County Public Schools Named a Best Communities for Music Education Five Years in a Row
The Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award is a signature program of The NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation that recognizes and celebrates school districts and schools for their support and commitment to music education and efforts to assure access to music for all students as part of a well-rounded education. Since the 2019-2020 school year, Broward County Public Schools has received this recognition for 5 consecutive years.
The All Broward County Honor Music Concert Series
The All Broward County Honor Music Concert Series is a 4-night event. It consists of Concert Bands, Orchestras, Choirs, and Jazz Bands. Broward County student musicians and their clinicians rehearse for several days as an ensemble and then hold their performance here at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts.
All performances are free, open to the public, and start at 6:30 or 7:00 PM. The second performance is on February 6, 2025, by the All Broward County Honor Orchestras and the third performance is on February 19, 2025, by the All Broward County Honor Choirs. The final performance in the series for the 20242025 school year be February 26, 2025 featuring the All Broward County Honor Jazz Bands.

We are excited to announce that we will be holding our first annual Elementary Music Showcase Concert on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Charles W. Flanagan High School. Our special guest conductor for our showcase Orff ensemble will be Dr. Sandra Adorno, music professor at Florida International University.

All-State Music Ensembles
Every year, the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) holds the All-State Music Event in Tampa, FL. It is a host to 23 All-State Ensembles featuring Florida's top Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Guitar, Orff, and Popular Music students conducted by world-class conductors and teachers. It is attended by more than 10,000 people, including secondary music directors, elementary music teachers, music supervisors, college students, college music teachers, school administrators, K-12 students performing in the All-State ensembles, students and professional musicians performing with invited performing ensembles, exhibitors, and parents and family members of performing students.
Over 200 student musicians from Broward County participated in the All-State Ensembles. We are proud to recognize and award our Broward band students tonight who participated in the All-State Band Ensembles. These students will be recognized throughout the concert. Congratulations to these outstanding musicians.

All Broward County Middle School Honor Band
Carlos Franco Conductor
Mr. Carlos Franco is a product of Broward County Schools. He is the director of bands at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia. Under his direction, the program has consistently achieved Superior Ratings in all facets of the Georgia Music Educators Association evaluations
The Parkview Wind Ensemble had the distinct honor of being selected to perform in the 2023 Music For All National Concert Band Festival, the 2024 GMEA In-Service Conference, and the 2025 Music For All Regional Concert Festival at Georgia State University. The Parkview Marching Band was featured in the 2025 Rome New Year’s Day Parade on January 1st, 2025. Previously, Mr. Franco was the Director of Bands at Hialeah Gardens Senior High School in Miami, FL. During this appointment, Mr. Franco was responsible for conducting the Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensembles, and The Gladiator Outdoor Performance Ensemble. Mr. Franco coordinated all chamber music ensembles and the winter guard. Under his direction, the program earned consistent Superior ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association district and state levels of evaluations, as well as earning multiple accolades in competitions throughout the state of Florida. The Wind Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble 1 at Hialeah Gardens are nationally-recognized ensembles. The W.O. specifically: performed and premiered works for wind band, earning top awards at Heritage Festivals in Orlando, FL. and Atlanta, GA.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela he began his musical training in the Venezuelan System of Youth Orchestras. He and his parents immigrated to the U.S. in 2003 and he completed his high school education at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, FL. He attended The University of Florida and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2011 with a Bachelors in Music Education. As a performer, Mr. Franco has experienced the full spectrum of a professional musician: performing with The UF Gator Marching Band; The UF Wind Symphony; The UF Symphony Orchestra; The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps (2006-07) and The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (200809). Mr. Franco has also toured the country with the afrolatin-funk fusion group: The Umoja Orchestra and has performed with various jazz and pop musicians such as Michael Dease, Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride, Butch Thomas, Ramiro Malagon, and more.
Mr. Franco is a professional certified educator in Florida and Georgia and holds a Clinical Supervising Educator Certification. Mr. Franco’s professional associations include: Florida Bandmasters Association, National Association for Music Education, Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), and National Band Association (NBA).

2025 Superintendent's Advanced Placement Studio Art Exhibition
Broward County Public Schools and the Coral Springs Museum of Art are pleased to present the “2025 Superintendent's Advanced Placement Studio Art Exhibition!” The exhibition showcases original artwork of 2024-2025 high school Advanced Placement Studio Art students. The physical exhibition is on view at the Coral Springs Museum from January 16, 2025 to February 15, 2025.

Dr. Daniel Tembras 2024-2025 All Broward County High School Honor Band
Conductor
Daniel Tembras serves as the Director of Instrumental Studies at Purdue University Fort Wayne. His duties include conducting the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, teaching courses in conducting and music education, and coordinating the woodwind, brass, and percussion areas. Dr. Tembras holds a DMA degree in Wind Conducting from The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to this, he served as the Assistant to the Director of Bands at The University of Texas at Austin, Director of the Longhorn Jazz Band and Combo, and Assistant Director of the Longhorn Basketball and Volleyball Bands. Dr. Tembras received the Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University.
While in Michigan, Dr. Tembras served as a director in the Mason Public Schools in Mason, Michigan, and in the Kearsley Community Schools in Flint, Michigan. Dr. Tembras is a native of Lansing, Michigan, and received his Bachelor of Music degree from Michigan State University.
A champion of artistic collaboration and new music, Dr. Tembras has premiered and/or collaborated with leading artists including Pulitzer Prize winning composer William Bolcom, Emmywinning Bruce Broughton, David Maslanka, Frank Ticheli, John Mackey, Steven Bryant, Joel Puckett, Omar Thomas, Michael Markowski and soloists Billy Hunter, Principal Trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Gail Williams, Joseph Lulloff, and Kenneth Tse, amongst others.
Dr. Tembras is a frequent guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad, with engagements throughout Europe and the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. He has had the honor of guest conducting the United States Army Field Band and the “President’s Own” Marine Band. Each summer, Dr. Tembras works with The World Youth Wind Orchestra Project (WYWOP) and World Adults Wind Orchestra Project (WAWOP) in Schladming, Austria as part of the Mid-Europe International Festival, ensembles comprised of talented international musicians from Europe, Australia, Japan, and North America Tembras led the Symphonic Wind Ensemble in their debut performance in Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2015 and led the Symphonic Wind Ensemble on two tours of Europe performing in some of the world’s greatest concert halls. University bands under his direction have performed numerous times at the Indiana Music Educators Association conference as well as at the College Band Directors National Association Conference. Dr. Tembras is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, NAfME, a honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu, where he has been voted Indiana Bandmaster of the Year for 2025. He is a frequent guest clinician throughout the United States and Europe.
