JANUARY 2024

MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Cypress Woods Members, Happy New year and welcome back to our seasonal members returning to your Southern homes. The golf course is in fantastic condition and we are eternally grateful for the late rainfall this year to hopefully get us through the wear and tear caused by the high number of rounds during the coming months. From golf to dining and from pickleball to bocce ball, we have a jam packed season of activities planned for this season with events that everyone will enjoy. Please see the calendar of events and make sure you make your reservations early to avoid disappointment. 2023 was another great year for giving at Cypress Woods. The Harry Chapin Food Bank received another donation from our members this year, as did the local VA, and the Cancer Alliance of Naples. Just as years past, the Ray Lapierre drive for Christmas gifts for the children of the Gargiulo Education Center was a resounding success. The impact the generous members of Cypress Woods have had on these children will be felt throughout their lifetimes, and is a true reflection of the embracing nature of our club. I’d also like to send a special thank you to Greg and Jane Schott and the Joseph J. Schott Foundation, who continue to support Cypress Woods charity endeavors year after year. There are three seats on the Master Board up for election this year; Voting Group 1 (Cypress Trace Terrace IV & V) which is currently represented by Vice President Beverly Ricketts, Voting Group 3 (Cypress Trace Veranda II, III, and Cypress Gardens III) which is currently represented by Treasurer Diane Tache, and Voting Group 7 (Bradford Lakes) which is currently represented by Barry Stivers. Any member in good standing who owns a unit in one of the voting groups mentioned above who wishes to run for one of the open positions must do so by filling out an expression of intent form and submitting it to the administration office before Friday, February 9th at 4pm. Members from these voting groups will have the opportunity to vote via paper ballot which will be mailed to the address on file, or vote online by filling out the Online Voting Registration Form and submitting it to the Administration Office. If you already signed up for online voting, you do not need to sign up again. Elected Board Members will be announced at the Annual Homeowners Meeting, which will be held in the Clubhouse at 10am on March 25th. Members may attend this meeting in person or online. I look forward to seeing you at the Club soon.

MASTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Fellow Members, 2023 has been an eventful year at Cypress Woods. We added all new grass and plantings to the front of the clubhouse buildings and improved he up-lighting to accentuate the improvements. We also did extensive repairs to the parking caused by the roots of the oak trees, and sealed the blacktop. The Fitness Center interior was painted and the exterior of all Clubhouse campus buildings have been painted. We are looking fresh for the upcoming season! The roller coaster ride that was the Amenities Master Plan was voted down by the membership in March, and the Board have decided not to put a major capital improvement to the membership for a vote at the Annual Meeting in 2024. The Board has continued to discuss facilities improvements and are currently working to prioritize the future needs of the club, including the need for additional parking and an expansion of the kitchen. We are also discussing the potential for updating the Bocceball & Pickleball facilities. We hosted a Board Workshop in December that was well attended both in person and online. We thank those who took the time to attend the workshop and listened to the Board discussions. We hope to host many more workshops in the coming months and invite all members to attend and add their comments to the discussion. The Board voted to approve an increase to the Resale Capital Contribution fee from $4000 to the same rate as the dues going forward. For 2024 that would cost a new owner $6908. The Finance Committee made the recommendation to ensure that new owners would be contributing to the ongoing capital needs of the Club. As part of the recommendation, current owners may now purchase a new home one time within the community and pay just 25% of the dues, which is just $1727 for 2024, a reduction of $2273 of the previous rate. Thank you again to all the Members who participated in the Communications Survey, which was facilitated by the Communications Committee. We have gleaned some useful information from the survey, and both the Board and management are working to implement changes recommended to improve communications at the Club. A copy of the survey presentation is available on the club website under member Central / Club Documents. I look forward to a great 2024 at the best club in Naples!

