Whether you are alone or in a group in the desert, the natural elements will always take part of each own experience. In order to map these natural elements that were prominent in the site two phases were considered: mapping the musical elements that the vegetation of the site had and the various densities of the predominant natural elements, such as wind, vegetation and sound. The project takes into consideration the following elements to carry out an architecture that reflects the passage of time: The interaction of the wind and light with the variation of densities, the different sound spaces and their decomposition by acoustic density and the transition of planes that will lead to the amplification and/or reduction of these same effects given by the site.

Underrepresented communities suffer from a lack of support for STEM and Art studies. Because of this, students in middle school and high school from these communities are missing on the opportunity to interact with the world and explore the infinite bowl of curiosity that these practices provide. The extension proposal for the Lyle Center provides a program that allows students from underrepresented communities, in both LA County and San Bernardino County, to explore and spark their curios nature for science and art. The program consists of three stages: extracurricular programs, two-week summer camp and all year around science and art events.

The green strategies are used to improve the building performance to reduce energy consumption. According to the psychrometric chart, having good natural ventilation is a great way to cool the space since the Lyle Center is located in a hot climate. As well as the use of outdoor shading devices and vegetation can help improve cooling conditions. Capturing solar energy is also a great benefit from the climate in which the Lyle Center stands. In order to maximize solar energy gain, solar roofs are installed in the lodging. In order to take advange of all the natural elements, each lodging counts with a water catchment system.

Crenshaw Cultural District

Crenshaw, the heartbeat of the African American community, has become a cultural destination within the city of Los Angeles. With its rich historical background, Crenshaw resounds its cultural past with historic landmarks. The master plan creates a place where Crenshaw’s culture can be experienced through the celebration and rejoice of the community’s art and music, with open spaces that give way for local artists to display their work, along with local bars and restaurants that face these open spaces, and residential areas that incorporate the community. The site arose from a quarter note beat division that sets the tone for movement through the project. with gradient bars of density where the closer you get to Crenshaw the denser and active it gets, and the connection of the anchoring points through a path that dances across Crenshaw in order to connect both sides.

With new housing developments emerging in Los Angeles County, Cielo Residentials stands as a response for housing that celebrates communities. The three houses that sit in the site face the central courtyard. Giving opportunity for interaction between neighbors and friends. Cielo Residential bring color into sight in order for the residents to let their imagination run and set their own ways to interact.
