Rep. Ilhan Omar faces death threats after Trump’s tweet of 9/11 video April 16, 2019 By Salmana Mahmood Rep. Ilhan Omar says she's faced increased death threats since President Donald Trump spread around a video that claims to show her being dismissive of the 2001 terrorist attacks. "This is endangering lives," she said, "It has to stop." Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, have take steps to ensure the safety of Ilhan Omar and to take down Trump’s video. Soon after Pelosi's statement, the video disappeared as a pinned tweet at the top of Trump's Twitter feed, but it was not deleted.
Niles North T-bay ends today with 49 donations
April 16, 2019 By Andrea Gaoiran Today is the last day to bid on your favorite items donated to the school by students and teachers. Principal Edwards, for example, donated graduation tickets. All donations go to the school chest charity called Curt’s Cafe. This charity helps at risk youth by providing jobs and education. Here is the list of all the available donations offered. Stop outside the cafe today during lunch periods and finish your bidding outside of the main office by 3:45 p.m.

NN committee of justice discusses racism and inequality at equity panel today April 16, 2019 By Jared Acido
The student government has organized an equity panel for all students and faculty to attend to during periods 4-6 for today. All are welcome to join during their free periods and panels consisting of both students and teachers will be present. “Our objective is to have a space for students to initiate conversations about race,” said senior Ella Yoo, an equity panelist. The main focus for the equity panel is to discuss “racial inequity and discrimination” within the education system specifically. The equity panel will be hosted today so make sure to find time to attend if you are interested.
Politicians push to separate Chicago from IL April 16, 2019 By Yousef Dababneh After arguments regarding political influence in Chicago, it may just break off and become its own state. Just this Sunday, April 14th, a group of Republican lawmakers have signed legislation that proposes Chicago does in fact become the 51st U.S. state, but this is more about getting a message across, as opposed to actually separating the big city and the rest of the state. Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer elaborates on this, according to the State Journal-Register, h e explains, "It's more of a frustration of the policies than the true belief that Chicago and Illinois would be better off as separate states, "I don't believe that Chicago and the state of Illinois should be separated. Our relationship is mutually beneficial." This legislation has allowed many people to stop and look towards what is happening, and understand the problems within the political climate in Chicago.

Niles North LGBTQ+ Panel April 15, 2019 By Mahnoor Mudassar
On April 15, the Niles North Gender Sexuality Association hosted the LGBTQ Panel in the commons from periods 1-9. There were 15 panelists, and they talked about the triumphs and the important issues of the LGBTQ community such as the hate crimes or having to feel like they don’t belong just because of who they are.

Nowitzki announces his retirement after 19 years April 16, 2019 By Krisnarong Sakmunwong Fans at every arena took the opportunity to send off one of the most influential players in league history. Many fans were standing ovation and roars of applause each time Nowitzki took the floor. The greatest of all time announced his retirement after the Maverick last home game and went on to play one final game against the Sun before hanging it up for good. Nowitzki had 30 points and 8 rebounds that won the game against the Sun. The Mavericks held a ceremony in Nowitzki’s honor that featured Hall of Famers and NBA legends such as former Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird. Bird took his time to give the legendary German player (Nowitzki) a speech to honor his years in the NBA. During the ceremony Bird couple of word to said about Nowitzki “Dirk it has been an honor watching you over the years and just like Scottie said, you played the game the right way.” Even though Dirk Nowitzki leaving the NBA this season but Dirk has influenced many European player.
Dwyane Wade retires after 16 years
April 16, 2019 By Justin Thomas Dwyane Wade arguably the 3rd best shooting guard of all-time played his final home game on April 9 vs the Philadelphia 76ers where he was introduced onto the court by his son Zaire Wade. Wade put up 30 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists with 4 three pointers made that night in front of all his beloved fans. His final NBA game was played on April 10 vs the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center where he put up 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Wade is a future hall-of-famer and his career accomplishments say it all. Rookie of the Year, 3 time NBA Champion with 1 finals MVP, 3 times all defensive first team, 8 times NBA all first team, and 13 times NBA All-Star. His retirement was so important to many people that in his final NBA game at Barclays center D'angelo Russell a Brooklyn Net guard was interviewed after the game in front of his home crowd and as he was answering the questions he was being asked his own crowd began booing him which lead him to laugh and say “D-Wade, D-wade, this about D-Wade.” Then later on saying “I’m just glad we got to participate in D-Wade's last dance.” Dwyane Wade also helped out the community in many ways as shown in the Budweiser tribute
