VanRoeyen receives Teacher of the Year award By Anya Taliaferro May 16, 2019 This month, math teacherMrs. VanRoeyen was recognized as the 2018- 2019 teacher of the year. Within the school, she has been instructing various math classes for 21 years and strongly believes in her students success. “I’m happy she got awarded teacher of the year because she really gets to know her students and goes above and beyond for them,” senior Coby Madenberg said. Although her role is teaching, she feels that she gains knowledge from her own students.
“I believe that I learn as much from my students as they learn from me,” said Mrs. VanRoeyen. “I am impacted by my students on a daily basis.” In 1983, she graduated from Niles North which makes being a teacher at the school “a special feeling to work at,” said Mrs. VanRoeyen.
Duesenberg wins support staff of the year By June Bering May 16, 2019 This year, technology applications trainer Judy Duesenberg won support staff of 2018-2019. Duesenberg has been working at Niles North for 25 years and she first started working at the library until a position came up at the professional development center, where faculty and staff go to Duesenberg for help with all their questions about computers and technology. She will be retiring this December of 2019. “Everytime I have a question about any sort of technology Duesenberg is one of the first people that I go to for help,” said math teacher Gary Chu. “She always has an answer for me and if she doesn't right away she will always get back to me super quick with an answer. I am so sad that she is leaving but she has done an amazing job at Niles North and I wish nothing but the best for her.” “My time here has been a huge challenge,” said Duesenberg “but its been an amazing experience.”
