MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Cypress Woods Members, Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to review the Amenities Master Plan over the past few weeks. All information necessary to make an informed vote is available on the club website and brochures are also available in the Administration Office. The Master Board will have board meetings on February 20th and March 20th and all homeowners are invited to attend those meetings and ask questions or make comments on the project. You are also invited to Coffee with the Committee for smaller gatherings of Members to discuss the project and provide feedback to the Board and Strategic Planning Committee. These meetings take place on Wednesdays at 3pm, and Thursdays and Fridays at 11am. Members are also welcome to attend online by requesting to do when you make your reservation. Please email Frontdesk@ cypresswoodsgolf.com to reserve your spot. There are six positions open on the Master Board this year. To qualify, each candidate must be a member or spouse of a member. Each director representing a voting group must be an owner or spouse of an owner in the neighborhood comprising that voting group. Membership must be in good standing. Candidates must submit an Expression of Intent to be a Candidate Form, which are available on the website or in the Administration Office, along with a brief resume or bio to be copied and distributed by the Club with the notice of our Annual Meeting. All paperwork must be submitted to the Administration Office by February 10th. Dear Members, Season has officially kicked off and is in full swing! With that, I want to thank everyone for being aware of pace of play. The pace of play at the club has been excellent and we want this to continue, I am asking everyone to be please ready to be sent over to the first tee at least 10 minutes before your starting time. I also want to give a thank you to our Rangers and Starters as they have a very difficult task in trying to keep the pace of play for up to 250 plus players a day. I ask that you please comply with any requests that they may have regarding pace of play even if that means moving up or skipping an entire hole. Please remember, if you happen to be the lead group out at 7:48 off either side, know the last tee time of the crossover is 9:32 so if you happen to play fast you will have to wait for the last groups to tee off. Pace yourself so you turn right behind that last group. Finally, I would like to remind you that there are no carts allowed in the parking lot. When you are finished with your round, please return the carts to the cart barn. Sincerely,

Cypress Woods Membership, Once again, the Golf Course Maintenance department has been busy this winter getting the course ready for another great year of golf. We have been removing many dead trees and cleaning up the wooded areas on the course. We will continue to do this throughout February and hope to have a clear line of sight throughout the course. We will continue our pruning program this month and complete other winter projects. Some of these projects are spraying the course for winter weeds and applying fertilizer to the entire course. We will also be putting out wetting agents on greens to manage the optimum moisture levels. Additionally, we will be working in beds and all other aspects of the course. We will trim all everglade palms throughout the course and bring down the height of the pitch apples along I-75. I look forward to a great year and hope to see you all on the course. Sincerely,

Clubhouse Dress Code Proper attire is to be worn in accordance with the dress code for the particular areas of the Clubhouse. GRILLE ROOM & PATIO LUNCH/DINNER GENTLEMEN: Collared shirts, 1” mock collared golf shirts, slacks, Bermuda style shorts, and plain denim are acceptable. Men are required to remove their hats and tuck their golf shirts. Golf shoes are permitted. LADIES: Blouses or shirts, with or without sleeves. Bermuda length shorts, Capri pants, skirts, slacks, dresses, or plain denim. NO denim shorts, cargo shorts/pants exterior pockets on the legs, tank tops, tee shirts, tube tops, frayed or tattered clothing, bathing attire, or athletic wear. DINING ROOM LUNCH Same as Grille Room, but no denim or golf shoes permitted. DINING ROOM DINNER HOURS AND SUNDAYS GENTLEMEN: Slacks and collared shirt appropriate for upscale casual dining are required for evening events. Dress shorts are permitted. DINING CHEF’S CORNER CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP INGREDIENTS • 2 teaspoons butter • 1 cup sliced celery • 1 cup chopped carrot • 1⁄2 cup chopped onion • 1⁄2 teaspoon thyme • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning • 2.5 quarts chicken broth • 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon • 8 ounces egg noodles • 2 cups cooked chicken (3 frozen breasts) • parsley
DIRECTIONS 1.
Melt butter in large pot.
2. Sauté the celery, carrot, and onion for 5 to 10 minutes. 3. Add thyme, poultry seasoning, chicken broth and bouillon. 4. Bring to a boil. 5. Add noodles and chicken and cook on low for 20 minutes. 6. Sprinkle with parsley.
