Dear Club Owners, As another summer winds down, we look forward to another successful season. Over the summer, things have been busy here at CWGCC. Committees have been holding monthly meetings, the clubhouse has been buzzing, and the staff has been busy! Thank you for your participation in our Communications Survey. Your feedback is essential as we work to improve and enhance communication at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club. We received a great response so far, which is a testament to your commitment to making our Club the best it can be. The survey will be open until September 10. If you have yet to receive the survey email or need any assistance, please contact Nicolette at the main office. Once the survey ends, the Board will collect and analyze the data, and then share the results with the owners at a future meeting. The Board will use the data to identify areas where we can improve communication with you. We will be working to implement your suggestions in the coming months. The Finance Committee recommend their final 2024 budget to the Board at a Budget Workshop in September. The Board welcomes all owners to attend the workshop to learn how the Finance Committee created the budget and to ask questions of the Finance Committee. The Board then takes a month to review the budget before approving it at the October Board Meeting, in compliance with our governing documents. Enjoy the last days of summer!

MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Cypress Woods Members, We have remained busy at the Club this summer with both golf and dining revenues exceeding budget. Much of the revenue is due to the five 8:30 shotgun starts per week on the golf course, and also the tremendous support from our year round members in our dining facilities. We have had many positive comments on our staff and facilities from reciprocal golfers visiting our club, and I know our members have certainly enjoyed their time at the many clubs on our reciprocal list this summer. We continue our summer projects with the goal of completing all tasks before the returning stampede of members in early October. We are refreshing the plantings at the front of the clubhouse, repairing root damage in the parking lot, recoating the black top, painting new parking lines, painting the interior of the fitness center, and working our way through an ongoing list of minor repairs throughout the property. The golf course maintenance team will compete the final aerification this month in what has been the hottest summer that I can remember in my 24 years in SW Florida. They certainly have the most difficult job during the summer, but we have managed to retain our fantastic staff and have even added a few great staff members to our maintenance team. This month the Finance Committee will be presenting the budget for 2024 to the Board for their consideration. We will host a budget workshop in the Dining Room on September 14th at 2 p.m. and all members are welcome to attend either online or in person. This is a great opportunity for members to view all the work the Finance Committee have completed over the summer months, and also give members a much better understanding of the budgeting process. ON THE GREENS FROM THE GOLF PRO Dear Members, I hope everyone is having a great summer filled with lots of golf and adventures! It has been great hearing from so many of you about your travels and seeing pictures of the Cypress Woods family around the country. Although Florida has been very hot and humid, we still had a wonderful summer at the Club. The golf course has gone through two maintenance closures and is getting ready to welcome everyone back to the beautiful place we call home. We will be closing for one last round of maintenance September 11th—September 17th. The golf shop will remain open from 7am to 12pm. On September 29th-30th we will be hosting The Southwest Florida High School Regional Invitational. This is considered one of Southwest Florida PGA’s majors for their high school program and we are excited and looking forward to hosting such a wonderful event. The golf course will be closed for these two days but please let us know and we will arrange some reciprocal play for you. Additionally, on September 4th we will be having our annual Labor Day Event filled with great golf and food! Make sure to sign up on Chelsea and join in the fun!! Leagues will be starting up again in October. The cost for the leagues is $60 for the CWLGA and CWMGA and $50 for the CWLNHGA. When you arrive back in town, please bring your check into the Pro Shop, payable to the league of your choice, and we will get it in the right hands! Although the leagues will start before, below you will find the dates for each leagues official opening day: CWMGA - October 18th | CWLGA – October 31st | CWLNHGA – November 7th Reciprocal season will be wrapping up October 31st so make sure to get in those last few courses you want to play! A quick reminder, as we inch closer towards the upcoming season, pace of play becomes even more important. For each round, our pace of play is 4 hrs. and 5 min. and we ask that you please do your best to stay within that parameter. As always, keep up with the group ahead of you and make sure they are in view as this will help you keep pace. If you are the first group out for the day, if you play in less than 1 hr. 45 min., you may catch the last tee time of the morning crossover or our golf course maintenance staff. Thank you for helping us maintain consistent pace throughout the year! Lastly, I have hired one of the missing pieces to our team and would like to welcome Mark Moffatt as our newest Assistant Golf Professional. Mark has spent the last 12 years at Shadow Wood Country Club as their Director of Instruction. Mark has a long tenure and strong roots in Southwest Florida. Mark has also spent time at Audubon Country Club, The Quarry, and Head Golf Professional at The Club at Mediterra. I am super excited to have him join our team and be part of our Cypress Woods family! Please stop in to meet Mark and give him a warm welcome to the club! Sincerely,

