MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Cypress Woods Members, We are off to a great start to 2024 in spite of the poor weather. The Club has been busy in all departments, and it is great to see the increased use of Club amenities this time of year. Collier County contractors are almost finished with the extensive repairs along Northbrooke Drive which will make travelling within the community much safer for walkers, cyclists and golf carts. The county employee leading the work has expressed his apologies for not getting to the work sooner but plans to monitor the area more closely in the future. As always, we ask that those of you cycling or in golf carts please notify those who are walking as you approach so as not to startle them. Let's all try and stay safe out there.

MASTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Fellow Members, The Board held a workshop in January to discuss the recommendations from the Communications Committee stemming from the Communications Survey that so many of you participated in last summer. We spent over two hours discussing both operational and strategic implications and divided the work between staff and committees. Thank you to the Members who attended the workshop and added their comments to the discussion. A more detailed document on each of the recommendations may be found on the club website under Club Documents. The Board has reviewed the process by which we appoint committees, and we have enacted a few changes for this year. We are asking anyone who would like to serve on a committee to apply no later than the Annual Meeting, which will take place on March 25th this year. Our plan is to appoint the committees by early April and host an orientation day for all committee members so they may be better prepared for their new appointments. If you wish to serve on a committee, please fill out the Committee Application document, which is available on the club website (MEMBER CENTRAL > COMMITTEES > COMMITTEE SIGN UP FORM) or by requesting one from the administration office. This year, we plan to create a list of Club Members that do not necessarily wish to serve on a committee but who have a skill set that may be valuable to the club on a short term basis. For example, if you have IT skills we would like to know who you are so that we may call on you to assist us which a decision on an IT project, or, if you have financial or legal skills that you are willing to share on a short term basis, we would like to know that you are available to help us. We are continuing to review solutions to the parking and kitchen concerns at the Club. Despite anything you may have heard, there are no plans for a vote on an expansion at this time. We will continue to discuss all options at the Board Workshop and Board Meetings in the coming months, and we invite all Members to attend in person or online. Member comments and suggestions are always welcome at these meetings, so we encourage you to attend. Finally, I was saddened to accept the resignation of our long-term General Manager Sean Hynes last month. Over the past seven years Sean has led the club through good times and bad, including two major hurricanes, Covid-19, and our transition to a private club. Sean is adored by his staff and by the membership, and his loss will be felt as we transition to new club leadership. I’d like to thank Sean for his dedication to Cypress Woods and wish him and his family the very best as he starts a new chapter as GM/COO of Collier's Reserve.

ON THE GREENS FROM THE GOLF PRO Season has officially kicked off and is in full swing! With that, I want to thank everyone for being aware of pace of play. The pace of play at the club has been excellent and we want this to continue, I am asking everyone to please be ready to be sent over to the first tee at least 10 minutes before your starting time. I also want to give a thank you to our Rangers and Starters as they have a very difficult task in trying to keep the pace of play for up to 250 plus players a day. I ask that you comply with any requests that they may have regarding pace of play even if that means moving up or skipping an entire hole. In addition, at the bottom of the GPS screen, it will assist you in letting you know if you are either ahead or behind pace.

