I

t has been said that, “You cannot get the right results with the wrong people.” The Lord has blessed Cypress Christian School with the “Right People!” Students, parents, faculty and staff help make CCS such a special place.

When a group of people come together for a common purpose under The Lord’s direction, there is no limit to what can happen.

This past year has revealed the true Warrior spirit present among the entire CCS family. It has also been a reminder of what is at stake for our children’s futures in our country and the world. Three ideas have emerged as critical ingredients for success as we daily commit ourselves to the mission of academic excellence and biblical values in preparation to have a cultural impact.

First, culture is king. The culture of our school must be protected, nurtured and guarded at all costs.

In addition to excellent academics, students must be equipped with the right mindset that includes a

biblical worldview and character driven to action with grit and determination.

Second, excellence is more than a goal. The intentional identification of what excellence looks like in the classroom, on the field of competition or on the performance stage must be at the forefront of the minds of the entire CCS family. From this starting point, expectations should be high and require all Warriors to come together to achieve the unimaginable.

Third, the future is up to us. As someone once noted, “The world belongs to the ‘doers.’” Inaction is not an option for a Warrior. Recognition of the responsibility, both personally and collectively, is vital to CCS’s goal to raise the next generation of Warrior leaders. To be successful, it will take everyone dedicated to a common purpose every day, diligently working and confidently rising to the challenge in preparation for the future of our country and our world.

A

t Cypress Christian School, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. Due to COVID-19, protocols including wellness checks, face coverings and physical distancing have all been put in place. Frequent handwashing, contactless hand sanitizer stations and daily campus sanitation are all being practiced to keep our campus healthy for everyone.

In addition to these things, the school has partnered with Dr. Glenn Davis who currently serves as our school Medical Director. Dr. Davis is Medical Officer at Hamilton Health Box, an organization with the expertise to provide COVID-19 testing, monitoring and ongoing healthcare consultation, helping to keep everyone healthy and safe. Dr. Davis and his team work in conjunction with our school nurses, Mrs. Robin Brown and Mrs. Pam Van Rieg to continually mitigate the risk associated with COVID-19.

Danielle Olszeski is a nationally certified Physician Assistant with Hamilton Health Box. She graduated from Midwestern University with a Master of Medical Sciences and has nine years of clinical experience in several specialties, including primary care and gastroenterology. She is from the Midwest, has been married for 10 years and has two young children.

Robin Brown, R.N., School Nurse, Elementary Campus Cypress Christian School has been a part of my family since 2004, when my sons, John and Taylor became students here. The following spring, I discovered, by accident (I believe this accident was orchestrated by the Lord) that the nursing position at Cypress Christian School would soon be available. I applied and was honored to accept the school nurse position in August 2005. I have always felt that my job is a gift from the Lord. I treasure the faculty, staff, students and families of CCS as my extended family.

I attended the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduation, I became an Oncology Certified Nurse and worked at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis prior to moving back to my home state of Texas with my husband Bob. In Houston, I continued in the oncology field at Houston Methodist Hospital. I ultimately transitioned into the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.

A fun fact about my family is our son, John (‘09), a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, TX, was born in the Republic of South Africa, and our son, Taylor (‘11), a U.S. Navy Diver & Petty Officer 2nd class, was born in Saudi Arabia. After they were born, I stayed home with them for several years until we once again relocated to Houston. In 2002, I began working for Klein ISD until 2005, when I found my dream job of caring for the students of Cypress Christian School.

Cypress Christian School holds a special place near and dear to my heart. It has been a part of our family for more than four decades as my parents, Jerry and Edie Van Beek, were on the original planning committee of CCS. My parents, along with other Cypress Bible Church founding members, saw a need for a Christcentered school in the Cypress area. After research, planning and prayer, CCS (then called Cypress Community Christian School) became a reality. My parents continued to support CCS through their time, money and fervent prayer. Their legacy continues through the Spirit of Paul Scholarship at CCS. Our daughters, Jessica Van Rieg Gates (’06) and Michelle Van Rieg Stanton (’08), were blessed to attend CCS, grades K-12.

