MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Cypress Woods Members, We have had some movement in our staff in the Administration Office over the past few months. We said goodbye to Membership and Communications Director Nicolette Borros, who departed for the Communications Director role at Wyndemere Country Club. Nicolette was a vital part of our team over the past four years, growing the position from just membership to include all communications at the Club. She was one of our kindest and most accommodating employees, and we wish her every success at her new club. In her place we have hired Hollie Tuell, who brings a wealth of communications experience to the club. Hollie has gotten off to a great start and we look forward to implementing her ideas in the coming months. Our Front Desk has been operated by Jada for the past 5 months and she has taken on additional responsibilities including handling all rental applications, ARC applications, and gate access. We are in the process of hiring an additional seasonal Front Desk person to ensure continued great service to our members in the Administration Office throughout the busy season. We are also saying goodbye to Kyle Angel who has served as club Controller for the past four years. Kyle significantly raised the bar in the accounting office by implementing financially sound policies and procedures, adding new technology to improve efficiency, introducing improved budgeting and forecasting strategies, and achieving clean audits in each of his four years. Not just your typical “bean counter” Kyle will be missed for his good humor and fun and supportive leadership style. We wish him the very best in his role as Director of Finance at Colliers Reserve Country Club. We will begin painting the buildings on the Clubhouse campus this month. The work will be completed in stages to avoid interruption to club services. We are still waiting on Collier County to repair the sidewalks on Northbrooke Drive. They have removed the problem trees, grinded areas that were marked for repair, and marked the areas to be removed and replaced with new concrete. I am told they are working to repair as quickly as they can. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, and we look forward to seeing all our members at the club very soon.

MASTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Thank you to everyone who joined us for the November Board Meeting on Monday November 20th. We had a large audience both in person and online to see Sue Vattay from the Communications Committee present the findings of the Communications Survey. You will find the presentation, along with member comments on the club website under Club Documents. We are excited that so many of you took part in the survey, and we want to make it clear that we hear you. Both management and the Board will be taking on the recommendations from the survey over the coming weeks and months. The Finance Committee made a recommendation last month to raise the Resale Transfer Fee from $4000 to match the cost of Annual Dues, which will be $6908 for 2024. It was also recommended that current members get a onetime only 75% reduction if they move within the community. The Board passed the motion 8 - 0 with Linda Kantor not present. This will go in to affect for all contracts signed after January 1st 2024. Any home sale currently under contract will not be charged the increased amount. The Board also voted 8 – 0 to disband the Pickleball Committee. The Rec Committee has several pickleball players currently serving on the committee so the sport is well represented at the committee level. The Board briefly discussed the return of the PGA South Florida High School Invitation for 2024 and are all in support of Chris and Cisco's desire to host this talented group of up and coming golfers at Cypress Woods. It was a pleasure to host the group this year and we look to welcoming them back in 2024. As mentioned at several board and committee meetings over the past few month, we are continuing to evaluate our kitchen efficiency and the growing parking concerns. The Board is by no means stating that a project is imminent, but we trying to ensure we are adequately planning for the ever increasing use of the club facilities. The fact that we are having these parking and kitchen concerns is not necessarily a negative thing, it can also be viewed as a positive, in that the Members are enjoying the club so often that we may be outgrowing some of our current facilities. The Board is planning a Board Workshop on December 5th at 2pm to discuss the kitchen and parking concerns and consider some options before taking any further steps. Members will be welcome to attend the workshop and comments will be welcome at the end.

I would like to extend a big thank you to all of you who participated in or contributed to this year’s Veterans Day event. Through your generosity, we were able to donate $5,000 to our local Veterans, the most we have ever donated! The need for donations is at an all-time high and we couldn’t have done it without all of you! I also want to send a special thank you to Barb and Jerry Kenny for all their help! They have been instrumental over the years to help build this event into what it is! Please remember that the ESA (environmentally sensitive areas) are designated by red stakes with green tops and are a no entry areas. Please remember not to enter these areas. If your ball is outside of the stakes but you must stand in the hazard to hit the ball, you would then get free relief, taking stance plus one club length no closer to the hole. Please refer to our local rules regarding the ESA.

