Summer Greetings from Travis Bary

Over the past several months, we have made several additions to our resort portfolio, including two exceptional properties in Myrtle Beach:

As summer arrives in full swing comes the perfect opportunity to get out, explore, and make memories that last a lifetime. Whether you're rediscovering a favorite destination or setting out somewhere entirely new, this is the season to travel freely, experience new cultures, and share unforgettable moments with the people you love most.

At Capital Vacations, we believe deeply in the power of travel to create lasting joy and memories. In fact, a study conducted by the Family Holiday Association revealed that 49% of people say their happiest memory is a vacation with family. Similarly, research from the Journal of Consumer Research shows that experiences, like vacations, bring more lasting happiness than material possessions. These findings only reinforce what we already know: the time you spend together on vacation matters.

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhance your Club experience, we’re excited to announce the updated Owners Portal is coming soon. This redesigned platform is built with you in mind, making it easier than ever to search for destinations, make reservations, and plan your next adventure with confidence.

• Prince Resort: Located near the iconic Cherry Grove Pier, this oceanfront gem offers home-like accommodations with sweeping Atlantic views, oceanfront pools, on-site dining, and unbeatable beach access.

• Camelot By The Sea: Featuring 231 oceanfront condos ranging from cozy studios to spacious three-bedroom units, Camelot remains one of Myrtle Beach’s most beloved destinations, offering incredible views and family-friendly amenities in the heart of it all.

Thank you for being such an important part of the Capital Vacations family. Your trust, loyalty, and enthusiasm to explore the world mean everything to us, and that’s exactly the inspiration that guides us to make your Club experience better every day. We’re so excited to see where your travels take you this summer and beyond! Safe travels.

A Vacation that Created a Lifetime of Memories

One Week, Forever Cherished

It was the summer of 1986, a time when life seemed simpler, and the world felt wide open. I was just a teenager then, and when my parents, Tom and Susan, announced we were going to Hawaii, it felt like they had handed us the golden ticket to paradise. Joining us on this adventure were my sister, La La, and our quirky Uncle Sonny, whom we affectionately called Uncle Skunky—a nickname as unique as the man himself.

As we arrived on the island to a welcome of warm, we were greeted with leis, salty air and the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore. The first day was dedicated to the beach, and what a day it was. The sand felt like powdered sugar beneath my feet, and the water shimmered in a shade of turquoise so vivid it hardly seemed real. Dad set up a small area for us with towels and an umbrella, while Mom unpacked snacks. La La and I raced to the water—she was always faster, but I didn't care. The ocean was like nothing I had ever seen, endless and full of wonder. Uncle Skunky, ever the jokester, built a sandcastle so elaborate it could have had its own zip code, all while wearing his infamous Hawaiian “flowered” shirt that seemed to compete with the scenery for attention.

Later that evening, we attended a traditional Hawaiian luau. The air was fragrant with the scent of roasting pork and plumeria flowers. It was my first time seeing a whole pig being unearthed from an imu, the underground oven. The music and dancing transported us to another world. Hula dancers swayed with a grace I couldn’t comprehend, and the fire dancers left us breathless. Uncle Skunky attempted to mimic their moves, much to the delight of the crowd and our utter embarrassment. But as I watched the performers tell stories through their movements, something stirred in me—a fascination with how deeply connected they were to their history and culture. It was as if they were inviting us to see the world through their eyes, even if only for an evening.

The next few days were a whirlwind of exploration, but the highlight was our trip to see the volcanoes. We ventured to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, a place that felt otherworldly. The landscape changed as we drove—lush greenery gave way to barren lava fields that stretched as far as the eye could see. I remember standing on the edge of a caldera, feeling the ground beneath me vibrate ever so slightly, a hum of the earth’s raw power. Uncle Skunky, true to

form, joked about us being too close to the lava and acted as if his shoes were melting. At the time, his antics made me laugh so hard I cried, but looking back, I think it was his way of keeping the fear at bay. Seeing real-life lava was unlike anything I’d ever imagined. It glowed a mesmerizing orangered, creeping and bubbling as it carved new paths through the earth. Mom held La La’s hand tightly, and Dad stood silently, his usual playful demeanor replaced with awe and finding peace and relaxation. Even Uncle Skunky fell quiet for a moment.

Watching the lava flow, I felt an overwhelming sense of how small we are in the grand scheme of things, but also how connected we are to the forces that shape our world.

The trip came to an end far too quickly, as most good things do. On the plane ride home, I stared out the window, watching the islands shrink into the vast Pacific and wondering if I’d ever return. That week in Hawaii left an indelible mark on me. It wasn’t just the beauty of the islands—though they were breathtaking—but the experiences we shared as a family. The trip taught me to embrace adventure, to find joy in the little moments, and to appreciate the people around me for who they are.

