Millthorpe’s new little library The quaint little village of Millthorpe is now complete with its very own little library which sits outside the Corner Store. Roger Ellis, the local behind the idea says it’s a great thing for the community.

“I think a big thing is to boost the literacy.

Living in Millthorpe, you would have to go all the way to Orange to the library, so you probably wouldn’t bother. You can now wander down here to the corner store, get a coffee, and grab a book. There are books for all ages with a great selection,” Roger said.

Johnson couldn’t recommend it more.

“It has been quite popular. I think the books have already been turned over a number of times now. I think it is a good way to encourage people to read more, which I think is just so important,” Sharon said.

Roger first came up with the idea after seeing little libraries outside train stations in Sydney and thought it would be a perfect idea to have one here too.

“I thought now that’s a great idea as it was just sitting on its own, minding its own business. I thought well it would be great to have one in Millthorpe.”

“The first one I started was out at the school at Lyndhurst. It sits outside the school gate and it is going well so we decided to do another. The one in Millthorpe has been here for about two weeks now.”

“I think nearly all the original books that I put there have now moved on. Every book I can see now is a new one. I am keeping it under control, so it always looks good too,” said Roger.

It is safe to say that the little library has already been a big hit, with kids especially getting excited to see what new book they can find.

Come along to Carrington Park from 8.30am to buy some fresh, local produce. There will be some great produce on offer so be sure not to miss it.

ORC Head of Vocal Studies Samantha Bartholomeusz said, “I came up with the theme because I noticed Beatles songs got a few of my choirs really excited and seemed to appeal to all ages, so I decided to pull everyone together at the ORC for a concert

“People can expect to hear all their favourites performed in a huge variety of different settings, the music of the Beatles lends itself so well to being arranged for different groups and instruments. The audience will get to hear just how flexible and well written these songs are. We also hope this concert will bring in new members of the community who may not associate the ORC with an event such as this, we love how this concert is becoming so inclusive and accessible for people,” she said.

SINGING YOU HOME Check out Orange’s musical taxi that will be running throughout the JAM Saturday event held on the 24th of March.

JAM Orange’s Vice President Jon Carter came up with the unique idea and he thinks it will be a hit.

“I came up with it and I think it is a good idea as a part of the brief was to put music in unusual places or places where music doesn’t normally happen, this is probably the most out there one!”

“The musical taxi is a part of the JAM event and anyone who hires the musical taxi

between 11am-1pm will get Ado or Haylee playing for them.”

“We will play you your favourite tunes and sing you home.”

The JAM Saturday event is a celebration of music with over 36 artists playing across 12 venues on the one day. The event will be based in Robertson Park and surrounding venues. The event is free and suitable for all ages to enjoy.

There will be music for all genres so grab your family and friends and come along to this live and local event.

PAPER PEAR POP UP SHOP The Corner Store Gallery has recently announced they will be hosting fellow gallery owner Steph Day of Paper Pear and a stunning collection of artists she represents for a ten-day long exhibition from the 15th of March.

Steph is the creative force and owner of Wagga-based studio and art gallery, Paper Pear and is renowned for her continually evolving collection of Australian artworks, one-off statement pieces, and beautiful handmade cards.

Steph is a passionate advocate of all things Australian made and luckily for Orange locals, Steph is also a keen traveler and delights

in exploring different parts of NSW. The popular art curator says, “I love nothing more than to road trip in search of beautiful artworks, delivering pieces along the way, and I also enjoy a great following in the Central West. Having lived in Wagga, Bathurst, and Dubbo, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to pop up in Orange”.

Some of the artists to be featured over the ten days included Polly Kimmorley, Anna Blatman, Katie Wyatt, Felicia Aroney and Catherine Stewart.

The exhibition kicks off with an opening night on Thursday 15th of March from 6 pm. The local community and beyond are all warmly invited to attend.

