our Apostolic Father Bishop Albert N. Jarman, II became Founder and Presiding Bishop. Since then NDIF has been blessed and challenged to achieve another level of excellence in embracing Pastors and Ministry Leaders of small to large congregations/ministries to create a synergistic flow of partnership for our mandate to walk with those who have the heart for God, but need the encouragement, resources, and fellowship to contend with 21st century ministry. We are an eclectic gathering of believers who embrace and enjoy the fellowship of those who may have different approaches to their worship experience and liturgy. Our congregations are Protestant, Apostolic, and Sabbath who believe in Jesus Christ as the true and loving son of God who was sent to execute the redemptive work of Calvary for all humanity. We invite you to be a part of this growing work as we embrace this New Day of challenges for ministry and this New Day for those in the body of Christ and every seeking soul we can affect. Stay tuned for exciting events with NDIF! January 6, 2024 – Prayer Conclave; April 4-6. 2023 – Spring Worker’s Meeting; August 1-3, 2024 – Holy Convocation. Follow us on Facebook for updates.