Events include: 2/1 - Member’s Social which will feature Omar Baker entertaining members and Chefs creative dinner buffet. 2/3 - Tunes on the Terrace with entertainment by the Rhythm Rascals. 2/17 - Tunes on the Terrace featuring Jerrel on the mic. Bingo will be held in the clubhouse on 2/5 and 2/19. Don’t forget to get your brains pumped and ready for Trivia night on 2/12. Additional events being held on Thursday evenings include Carver’s Night 2/8, Tex Mex Night 2/15, Seafood Buffet Night 2/22, and BBQ & Craft Beer night 2/29! The highlights of February begin with Michael Gutenplan, “Rated the top mentalist in America!” Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see America’s top mind reader. Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance featuring Chef Matt Wreski’s 4 course charming menu! Returning this year, Ladies Fashion Show on Wednesday February 7th. We continue to host Pasta Buffet Night every Sunday in the clubhouse from 5pm- 8pm! When making reservations, please note our standard for A La Carte dining is a maximum of eight people per table. Parties larger than 8 will be placed in 2 tables neighboring each other. This will ensure the staff can best serve your party in a timely manner.
Clubhouse Dress Code Proper attire is to be worn in accordance with the dress code for the particular areas of the Clubhouse. GRILLE ROOM & PATIO LUNCH/DINNER GENTLEMEN: Collared shirts, 1” mock collared golf shirts, slacks, Bermuda style shorts, and plain denim are acceptable. Men are required to remove their hats and tuck their golf shirts. Golf shoes are permitted. LADIES: Blouses or shirts, with or without sleeves. Bermuda length shorts, Capri pants, skirts, slacks, dresses, or plain denim. Tracing the History of Tex-Mex Cuisine
In the early 16th century, Spain invaded the lands of what is now Mexico and Texas, toppling the Aztec Empire. They set up colonies in the area introducing their own economic system, religion, and customs. By the time Mexico became independent of Spain in 1821, the native cuisine had evolved to incorporate ingredients and recipes brought over by the Spanish with those already native to the area. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and became part of the United States in 1845. As such, new ingredients became more readily available from the northern and eastern states. Cheddar cheese, beef, wheat, and cumin were introduced into traditional Mexican recipes by Tejanos (Texans of Mexican descent) cooking in their own homes. This gave rise to wheat tortillas, nachos, chili con carne, burritos, and barbacoa. These new recipes entered restaurants and gained popularity as Mexican food, and then came the “Chili Queens” in San Antonio Plazas. Women selling their chili con carne, now one of Tex-Mex’s signature dishes, alongside bread or tortillas and a glass of water, sold for a dime in those days, drawing crowds of locals and tourists alike. The growing fame of the chili queens helped San Antonio establish its enduring reputation as the capital of Tex-Mex cuisine. The term Tex-Mex wasn’t originally created to describe the cuisine, but was first used as an abbreviated name for the Texas Mexican Railway that began operating in South Texas in 1877. The term was later used by some to describe Tejanos, and later still, the term spread to Tejano cuisine. In 1972, English author Diana Kennedy wrote a Mexican cookbook where she called Texas’ Mexican food unauthentic. She referred to it as TexMex which then actually popularized the term, with those in the Southwest. While she meant it negatively, this categorization gave the cuisine legitimacy in the US. Tex-Mex was now viewed as an American cuisine and a reputation as the ultimate comfort food.

Chili Con Queso Recipe Ingredients 1 Tbsp Canola Oil 1 Tbsp Fresh Chopped Garlic 1 lb. Package Ground Beef 1 ea Medium Onion Peeled and Diced 1 ea Red Pepper Seeds Removed and Diced 1 ea Green Pepper Seeds Removed and Diced 1 ea Jalapeño Seeds Removed and Diced 1 ea Large Tomato Diced and Drained 1 ea 8oz Packages Cheddar-Jack Cheese Grated 1 8oz Package Cream Cheese ¾ cup milk ¾ Heavy Cream 2 Tbsp Corn Starch Salt as needed 1. Blend corn starch with milk, add heavy cream, set aside. 2. Sauté onion, peppers, jalapeno and garlic over high heat with canola oil until lightly browned, set aside. 3. In another pan, brown ground beef crumbling it as you go, until fully cooked, then drain off fat. 4. Add ground beef to the onion/pepper mix and heat on medium high heat. When hot, stir in diced tomatoes. 5. Add the milk mixture, bring to a boil, then add cream cheese and stir until blended and smooth.

F I T N E S S & R E C R E AT I O N Bocce News - On Tuesday evening, January 9th the first ever Cypress Woods Bocce League season ended. “The Can-Am Bullets”, captained by Kim Stone, took our league championship by defeating Bob Dant’s “Screw Balls”. Members of the winning team were Kim and Ann Stone, Toby and Sandy Johnson, Margie and Vince Benefico, Sally Conklin and Jim Rhadigan, and Fran Dunne and Ken Happ. Many new friends were made, with lots of friendly competition, and we were all a little sad to see our first season end. A shout out to Kim Stone, Bob Dant, Gary Buma, and Tim Tache for stepping up and performing captain duties! Bocce’s second season kicked off Tuesday, January 16th. This second season saw a surge in players with 70+ members signing up to compete on 9 teams. Be sure to take time to check out the league by stopping by the courts at 4pm (first round matches) and 6:15pm (second round matches) on Tuesdays. Play will conclude March 5th. Bocce sets are available for play when there is no Cypress Woods event scheduled. The equipment is in the chest at the courts and the code for the lock is available at the Pro Shop or the Administrative Office. Pickleball News - Things are starting to ramp up at the courts with Open Play, Intramurals, Interclub League, and lessons taking up much of the morning and early afternoon court time. Court reservations are highly recommended for those times when you want to ensure you have a court to play on. If you haven’t downloaded the CWG&CC app, please do so. If you need help with the app, please stop into the Administrative Office and one of the lovely ladies can help you out. You will be able to make court reservations and register any guests. Two communication pieces have been added. Members can download the mobile app ‘TeamReach’ from their mobile phone store and join the Cypress Woods PB group within the app by entering the code 6910. Members use the app to find other members to set up games with, share results, announce activities, etc. In addition to the TeamReach app, a Cypress Woods Pickleball Brochure has been put together to provide members with the pickleball information they need. Please stop by the Administrative Office to pick up your copy. Our first ever Intramural League champions were crowned January 3rd when Shelly Knadle’s “Pickle Pals” secured the championship by winning all 6 of their games. Members of the winning team were Shelly Knadle, Pierre Genest, Sandy Coots, Bob Lesage, Claudia Dossman, Gary Faguy, and Lauren Faby. Our second-place team, “Service with a Smile”, was captained by Steve Parenteau. A huge shout out to Roni Zane, Sue Vattay, Steve Parenteau, Kevin Schmitt, and Shelly Knadle for taking on captain duties for each of their teams. The Intramural Pickleball second season kicked off on January 10th. Fifty-seven CW members signed up and are playing on eight teams with games taking place every Wednesday evening at 6pm. Stop by the courts to check out the action. Play concludes on February 21st. Interclub Leagues are in full swing. Over 50 Cypress Woods members are competing on 9 teams in both Estero and SWFL leagues. Check out the courtside bulletin board for all the home game times and dates. For those interested in playing pickleball who do not have equipment, paddles and balls are available at the Pro Shop. Anyone wishing to access the pickleball chest at the courts can reach out to the Pro Shop or the Administrative Office for the combination to the lock.