Lastly, on Christmas Eve, we will be holding an open 8:00 shotgun which will be the only play that day. We will also be closed on Christmas Day. Walking will be permitted after the shotgun on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Please remember all play must start off hole #1 and you must take a bottle of sand with you. After you are through, return the bottle of sand to the holders located on holes 1 and 9.

ON THE GREENS GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Cypress Woods Members, Golf Course Maintenance would like to extend a Happy Holidays to all Members and their families. We hope everyone remains safe during this holiday time and we look forward to everyone’s return and the start of our 2024 season. We will be taking advantage of a less crowded course to apply fertilizer on all playing surfaces to help heal any weak areas and strengthen high-traffic areas. Starting after the new year, we will be putting out all new flag sticks, flags, and cups. All stairs have been pressure washed and matting secured in areas it has come loose. We have started to pressure wash bridges and plan to complete them shortly after the new year. We are predicting this season to be one of the busiest we have had in recent years. Because of this, it will be very important to follow all traffic signs and enter/ exit appropriate areas. We have taken preventative measures by placing more traffic stakes on the course to allow areas to heal and help direct play. We ask members to please help maintain the course by being responsible for their ball marks on greens and sanding divots level with the turf. When walking on the green be mindful to pick your feet up. Grass can be un-meaded from the canopy causing raised areas to affect ball roll, especially around the cup.

ON THE GREENS FROM THE CWLNHGA Welcome to December, it’s the holiday season! Welcome back to our 9-hole members and a warm welcome to our new members, our league is up to 77 players, and we know that will continue to grow this season. In November the CW ladies 9-hole league kicked off our season with our first tournament “Ooh La La Welcome Back” on November 7. We had an amazing day of golf, an elegant luncheon and wonderful gifts and prizes. Congrats to all the winners! In December, we are looking forward to our “White Christmas” event and luncheon. Tis the season to be golfing!
FROM THE CWLGA The CWLGA seeks to encourage the social aspects of golf-related activities within our community while fostering respect for players at all levels of the game and building among our membership a greater understanding of and appreciation for the game of golf. Our 2023-24 year highlights these upcoming blockbuster tournaments with great flourish and fanfare: Holiday Tournament (December), Solheim Cup (January), C.A.N. (February), and Member/Guest (March), followed by the club championships in March and April.
ON THE COURTS The SWFL Fall Pickleball League is underway! So far, Cypress Woods teams have taken on Esplanade, Fiddler's Creek, Isle of Collier Preserve and Greyhawk with hard fought battles. Some wins and some losses with more to come over the next few weeks.

Christmas Gifts for Children at the Gargiulo Education Center If you are so inclined, please stop into the Clubhouse Administrative Office to pick up and sign out a Wish List card (or two!) with a child’s name and age on it, and purchase a ($30 to $50) gift on the Wish List they provide. Please wrap the gift and affix the label provided (with the Wish List card) on the gift and return to the Clubhouse Administrative Office by Friday, December 15. It’s as easy as that! The gifts will be delivered to the children at their camp on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the delivery or you would like to visit the children at the Center any other time, please contact Sharon Lapierre at 920-204-4165 or Mary Asta at 212-750-5894.
You may have seen when some of the children have come to visit Cypress Woods for Dining Etiquette Lessons with Director of Food & Beverage Bill Sargent. These low- income, at risk migrant children are students who live in camps behind the Gargiulo Education Center. Their parents are hard-working, low-income tomato and potato pickers that do not speak English. They follow the work; therefore, the children are uprooted all the time. The Gargiulo Education Center is a pro bono agricultural, migrant, and at-risk after school program founded in 2000 under the umbrella of Redlands Christian Migrant Program. In 2014, the Gargiulo Education Center became its own 501c3, and several Cypress Woods members are volunteers and donors. Instead of returning home from school to empty homes, the Gargiulo Education Center provides academic enrichment opportunities in a safe and nurturing environment to low income, disadvantaged, at-risk students from kindergarten to high school (K-12) at no cost to the families.

