Pick the score in State of Origin Game 2 and you could Alfred, his wife Abong and their two small children are just one of the many families involved in this year’s Refugee Day. “Refugee Day reminds us of our own experiences and more importantly what we have accomplished since moving to a Western country,” says Alfred. Originally from South Sudan, before migrating to the United States to complete his Degree in Civil Engineering, Alfred knows firsthand the many advantages of living in a safe country with his family close by. “We are enjoying the opportunities of a new life, my family are here and are happy, so I followed them- it’s hard being apart from your loved ones.” Refugee Day celebrations kick off Thursday, June 20 at the TAFE Library midday, with guest speakers from South Sudan and the Nuba Mountains.
