Andrea Avery Ray, Director
Andrea is an actress, a director, a theatre educator, a mother to four children, married the best man on the planet, a huge fan of The Office, charcuterie boards, seeing live theatre, and getting lost in books. Andrea spent some time in Los Angeles where she worked with top casting executives at Fox, Warner Brothers, Disney, Nickelodeon, and Lifetime. Her most notable screen credits are for her portrayal of Gabriella, one of the stepsisters, in Warner Brother’s A Cinderella Story; and as Linda Patterson, the overly excited trombone player, in Forest Whitaker’s film First Daughter. She has since gone on to teach others in DFW the art of acting for the camera and the skills required for success on the stage. Some of her favorite directing credits include Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play, Descendants, Little Women, Annie, Digging Up Dessa, Cinderella, The Humans, Dark Road, The Women of Lockerbie, The Wizard of Oz, and Beauty & the Beast. Andrea is also an advanced acting instructor for Fort Worth Actors Studio, a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild, a published author, and passionate about her role as an anti-trafficking advocate in the fight against modern day slavery. Andrea would like to thank her husband for his neverending encouragement and support in making this theatre life possible; along with her children who so lovingly put up with her distracted mind and bad singing. She would also like everyone to know that Mrs. Karah Johnston is the real MVP, and the show is so special because of her dedication to excellent execution and heart work! Lastly, Andrea would like to give the biggest air-fives and air-hugs to the entire CYT cast, crew and community for being the threads of joy that she has come to cherish and rely on every week through their authentic faith and welcomed wisdom. Hebrews 4:12

DIRECTING TEAM
Karah Johnston, Choreographer
Karah Johnston began her early days on the stage dancing in the Nutcracker with her mom. She continued her training in the DFW area with Ballet Academy of Texas, Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, and Dallas Ballet Center. She spent her summers at Boston Ballet and Ballet Magnificat. Upon graduation she was excepted into the Ballet Austin and Ballet Magnificat training programs. She chose to pursue her professional career with Ballet Magnificat in Jackson, Mississippi. She proceeded to dance with Ballet Magnificat for six years touring full time nationally and internationally. During that time she performed original works from choreographers, Kathy Thibodeaux, Jiri Voborsky, Tennille Carver, Randall Flinn, Steve Rooks and more. Such works included, Freedom, Basic Instructions, The Night Before Christmas, A Christmas Dream, Scarlet Cord, Ruth, Deliver Us, and many more. During her time at Ballet Magnificat, she met and married her husband, Jeff Johnston. She retired in 2008 and joined the teaching staff at Ballet Magnificat School of the Arts. In 2011, and after the birth of their first child, Jeff and Karah moved back to Karah‘s home state of Texas where they had two more children. In 2013 Karah joined the teaching staff of Ingredients Dance Company and was the Director of Ballet for the Epicenter School of the Arts in its inaugural year. Karah is honored to be choreographing her 2nd CYT production. To the staff, crew, cast, and parents, I’m so proud of everyone’s hard work and commitment to make this show excellent. To God be the Glory!

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
When I was in middle school, I remember watching Hello Dolly! for the first time with Abigail Mattson, who was my best gal pal at the time. We were just two seventh grade girls obsessed with theater and becoming our little world’s next “leading ladies.” Abi made the theatre cool. She was also naturally more talented and a born leader; with people gravitating towards her contagious joy and wit. I realized early on that the best course of action was to “put on her confidence” and hope like the dickens that one day it would be my own. Abi lost her battle with Lymphoma about 10 years ago, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about how much I wish I could have just one more day of benefitting from her unshakable courage and authenticity and to hear her laugh again. I realize now that even at the vulnerable age of 13, Abi knew something that I didn’t: people were the mission, not the spotlight. So much of her heart’s song is woven in the themes of this show, into the tapestries of love and connection and purpose that we have aimed to share with you all during our performances: GOD’S LOVE. I am so grateful to the Father that He brought Abi into my life to give me the courage to participate in the theatre program those many years ago. Moreover, that in His mercy and by His grace I can finally walk in a confidence which now rests in Christ and Christ alone. Abs, this is for you, sister-friend!
“I want you woven into a TAPESTRY of LOVE; in touch with everything there is to know of God.” - Colossians 2:2-4
The Weaving
My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me, I cannot choose the colors He worketh steadily. Ofttimes he weaveth sorrow, And I in foolish pride Forget He sees the upper And I, the underside. Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly Shall God unroll the canvas
NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
And explain the reason why. The dark threads are as needful In the Weaver’s skillful hand As the threads of gold and silver In the pattern he has planned.
—Corrie ten Boom
If you feel like your life looks a lot like the backside of this tapestry, and you have never experienced God’s love, or you’re searching for a plan, then on behalf of the cast, crew, and myself we extend an open invitation to you to come and find any one of us. We’d be so happy to share our “backside stories” and how God is continually turning our chaos into character and our mess into our message. Your story is still being woven, dear one, and you are not alone. To God be the Glory!