CHEF’S FUN FACT Brief History of Chicken Most chickens in the States today are bred to be similar to the winning bird from "chicken of tomorrow" contests that were held in the mid-1940s. Chickens weren't really a mainstay of Western diets in the way they are today until after the second World War, before then, the birds were mostly used for eggs and chicken meat was a byproduct with little demand in markets throughout the states. After WWII the United States was exporting lots of beef and pork to war ravaged Europe and the “Baby Boom” created a high demand for inexpensive protein, this created an urgency for the poultry industry to develop fast growing and efficient chicken. The USDA ran a "chicken of tomorrow" contest across the US to find the best breed or crossbreed for the job. A man named Charles Vantress from California won the $10,000 Prize contest in 1947. The competition produced a crossbreed that's become the template for chicken farmers today, in an industry that’s worth over 350 billion dollars annually.

FINANCIAL FOCUS FROM THE CONTROLLER What are Reserves? Are they Important? What does fully funded Mean? These are all great questions. We began to receive these questions in late 2021, after the Finance Committee decided that the annual dues billing needed to be itemized in order to provide complete transparency to membership. The annual dues billing now states Maintenance Fees (operating fees), Reserve Fees, and Cable/ Internet Fees separate on the member statements. But what are Reserve Fees? And what are the funds used for? To simplify, reserve funds are a type of savings account set aside to meet future costs. For POA purposes, reserves are used to fund future replacement costs of existing assets and capital expenditures. As an example, the dining room was refurbished in 2020, and paid for with reserve funds. The reserve study indicates that the refurbishment has a life of 8 years. Therefore, each year we allocate 1/8th of the refurbishment cost to the Clubhouse Renovation Reserve Fund, with the idea being that in 8 years, the reserve will have all the necessary funds to complete the next refurbishment. This is an example of being ‘fully funded’, meaning that when an asset comes due for replacement, the funds will be available, and no additional assessments will be necessary. The reserve study was completed by a third-party professional and is updated yearly to reflect changes in asset lives and costs. Thank you,

Pickleball – Inter-Club Pickleball League play is underway. Stop by the courts and see your Teams in action. Men’s double teams play on Tuesdays, women’s double teams play on Wednesdays and mixed doubles teams play on Thursdays. Home matches begin at 11:00 am. The schedule and Match results for Inter-Club play are posted on the courtside bulletin board. Member teams are put together each week by Team Captains from available players 50+ at the 3.0 and 3.5 skill level. Team Captains for 2023 are: Beth Uphoff for Mixed 3.5, Gary Faguy for Men 3.0, Patti Price for the Women’s 3.0, Sandy Coots for Women 3.5 and Patti Price and Monte Mohler for mixed 3.0. Round robin play is scheduled Mon - Fri., 8:30 – 10:30 am and for Wednesday Eve 5:30 – 8:00 pm for all levels of play. Players at all skill levels are invited to play round robin. Match play will be arranged for all levels. The two southwest courts are available for open play Tues, Wed and Thurs 8:30 – 10:30 on a first come first serve basis unless these courts are needed for a round robin group of more than 36 players. Players using these “open” courts are not obligated to participate in round robin play. Instruction for beginner pickleball players is provided at no charge on Mondays beginning at 9 am. If you plan to attend an instruction session, send an email to Barb Wendt <barbjwendt@gmail.com>. Beginners – Many of you who have received beginner instruction have expressed reluctance to participate in regular round robin play. The temporary courts are set up for beginner play. Just show up at the temporary courts for play at the beginner level. Players on these court(s) will receive instruction and coaching by an advanced player. Members are reminded that paddles and balls are available at the courts for play anytime there is no Club event scheduled. A key for the chest containing the equipment is available at the Pro Shop. Bocce – The Sunday Mixer at 4:00 pm is underway. This event is for all levels of play. Show up and play. Toby Johnson or his designee will be host and coordinator. Let Toby know if you would like other events scheduled (maybe a ladder list for challenge play). Bocce sets are available for play at any time when there is no Club event. Equipment is in the chest at the Courts. A key to the chest is available at the Pro Shop. Tennis – There are no scheduled tennis programs or events at this time. Courts are available for open play. Members with interest in any tennis activity (including a ladder list) should send an email