Decades later, I can still close my eyes and see La La’s grin as she splashed me with seawater, hear Uncle Skunky’s booming laugh echoing across the beach, and feel the warmth of the Hawaiian sun on my face. That trip wasn’t just a family vacation; it was a chapter of my life that taught me about wonder, connection, and the importance of cherishing every moment. Hawaii didn’t just leave an imprint on my memory; it shaped the way I see the world forever. Today, I am thankful for these types of vacations with my family – as my wife and I introduce our daughters to the different cultures, traditions, and foodways.

Take a Vacation from Your Screens

Off-Grid Ideas in an Increasingly Digital World

Taking a vacation from screens while on vacation might seem like a challenge in today’s digital world, but it’s one of the most refreshing ways to truly disconnect, recharge, and enjoy the present moment. The first step is to set an intention before your vacation even begins. Decide that you will take time off from screens, whether it’s limiting social media use or avoiding work emails and sneaking in an occasional video conference call altogether. This commitment will serve as your anchor, keeping you focused on your goal of rejuvenation.

Once you arrive at your destination, start by turning off all non-essential notifications. It’s tempting to check your phone for updates, it might feel awkward, but soon you’ll notice how much more you absorb from your environment—sounds, smells, and sights that often go unnoticed

when you're glued to a screen.

Next, immerse yourself in activities that naturally don’t require technology. To stay accountable, plan tech-free meals with your travel companions. Use these times to have meaningful conversations, enjoy the food, and laugh. If you’re traveling solo, enjoy the solitude without distractions. Perhaps even set a goal of leaving your phone behind during certain meals or activities.

Remember to enjoy the quiet. Often, vacations are an escape from the noise of everyday life, but we still let technology dictate our attention. Turn off your screens at sunset, giving yourself time to truly unwind before bed. The magic of a vacation is in the unfiltered experiences, and when you step away from your screens, you open up space to feel truly rejuvenated and connected to the world around you. By the end of your trip, you might realize how deeply you’ve recharged by simply being present and embracing the art of taking a vacation from your screens.

Technology-free Activities to Consider

Fishing: A relaxing and rewarding activity, perfect for bonding and enjoying nature. Wether you're at a lake, river, or the ocean, fishing offers a peaceful escape and the thrill of catching your own dinner.

Hiking: Exploring trails and enjoying the great outdoors is a popular way to stay active and appreciate nature. Hiking allows you to discover new landscapes, enjoy fresh air, and get some exercise.

Nature Watching: Bird watching and observing wildlife are common pastimes, often with binoculars and field guides in hand. This activity encourages patience

Picnics: Packing a basket with homemade goodies and enjoying a meal in a scenic spot is a timeless activity. Picnics offer a chance to relax, enjoy good food, and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.

Camping: Setting up tents, cooking over a campfire, and sleeping under the stars are quintessential off-grid activities. Camping brings you closer to nature and everyone loves a good ghost story!

Beach Activities: Building sandcastles, swimming, playing beach volleyball, and searching for sharks teeth are perfect for a day by the sea. These activities are fun,

Doing Cabo Right Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Rent A Car

There’s so much to see, and cabs cost a fortune. Buses, while cheap, are limited in their routes. Get a four-wheel-drive car or a truck if you plan to explore the canyons and other outlying areas. The best spots are reachable only by unpaved roads, and a truck will provide a smoother ride on this terrain.

Dare To Drink The Water

This isn’t advised in most parts of Mexico, but filtered water is the norm in Los Cabos. In fact, it’s often filtered two or three times, and it’s freely used in cooking and for ice cubes. If you’re worried that your resort doesn’t filter, just ask. Most places pride themselves on their water purification and will bring it up during check-in or orientation.

Eat At Taco Stands

There’s nothing better than a Baja fish taco—a corn or flour tortilla wrapped around fried or grilled fish (marlin, cod, tuna or whatever’s fresh-caught that day), then garnished with addons chosen from a salad bar stocked with shredded lettuce, hot peppers, at least four different sauces and more. The average cost is about $2 each, so you can sample different styles at every meal. Try the ones at Hangman in San Jose del Cabo.

Great Eats in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Playa del Carmen has long been known as the top foodie locale on the Riviera Maya. For decades, chefs from all over have been lured to this low-rise town, an hour south of Cancún, by the dream of opening their own little place by the beach. But when a few margarita-andmariachi chain restaurants moved in, it began to look as if Playa’s incredible range of dining options might be overrun.

La Ceibal

Most Playa restaurants are on Fifth Avenue, but not this one. La Ceiba is a no-frills open-air spot on 30th Avenue, just a few blocks off Fifth. Sit at wooden tables for a traditional Mexican breakfast (chilaquiles, huevos rancheros) and stellar juice concoctions (try the Maya energy drink, made with celery, cucumber and chaya, a leaf used by the Maya). The restaurant is conveniently attached to a small grocery store selling fresh produce, flowers, herbs and spices and those striped tote bags that are so indispensable in Mexico (and make great souvenirs).