Because of my parents’ strong conviction for the value of Christian education, I was blessed to attend Christian schools for most of K-12 and then attend Baylor University (Sic ‘em, Bears!), where I received my nursing degree. Following graduation, I worked in the Houston Northwest Medical Center Pediatric Unit. I went on to do fulltime camp nursing for several years at YMCA Camp Cullen, where I met my husband, John Van Rieg (CCS Coach and Operations Team).

After camp, I worked as a home health nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital for 20 years, and following that, for Kids Developmental Therapy for 12 years.

It was an honor to be asked to serve at CCS as secondary campus nurse.

This school has given our family so much. My heart is full of gratitude for the opportunity to give back to this amazing school and to serve the students, teachers, staff and families of CCS. I am so thankful for God’s provision, and I feel blessed every day to be able to work in this community that serves Jesus!

Mrs. Joy Bezner

Elementary Principal

Mrs. Bezner has worked at CCS for the past four and a half years. She is married to Steve Bezner, pastor of Houston Northwest Church.

They share two sons. Ben (’19) is currently a sophomore at Texas A&M University. He loved participating in cross country, One Act Play, school musicals and track & field during his time at CCS. Drew is a junior at CCS who has participated in multiple sports and settled on football and track & field. Mrs. Bezner says, “I love being at CCS and love our students and their families. Academic Excellence – One of the reasons I love CCS is because of the excellence we strive to have in academics. Our teachers are also learners and continue to grow through both in-person and online professional development. They use research-based best practices for teaching. Student data is used throughout the year to influence curriculum so that students continue to be challenged and are pushed to think critically.

Biblical Values – Our teachers share life with their students, teaching them about the Lord as they go about their day. We use the Bible to learn about the character of God and to teach students how to grow in their relationship with God and with others.

Cultural Impact – Our students leave elementary school with a strong foundation in basic skills, a love of learning and critical thinking ability. We see them continue to grow academically and spiritually into young men and women prepared to face what God has next for them, prepared to change the world for Christ.

Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” is a verse we reference often in elementary to remind us that what we do every day as staff and students is not for our boss or our parents, but that our work and studies have great meaning and purpose to grow the kingdom of God. 12

Mrs. Rhea has been a part of CCS for over 25 years. She is married to David, who has loved supporting the Warriors through the years as their daughters, Kit and Kallie, moved through the school. David strongly valued the partnership among church, home and school that their family benefited from as their daughters grew to young adulthood.

Kit (’12) attended CCS K-12, and loved participating in softball and speech. She is currently a middle school instructional partner in Eanes ISD in Austin, TX. Her husband will graduate UT Law in May 2021.

Kallie (’16) also attended CCS K-12, loved playing volleyball at CCS and appreciates the strong knowledge of the Bible that she learned. She is currently an executive assistant in Nashville, TN, where she is learning about “adulting” and enjoys visiting new places and country music.

Academic Excellence – I appreciate the emphasis on academic excellence at CCS. Preparing a student to reach his/her full potential and achieve individual goals and dreams is what the school seeks. In middle school, we want students to have a full cache of study and organizational skills that can be applied in any academic setting.

We want each student to step into high school and college, full of confidence in their abilities and preparation, and ready to leap out in faith.

Biblical Values – The adults who surround each child at CCS are unique. Each teacher, coach, administrator and staff member is a believer who can point a student to Truth and help them deal with life’s hard questions. The teachers are passionate about their content area and are committed to teaching with excellence from a biblical worldview.

Cultural Impact – Middle schoolers focus on serving and meeting the needs of others. Teachers and coaches help students see outside of their small world to the “big picture.” Stretching and challenging each other can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable, but we push students to be leaders among their peers, in their church, on their teams and one day, in our nation.