COMMITTEE CORNER The Golf Committee has been involved with several new adjustments on the golf course including trial plastic liners for the hole cups on 9 and 18 and also changes to the east side of the fairway on hole #3. New changes have come into effect as of January for putting in scores for your handicap, including 9-hole rounds and unfinished rounds of play. The geofencing is now being utilized for the greens areas and parking lot and are continuing to be adjusted as necessary. The Finance Committee indicates that there is a surplus at the end of the budget year. We have a healthy balance sheet. There is over $5.2M in reserves with $2.9M directed to golf. There is $500,000 in the contingency fund. $126,000 has been brought in from outside memberships. The Club has made money on investment income which helps with inflationary costs. The finances are being tightly controlled to do everything possible to avoid an assessment. The Greens and Grounds Committee shares that weather is affecting the golf course this winter. Cart path repairs will be completed in coming months and into the summer, Collier County is on site now repairing the sidewalks on Northbrooke. The drop zone on hole 18 has been moved to the left. The Long-Range Golf Sub Committee is working towards planned refurbishment of the golf course in the next 2 - 4 years. There will be town hall meetings as part of this process. The cost of the project is still to be determined; there is reserve funding in place for this project. The Communication Committee continues to process the results of the survey with the Board and the staff. The data has been shared with other committees such as Strategic Planning, Recreation and Golf. The Board Workshop last week focused on discussion of the recommendations and identified actions that have already been taken, work in progress and planned activity for the future. The Recreation Committee Bulletin Boards for both Pickleball and the Pool have been installed on the east wall of the fitness center. The Committee is working on a 'New' Pickleball Brochure with all the court details and information. The Team Reach App is being used by pickleball players for dayto-day information and game requests, The pickleball community is requesting consideration of a relaxed dress code on Wednesday Nights after intramural games to use the terrace for drinks and dining. The club has purchased a rowing machine for the fitness center and the committee is looking for a provider to conduct AED training. The committee is also discussing the implementation of Pickleball Skill Group Clinics and a redesign of the annual Pickleball Club Championships. The Strategic Planning Committee has worked through a review of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats which was completed back in 2019. The communications committee was at their last meeting to discuss the results of the survey as it relates to future plans and strategic direction. Next steps are to review the key priorities and the action plan completed in 2019. The House Committee is very proud of the comprehensive schedule of events being presented this season. There are 11 social events in January and 15 planned for February. The App is working well with some minor concerns which staff are working to correct. There have been additional discussions on the proposed future kitchen expansion and all members are encouraged to take a tour of the kitchen with Sean. Members can enjoy 7 days/nights a week of dining during this season. All members should try the new Sunday night Pasta Night. All members are welcome to attend any of the Committee Meetings. All committee meetings are noted on the events calendar and agendas are posted on the clubhouse bulletin boards on the west side of the front entrance and the entrance from the golf staging area by the washrooms.

Jackie welcomes everyone into her Book Club in a racially segregated southern town that does not accept anyone different, including divorced women, minorities, gay people or those from the North.

