opportunity to expand

The Patmos Gardens Café is a great business as-is, but has huge potential for growth. The current owner, Michael Gryllis, would do it himself, but it is time for retirement after 62 years in the hospitality industry. The café is fully licensed and can seat up to 110 people, and is located right next to the Botanic Gardens. The potential to trade longer hours exists as it is currently closed Mondays and only opens two nights. There is an attached 3-bedroom home included in the lease that has a separate entrance, and can either be lived in or rented out to supplement the income. Call for more information.

Tenancy Top Tips We find many tenants are aware of their obligation to treat a property for fleas when they vacate if a pet has been on premises, however many are unsure of responsibility for other kinds of pest control. As a general rule, pest control is a landlord responsibility at the start of a tenancy and the tenants responsibility during a tenancy. However, there are exceptions to this such as bees in a wall cavity, or termites at any stage of the tenancy. Coming into summer we recommend getting your home treated for spiders, this can be done by a professional or using a DIY surface spray on the outside of your home.

Sarah Williams-’Hear No See No Speak No’

MOLONG SCHOOL WINS BIG UPSTART EXHIBITION Winning three of the top awards in the UpstART exhibition, you could say that Molong Central School has taken the cake. The art exhibition was the 14th of its kind held at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery. The exhibition consisted of works from students in year 10, 11 and 12, in categories including drawing, painting, mixed media, photography and sculpture. Molong Central’s Sarah Williams was awarded First Place in Year 12 for her work

Erin Coyte - ‘Headspace’

‘Hear No See No Speak No’. Sarah’s artwork was developed throughout her HSC year and was based on child labour and exploitation within the last century, specific to Molong residents who lived at Fairbridge Farm. “Sarah wanted her art work to sensitively acknowledge the past, and to show the different perspectives of Fairbridge Farm,” said Art Teacher Claire Ryan. Janita Stapelberg won First Place in Painting with her work

‘Aspirations’, a developed series of paintings based on a local family of 6. Being inspired by young children’s aspirations, Janita decided to photograph the children in front of a blackboard where she asked the children to draw what they wanted to become when they grew up. From these photographs she painted them in a monochromatic style with a green blackboard where the children redrew their aspirations. Erin Coyte also took out a

top prize winning First Place in Year 11. What first began as therapy for herself quickly began to express a variety of emotions. Working closely with Headspace in Orange Erin is very aware of the issues involving mental health in the society, and her work expresses the anxieties that people deal with daily. “This year has not been a one off and the Visual Arts students work very hard to create high quality work throughout their classes,” said Claire. A hands-on way to experience Orange and the Central West’s history will form part of the educational programs at Orange Regional Museum next year. The 2018 children’s education program will consist of new Indigenous Engagement Days, History in a Box education kits and a range of hands on activities focusing on the new exhibition. Students often learn best by doing, and these programs are all interactive as they learn about the history and culture of where they live. Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the museum’s education programs for the current exhibition—Journeys: People, Place, Stories—had been hugely successful. “More than 1,500 students went through the doors and did

a treasure hunt or opened up the history of migrants as they rummaged through items in period suitcases. “They handled really old objects like those strange items called cassette tapes,” he laughed. More than 30 different schools from across the Central West, as far as Parkes and Forbes, visited the Orange Regional Museum to participate in the educational program. Students aged from kindergarten to high school engaged in the workshop and enjoyed learning about the area. “We’re lucky to have such a wonderful educational resource on our doorstep. Bookings are now open for the 2018 education programs, which include activities at the Orange Regional Museum but also at sites across the region.” Cr Kidd said. DECEMBER 7–13, 2017

1 HOW TO PLAY To solve a Sudoku puzzle, every number from 1 to 9 must appear in:  Each of the nine vertical columns  Each of the nine horizontal rows  Each of the nine 3 x 3 boxes Remember no number can occur more than once in any row, column or box.

I was born on April 21, 1926, in Mayfair, London. My second and third given names are Alexandra Mary. My engagement was announced in July 1947 and I married that November. The first of our four children was born in late 1948. I was in Kenya when I learned of my father’s death. I took on my current role in June, 1953. After 64 years, I continue to maintain a busy schedule, with hundreds of engagements every year. I famously described 1992 as my “annus horribilis”. Shortly before the 2012 London Olympics I celebrated my Diamond Jubilee. I am the world’s oldest reigning monarch.

CROSSPURPOSES

Solving the God riddle Do you like riddles? Here are some examples: • Feed me and I live, give me a drink and I die — What am I? • What can’t go down a chimney up but can go up a chimney down? • What belongs to you, but others use it more than you do? I will let you work them out or google them (like everything else).

WITH BRUCE BENNETT

Here is a riddle about God: Beer, Sex and Sin — Pick the odd one out. What do you reckon the right answer is? Is it beer because it is the only four letter word. Maybe, maybe not. I am not going to tell you. But I can tell you that this riddle is not as silly or frivolous as it may seem. In fact, the answer to this riddle is the beginning of solving the most basic riddle about you and God. You may not find the answer on google but you can find the answer in the words of Jesus, in the Bible in Mark 7:14-23. If you work out the answer, then Romans 6:23 will answer your next question.
