Loughlin, Giannulli plead ‘not guilty’ in college admissions scandal April 18, 2019 By Olivia Maranan Actress Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, have plead not guilty after being charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering. The couple “claims they were under the impression they might be breaking rules, but not laws. They feel they were manipulated by those involved and are planning that as part of their defense,” a source tells Fox News. They claim to have thought that the money would be used as a donation to benefit the school. Lori says that “she has watched as the other families cut deals but her husband feels they are not guilty and should plead not guilty.” NNTimes wants to know what do you think? Was she manipulated? Body of the woman “infatuated” with the Columbine shooting was found April 18, 2019 By Rebecca Mathew
The body of Sol Pais, the woman who said she was infatuated with the Columbine shooting, has been found by authorities. They found her body at the base of Mount Evans in Colorado, and was ruled an apparent suicide. April 20, 2019 observes the 20th anniversary of the tragic Columbine shooting. Sol Pais, an 18 year old woman from Florida and traveled from Florida to Denver and purchased a shotgun and ammunition. “It’s crazy to think that someone would even think of this on a day so many people are mourning,” said senior Jeswin David. Pais did not make any threats towards any specific schools but many schools in the Denver area were closed because of these threats. “We are disturbed about the events that have transpired and saddened by the heartbreaking outcome,” said the Colorado school system. Schools will reopen because there is no more apparent threats.

North reacts to Notre Dame up in flames April 18, 2019 By Emiko Van Horn On Monday evening, April 15, a major fire broke out at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris collapsing the nation’s symbol, the spire at the top of the building. The fire was not completely extinguished until the next morning Tuesday. The structure was undergoing renovations and investigators suggest that the fire accidentally started because of construction remains. It is important to know that investigators also believe terrorism and arson is not connected to the cause of the fire and there were no deaths and only one fire fighter injured. France’s president promises to rebuild the landmark and nearly $800 million has already been pledged by some of France’s wealthiest families to help repair.

U.S. Robotics Teacher of the Year awarded to Barton April 18, 2019 By Olivia Maranan This month, Niles North’s VEX Robotics coach Robb Barton beat out robotics teachers from all across the country, winning Robotics Teacher of the Year. This award comes from The CREATE Foundation, which hosts one of the largest robotics tournaments in the world with 235 high school teams from the United States, Canada, and China competing. The Teacher of the Year Award is presented to a teacher who shows true leadership and dedication to students in robotics. The winner of this award continually exceeds expectations to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for all students. Barton was nominated by his students because of his leadership and dedication. “He is a perfect fit for this award because engineering and robotics are such passions of his and he has put so much time and effort into making the robotics club/team so successful,” says senior Nora Litt. “He is always willing to help any and everyone.”

Student Activities hosts Senior Grad Night
Seniors Havana fun night!
April 18, 2019 By Eli Frohmann-Matthews This is the first time in Viking history, the senior class is having a school led grad night. “Student Activities is holding grad night at Six Flags Great America,” said Student Activities director Caroline Benjamin. The entire park will be shut down just for this event. On May 18, Niles North seniors, along with other high school seniors, are invited to a thrilling night at Six Flags. The bus will be leaving North at 9:30 p.m. to be at the park when it opens at 10 p.m. The event will end at 4 a.m. and the bus will return to North by 4:30 a.m. Permission slips can be found in the Student Activities office. If you plan on attending, keep an eye out for an email from Mrs. Benjamin. The total cost of admission will be $56.
April 18, 2019 By June Bering On May 11, Niles North juniors and seniors are invited to come to Havana Night prom at the Loews Chicago O’Hare hotel. There will be an optional coach bus transportation at 5:30pm from Niles North to Loews Chicago O’Hare and return to Niles North at 11 p.m. For those who are transporting there themselves, valet will cost $15 and self parking will cost $5. Doors will open at 6pm and check in will start at 6:15pm. All attendees must arrive by 7:30 p.m. or they will not be admitted. Prom will end at 11pm. Prom tickets are on sale and online payment will close Friday, April 19. Concession stands will be open during lunch periods to purchase a ticket, payments from the concessions stands are only by cash or check, last day to purchase will be April 19. Star Wars C elebration announces The Rise of Skywalker April 18, 2019 By Tom Henry
The 2019 Star Wars Celebration convention blasted off from April 12 through April 15 at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago. On Friday, fans were excited to see a panel hosted by Stephen Colbert and featured director JJ Abrams, along with the cast from Episode 9. The hour long panel discussed filming for the final instalment to the third Star Wars trilogy. After introductions to new characters, and reintroductions to familiar characters, Abrams asked the crowd if they wanted to see a teaser trailer. The trailer has since been posted to YouTube with 24 million views and counting.

Billie Eilish is quickly rising to fame April 18, 2019 By Anya Taliaferro Seventeen-year-old Billie Eilish is on the verge of pop superstardom and has gained billions of streams in a short amount of time. In 2016, “Ocean Eyes” was a game-changer for Eilish and her brother, Finneas' careers. The duo created the hit together and later posted the track to SoundCloud, already creating a widespread of fans. Since then, Eilish has collaborated with artists like Khalid, Vince Staples, and performed on ELLEN. Earlier this year she also dropped her latest album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? Aside from her music, Eilish lives with Tourettes Syndrome, which she announced to the public on her Instagram story after video compilations of her facial tics popped up on YouTube. “The internet hasn’t really seen the bad ones, because I’m really good at suppressing them,” Eilish said. “The thing is, the longer you suppress them, the worse they get afterwards.” Her upcoming performances include, a concert in Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom on June 9, and Milwaukee's Summerfest on July 6. With nearly a year and a half wait for a new season, Game of Thrones finale season 8 premiered on April 14. As season 7 ended, fans had many questions about what would happen next. For instance, Will Jon Snow ever know what is true identity is? What will come to be with the evil twisted Lannister twins? The major question that is on all GOT fans minds is will the rightful heir to the Iron Throne take their spot at the throne? GOT is based on George R. R. Martin’s best selling book series A song of Ice and Fire. It’s one of HBO hit fantasy drama television series which is based in the medieval times. Season 8 will reveal all untold stories and new enemies. Viewers will be able to watch all past 7 seasons for free with an HBO subscription. New episodes are released every Sunday at 9:00 p.m.

Warriors become first playoff team to blow a 31 point lead April 18, 2019 By Abdullah Fouad After a high possibility of the Golden State Warriors knocking the LA Clippers out of the playoffs in just four games, they blow a 31 point lead in the second game of the series to lose to the LA Clippers by 4 points. The final score was 135 Clippers to 131 Warriors. The Warriors have now become the only team in NBA history to blow a 31 point lead in an NBA playoff game, and blow a 3-1 lead in the NBA finals. Even after the loss on April 15 many fans such as senior Jarod Bumactao believe, “that win was just luck. Vikings Track & Field finish 5th at the Dan Horyn Invite April 18, 2019 By Abdullah Fouad On April 17 the boys track and field team hosted the Dan Horyn Invite, their first home meet of this season. During the meet the Vikings finished fifth place out of 12 schools. Senior Jay Patel said, “I think there were some things we could’ve done better but overall I’m pretty happy with how we performed. The wind yesterday was hard to run through and I know it held some people back but I fought through it and finished strong.” Patel hopes to get good workouts in to finish the season strong and make it to state. The track and field team will be having their next meet at Prospect on April 26.
