Broward County Public Schools Named a Best Communities for Music Education Five Years in a Row
The Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award is a signature program of The NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation that recognizes and celebrates school districts and schools for their support and commitment to music education and efforts to assure access to music for all students as part of a well-rounded education. Since the 2019-2020 school year, Broward County Public Schools has received this recognition for 5 consecutive years.
The All Broward County Honor Music Concert Series
The All Broward County Honor Music Concert Series is a 4-night event. It consists of Concert Bands, Orchestras, Choirs, and Jazz Bands. Broward County student musicians and their clinicians rehearse for several days as an ensemble and then hold their performance here at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts.
This is the final performance in the series for the 20242025 school year. Our other concerts were held here at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts on January 30, February 6 & February 19, 2025.
Thank you for joining us this year as we celebrate our wonderful Broward Musicians. We hope to see you next year for our 2025-2026 series.

We are excited to announce that we will be holding our first annual Elementary Music Showcase Concert on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Charles W. Flanagan High School. Our special guest conductor for our showcase Orff ensemble will be Dr. Sandra Adorno, music professor at Florida International University.

All-State Music Ensembles
Every year, the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) holds the All-State Music Event in Tampa, FL. It is a host to 23 All-State Ensembles featuring Florida's top Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Guitar, Orff, and Popular Music students conducted by world-class conductors and teachers. It is attended by more than 15,000 people, including secondary music directors, elementary music teachers, music supervisors, college students, college music teachers, school administrators, K-12 students performing in the AllState ensembles, students and professional musicians performing with invited performing ensembles, exhibitors, and parents and family members of performing students.
We are proud to recognize and award our Broward Band students who participated in the All-State Band Ensembles. These students will be recognized throughout the concert. Congratulations to these outstanding musicians.

Middle School Honor Jazz Band
Conductor John Normandin
John Normandin is the Music Department Chair and Director of Bands at Palm Beach State College. From 2012-2024 he was an Adjunct Professor of Music at Miami-Dade College North Campus where he directed the Jazz Band and the Low Brass Studio. Leading to that, he was the Band Director at Palm Springs Middle School in Hialeah, Florida for 19 years, where his bands consistently earned Superior ratings at FBA Music Performance Assessments.
Since 2005, Mr. Normandin has continued to serve as an Adjudicator for the Florida Bandmasters Association and has been selected several times as an Honors Band Conductor for Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach School districts. He has also collaborated as a clinician with the 2021 Florida All-State Middle School Jazz Band, currently works as a clinician with middle school and high school band programs across the state and can be seen performing around the South Florida tri-county area in styles including Classical, Jazz, Compa, and Salsa.
Mr. Normandin is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Jazz Performance at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami.

Broward County Public Schools and the Coral Springs Museum of Art are pleased to present the “2025 Superintendent's Advanced Placement Studio Art Exhibition!” The exhibition showcases original artwork of 2024-2025 high school Advanced Placement Studio Art students. The physical exhibition is on view at the Coral Springs Museum from January 16, 2025 to February 15, 2025.

Once in a while an album comes out that reminds us how the tenor saxophone is supposed to sound” – Jazz Times
Jeff Rupert appears on over 75 albums, 11 of those as a leader. Dr. Rupert is a featured soloist on recordings with Mel Tormé, Kevin Mahogany, Ernestine Anderson, Maynard Ferguson, Sam Rivers, Kenny Barron, Veronica Swift, George Garzone, Diane Schuur, and on Benny Carter’s Grammy winning album, Harlem Renaissance. Dr. Rupert has performed at major jazz clubs and concert halls around the world, including the Blue Note, Birdland, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Tokyo Forum, the National concert hall of Taipei, Taiwan, and jazz festivals throughout Europe, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Japan. Dr. Rupert’s album “The Ripple” was the #5 jazz album of the year (2020) and his most recent album “It Gets Better” (2024) with jazz luminaries Kenny Barron, Joe Farnsworth and Peter Washington was in the top ten of the three national jazz charts for 17 weeks. He is Distinguished Professor, Trustee Endowed Chair, and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and founded Flying Horse Records. Dr. Jeff Rupert authors and hosts Jazz and the American Spirit, a nationally syndicated weekly radio show on NPR, examining the connection between jazz and the American experience.