Dr. Berens is in his first year at CCS as high school principal. He is married to Carmen, and they have two children, Claire and Mason. Claire is a current CCS fourth grader. Ryan and Carmen are very passionate about foster care and have provided love and a home to nine foster children in three states over the years.

Academic Excellence – At CCS, we engage our students in a curriculum infused with critical thinking and problem solving. Every student graduates having had at least one AP course, prepared for college. Students create long-lasting relationships with their teachers and can reach out to them for academic or life advice even after they graduate from CCS. Biblical Values – Biblical values are why we take the first step into Christian education. I knew I wanted my children to attend a school where learning was based on biblical truth.

The faculty and students at CCS are surrounded by biblical truth daily. I love that our teachers push students to move beyond the faith of their parents, to own their faith and relationship with Jesus so they are prepared for the next step in life.

Cultural Impact – My family decided to make the move to CCS because we believe that the combination of academic excellence and biblical values can be purposefully used to make a tangible impact on our culture. I want my children to understand that when they graduate from CCS, they will have the knowhow to succeed in whatever they choose to do, and they can trust in the Lord to put them in the place where they are needed.

Academic Excellence

As the leadership team met over the summer in preparation for the new school year, the pervasive question was, “How is this going to work?�

Although CCS transitioned well when schools were unexpectedly closed in the spring due to COVID-19, the desire was to improve the process, but there was also very little experience or research to suggest the road forward.

The first and most important thing that was done was to pray to our Lord for wisdom. Knowing that His hand was on the process, the next step was to figure out how to accommodate all students and to provide them with a great education regardless of their physical location.

One of the very few constants in education is that it seems to always work best with a teacher in a classroom working with students. That was one of the main goals from the start of this process. Regardless of where students were, CCS needed teachers in front of the classrooms. To accomplish this, cameras made specifically for livestreaming were purchased and mounted in each room, and each student was outfitted with a Google Chromebook. Teachers were trained to operate this new equipment and to manage students in a 1:1 environment via on-the-job training.

The new technology provides a great deal of flexibility that is passed on to CCS families. Parents can choose to send students to campus, or they can get a similar experience by connecting virtually to classrooms. During the 2020-2021 school year, teachers have experienced having all their students on campus, some students on campus and some students on livestream and all students connecting via livestream. In each instance, the teachers can teach the lesson using the resources available to them because they are in their classrooms.

This flexibility has also allowed CCS families to move from livestream to on-campus learning as needed. Students dealing with illness, COVID-19 related or not, have the option to attend livestream classes. Some families started the year on livestream and have moved to on-campus learning, while other families started the year on-campus and have moved to livestream learning for a time. The livestream cameras also allow for most lessons to be recorded in case there is a day when a student is unable to attend through either type of learning environment.

Students chosen by their teachers and principals because Third grader Lorelai Waller is a beautiful example of how God intended us to see those around us. She sees her classmates as unique creations of God and sees past any flaws. She exemplifies biblical values.

The verses that come to mind about Lorelai’s character are Ephesians 5:1-2 – “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Zach Powers is a great sixth grader. A new student joined our school who had recently moved to the United States. Not only was CCS a new school, but everything was new for this student. Zach reached out to the new student and was a true friend; he helped with explaining the daily schedule, what to expect during athletics, the rules of football and any other questions that might arise. Zach saw someone who needed a friend and he stepped into that gap without being asked. Zach is an example of the values that are upheld at CCS—kindness, generosity, selflessness.

Senior Elizabeth Richardson has a quiet, yet fun-loving spirit in her. She has qualities of compassion, availability, enthusiasm, joyfulness, obedience, self-control, responsibility and sincerity. She is a blessing to be around and her friends are drawn to her for many of these same qualities. She can almost always be seen with a smile on her face which also demonstrates godly love for the people around her.

of their character and the way they exemplify Biblical Values Fourth grader Esteban Hinojosa has a boldness for his faith and a strong desire to serve others. He is a friend to those who seem to need a friend and is quick to show love to others. He has had a heart for the homeless from a very young age and is a Graced Ministry Ambassador, where he has served in many ways including helping to feed, clothe and pray over the homeless in the community.

