HEY MONSTERS! We are now heading in to the month of July and I can't believe we are already half way through our summer break! I started my summer by taking lots of naps and going out of town enjoying the break. So far, we have implemented summer-appointed board members and donated $3500 for PTP from our 24-25 Awake-a-Thon! For the upcoming month, we also have various service events coming up, so make sure to check our linktree! We are also having an interclub with Florin Key Club on July 5th with the theme of Papa’s Slimeria. It will be a very fun event and our first interclub of the year so please make sure to save the date!! I hope everyone is having a safe and fun summer break and can't wait to see y'all at some service events during summer! SEE YOU LATER MONSTERS!

Diana Torres / Juneteenth Family BBQ Movie Night

This event was a movie night for Juneteenth and the movie on the roster was Mufasa. Our first task of the evening was to prepare the produce. We helped rinse the grapes, strawberries, lettuce and tomatoes for the feast. We maintained cleanliness by keeping up with wiping down the counter and washing the area. We helped slice tomatoes and arrange all of the produce into bowls/plates. We helped set up the projector for the movie by transferring the tech from the backyard to the living room. As the movie night started we greeted guests and directed them to the backyard instead of the front door. Then as the night came to an end we packed things up. We folded chairs and took down decorations.

Savina Basquez / St. Hope Juneteenth Block Party

The St. Hope Juneteenth Block Party was a great experience to get more involved outside my community. In Oak Park, there was a block party celebrating Juneteenth with many vendors and educational booths. As volunteers we were asked to work with others including adults and Sacramento High students. We set up chairs and tables for every booth that they hosted at this event. We also put up tents and placed stickers with the name of vendors such as small businesses. The small businesses with art, cosmetics, jewelry, and clothes were all black owned. My favorite part about setting up the event was seeing the outcome because many people showed up to support the event. They had live music and performers at the main stage which I wanted to see. St. Hope gave us free shirts and supplied us with food and water. Overall this was a great experience to help set up an incredible event that had a huge turnout and supported small businesses.

On June 19th, Division Seven South had their monthly DCM. The theme was the Water Olympics because it was a very hot day in the summer. We received free popsicles when the event started and everyone was saying hi to each other. The DCM portion also had the DLT reveal and member recognition. Our very own secretary, Haylie Nguyen, was revealed to be the new DNE. Our club advisor was also recognized and received the Advisor of the Month award. After the DCM portion, we played water games to cool us down. In the first game, we played hot potato with a water balloon. I was the first person to get out and had to pop a water balloon on my head. The next game was passing around water behind our heads to feel up a bucket. And to finish the games we played sharks and menos with water. We also could water bucket the newly elected DLT, and we water bucketed our secretaries five times. It was a really fun experience to get together during the summer and play water games on a hot day.

Savina Basquez / Safetyville Family Night

On June 21st, four executive board members and other members attended the family night at Safetyville. Safteyville hosted a family night with over 500 people in attendance. The purpose of the event was to bring families together and educate their children about safety. They had booths from other companies giving resources and tips to parents. There were booths from the highway patrol, mosquito management, and the dentist. My first station was running a spinning board and handing out prizes. I had to read out safety questions to the kids such as driving a bike on the right side of the road. I also ran the station to get donations from families to name the new fire truck they had. They offered the volunteers free lunch in the afternoon and breakfast in the morning. The event was enjoyable and I even learned more about safety and resources.