La Cueva del Chango

Fifth Avenue is gradually extending its boundaries, and one of the first spots to open at the northern “newer” end was this jungly restaurant (the name means The Monkey’s Cave). It tends to be crammed with locals at breakfast time on weekends, so go on a weekday. A curving roof covers part of La Cueva, but you can also sit at outdoor tables beside a trickling stream where koi and turtles swim. Families take over big tables in the leafy garden, feasting on crepes and milkshakes.

Fusion Beach Bar & Grill

Sometimes the old-school places still resonate. Fusion, a Caribbean-style beach hangout, feels as if it’s been around for 25 years (in a good way). Grab a table under a beach umbrella so you can wiggle your toes in the sand while you snack on guacamole, salads, calamari and frosty cervezas. A towering palapa (palm roof) and cement floor keep the interior cool and comfortable; the long bar will have you pondering a return that evening.

Exploring Kauai for Less Kauai, Hawaii, USA

Though it covers only 550 square miles, the Hawaiian island of Kauai holds an astonishing range of visitor attractions. On the civilized side, you have both the super posh (St. Regis Princeville) and the deliciously humble (Fish Express in Lihue). Among the island’s natural wonders, the Na Pali Coast takes first place, with its sheer cliffs, plunging canyon and pristine beaches. But stunning beaches abound on the Garden Island, and like many beauty spots, they’re free and easily accessible. So a killer Kauai vacation can be downright affordable—even with a few splurges. All you need is a rental car, your own two sandal-clad feet and some directions. We’ve got the last part covered.

Soft Landing in Poipu

The tried-and-true Kauai vacation plan is to start in the reliably sunny Poipu area, just south of the airport in Lihue. Family-friendly Poipu Beach offers great reef snorkeling and picnic tables. If you’re looking for more privacy and a sandier bottom, head to the beach between the Sheraton and the Koa Kea, a stylish new boutique hotel. Then make the short drive west along the coast to see the area’s prime natural wonder: Spouting Horn geyser, where ocean waves regularly send majestic plumes of water 30 feet into the air. Across the street you’ll find the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Its manicured Allerton Gardens require a pricey guided tour, so opt for the wilder McBryde Gardens, where visitors can ramble at their leisure amid 252 acres of exotic tropical flora.

If shopping is more your thing, a three-mile drive inland will bring you to the former sugar mill town of Koloa. The main street’s plantation-style buildings have been converted into gift shops, art galleries, inexpensive eateries, even a wine shop.

Continue west along the south shore, where the crowds thin out and the terrain turns crimson. Adjust your wardrobe accordingly by picking up a dirt-dyed T-shirt at the Original Red Dirt Shirt Factory in Port Allen. Then cool off with a swim at Salt Pond Beach, a protected pocket beach past Burns Airfield. An inland detour brings you to the Waimea Canyon Lookout, where you can drink in the views of this 3,600-foot-deep, 10-mile-long gash in Kauai’s iron-rich earth.

EXPERIENCES OF A LIFETIME

Creating Cherished Memories Everywhere!

Our Experiences of a Lifetime Program is one of the most popular benefits Capital Vacations has introduced to The Club. Its versatile offerings and valuable memory-making potential have made it a favorite among members!

Recently, we attended an Experiences of a Lifetime Event in Myrtle Beach and asked a few participants what they enjoyed about it. Here’s what they had to say:

“This was great! I thought the food was just enough. I loved the blackjack game. Our dealer was very personable. The entertainment was good, and the music kept the energy going. I also thought the variety of drinks suited my taste. You guys did an excellent job!”

“We had a great time; it was very nice. The music was great.”

“The food was good, and the whole experience was even better than I thought it would be!”

This event was a Valentine’s Day themed dinner with a Vegas-Style Blackjack Game where owners could win tickets for prizes. There was a full buffet, open bar, a band, and a DJ. Our local event planner took to the microphone to bring humor and warmth to the crowd, orchestrating a wonderful evening filled with fun and laughter.

We offer many different styles of these curated experiences in multiple locations: Branson, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Cape Cod, Pigeon Forge, St. Thomas, and even on the open sea with our Guided Cruises! Each location offers its own flavor of menus, activities, and memories like baseball games, great local shows, boat rides, concerts, and more.

Ready to experience an upcoming event for yourself?

We have a lot of fun planned!

Imagine yourself savoring a delicious meal while enjoying live music, or feeling the thrill of winning at a blackjack table. Picture the joy of exploring new places and making new friends, all while creating memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re cruising the open sea or attending a local event, our Experiences of a Lifetime Program promises excitement, warmth, and unforgettable moments.

Join us and discover why our members love these events. We can’t wait to create more cherished memories with you!