FINANCIAL FOCUS We hope all our members are having a wonderful season thus far. We know our staff is working hard to make every experience a great one. And that’s the key, great personnel leads to a great member experience. In the Human Resources department, our focus is on recruiting and retaining the best candidates for the job, but in today’s labor market, this is easier said than done. So how does Cypress Woods maintain such incredible staff year round? It all starts at the top. Our management team is one of a kind, and the staff remind us of that every day. Most of the department heads have been with the club longer than five years, some as many as 19. With the club’s mission statement and vision ingrained in the managements approach, our team is able to stay effective and efficient year in and year out. This type of continuity does not stop with management. 38 staff member have been with the club for more than 5 years, 15 employees more than ten years, and we even have 8 people that have been here more than 15 years. While this is certainly indicative of how wonderful our members are, we can also look to the benefits we offer as a contributor to such retention. Full time staff are offered an excellent package, which includes healthcare (with minimal employee premium contributions), dental, vision, and even life insurance. We have also implemented a new social media platform for this season for all staff members. This provides a place for team members to acknowledge each other or give monetary incentives to one another (at no cost to the employee) It is also a great tool for management to praise staff publicly, and hand out larger bonuses when deserved. The employee can then redeem their points for anything from visa gift cards to amazon or restaurant gift certificates. The club’s benefits help to solidify Cypress Woods as one of the best club’s to work for in SW FL. This December I will be resigning my position at Cypress Woods and joining the team at Collier’s Reserve. It has been a wonderful four years here and I will miss this club deeply for all the opportunities and good times it has provided me.

The month of December has some great events to offer including: Member Social on 12/7/23 with entertainment by Omar Baker. The Member Holiday Party which will take place on 12/12/23 and 12/13/23 offering entertainment by Tru Blu, members only to attend one of the two available dates. As tradition, this is a member only event with Chefs complimentary hors’ de oeuvres buffet. Also will be our themed night of the month, Carvers Night, on 12/21/23, as well as a New Year’s Eve Pre-fixed Dinner on 12/31/23 to end the year! Cigar night has begun on our patio Monday evenings only, from 4:30pm- 7:30pm. We offer a full bar selection and don’t forget to bring your own cigars! Would like to thank Mr, Curcio for continuing to entertain us during the Winning Wednesday evenings! We truly appreciate him and his piano playing skills. The club house will be closing early Sunday, December 17th so our staff can enjoy our Holiday Party and also on Saturday, December 24th, Christmas Eve, we will close at 2pm. Brief History of the Pecan
Did you know that the pecan is the only major tree nut indigenous to North America? Peanuts came from South America; almonds from Africa, the Middle East, and India; walnuts came from Asia and cashews are original to Brazil. Like so many all-natural food sources, pecan trees started as a wild species found in the American South, the American southcentral and also throughout Mexico. archeological evidence has it that they were originally cultivated by Native Americans in as early as 1000 BC. Before European settlers started immigrating to North America Native Americans were actively using wild pecans as an important nutritional food source and also as a trade commodity, especially in the fall and winter months. The Native American Word pecan translates from their Language as “requiring a stone to crack.” When European settlers began inhabiting and settling the American south in the 1800’s, and became aware of the pecan, its versatility, and its potential profitability, they began planting and farming orchards throughout the Southwest While the pecan has been cultivated for thousands of years, its popularity did not take off until the mid-1900’s. Georgia, USA is the leading producer of pecans in the world, together Georgian farmers last year produced and exported over a 225 million pounds of pecans to buyers and food manufacturers around the globe. Other countries producing and exporting pecans include Mexico, Australia, China, Brazil, and South Africa.

Georgia Pecan Pralines 24 servings Ingredients 1 cup Granulated sugar 1 cup packed light brown sugar 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream 4 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into cubes 1/8 tsp baking soda 2 1/4 cups pecan halves 1/2 tsp Kosher salt 1 tsp natural vanilla extract 1. Set out parchment paper for making the pralines on and have a tablespoon sized scoop handy ready to go. 2. Add everything but the pecans, salt and vanilla extract to a medium pot and heat over medium heat. Stir regularly until it begins to foam and boil. 3. When it begins to foam and boil, stir constantly until it the mixture reaches 235°F on a digital thermometer 4. Remove from heat and add the pecans, salt, and vanilla extract. 5. Stir vigorously with a rubber spatula for about 3 or 4 minutes, or until the mixture begins to thicken. The longer you stir, the thicker the mixture gets. If it gets too thick it be hard to scoop the pralines 6. Quickly drop heaping tablespoons of the mixture onto parchment paper and allow them to cool and firm. If the mixture is too thin and spreads more than you want, If the mixture starts to cool too much as you’re scooping, place it back on the warm burner and stir lightly. 7. When pralines are cool and firm, store in an airtight container