Chris Phillips GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Cypress Woods Members, Golf Course Maintenance would like to provide an update on the summer closure goals that have been completed along with a brief overview of where would like to be in the coming months to prepare for our 2023 season opening. Over the years we have used “Command”, a soil amendment. This fine-grade compost material works into the profile and does not sit atop it. This material mends the soil and provides holding sites for water and nutrients, helping weak areas heal faster. We top-dress tees with this material along with fairways and cart-path edges that are prone to thinning. You may notice some dark material in these areas, as well as a very earthy odor. We have completed two closures with our last closure taking place on September 11th-17th. Our recent closure focused on a less aggressive cultural practice approach to healing weak areas. Areas that were vulnerable or damaged from our first closure were repaired with sod. We will continue restoring and laying sod in areas as needed. Palm trees on the road and golf course will begin to be trimmed in mid-August. Early September, palms will be completed, and all grasses will be trimmed in preparation for pine straw on both the golf course and roadway. Roadway hedges have been shortened to a more manageable height and cut-back throughout. We will be pressure-washing the algae from stairs, bridges, and rock beds on the golf course in the upcoming weeks as well. We look forward to the start of another successful season. Please be mindful the beginnings of our fairways tend to stay wet in the summer months and we place entrance stakes ahead to avoid these areas. Thank you so much in advance! Sincerely,

ON THE GREENS FROM THE CWLNHGA The CWLNHGA is looking forward to another great year of golf, fun and making new friends!

Our mission is to provide a safe and fun environment for women golfers who enjoy playing 9 holes, while offering to assist and support each member to attain her golfing goals. We promote camaraderie and friendly, fun competition while learning the rules and etiquette of golf. Our 2023-2024 season booklet is now published. Printed copies will be available in the pro shop after the registration forms are completed and returned. Current members will receive it via email. If you are not a member of the CWLNHGA league and would like to be, feel free to contact the pro shop where you can pick up a membership form. Our first tournament of the upcoming season will be our annual Harry Chapin Charity Tournament and will be held at Cypress Woods on November 21. The flyer will be posted in the women’s locker room and sent via email to our league members. Our chairs for this tournament are Mary Ann Angio and Katie Allison. We are excited about our upcoming season and look forward to welcoming everyone back!

FROM THE CWLGA This 2023 year the CWLGA 18-hole League celebrates its 18th official existence with great pride and joy. In 2005 President Karen Forrest, Vice President Ev Alf, Secretary Sharlene Grass, and Treasurer Elaine Rapoport envisioned the need to officially organize, and they formed the League. Smaller by far back then, today’s membership constitutes over 125 women. Promoting a spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition centered around the game of golf, the CWLGA seeks to encourage the social aspects of golf-related activities within our community while fostering respect for players at all levels of the game and building among our membership a greater understanding of and appreciation for the game of golf. Our 2023-24 year especially highlights these blockbuster tournaments with great flourish and fanfare: Opening Tournament (October), Three Queens and a King (October), Holiday Tournament (December), Solheim Cup (January), C.A.N. (February), and Member/Guest (March), followed by the club championships in March and April. We’ll see you on the links. Let the games begin.

FOOD & BEVERAGE FROM FOOD & BEVERAGE The fun and sun continue into September for us here in Florida! “Winning Wednesdays” will continue through the end of September with Wednesday September 27th being our last Winning Wednesday of the summer. Our Member Social for the month of September will be the last Social held on a Wednesday night. Starting October, the Member Social will return to the first Thursday of the month. This will be reoccurring each month until April 2024. Events to look forward to in September would includeLabor Day Buffet—Available to all members, even if you’re not participating in the tournament! Wednesday Member Social Gina’s Cooking Class—Featuring Italian cuisine. Chef Matthew Wreski is now introducing Tex-Mex Night Buffet! We will begin accepting reservations for Thanksgiving on September 14th (75 days prior to any major event). We will continue to make reservations according to the Member Event Policy, for all “Member Social Events”. Reservations can be made 30 days prior to the date of the event. Please see hours of operation, the members’ social policy, and the September calendar for more information. The calendar can also be found on our Cypress Woods website. Clubhouse Dress Code Proper attire is to be worn in accordance with the dress code for the particular areas of the Clubhouse. GRILLE ROOM & PATIO LUNCH/DINNER GENTLEMEN: Collared shirts, 1” mock collared golf shirts, slacks, Bermuda style shorts, and plain denim are acceptable. Men are required to remove their hats and tuck their golf shirts. Golf shoes are permitted. LADIES: Blouses or shirts, with or without sleeves. Bermuda length shorts, Capri pants, skirts, slacks, dresses, or plain denim. NO denim shorts, cargo shorts/pants exterior pockets on the legs, tank tops, tee shirts, tube tops, frayed or tattered clothing, bathing attire, or athletic wear. DIRECTIONS 1.

