Closing Remarks .....................................................................Thomas J. Schroeder, Principal

The Drug Abuse Resistance Education D.A.R.E program. Its importance lies not only in teaching young people about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and Tobacco, but also in empowering them with the skills to make safe and responsible choices. For students, D.A.R.E. is more than just a classroom lesson—it is a foundation for lifelong decision-making. Beyond information, D.A.R.E. emphasizes practical skills. Students learn how to resist peer pressure, communicate con dently, and handle stressful situations without turning to harmful substances. These lessons are crucial because peer in uence is one of the strongest factors in a young person’s life. By practicing refusal strategies, students gain the con dence to stand rm in their values and protect themselves from negative in uences. One of the most signi cant bene ts of D.A.R.E. is that it provides students with knowledge about the harmful effects of substance abuse. At a young age, many children are curious and impressionable. Without proper guidance, they may fall victim to peer pressure or misinformation. D.A.R.E. equips them with facts about how drugs and alcohol can damage their health, relationships, and future opportunities. This knowledge helps students understand the real consequences of risky behavior. Another reason D.A.R.E. is important is that it fosters positive relationships between students and law enforcement of cers. The program is often taught by police of cers, which helps children see them as approachable mentors rather than distant authority gures. This connection builds trust and encourages students to seek help when they face challenges. Finally, D.A.R.E. promotes overall character development. It encourages responsibility, respect, and good citizenship. These values extend far beyond avoiding drugs—they shape students into thoughtful individuals who contribute positively to their schools and communities. In conclusion, D.A.R.E. is important to students because it provides knowledge, builds con dence, strengthens relationships, and instills values that last a lifetime. By teaching young people how to make safe choices, the program empowers them to lead healthier, more successful lives. For many students, D.A.R.E. is the rst step toward becoming responsible adults who can resist negative in uences and pursue their goals with clarity and determination.

Did you know that D.A.R.E can help you with making good decisions. I am about to tell you some things about it like what I learned during D.A.R.E, how I used D.A.R.E, and how I plan to use D.A.R.E. Now if you DARE then read on. To continue, what I learned in dare. Something I learned is that alcohol is bad for you. One-way alcohol can mess with you, is by affecting your growth. Of cer Tony told our D.A.R.E class that alcohol can affect our growth in the mind and physical. About 10 million underage kids drink alcohol. Wow, that is a lot. There are some symptoms like losing self-control and loss of coronation when you drink alcohol. Another example, Is secondhand smoking and regular smoking. When you smoke, some smoke gets in your lungs and messes them up. In the D.A.R.E book it says that smoking is bad for your health. If there is a person in your house that smokes, you might get some of that smoke and that is secondhand smoke; it is still bad for your health. If you simply stop smoking for a while, your lungs will heal. There are teens all across the world that use cigarettes and vapes. Now I will tell you soon how I used D.A.R.E. Additionally, How I have used D.A.R.E. One wayl have used the dare decision making model, is when I was at the mall and my friends came up and asked me to come and asked me to go with them, I didn't know what to do, stay with my family or go with them. So, I de ned, assessed, responded, and evaluated. I stayed because I didn't know what they were going to do. It was the safer choice. Also, my mom told me to stay away from some of my friends. I still didn't know what to do. So, I listened to my mom after I use the D.A.R.E decision making model. Turns out they were being bad. When I used the D.A.R.E decision making model I always made the right decision. To keep the ball rolling, How I plan to use the model in the future. One way is when I might be getting bullied. In my D.A.R.E book, it tells me that you should tell a trusted adult or tell the bully to stop. would use the 5 w's. The 5 w's are who, what, when, where, and why. Next, I plan to use the D.A.R.E decision making model under peer pressure. Of cer Tony told us that our peers would pressure us in middle school. An example is, say, my friends were telling me to help them cheat on the test. I mean really, pressure. I would tell them no. I would de ne, assess, respond, and nally evaluate. Those were some ways that I plan to use the model in the future. In conclusion, today we talk about what I learned during D.A.R.E, how i have used the D.A.R. E decision making model, and how I plan to use the D.A.R.E decision making model. I