JAM SATURDAY, is a one day free mini music festival which will see one of the largest concentrations of 50 plus local performers entertaining crowds in Robertson Park and 15 venues, all within walking distance from the Park. It will feature artists from across the Orange region, covering many different musical genres including Acoustic Singer Songwriters, Rock Bands, Country, Americana, Austracana, Folk, Ambient and Classical as well as Choirs and School Concert Bands.

The Honey Drippin’ Mudskippers

The Central West’s go to bush band for weddings, parties almost anything. They enthralled young and old at this year’s Australia Day celebrations at Carcoar. Come a waltzing along with a good fun dance band who lay down their traditional sounds blending Irish folk with Australiana.

The Hip Replacements Josh Maynard a young man on the move, his tunes and playing invoke the essence of classic Australian songwriters like Shane Howard & John Schuman, whom his had the privilege of working with on his new batch of original songs for his eagerly awaited second album. Catch him before he heads off to play at the National Folk Festival in Canberra.

A dapper five-piece band whose sound recalls the roaring days of ragtime blues, jazz and country swing, driven by four voices and instrumentation including upright bass, banjo, ukulele, vintage archtop guitars and Miss “Tootsie Von Teetie” pounding and scraping her washboard. Listening to these cats can cause spontaneous breakouts of quick steps, jitterbugs and jives.

A hip little outfit with the delightful Genni Kane handling the vocals with the musical muscle of Jon Wilby & Gavan Wickes Christian Prusiak they give a good serving of acoustic pop songs done their own special way.

They’ll take you on a musical journey that you don’t want to end.

Two ladies who met in a record store, forming a musical partnership that blossomed with the release of their debut album “Dark Gives Way” blending soul, pop and country sounds. 3 hit singles later and shows up and down the eastern seaboard, words out on what we’ve known in the Orange Region all along, this duo is great. Catch them before they head off on tour to Melbourne.

A roots based rock band who can also delve into elements of pop to implant melodies deep into your subconscious, which they have done across the tracks on their second album Foxy’s Farm. Kris Schubert possess one of the most soulful voices in the Central West and plays 88 keys like a cross between Allen Toussaint and Ray Charles.

Providing a depth that comes only through experience to songs you know and love from Nick Drake, Suzanne Vega & Neil Finn set in rustic organic musical arrangements, on her exquisite album The Springbird. She is no mere imitator, lyrics are given space to breathe, and the listener can kick back and soak in Lynda’s sultry, soulful vocals.

Ben Mc Garity Entertaining audiences across the Central West as None but Ned for the past 5 years playing Country and Rock n Roll chestnuts, with his debut album which includes 4 original songs that are sure to get Justin noticed in Tamworth as an emerging songwriter.

A powerhouse of the popular song whether its classics from the 60’s right through to current hits. A master of the loop pedal he can build layers on the fly to provide a full band sound or play stripped down and bare. He’ll Get Yer Ya Ya’s out till you can’t Uptown Funk no more.

Smith & Jones

After singing with her brother and sister for years, Atahlia is now stepping out as a solo performer.

Blessed with a voice that can purvey pure pop, pound out R&B with a whole lotta soul and bring you to your knees with some Gospel. An artist to watch out for and one not to be missed.

Big stadiums and a bigger message Do you know what event has the biggest attendance record at the MCG (currently Australia’s biggest stadium)?

It is not a sporting event! Rather, the record was set in 1959 when more than 130,000 people listened to Billy Graham tell people about Jesus. That event was part of a four month tour that filled stadiums all around our country.

big that they used the neighbouring showgrounds for overflow as well – for a total of about 150,000 people.

The numbers were big, but it was the message rather than the crowds that matter. The message was that God had sent his son, Jesus, to this world so that our guilt before God could be cancelled - our slate wiped clean. Instead we can live forever as friends of God. In order to accept the offer, we simply need to place our trust in God. Billy Graham died recently, or as he would put it, changed his address to heaven. So listen to the message and, like him, be on the path that leads to heaven.