to Jim Helle < hellejim@gmail.com>. Members – Guest players must be registered to play tennis or pickleball before playing. To register guests, the sponsor member shall send an email to <accounting@cypresswoodsgolf.com> stating member’s number, the date of play, number of the guests (max is 3) and whether for tennis or pickleball. A guest fee of $5 per guest will be charged to the Member’s account. Members are on an honor system to register guests. Guests must be accompanied by the member at the courts. Proper attire is required on the courts – i.e. shorts/skirts and shirts must be worn. A tennis shoe or court shoe is required. Abide by Court Rules posted at the Courts. Court time can be reserved when there is no Club event scheduled. See the Courtside Bulletin Board for reservation instructions and scheduled events. Pool – Hours are 7 a.m. - Dusk daily. Poolside service is available from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. All purchases must be made with a Club member present. To ensure all users have an enjoyable experience at our pool complex, please note and follow all posted Pool, Club and Spa Rules. Fitness Center – Open 24 hours daily. Members and their guests will enjoy a better organized and more user-friendly layout. When a member of Cypress Woods passes away, a notice is added to the TV in the foyer. In order to protect the privacy of our members and their families, The Club only sends a club wide email with an obituary when the family of the deceased requests we do so.
Rental News
The Cypress Woods Golf & Country Club Master Association Clubhouse Administrative Office requires a completed Rental Application (all questions answered, all signatures required), a copy of the Lease Agreement between Owner and Tenant, and a $275.00 Application Fee submitted at least 30 days before lease start date, otherwise a $100.00 rush processing fee must be added to the $275.00 application fee for those turned in less than 30 days before start date. If opting for the Membership Transfer, please provide that form accompanied by a $300.00 Transfer Fee. Checks can be separate or combined and should be made payable to “Cypress Woods.” Please note that the Membership Transfer includes Golf, access to the Fitness Center, Clubhouse Pool & Spa, tennis and pickleball courts and a merchandise discount in the Pro Shop. Additionally, presenting your Member ID Card in The Grille Room &/or Dining Room helps the Owner toward the owner’s $600 annual Food Minimum. It is important to note that seasonal/part-time tenants DO NOT have member account charging privileges-they must use a credit card and pay as they go; however, they must present their membership card when paying so that the owner receives credit for the tenants’ food and soft beverage consumption. When the Owner allows a Membership Transfer, the owner relinquishes their rights to the amenities mentioned above. There is a 30 day / one (1) month minimum for rentals - shorter stays are not allowed. Annual full-time tenant Lease Renewals to the same property require no additional fees, but do require submission of a new Rental Application and updated copy of the Renewal Lease at least 30 days before expiration date. If time lapses, another $275.00 application fee will be required. Please review the House & Ground Rules available on our website or pick up a copy in the Clubhouse Administrative Office. Owners are asked to please keep a copy in their unit for their Tenants. It is important to note that our Bylaws dictate that Tenants are not allowed to have any type of pets. Vehicles require parking stickers or hang tags to avoid being ticketed and/or towed. If you have any questions, contact us in the Clubhouse Administrative Office at 239-593-3392 or email office@cypresswoodsgolf.com.*If you are posting your rental on VRBO or other rental sites, please clearly state a 30 day minimum rental period and No Pets.
Messages to Members
• Our Covenants require owners to notify the Administrative Office ten (10) days in advance if you are having visitors stay at your place in your absence. • If you are an owner that rents your unit out, please share important email blasts with your tenants. Since these emails come from the Cypress Woods website, which is for owners only, renters do not receive them. The only means of communicating with renters, is via the owner. FEBRUARY 2023 Your source for Cypress Woods Member News, Information & Events “The Source” is published monthly Nov-March; other issues are April/May, June/July/August, and September/October. Thank you to our members who have contributed articles and photos. Space is a commodity and is available for photos of Club members attending Club events, as well as Milestone Events (i.e. 50th Wedding Anniversary, 90th birthday...if you aren’t sure ask us). Submissions are due by the 10th of the month prior to the publication. Please email your items to office@cypresswoodsgolf.com (include names and captions with your photos).