Katie Schmitt is a wonderful eighth grader.

Katie joined the CCS family as a sixth grader. Her heart for academic excellence, obedience and sensitivity to the needs of others demonstrates the “One Heart� motto. Katie looks for ways to go beyond the academic expectations of her teachers as she takes three high school-level classes in eighth grade. Katie never complains, but rather encourages and supports others.

Katie sees opportunities to reach out to fellow students and works quietly and humbly to serve. Katie is a great example of what it means to be a CCS Warrior!

Senior David Quarles has a quiet and thoughtful confidence in him. He has qualities of attentiveness, compassion, contentment, dependability, determination, gentleness, initiative, orderliness, responsibility, self-control, sincerity and wisdom. David often seems to be deep in thought. He takes his time to understand things, cares for the welfare of others and has a desire to please God in all that he does. He is well respected by his classmates and is a great example of what it looks like to be a Christian young man.

Cultural Impact

Introducing the Warrior Leadership Academy The Warrior Leadership Academy (WLA) began in the spring of last year as a platform for Cypress Christian Warriors to travel the world as part of the Student Leadership University program. Warrior students return from their various summer experiences with a challenge to impact their campus, churches and community. With the belief that leadership is defined as “influence,” students are taught that everyone can lead, regardless of age.

And dreams should be big!

Last summer, over 100 Cypress Christian high school students attended Student Leadership University 101 (SLU). SLU is a four-year, sequential leadership development program in Washington, DC, London, Paris, Normandy, Jordan and Israel. Students are exposed to unique leaders in incredible venues to include members of Congress, top-tier business leaders and military heroes.

A central tenet of the WLA program is to give participants at least a fiveyear head start on leadership principles. Student leaders in the program are introduced to various leadership books and materials that many adults read in college or later in their careers. The group meets in person when possible for lunches and lectures throughout the year with an emphasis on applying the leadership lessons learned from the previous summer. Besides being the most dynamic and successful student leadership program in the country, SLU also teaches students that all leadership begins at the feet of Jesus.

Despite the challenges associated with travel during the recent pandemic, Cypress Christian School’s Warrior Leadership Academy and Student Leadership University looks forward to continuing the leadership journey in the summer of 2021. It is exciting to see Warriors traveling the world to intentionally develop their leadership skills while preparing themselves to impact their country and God’s Kingdom.

CCS 2020 Graduation President’s Volunteer Service Awards

The 2020 graduating class had 58% of its members earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award for 200 hours of service. In many cases, our graduates served significantly more than those hours in their time at CCS.

100% of graduates were accepted to colleges and universities throughout the U.S., 90% to their first-choice school, with many earning academic, athletic and leadership scholarships.

Valedictorian CCS Faculty Scholarship for Academic Excellence

Gabby Kostecki earned the distinguished honor of being named Valedictorian for achieving the highest grade point average in her class, and was awarded the Faculty Scholarship for Academic Excellence. Along with being named Valedictorian, Gabby was awarded the Texas Education Association’s Highest-Ranking Graduate Award. Gabby attends The Honors College at the University of Houston as a Tier One Scholar.

Gabby has received the following scholarships: Tier One Scholarship, Texas Highest-Ranking Graduate, Society of Professional Women in Petroleum Award, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Cy-Fair Women’s Club Scholarship, Tomball Business and Professional Women Scholarship, Joshua Expeditions Outstanding NACS National Scholarship and the CCS Spirit of Paul Scholarship. Her life verse is Matthew 11:28-29 – Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Salutatorian

Maddie Beckmeier earned the title of Salutatorian for achieving the second highest grade point average among her peers. Maddie attends Baylor University as a Distinguished Scholar. Maddie has received the following scholarships: Baylor University Merit/ Academic Scholarship, Invitation to Excellence Scholarship and the Baylor Virtual Events Scholarship.