When a member of Cypress Woods passes away, a notice is added to the TV in the foyer. In order to protect the privacy of our members and their families, The Club only sends a club wide email with an obituary when the family of the deceased requests we do so.
Rental News
The Cypress Woods Golf & Country Club Master Association Clubhouse Administrative Office requires a completed Rental Application (all questions answered, all signatures required), a copy of the Lease Agreement between Owner and Tenant, and a $275.00 Application Fee submitted at least 30 days before lease start date, otherwise a $100.00 rush processing fee must be added to the $275.00 application fee for those turned in less than 30 days before start date. If opting for the Membership Transfer, please provide that form accompanied by a $300.00 Transfer Fee. Checks can be separate or combined and should be made payable to “Cypress Woods.” Please note that the Membership Transfer includes Golf, access to the Fitness Center, Clubhouse Pool & Spa, tennis and pickleball courts and a merchandise discount in the Pro Shop. Additionally, presenting your Member ID Card in The Grille Room &/or Dining Room helps the Owner toward the owner’s $600 annual Food Minimum. It is important to note that seasonal/part-time tenants DO NOT have member account charging privileges-they must use a credit card and pay as they go; however, they must present their membership card when paying so that the owner receives credit for the tenants’ food and soft beverage consumption. When the Owner allows a Membership Transfer, the owner relinquishes their rights to the amenities mentioned above. There is a 30 day / one (1) month minimum for rentals - shorter stays are not allowed. Annual full-time tenant Lease Renewals to the same property require no additional fees, but do require submission of a new Rental Application and updated copy of the Renewal Lease at least 30 days before expiration date. If time lapses, another $275.00 application fee will be required. Please review the House & Ground Rules available on our website or pick up a copy in the Clubhouse Administrative Office. Owners are asked to please keep a copy in their unit for their Tenants. It is important to note that our Bylaws dictate that Tenants are not allowed to have any type of pets. Vehicles require parking stickers or hang tags to avoid being ticketed and/or towed. • Our Covenants require owners to notify the Administrative Office ten (10) days in advance if you are having visitors stay at your place in your absence. • If you are an owner that rents your unit out, please share important email blasts with your tenants. Since these emails come from the Cypress Woods website, which is for owners only, renters do not receive them. The only means of communicating with renters, is via the owner. F I T N E S S & R E C R E AT I O N Bocce News Regular Sunday mixers are in full swing. Additional shade has been added to make the member experience more enjoyable. See the info box for more details. A "How to Bocce" event for anyone wishing to learn how to play bocce is scheduled for January 14th at 3:30. Please check out the info box for additional details. Bocce sets are available for play at any time when there is no Club event. Equipment is available in the chest at the courts and a key to the chest is available for open play at the Pro Shop. Pickleball News Open Play from 8:30- 11:00 AM is up and running. A paddle rack system is being used to facilitate member play. Please take time to read the info box for more details on how to use the paddle racks. A pickleball Welcome Back Fiesta is scheduled for January 27th and all members are welcome. Open play pickleball along with a taco bar are planned. See the flyer for all the details.

The SWFL fall pickleball league is underway!! So far Cypress Woods' teams have had hard fought battles with Esplanade, Fiddler's Creek, The Isles of Collier Preserve, and Greyhawk. CW has garnered both wins and losses. Play continues through December 16th.
Bocce Ball
Beginner pickleball lessons are available at the courts M, T, Th, and Friday. See info box for details. Cypress Woods has also launched a new apparel website. Visit https://cypresswoodsgolf.teecommerce.shop/ For anyone interested in playing pickleball who does not have equipment, paddles and balls are available at the Pro Shop. Anyone wishing to access the pickleball chest at the courts can reach out to the Pro Shop for the combination to the lock. Court Reservations can be made no more than one week in advance using the CWG&CC mobile app. Please limit reservations to one court, per household, per day.