Watermelon Gazpacho

Combine all ingredients together in a blender or food processor. puree for 1 minute, or until the soup reaches your desired consistency. Taste and season with extra salt, pepper and/or cumin if needed.

2. Refrigerate in a sealed container for 4 hours, or until completely chilled.

INGREDIENTS • 1.5 pounds cubed fresh watermelon. • 3 large Roma Tomatoes halved and cored. • 1 small (1/2 pound) cucumber peeled and seeded. • 1 medium red bell pepper diced. • ½ small red onion, peeled • 2 small garlic cloves, peeled. • 1/3 cup packed fresh mint leaves. • 3 tablespoons olive oil • 3 tablespoons sherry vinegar • 1 teaspoon salt • ½ teaspoon black pepper • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin • 1 thick slice of white bread, soaked, crusts removed. • optional garnishes homemade croutons, chopped fresh mint, a drizzle of olive oil, and/or any leftover diced watermelon.

3. Serve cold, topped with your desired garnish.

CHEF’S FUN FACT History of Gazpacho

Gazpacho’s origins are vague, even its name. The Hebrew, gazaz, means to “break into little pieces,” so is the Latin word caspa, which likewise means “little pieces.” Roman soldiers used to carry dry bread, garlic, and vinegar with which to prepare meals on the march, and so a tomato-less version may have been the predecessor. Once in Spain, it became a part of southern cuisine, particularly in the Southern Regions of the Country. Using stale bread, garlic, olive oil, Salt, and vinegar, like the Romans. During the 16-17th centuries, red gazpacho was created when Tomatoes were added to the ingredients. This version spread internationally and remains commonly known. There are many modern variations of gazpacho with avocados, cucumbers, parsley, strawberries, watermelon, grapes, meat stock, seafood, and other ingredients instead of tomatoes and bread.

SWFL Women's Summer Tri-Level SWFL 3.0 Men's Spring SWFL 2.5 Women's Spring Pickleball League Results Pickleball League Results Pickleball League Results Women finished 3rd overall The men finished 2nd out of 17 teams Ladies finished 4th out of 10 teams This past spring Cypress Woods members participated in the SWFL pickleball league. The men competed at the 3.0 level and finished 2nd out of seventeen teams, while the CW women competed at the 2.5 level and finished 4th out of ten teams. Inter-club pickleball usually ends in April but our members appreciated and enjoyed competing this spring. As summer approached and members dwindled and it started to heat up, there were a few women who decided to give the summer SWFL pickleball league a try. These women participated in what is called a tri-level league where there were players at the 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 levels. The Cypress Woods ladies finished 3rd. For those CW members who might be interested in competing this fall, please check out the flier in this edition of the Source for information. For those interested in playing pickleball, but who do not have paddles and balls, our Pro Shop has them available. Present your membership card to checkout these items. Those wishing to access the PB chest for additional balls can get the combination to the lock from the Pro Shop. Bocce - Coming in 2023-24: - Additional bocce events including a "how to bocce" event - Improved courts, seating, and shade Bocce sets are available for play at any time when there is no Club event. Equipment is in the chest at the courts and a key to the chest is available for check out at the Pro Shop. Tennis - The west tennis court is available for open play on a first come, first serve basis. Please limit play to 2 hours when others are waiting. Pool - Hours are 7 a.m. to dusk daily. Summer hours for poolside service are 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Fitness Center - Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Court Guest Registration - Member guests must be registered to play tennis or pickleball before playing. To register guests, the sponsor member must email accounting@cypresswoodsgolf.com stating the member’s number, the date of play, the number of guests (max is 3) and whether for tennis or pickleball. A guest fee of $5 per guest will be charged to the member’s account. Members are on an honor system to register guests and guests must be accompanied by the member. Court Reservations - Court time can be reserved when there is no Club event scheduled. See the courtside bulletin board for reservation instructions and scheduled events. An app for reservations will be coming in the fall of 2023. STAFF FEATURE Emery Muller This summer, the Cypress Woods Administrative Office welcomed Communications Coordinator Intern, Emery Muller! Emery is originally from Naples, attending New York University as a current sophomore where she intends on majoring in media, marketing and communications. Emery is also a member of the NYU Varsity Women's Swim team where she swims freestyle and butterfly. Emery has a passion for media development, and spent the summer growing Cypress Woods communications, creating digital e-mail and newsletter templates, and producing video content for both the Cypress Woods social media platforms and website. In her free time, Emery enjoys traveling, going to the beach, exploring Manhattan, and spending time with her family, friends, and cats. We thank Emery for her hard work this Summer and wish her the best of luck for her future!