Her life verse is Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

Will Rhodes Athletic Scholarship

In memory of former CCS student William David Rhodes, Abigail Davis and Clayton Dean were chosen to receive this athletic scholarship. These graduates have made public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ, demonstrated Christ-like behavior to fellow students and athletes and were living witnesses to others as they led their teams and followed their coaches. Abigail attends Louisiana State University. Her life verse is 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. Clayton attends the University of Louisiana – Lafayette. His life verse is Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Spirit of Paul

Scholarship Gabby Kostecki was awarded this scholarship for exhibiting the driving spirit and perseverance of the Apostle Paul who accomplished much for the early church. Gifts were received in memory of David Mayberry (grandfather of Collin, Cayden and Caroline Tate), Spyder Broussard (grandfather of Jackson Broussard), David Rhodes (father of Will and Josh Rhodes) and Jerry Van Beek (CCS co-founder) for this scholarship.

Andrew Gladney (‘05)

Memorial Heart of Gold Scholarship In memory of alumnus Andrew Gladney (‘05), Connor Newell was awarded this scholarship, which recognizes a senior who loves and accepts all, both inside and outside the CCS community; endears others without favoritism; participates wholeheartedly in activities to reflect Christian character and sportsmanship and diligently pursues and excels academically according to his/her ability. Connor attends Texas A&M University. His life verse is John 1:4-5 – In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Fine Arts Scholarship

Cypress Christian School has a rich heritage of producing students who excel in the areas of music, art and drama. The Fine Arts Scholarship reflects an overall excellence in the arts.

This year’s recipients are Bella Kraft and Brandon Newell.

Bella attends the University of Mississippi. Her life verse is Psalm 18:34 - He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. Brandon attends Baylor University. His life verse is Colossians 3:14 – And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

Memorial Scholarship

In memory of former CCS student Travis Chaffin, J.T. Tackett was awarded a scholarship for being an encourager, leader, great athlete and friend as well as for his potential to make an impact on the world with his Christian walk. J.T. attends New Mexico Junior College. His life verse is Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to honor the memory of longtime math teacher, Mr. Linwood Brown, who faithfully served hundreds of students throughout the course of his career teaching math in Christian schools.

This award goes to a graduating senior who demonstrates a high level of interest in the areas of math and science and is noted for being a hard worker. Preference was given to a senior who was a student in one of Mr. Brown’s classes. This year’s recipient is Jace Harper. Jace attends Lone Star College.

Don’t you just love the sound of those two simple words?

I remember the first time I was inspired to use the phrase…I took the words right from God’s Word. It was over 20 years ago, and I had been trying for several weeks to come up with a way to maximize a new sense of direction and momentum for a particular group, and honestly, I wasn’t having much success. It all changed in the middle of a morning Bible study when I read the following words in Acts chapter 4; “Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul…” As those beautiful words seemed to leap off the page at me, I could feel the Lord saying THAT is how you maximize human impact…unity. ONE HEART. I was immediately reminded of the many places in the scriptures where the principle of unity was highlighted as the main ingredient in maximizing impact.

Regardless of who or what those words are describing, they leave a powerful and enduring picture in the mind. If someone were asked to describe their church, family or school, and the response was ONE HEART, you would not need an explanation to understand. It is succinct, descriptive, simple and best of all, powerful. The imagery, the very idea of a group of people with a unity so in sync, you would describe as ONE HEART is not only a very moving idea to consider, but it is motivating!

Historically speaking, the impact and power of people working together for a common goal is hard to understate. The power of people having ONE HEART has been the engine behind most of history’s incredible accomplishments, from Nehemiah’s wall building, to the early church turning the world upside down, to the victory in America’s war for independence.

What I love most is the broad application of the idea of having ONE HEART. It can be the simple sentiment of a humble family or the battle cry of those establishing a Kingdom…or, the motto for the best school in Texas! Go, Warriors!