ON THE GREENS FROM THE GOLF PRO Hello Cypress Woods Members,

January /February Clinic Schedule

Welcome back! We hope you have had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family. It has been very busy as more members returned earlier this year and we are excited to welcome everyone back. There are a lot of great events planned for the season and we all look forward to the fun and comradery this season will bring. To start our season, the club will be hosting its first major tournament of the year with the Mixed Member Guest on February 3rd - 4th. The event kicks off with a cocktail party on the evening of the 3rd . There will be a 1:00 shotgun with dinner and awards to follow on the 4th. Sign up will begin on January 1st in the golf shop; please consider joining us for a great event. Throughout the shoulder season, we have been able to accommodate members who were unable to sign up on time for events and tee times, however, as the club continues to get busier it will be much more difficult to fit in those who forget to sign up. Please keep in mind that if you miss a signup deadline, it is important to understand that this may deter your ability to play, however, we will do our best to get you in. As a reminder, league signups close Friday at 10:00pm for Ladies leagues and Saturday at 10:00pm for Men’s league. Your golf course is a major asset of the Cypress Woods community, please be diligent and make a strong effort to help take care of the golf course. To maintain the great course conditions, it is important to use the 90-degree rule while driving on the fairways. Remember to fill divots made on the tee boxes as well on the fairways. As a final reminder, all par 3’s are cart path only unless you have a handicap flag. With the large amount of play in season, everyone’s efforts go a long way to help maximize the course conditions. Lastly, for those members who have not arrived yet, we have new golf carts with GPS. The new carts have been fabulous, and the GPS has been a great addition! As you play, you will see areas marked off by dotted lines on the GPS display, those lines represent what’s called Geofencing. These are no entry areas and if you do enter, your cart will be shut down and you will be asked to reverse from that area. Also, we will no longer be issuing handicap flags as our GPS system will now allow us to set individual carts as handicap carts. All of this is in effort to help maintain our wonderful facility and help your overall experience as members. My staff and I are looking forward to a great season and we are always available to help with any questions you may have.

ON THE GREENS GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Cypress Woods Members, CYPRESS WOODS PRESENTS I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is looking forward to a Happy New Year in 2024. We are very excited about the upcoming year and can’t wait to provide you with the best playing conditions. February 3rd & 4th, 2024 We have been busy throughout the summer and into the early winter months in preparation. All course plants and grasses have been trimmed SATURDAY 3RD throughout the golf course. Fresh pine straw has been laid down throughout the golf course in all landscape beds and areas around trees. The pine straw makes a great COCKTAIL PARTY 5:30PM-7:30PM contrast to the grass and enhances the aesthetics of the golf course tremendously. Our bridges have all been pressure washed to protect the wood and give a clean SUNDAY 4TH appearance. All bunkers have had sand added and dispersed evenly for optimal 1:00PM SHOTGUN playability. DINNER & AWARDS TO FOLLOW This month is showing signs of El Niño approaching us with cooler night temperatures $115 per player and heavy rains combined with the limited sunshine at the end of December. We are Includes Cocktail party, golf, gratuities, dinner & prizes presented with some unique challenges coming for the future of the course and the Sign up will begin Jan1 in the Proshop We Look forward to having you join us for a great event! greens. We are trying our best with the challenges that Mother Nature throws at us this year, we are fertilizing and putting out wetting agents on our hotspots to reduce the amount of water needed to keep these local areas wet. We are monitoring moisture levels on the putting surfaces to keep the greens hydrated, but not saturated, during these fluctuations of rain, temperature, and daylight. You may notice the green color changes slightly from day to day. When you play golf this time of year, remember the grass is not actively growing. Please help us by taking different routes with your carts and repairing divots and ball marks. Thank You! We look forward to providing excellent playing conditions and meeting and exceeding your expectations. Please be safe and enjoy your 2024 season.

CHEF’S CORNER

Brief history on Goat Cheese

One of my favorite and versatile Cheeses is Goats Cheese, otherwise known as Chèvre. Goats were one of the earliest animals domesticated to suit human needs—more specifically milk production—going back to 8,000 BC, 10,000 years ago. Goat cheese has been made at least as far back as 5,000 BC. Goats produce high-quality, nutrient-rich milk under even the most difficult environments, making them valuable to arid or mountainous areas where cattle and sheep cannot survive. With the Goats’ rugged capabilities, it make sense that the 2 leading producers of goats milk and cheese are Asia and Africa with Europe and the Americas coming in at a distant 3rd and 4th. Virtually every type of cheese that can be made with cow's milk or sheep's milk can also be made from goat's milk. Cheeses such as blue cheese, brie, camembert, cheddar and gouda can all be made from goat's milk. Goat cheeses can be grouped by their age, which corresponds with their texture, with younger cheeses softer and more spreadable, and riper cheeses more crumbly or chalky, with a sharper flavor. Goat Cheese Mishap In 2013 a truck full of caramelized brown goat cheese caught fire in a Norwegian tunnel and raged out of control for five days making it difficult for firefighters to extinguish due to the toxic gases and heat of the fire. When the fire was finally extinguished, they had to shut down the tunnel for months for safety and repairs. The offending cheese was Brunost cheese, a national delicacy that has such a high fat and sugar content that it burns almost like gasoline if it gets hot enough.

