ELEMENTARY RECORDER ENSEMBLE ELEMENTARY under the direction of Dr. Kathy Kerstetter
CONDUCTOR BIO
Dr. Kathy Kerstetter currently teaches Pre K - 5 general music at Sheridan Park Elementary in Hollywood, Florida. She has served music education in many areas, including as the President of the South Florida Orff Chapter, President of Broward County Elementary Music Teachers Association, and the FMEA College Educators Chairperson. In 2023, Local Channel 10 (WPLG) selected her for the Tribute to Teachers award for her contributions to her school and the community.
Dr. Kerstetter has been a music educator for 30 years, teaching everything from music for children younger than 4, middle school band and, and college courses for music education. She was the founder of the Creative Music Project, non-profit music camp focusing on musical creativity in the Cayman Islands. In 2014, Teaching Music Magazine featured Dr. Kerstetter's original songwriting activities with elementary school children.
She earned her Master's of Music and Doctorate of Music Education from the University of Miami and is happy to share her love of recorder playing with you all tonight.
ELEMENTARY ORFF ENSEMBLE ELEMENTARY under the direction of Denise Mills CONDUCTOR BIO
Denise Mills is a dynamic and accomplished Music Educator currently celebrating her fifteenth year at Lake Whitney Elementary in Orange County, FL. A proud doublebachelor's recipient in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the University of Central Florida (UCF), she has built a distinguished career dedicated to student performance and music pedagogy.
She currently leads three high-caliber performance ensembles: an 80-student Choir, an Advanced Orff Ensemble, and a Musical Troupe preparing for their upcoming production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. in April.
A recognized leader in music pedagogy, Denise is a member and Past President of the Central Florida Orff Chapter. Her dedication is underscored by her Orff certification, attendance at the prestigious Salzburg Summer Course in 2023, and her recognition as an American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA) Barbara Potter Scholarship recipient in 2020. She regularly shares her expertise, presenting at the local and state level, and had the pleasure of presenting at the National AOSA Conference in Kentucky this November. Furthermore, she has had the distinct honor of conducting All-County Orff and Chorus ensembles throughout Florida.
Outside of the classroom, Denise loves spending time with her husband and her adorable five-year-old daughter. She has an obsession with all things pink and sparkly and is thrilled to get the opportunity to work with and create amazing music with the students of Broward County this year!
