DNE’S Message Hey Turtles! I hope your summer was great and you made some new memories with your family and friends! However, it is that dreaded time of the year for most of us where we have to start waking up early every morning and do homework every night. Personally, I am very sad that summer is over and I wish I enjoyed it more but it was memorable. On the bright side, there is still more time to have fun at Key Club events! Recently, the region had Region 13 Beach Clean Up at Santa Monica Beach where everyone had a blast socializing and playing team games. Next on the list, the division will be hosting August DCM at Garvey Ranch Park on August 25th from 12-4pm. Come by and compete with your fellow Key Clubbers to win and become Division 10 South champions!

Bubble Beaming with Love,

Head Fund Feature MICHELLE DANG What’s your favorite part of being a head fundraising coordinator? My favorite part is being able to work with the different local businesses and interacting with the members at events because it helps me become more socializing and less introverted. I also love seeing my team grow from amateurs at fundraising to becoming experienced and able to plan and develop creative fundraising ideas. I love watching my chickens grow!

What has been your favorite Key Club event so far? My favorite Key Club event is Fall Rally 2017 because we won the spirit stick that year and the feeling of rushing adrenaline and excitement was something unforgettable!

What do you like to do outside of Key Club? I love to travel, discover new restaurants, and just exploring in general! I also spend a lot of time doing technical theatre work for my school’s shows and musicals and it is something I really enjoy.

CADDIE YU What’s your favorite part of being a head fundraising coordinator? My favorite part about being head fundraising coordinator would be seeing my fund team develop closer relationships with one another. It’s nice seeing them go from complete strangers to family. My fund team is honestly the best. They’re clowns but they know how to act appropriately when necessary. They’ve become not just a team to me but people I can depend on and turn to when in times of despair.

What has been your favorite Key Club event so far? My favorite Key Club moment would be when my best friend and I went to this small service at a church where they made us wash the dishes and really greasy pans. It was unexpected.

What do you like to do outside of Key Club? Aside from key club, I just spend all my money on unnecessary things, go out with friends, and sleep. I enjoy volunteering at the elderly home. They love visits, going out for some nature, and playing games. They simply enjoy the company. I also like taking my fat dog out for some fresh air.

“So this past month, our club had one service in our community park where members volunteered for the 4th of July parade, running booths, games, and more. We also had our club visitation with Ryan and got a lot of good insight on structuring our club systems and planning things for the year. At OTC, most of our board attended to learn more about serving as officers from the workshops. We ended with a board meeting to discuss registration, our biggest event this time of year, and plan what we can do for member recruitment.” -Rumaisa Islam (GHS President)

Super Smash BrOTC

On July 21, 2019, District 10 South and District 10 North met together at the Lincoln Training Center in South El Monte. Representatives from different schools share what they have done for their school’s Key Club with their respective district. Afterward, the group of Key Clubbers took a tour around the facility to find where the Squirtle, Mario, Pikachu, Kirby, and Yoshi presentations would be held. Each session lasted for about 25 minutes and Key Clubbers were allowed to attend whichever session caught their interest. The presentations taught various skills and covered the duties of being the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, or Tech Editor. After the four sessions, the former District Governors, Michelle Wang (D10S) and Hanna Von (D10N) gave a presentation about member recognition. Then, the current District Governors, Ryan Bautista (D10S) and Kiara Tatsuno (D10N), took over and talked about DCON and Key Leader. The OTC taught Key Clubbers aiming to climb up the ranks valuable skills, essential to succeeding in their dream position. -Anson Yamvinij, Mark Keppel Historian

It’s Recruitment Time!

On August 9th, Gabrielino High School had their freshman registration, thus allowing this to be a great opportunity for Key Club to come and recruit more members for the new term. Officers arrived at 7:30 am to help set up the table, where they used a blue tablecloth to set the scene and set up informative trifolds, brochures, and awards to showcase/give out to any future members. There was free candy and a Key Club banner was proudly hung on the wall for a neat backdrop. Officers informed people about the club and were able to connect with the potential members. As incentives, Gabrielino Key Club offered free t-shirts, candy, and a chance to be entered into a raffle to win a free Six Flags ticket for Fall Rally, Starbucks gift cards, and t-shirts. -Nicole Tanaka, Gabrielino Historian

Familia Unida

On Friday, July 26, 2019, Rosemead Key Club had their monthly volunteering event, Familia Unida, an event where the volunteers help and serve the individuals who have been living with a disability, chronic illness. This event took place at the Rosemead Recreation Center from 5:30-9 PM. The volunteers were split into four different groups: Pantry, Kitchen, Circle, and Wheelchair Wash. Those in Pantry were assigned to pack different vegetables and packaged foods into plastic bags and those in Kitchen were assigned to cut and prepare the food for the disabilities. Some of the volunteers communicated and talked with different disabled individuals in Circle while some of them helped wash the individuals’ wheelchairs in Wheelchair Wash. At 7 PM, the volunteers help serve the food to the members for dinner. Around 8:30 PM, as the event was slowly coming to an end, the volunteers carried the pantry bags to each of the individuals and helped assist them. As the members were leaving, the volunteers tidied up the room and kitchen. Karen Chu, an incoming Senior Key Club member, quoted, “It was fun working with other key clubbers and the members of Familia Unida. I had a fun time being in the kitchen and preparing the food for the members.” -Celine Diep, Rosemead Historian