Chef Matt Wreski

Goat Cheese Fritters Ingredients 14 oz goat cheese 4 oz cream cheese, softened 16 oz whole milk ricotta cheese 2 Large eggs whisked 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour 3 medium green onions sliced thin ¼ tsp salt ¼ tsp black pepper 1.5 cup fine breadcrumbs 1 quart Canola 1. Place the green onions in a food processor. On Pulse until the onions are more finely chopped. Add the goat cheese, cream cheese, and the ricotta to the food processor, then add eggs and the flour and process the mixture until it is well mixed. Add salt and pepper. 2. Chill the cheese mixture for at least an hour. 3. Once the cheese mixture is cold, shape or scoop the mixture into 1-inch diameter balls. Roll each ball in the breadcrumbs and thoroughly coat. Place the cheese balls back in the fridge until you are ready to fry them. 4. Heat 2 inches of canola oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350° F. Fry the cheese balls, in batches, until they are very golden brown. Carefully remove them from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve cheese fritters warm, with the dipping sauce of your choosing

FINANCIAL FOCUS We hope all our members are having a wonderful season thus far. We know our staff is working hard to make every experience a great one. And that’s the key, great personnel leads to a great member experience. In the Human Resources department, our focus is on recruiting and retaining the best candidates for the job, but in today’s labor market, this is easier said than done. So how does Cypress Woods maintain such incredible staff year round? It all starts at the top. Our management team is one of a kind, and the staff remind us of that every day. Most of the department heads have been with the club longer than five years, some as many as 19. With the club’s mission statement and vision ingrained in the managements approach, our team is able to stay effective and efficient year in and year out. This type of continuity does not stop with management. 38 staff member have been with the club for more than 5 years, 15 employees more than ten years, and we even have 8 people that have been here more than 15 years. While this is certainly indicative of how wonderful our members are, we can also look to the benefits we offer as a contributor to such retention. Full time staff are offered an excellent package, which includes healthcare (with minimal employee premium contributions), dental, vision, and even life insurance. We have also implemented a new social media platform for this season for all staff members. This provides a place for team members to acknowledge each other or give monetary incentives to one another (at no cost to the employee) It is also a great tool for management to praise staff publicly, and hand out larger bonuses when deserved. The employee can then redeem their points for anything from visa gift cards to amazon or restaurant gift certificates. The club’s benefits help to solidify Cypress Woods as one of the best club’s to work for in SW FL.

In Memory

When a member of Cypress Woods passes away, a notice is added to the TV in the foyer. In order to protect the privacy of our members and their families, The Club only sends a club wide email with an obituary when the family of the deceased requests we do so.

Rental News

The Cypress Woods Golf & Country Club Master Association Clubhouse Administrative Office requires a completed Rental Application (all questions answered, all signatures required), a copy of the Lease Agreement between Owner and Tenant, and a $275.00 Application Fee submitted at least 30 days before lease start date, otherwise a $100.00 rush processing fee must be added to the $275.00 application fee for those turned in less than 30 days before start date. If opting for the Membership Transfer, please provide that form accompanied by a $300.00 Transfer Fee. Checks can be separate or combined and should be made payable to “Cypress Woods.” Please note that the Membership Transfer includes Golf, access to the Fitness Center, Clubhouse Pool & Spa, tennis and pickleball courts and a merchandise discount in the Pro Shop. Additionally, presenting your Member ID Card in The Grille Room &/or Dining Room helps the Owner toward the owner’s $600 annual Food Minimum. It is important to note that seasonal/part-time tenants DO NOT have member account charging privileges-they must use a credit card and pay as they go; however, they must present their membership card when paying so that the owner receives credit for the tenants’ food and soft beverage consumption. When the Owner allows a Membership Transfer, the owner relinquishes their rights to the amenities mentioned above. There is a 30 day / one (1) month minimum for rentals - shorter stays are not allowed. Annual full-time tenant Lease Renewals to the same property require no additional fees, but do require submission of a new Rental Application and updated copy of the Renewal Lease at least 30 days before expiration date. If time lapses, another $275.00 application fee will be required. Please review the House & Ground Rules available on our website or pick up a copy in the Clubhouse Administrative Office. Owners are asked to please keep a copy in their unit for their Tenants. It is important to note that our Bylaws dictate that Tenants are not allowed to have any type of pets. Vehicles require parking stickers or hang tags to avoid being ticketed and/or towed. If you have any questions, contact us in the Clubhouse Administrative Office at 239-593-3392 or email office@cypresswoodsgolf.com.*If you are posting your rental on VRBO or other rental sites, please clearly state a 30 day minimum rental period and No Pets. 14

Messages to Members

• Our Covenants require owners to notify the Administrative Office ten (10) days in advance if you are having visitors stay at your place in your absence. • If you are an owner that rents your unit out, please share important email blasts with your tenants. Since these emails come from the Cypress Woods website, which is for owners only, renters do not receive them. The only means of communicating with renters, is via the owner. Thank you for your cooperation!
