But, TODAY her mommy said that; She was getting ready to take her to a play group.

It was Dee’s Day Care.

She did not know what a play group was.

Were there any other children like her?

Were they nice?

She did not know their names?

She was upset and about to cry.

Just in time her mommy came with her clothes to dress her and get her ready to go out.

“You look very nice “said her mommy, as Wendy was looking in the mirror.

And she had a dog named Rusty.

Ms. Dee’s House was very nice.

There was John and Leo, Erica, Sue and Stephanie.

They all said” Hello Wendy “and Wendy said “hello” too.

Wendy thought this place is not so bad, maybe she would make new friends.

Wendy was holding her mommy’s hand but scared to go into the room.

The lady, who was sitting around the table with the other children and making paper flowers, was Miss Dee. She seemed to be nice, but still , Wendy did not move. She was standing by the door. Ms. Dee came and held Wendy’s hands and introduced her to the other children.

By the time she sat around the table to join them in making paper flowers, her mommy was getting ready to leave. So, she kissed her mommy goodbye.

Ms. Dee was very nice to the children.

She read stories to them.

Erica and Wendy were best friends.

They would always play together.

For John’s Birthday Erica’s mom brought some cupcakes .But Ms. Dee made a chocolate Birthday Cake anyway. It was very delicious.

And they all played.

Wendy loved the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches she made. Sometimes when she felt scared, Ms. Dee hugged Wendy and held her tight. She was getting to love her more and more every day.

It was John’s Birthday tomorrow and Wendy was so excited.

They all sang the “Happy Birthday” song to John and played many games outside. In the garden, the weather was very nice.

So, they all played at the playground some boys were did not swing but they all played.

Whenever Wendy, felt like she could not play the game what other children were playing, Ms. Dee was beside her to show her a new play.

She was just like her mommy. But Ms. Dee was always there for her. Her mommy was not there for her most of the times, because she had to go to work. Wendy missed her mommy all the time. Whenever she wanted to ask her something, she was always busy doing other stuff. Sometimes, she did not even hear her. Ms. Dee read to the children every day.

The children would sit or lay on the floor, after lunch and listened to her read.

She read and told them many stories that would make them dream about those places and be friends with those characters in the books. After reading, it was nap time or quiet time.

Wendy began to like Ms. Dee more and more every day, she would not like to go home when it was time to leave. She knew her mommy would not be there to greet her, she probably still be at work. The idea of waiting for her mommy with the baby sitter was not a happy feeling. Why does not her mom be at home in time for her, when she got back from Ms. Dee’s Day Care? Why did she have to work all the time?

After the snacks, the children played for a while and watched Sesame Street on the TV.

One of those days, spending the whole day at Ms. Dee’s, Wendy decided not to go home that day. She wanted to stay there with Ms. Dee and be with her all the time. She thought she would help her tidy the place, after the other children went home. She would talk with her and be useful and keep her company.

Then, she asked her “Ms. Dee may I call you mommy?”

But, Ms. Dee seemed to look upset. She said “Wendy, you have a wonderful mommy who loves you very much. Why do you want to call me mommy?”

Wendy started to cry. “Because you are always here with me and helping me with everything I do. My mommy is never home. She has to work day and night and I never see her.”

Ms. Dee looked into Wendy’s eyes and held her hands. “That is because she has to buy food and shoes and dresses and books for you so you will grow up to be a smart young girl. That is why she has to work Wendy, to raise you to be a good and healthy child.

If she did not work, she could not do all those things, she wants to do for you. Your mommy loves you very much. I am only here to take care of you, when she goes to work. And I know you love your mommy very much too.”

When the parents came to pick up their children, Wendy was crying.

She did not see her mommy there with the other parents with tears in her eyes. She said “I love her very much, but she does not.”

Her mommy was there at last. She heard everything.

Her eyes were filled with tears too. “But Wendy you are the most precious thing in my life. All this work is for you, so you can have a better future than me.

I love you my little child.”

Now, they had both tears in their eyes. Wendy and her mommy kissed and hugged each other while Ms. Dee was watching. It was a wonderful day that day.

Wendy said “Goodbye Ms .Dee. I will see you tomorrow. I am going to my home now.”