FINANCIAL FOCUS After the Master Board has reviewed and approved the budget for 2024, Members will begin receiving their annual dues billing. The statement will itemize dues into three categories: Maintenance Fees, Reserve Fees, and Cable/Internet Fees. But what are Reserve Fees? And what are the funds used for? To simplify, reserve funds are a type of savings account set aside to meet future costs. For club purposes, reserves are used to fund future replacement costs of existing assets. As an example, the golf course is regrassed approximately every 15 years and is funded by the replacement reserves. A reserve study is completed by a third-party professional and updated annually by management to reflect changes in asset lives or costs. The reserve study indicates that the golf course turf has a life of 15 years. Therefore, each year we allocate 1/15th of the cost to the Golf Course Reserve Fund, with the idea being that in 15 years the reserve will have all the necessary funds to complete the next renovation. This is an example of being ‘fully funded’, meaning that when an asset comes due for replacement, the funds will be available, and no additional assessments will be necessary. Thank you,

When a member of Cypress Woods passes away, a notice is added to the TV in the foyer. In order to protect the privacy of our members and their families, The Club only sends a club wide email with an obituary when the family of the deceased requests we do so.

Rental News

The Cypress Woods Golf & Country Club Master Association Clubhouse Administrative Office requires a completed Rental Application (all questions answered, all signatures required), a copy of the Lease Agreement between Owner and Tenant, and a $275.00 Application Fee submitted at least 30 days before lease start date, otherwise a $100.00 rush processing fee must be added to the $275.00 application fee for those turned in less than 30 days before start date. If opting for the Membership Transfer, please provide that form accompanied by a $300.00 Transfer Fee. Checks can be separate or combined and should be made payable to “Cypress Woods.” Please note that the Membership Transfer includes Golf, access to the Fitness Center, Clubhouse Pool & Spa, tennis and pickleball courts and a merchandise discount in the Pro Shop. Additionally, presenting your Member ID Card in The Grille Room &/or Dining Room helps the Owner toward the owner’s $600 annual Food Minimum. It is important to note that seasonal/part-time tenants DO NOT have member account charging privileges-they must use a credit card and pay as they go; however, they must present their membership card when paying so that the owner receives credit for the tenants’ food and soft beverage consumption. When the Owner allows a Membership Transfer, the owner relinquishes their rights to the amenities mentioned above. There is a 30 day / one (1) month minimum for rentals - shorter stays are not allowed. Annual full-time tenant Lease Renewals to the same property require no additional fees, but do require submission of a new Rental Application and updated copy of the Renewal Lease at least 30 days before expiration date. If time lapses, another $275.00 application fee will be required. Please review the House & Ground Rules available on our website or pick up a copy in the Clubhouse Administrative Office. Owners are asked to please keep a copy in their unit for their Tenants. It is important to note that our Bylaws dictate that Tenants are not allowed to have any type of pets. Vehicles require parking stickers or hang tags to avoid being ticketed and/ or towed. Thank you to our members who have contributed articles and photos. Space is a commodity and is available for photos of Club members attending Club events, as well as Milestone Events (i.e. 50th Wedding Anniversary, 90th birthday...if you aren’t sure ask us). Submissions are due by the 10th of the month prior to the publication. Please email your items to office@cypresswoodsgolf.com (include names and captions with your photos).
