August was an exciting month for High Tech High International Key Club. We teamed up with our friends at High Tech High Key Club to create a service week for both of clubs to participate in. We decided to add something that gives our event an extra punch: a spirit service week! Every day had its own spirit theme and service event for our club members to participate in. We hosted our service week over Zoom, having any members who would like to participate join the call in their spirit week gear. Everyone had a blast. We even played music on the call that went with our spirit themes. All in all, it was a very great experience, not only teaming up with High Tech High Key Club but also getting to know our club members and officers. The teamwork really made our clubs feel just that much closer. And on top of that, we were able to host a fun service week for both of our clubs. I am happy to report a Key Club service week well done! - Malia Oto

High Tech High Key Club wanted to create a Service Week during these uncertain times to give back to our beautiful community. We collaborated with High Tech High International to meet other Key Club members so we could work on our service projects together. Our Service Week involved writing letters to our mailman, creating birthday cards for the organization The Birthday Party Project, coloring for the organization Color-A-Smile, and using the Free Rice app to donate to the World Food Programme. Each day, we hosted daily Zoom calls to work on our projects — each day had a specific attire to dress up for, with different discussion questions and lots of good music. We are so happy with everyone’s participation! - Melody Romero

Beginning in August, Serra Key Club announced their first ever month-long service bingo. The bingo served as a way for members to gain hours on their own time all while helping their community. The activities ranged anywhere from fun trivia questions to more creative tasks like painting motivational rocks and positive chalk messages. By the end of the month, our members had finished nearly all the tasks listed, with Mcknz Trampe being the bingo’s largest contributor. With its huge success, we’d love to further expand and create more service projects like this one. Hopefully, next summer will be just as successful! - Tiara Ryan

As a way to keep active and continue to give back to the community, Scripps Ranch Key Club brainstormed the idea of a community clean up. By doing so, we were able to encourage Key Clubbers to go outside for some fresh air, while at the same time, maintain the cleanliness in our neighborhoods. Although this event may not seem like a big deal, these simple acts are a way of giving back to the community. Covid-19 has put restrictions on most activities, but it has not stopped Key Club from finding alternative ways to help out our community and those in need. - Katie Tran 18