When a member of Cypress Woods passes away, a notice is added to the TV in the foyer. In order to protect the privacy of our members and their families, The Club only sends a club wide email with an obituary when the family of the deceased requests we do so.
Rental News
The Cypress Woods Golf & Country Club Master Association Clubhouse Administrative Office requires a completed Rental Application (all questions answered, all signatures required), a copy of the Lease Agreement between Owner and Tenant, and a $275.00 Application Fee submitted at least 30 days before lease start date, otherwise a $100.00 rush processing fee must be added to the $275.00 application fee for those turned in less than 30 days before start date. If opting for the Membership Transfer, please provide that form accompanied by a $300.00 Transfer Fee. Checks can be separate or combined and should be made payable to “Cypress Woods.” Please note that the Membership Transfer includes Golf, access to the Fitness Center, Clubhouse Pool & Spa, tennis and pickleball courts and a merchandise discount in the Pro Shop. Additionally, presenting your Member ID Card in The Grille Room &/or Dining Room helps the Owner toward the owner’s $600 annual Food Minimum. It is important to note that seasonal/part-time tenants DO NOT have member account charging privileges-they must use a credit card and pay as they go; however, they must present their membership card when paying so that the owner receives credit for the tenants’ food and soft beverage consumption. When the Owner allows a Membership Transfer, the owner relinquishes their rights to the amenities mentioned above. There is a 30 day / one (1) month minimum for rentals - shorter stays are not allowed. Annual full-time tenant Lease Renewals to the same property require no additional fees, but do require submission of a new Rental Application and updated copy of the Renewal Lease at least 30 days before expiration date. If time lapses, another $275.00 application fee will be required. Please review the House & Ground Rules available on our website or pick up a copy in the Clubhouse Administrative Office. Owners are asked to please keep a copy in their unit for their Tenants. It is important to note that our Bylaws dictate that Tenants are not allowed to have any type of pets. Vehicles require parking stickers or hang tags to avoid being ticketed and/or towed. Member Events Policy
• MEMBER EVENT** reservations must be made with member names and numbers for each person no more than 30 days from the event. • Up to TWO guests per household are allowed for each event.* • Reservations cancelled more than 48 hours prior to the event will not be charged the event price. • Reservations cancelled less than 48 hours from the event will be charged full event price if their place cannot be filled from a waiting list. • No-show reservations will be charged full event price. • A calendar of events is available in the Lobby and on the website. • Seats reserved with table assignments made by the Club. MAJOR HOLIDAYS: EASTER, MOTHER’S DAY, AND THANKSGIVING Member reservations for Major Holidays will be accepted 75 days out. * More than 2 guests will be accepted IF the event is not sold out with other Members within 10 days of the event ** A la carte Dinners/Themed Dinners/ Sunday Brunches in our Dining Room are NOT considered “Member Events.” The Social Events Policy was developed and reviewed by the House Committee. Messages to Members
• Our Covenants require owners to notify the Administrative Office ten (10) days in advance if you are having visitors stay at your place in your absence. • If you are an owner that rents your unit out, please share important email blasts with your tenants. Since these emails come from the Cypress Woods website, which is for owners only, renters do not receive them. The only means of communicating with renters, is via the owner. ON THE GREENS GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Cypress Woods Members, Once again, the Golf Course Maintenance department has been busy this winter getting the course ready for another great year of golf. We have been removing many dead trees and cleaning up many of the wooded areas on the course. We will continue this throughout February and hope to have a clear line of sight throughout the course. We will continue our pruning program this month and complete some other winter projects. Some of these are: spraying the course for winter weeds and applying fertilizer to the entire course. We have been spraying fungicides two times per week to combat algae and disease on the greens. Also, we will be working in beds and all other aspects of the course. We will trim all everglade palms throughout the course and bring down the height of the pitch apples along I-75. El Niño has the potential to accentuate turfgrass stress conditions. During these past and upcoming months, we will be facing some harsh conditions that El Niño will be throwing at us. El Niño affects golf courses in several ways. For one, increased rainfall creates wet environments and softer playing conditions. It also increases stress on greens and collars, short roots, and larger ball marks on greens, more “mud balls” in fairways, and tire rutting from mowers and golf carts. So please obey all signs and stay away from all worn down areas as much as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

FINANCIAL FOCUS Seasons Greetings, Members! Our staff is in full gear preparing for yet another successful season here at Cypress Woods. We hope you take full advantage of all the wonderful facilities your Club has to offer. I want to take a moment to discuss and review your most recent statement from November. We had several inquiries regarding our Food and Beverage Minimum and the Annual Billing. Each resident membership has a minimum of $600 annually, before taxes and gratuities. This is to encourage you to not only dine and have a great experience with your family and friends, but also provides the opportunity to interact with other Members in our community – hopefully a stepping stone to building new friendships. Our number one goal here at Cypress Woods is to give you the best possible Membership experience. Now to touch on the Annual Billing. It is broken down into three different line items; Annual Maintenance Fee, Annual Reserve Fee and Cable/Highspeed Internet. The maintenance fee covers all operating expenses that the Club encounters each year. The reserve fee is for the replacement of assets we currently own. Lastly, the cable fee is for cable and internet services that you utilize in your homes annually. In closing, I would like to encourage each and every one of you to sign up for paperless billing via email and ACH automatic payments via your bank accounts. This reduces unnecessary paper mailings and ensures that your statements will be paid without worry of late fees assessed to your account. If you are not currently signed up and wish to do so, please email our Assistant Controller, Kathy Burt, at accounting@cypresswoodsgolf.com.