Elementary School Cypress Christian School participates in the West Houston Christian Sports Association. The philosophy of the league is to promote understanding of the game, as well as sportsmanship and Christian fellowship. Generations of Warriors have walked the halls of Cypress Christian School since 1978, including Jeromy Moore, who began first grade in 1984, when classes were held at Cypress Bible Church.

Jeromy’s mom and dad, Vicki and Terry Moore, wanted Jeromy to receive a strong academic and biblical education in a traditional classroom setting, which CCS provided. He is thankful for his parents’ decision as CCS allowed him to be in an atmosphere where God was the focal point. He says, “Whether it was pledging to the Christian flag or attending chapel, time was always set aside to learn about God and honor Him. My time at CCS instilled in me the importance and value of a Christian education, as well as having like-minded friendships.”

Today, 36 years later, Jeromy and his wife, Tristan, are thankful that their son Jonathan is a first grader at Cypress Christian School, now a K-12 campus located less than a mile from where Jeromy attended class. Jeromy credits his CCS education with giving him a passion to make sure his children are in a godly atmosphere. The couple is thankful Jonathan is pointed to Christ in everything he does. “When we drop Jonathan off at school, we don’t worry, as we are fully confident that he will receive the best education, care and attention.

That peace of mind is priceless.”

“We know CCS was the right choice,” say Jeromy and Tristan. “We wanted our son to experience the loving, caring environment that Jeromy experienced, and God has provided mightily. The school is such a positive place with wonderful teachers that love our child, which is reflected each day in Jonathan. He comes home happy and says he is so thankful to go to CCS.” Fun Facts: Through the years, the Moore family has been active in helping to build the K-12 campus that students and families enjoy today.

My life verse, Proverbs 22:6, has abundantly been answered. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” I give much of the credit to God for directing us to CCS to prepare them for life.

And now, I am so thankful and overjoyed that my grandson, Jonathan, is attending CCS. I know he will benefit from godly teachers, classmates from Christian homes and a strong curriculum. I’m excited for what the future holds for him, knowing he will be surrounded in prayer, have Christian adults overseeing the ups and downs of everyday life and be blessed by wonderful, enriching times in chapel and in co-curricular activities.”

Peter Achterkirch (’16) graduated from The Citadel – The Military College of South Carolina with a political science degree in law and legal studies. He is commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army serving in the Signal Corps. Peter will be serving at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. While at The Citadel, Cadet Achterkirch held rank as Alpha Company Clerk, Company Academic NCO, Company Academic Officer and was Alpha Company’s Honor Representative for the Citadel Honor Court. Peter is shown in photo with his parents, Ian and Christine Achterkirch.

Makayla Frye (’16) graduated summa cum laude from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, with a B.S. in intercultural studies, and cum laude from Cox College of Nursing with an associate degree in nursing (ADN). She attended Park Crest Baptist Church while in college and worked in the middle school department. Makayla has accepted a nursing position at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO, in the step down unit. She will continue her nursing education to pursue her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing with plans to become a medical missionary.

Ashley Anderson (‘16) graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, EC-6 with a certification in ESL. While at Texas State, Ashley was a part of ACEI, Honors College, and worked as a peer mentor on campus helping freshmen integrate into university life.

In addition, she helped plant two churches called Wayfinders, serving as the Children’s Church Director at the San Marcos location.

Ashley says, “I am so excited to begin my teaching career and can’t wait to see where God takes me next!”

Celebrating Warrior Accomplishments

Dai’ja Coleman (’15) graduated cum laude from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2019 earning a B.S. in Psychology. Dai’ja attended UTRGV on a full athletic scholarship and participated in track & field all four years of college. She tied the indoor triple jump record and was one of seven athletes to compete in the NCAATF Division I West Preliminary Round. During the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years, Dai’ja has enjoyed coaching at Cypress Christian School. She coached the middle school C volleyball team, was the assistant coach for the high school girls varsity basketball team and the assistant coach for high school track and field athletes specializing in long jump and triple jump. This fall (2020), she began clinicals for nursing school at Prairie View A&M University, working toward her goal of becoming a mental health nurse.

John Crozier (’16) attended Texas A&M University from 2016-2019 and was a member of the Corps of Cadets (Company D-2). Upon enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2019, he completed recruit training in San Diego, CA and MCT (Marine Combat Training) school at Camp Pendleton. As a new Private First Class, John began initial military occupational training at Naval Aircrew Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion of the course he was promoted to Lance Corporal. In November 2020, John completed Crew Chief training in the CH-53E Super Stallion at MCAS New River and received his wings. He will join the fleet as a member of squadron HMH-462 stationed at MCAS Miramar in California.

Timothy Odeyomi (’16) graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He is thankful to God for His mighty provision over the last four years and is thankful to family and friends who helped make his success possible. He has secured full-time employment as a process engineer at CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Corpus Christi, TX, and is looking forward to the next chapter in his life.

Will Echols (’15) and Emily Fredrickson Echols (’16) were married on July 10, 2020. In May, Emily graduated from Samford University with a B.S. in biochemistry and a minor in biology, and Will graduated from Texas A&M University with an M.S. and B.B.A. in accounting. They recently moved to Austin, TX, where Will is an audit associate for RSM and Emily is a medical scribe for Robin Healthcare. Before moving, they joined a group of volunteers for the Houston Food Bank to sort, bag and distribute 27,000 pounds of produce for 200 families in the Spring Branch area, and they enjoyed attending the 2020 Warrior Alumni Homecoming event held in October. Michelle Anderson Cowan (‘06) and her husband Jesse welcomed their second son, Joshua Daniel Cowan, on June 9, 2020. His big brother, Jacob, turned 5 on November 20. He and his uncle, Michael Anderson (‘04) share the same birthday!

Michelle and her family live in Denver, CO, where she is the Director of Sales and Strategic Church Partnerships for MOPS International, Inc., an organization that supports moms throughout the world. MOPS believes that remarkable things happen when moms come together.

MOPS partners with churches and organizations worldwide to equip and encourage moms in 70 countries. Jesse is the Technical Director for Fellowship Denver Church. Michelle and Jesse love raising their boys together in Colorado, making music and hiking any chance they get!

Celebrating Warrior Weddings & Little Warriors!

Jonathan Davis (’10) married Natalie Lanclos on October 10, 2020, with his best man Brandon Galloway (’10) by his side and with CCS Coach and Dean of Students Craig Cleveland officiating the wedding.

While a student at CCS, Coach Cleveland was Jonathan’s history and Bible teacher and his high school basketball coach for four years.

During this time, Coach Cleveland mentored Jonathan, teaching him not only skills in the classroom and on the court, but life skills on how to be a man of God. When asked how he felt officiating the wedding of a former student/player, Coach Cleveland said, “It was an honor and privilege to officiate Jonathan and Natalie’s wedding.

JD has been a tremendous blessing to me, and I am humbled that he allowed me to be a part of such a monumental event in his life.”

After earning his undergraduate and master’s degrees in sport management from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Texas A&M University, Jonathan served at CCS as a high school teacher, and under the leadership of Coach Cleveland, he coached middle school, JV and varsity boys basketball. Currently, JD is using his degrees, with an emphasis in kinesiology, as a therapist and office manager at Lorenz Total Wellness. Natalie, a graduate of Sam Houston State University, is a financial analyst.

Cody Chaffin (’13) and wife Lauren Echols Chaffin (’13) welcomed their first child, Eliana Lynne Chaffin, on September 25, 2020, and say, “We are over the moon in love with her.” Lauren is a registered dietician, and Cody, a graduate of Ozark Christian College with a B.A. in Christian ministries, is the Student Discipleship Pastor at Cy-Fair Christian Church. He spoke to secondary students during the school year about Acts 16 and the question asked by the Philippian jailer, “What must I do to be saved?” Paul’s answer was, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”
