TANKED UP AND READY TO ROCK! TERRATANK REINFORCES ITS FLEET WITH FRESH FLOW OF VOLVO

A

ndover-based Terratank has turned for the first time to Volvo Trucks, acquiring two FH Aero 500 6x2 tractor units. The trucks replace older assets in the business’s fleet, with Volvo selected due to driver preference. Nigel East, procurement and compliance, Terratank, said: “The decision to move to Volvo was based on careful analysis and the trucks have fully lived up to expectations. Strong fuel returns, solid build quality and positive feedback from the drivers have reinforced that we made the right choice.” The new trucks have been specified to unlock outstanding fuel efficiency on long-haul operations, benefitting from Volvo’s D13KTC engine, which delivers increased efficiency along with 300Nm of additional torque, for a peak torque of 2,600Nm. Working in combination with the truck’s I-See predictive cruise control, this engine makes it possible to tackle hills and gradients in a higher gear – saving fuel without losing speed and providing a smoother ride. Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated gearboxes also

improves efficiency by analysing factors such as speed, weight, road grade, and torque demand, enabling the transmission to perfectly time every shift. The exterior mirrors have been replaced by Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS), helping to boost aerodynamic performance. The system increases the driver’s field of view, and when driving with a trailer, CMS deploys autopanning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns. CMS also performs strongly in rainy and dark conditions, in direct sunlight, and even when driving in tunnels. The inclusion of a tag axle in the specification was particularly important for Terratank, with the selection benefitting manoeuvrability, reduced tyre wear, and improved fuel efficiency. Spacious Globetrotter cabs have been kitted out for the customer, with Terratank opting for creature comforts including dual armrests, leather upholstery, electric air conditioning with a carbon filter and sun, mist and air quality sensors, tinted glass roof hatch, plus a microwave and a fridge/freezer.

SCANIA IS BUILDING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

INSIDE TRUCK MAKER’S FUTURE-READY STOCKTON SERVICE CENTRE

T

he commercial vehicle industry is entering a period of unprecedented change. Diesel will remain the backbone of long-haul transport for years to come, but alongside it are growing numbers of gas-powered trucks and the first wave of battery electric vehicles. For manufacturers, developing the vehicles is only half the challenge. Building a service network capable of maintaining them all is the bigger task. Scania believes the answer lies in investment – and nowhere is that more evident than at its new Stockton-onTees branch. Replacing the company’s Darlington operation after more than four decades of service, the new facility represents more than a change of address. Situated in the heart of Teesside’s industrial landscape, where heavy trucks serve the

region’s ports, steelworks, chemical plants and energy industries around the clock, Stockton has been designed as one of the most advanced service centres in Scania’s UK network. Initially employing 34 people, with plans to increase that to around 40, the workshop has been designed to support every powertrain Scania currently offers. Whether customers operate diesel, gas or battery electric vehicles, the aim is the same: minimise downtime while providing technicians with the tools and environment needed to work efficiently and safely. A dedicated gas vehicle service bay has been incorporated from day one, complete with the specialist ventilation, gas detection and safety systems required to maintain compressed and liquefied gas-powered trucks safely.

“

The majority of our drawbar vehicles are consistently averaging 7.5mpg, and that’s while running with full payloads almost all the time. On the drawbars, we’re routinely hitting 26-tonnes. It’s a brick-and-block operation, so the trucks are always fully laden, and it’s tough work. With our newest models, we’re seeing an economy improvement of around 6% – getting close to 8.0mpg.

TRAFFIC POLICE NUMBERS FALL TO A NEW LOW

SAFETY CAMPAIGNERS DEMAND MORE COPS TO TACKLE WAVE OF MOTORING CRIMES

F

resh safety concerns have been raised with news that new Home Office figures show the number of dedicated traffic police officers in England and Wales has fallen again. The number of dedicated traffic officers has plummeted by 25% over the past decade. The latest Police Workforce statistics show there are now 3,765 officers working in Traffic Units across the 43 police forces in England and Wales, down from 3,889 a year earlier. Ten years ago, there were 5,005 dedicated traffic officers – meaning numbers have now fallen by 25% over the past decade. The figures come as ministers consider changes

Fewer traffic police are being deployed on Britain’s roads to drink-drive laws, including reducing the legal alcohol limit in England and Wales, as part of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy. Road safety campaigners say any change in the law will have

limited impact unless there are sufficient specialist officers to enforce it. Separate Home Office figures published earlier this year showed roadside breath testing has also plummeted

over the past decade. Hunter Abbott, managing director of breathalyser firm AlcoSense Laboratories, said: “Changing the law is one thing. Enforcing it is another. If ministers decide to lower the drink-drive limit, motorists need to believe there is a realistic chance of being stopped and tested. “Unfortunately, the number of dedicated roads policing officers has been moving in the opposite direction for years. The risk is that tougher laws become largely symbolic if the resources needed to enforce them continue to decline.” The AA warned that a shrinking roads police force is letting millions of drivers escape punishment.

CASH FOR CRASH SCAMMERS SHIFT THEIR TACTICS PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS DITCHED IN FAVOUR OF INFLATED REPAIR AND STORAGE COSTS

C

rash for cash scams are just one of the daily nightmares that truck drivers face. Now it appears that organised criminal gangs across the UK are shifting their tactics to exploit vehicle repair and storage costs, moving away from personal injury fraud following recent legal reforms. They use dangerous tactics such as sharp braking, roundabout manipulation and fake witnesses to stage collisions. Specialist police units and road safety experts at dashcam firm Nextbase have issued urgent warnings as new data reveals the staggering scale of the issue. According to the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED), a specialist unit within the City of London Police, officers received 282 crash-forcash referrals between 2021 and 2025. The total insurer-reported value of these cases exceeded £25.3m. Industry experts note that legal reforms have made exaggerated personal injury claims far less profitable for fraudsters. In response, criminal networks are now artificially inflating the costs of vehicle

recovery, storage and replacement car hire to maintain their illicit profits. Data analysis shows that almost half (48%) of the reported cases were deliberately staged, representing more than £13.3m in suspected fraud. The remaining referrals comprised 77 induced collisions, valued at more than £7.3m, along with 70 contrived incidents worth almost £4.7m. IFED warned that organised gangs continue to stage collisions by braking sharply, manipulating junctions and

IF THERE IS NO INDEPENDENT EVIDENCE, DRIVERS WILL FIND IT DIFFICULT TO PROVE THEIR INNOCENCE roundabouts, exploiting blind spots with motorcycles or mopeds and using fake witnesses. Victims may also be pressured to admit liability, make payments or allow their driving licence to be photographed at the roadside.

Because many of these incidents occur in seconds and involve conflicting accounts, independent video evidence can play an important role in helping insurers and police establish what happened. Bryn Brooker, head of road safety at Nextbase, said: “Crash-for-cash scams rely on uncertainty. If there is no independent evidence, drivers will find it difficult to prove their innocence for an incident that happened in a matter of seconds. “Video footage has been proven to help by providing an impartial and irrefutable record of events. That’s why we always encourage drivers to keep any footage after a collision and share it with their insurer or police if requested.” To help motorists share that evidence, Nextbase developed the National Dash Cam Safety Portal (NDCSP) in 2018, which enables drivers to submit video footage directly to the relevant police force. More than 60,000 submissions were made through the portal by the public in 2025, up 22% year-on-year, demonstrating the increasing role motorists are playing in supporting police investigations. With an estimated 197 years of police time saved, the NDCSP has become a vital tool in modern traffic enforcement. Detective Chief Inspector Nik Jethwa, head of IFED, said: “Crash-for-cash fraud is a growing problem and criminals are becoming more aggressive in how they carry out these schemes. We want the public to be more aware than ever of the tactics being used, which put innocent road users at risk. Please take extra care at difficult junctions and roundabouts and follow our safety advice if you suspect something is wrong. “There is also a real risk of identity theft, so consider the potential consequences if you are involved in a collision. IFED will continue to pursue those who exploit vulnerable people. We are working with Nextbase to amplify this message and to highlight one of the simplest ways to protect yourself: consider getting a dashcam.”

BETTER FACILITIES ARE NOT SIMPLY A CONVENIENCE; THEY’RE ESSENTIAL FOR SAFETY, WELLBEING AND OPERATIONAL RESILIENCE

TRUCKERS SUFFER OVER POOR FACILITIES

MORE THAN HALF SAY THEY ARE OFTEN LEFT TO CAMP OUT IN LAY-BYS AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS

I

f you are constantly moaning about the quality of roadside facilities as you drive about the country, then you are not alone. According to a study by independent watchdog Transport Focus, more than half of UK truckers agree with you totally. Among the findings were a clear relationship between security and driver wellbeing, with drivers who rated site security poorly significantly less likely to get a good night’s sleep. In addition, a lack of truck parking capacity was said to often leave drivers resorting to lay-by or industrial estate parking – locations without security arrangements. Transport Focus said one of the biggest challenges in solving the problems was the planning system, which it said continued to limit the development and expansion of truck parking facilities. It wants to see planning processes that better recognised the needs of freight and supported longterm investment in roadside infrastructure. Not enough sites Katherine McGowan Downey, senior engagement manager at Transport Focus, said: “There are some really great sites out

facilities, but added that maintaining momentum was essential. She added: “We need all lorry drivers to have access to safe, good-quality facilities wherever they need to stop. That means investment, better planning, stronger collaboration and continuing to raise the profile of these issues so they remain a priority.”

there, but there simply aren’t enough of them and there isn’t enough consistency. Drivers stop multiple times every day, so having access to safe, secure and goodquality facilities is fundamental. “As a safety-critical profession, drivers need proper rest. If they don’t feel secure where they’re parked, it impacts their ability to sleep, which ultimately affects everyone using the road network. “I don’t think one organisation can solve this on its own. Government, National Highways, logistics operators and site operators all need to work together. It also needs greater political attention to help address some of the long-term barriers.” Katherine said that recent Government investment had begun to improve some

Essential needs Matthew Bellamy, managing director at SNAP, said: “Professional drivers keep the UK supplied every single day, yet too many are still struggling to find safe, secure places to stop. “Katherine’s insights reinforce what drivers have been telling the industry for years. Better facilities are not simply a convenience; they’re essential for safety, wellbeing and operational resilience. “At SNAP, we’re committed to making it easier for fleets and drivers to locate, book and pay for secure truck parking across the UK and Europe. Technology has an important role to play alongside continued investment in infrastructure, helping drivers access trusted facilities while supporting operators in planning safer, more efficient journeys.”

VOLVO REINVENTS THE 13-LITRE ENGINE FOR THE NEXT ERA OF TRUCKING

Words: Jack Sunderland

WITH IAA TRANSPORTATION IN HANOVER FAST APPROACHING, MANUFACTURERS ARE PREPARING TO UNVEIL THE TECHNOLOGIES THAT WILL SHAPE THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

A

mong the first to show its hand is Volvo Trucks, which has revealed a comprehensive overhaul of both its combustion engine range and its electric truck line-up. The Swedish manufacturer’s latest developments make one thing abundantly clear: while electrification continues to advance, the internal combustion engine remains central to long-haul transport for many years to come. Rather than viewing diesel, gas, hydrogen and battery-electric as competing technologies, Volvo is investing across every powertrain, ensuring operators have the flexibility to choose the solution that best fits their operation.

16 | S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 6

A New Foundation At the heart of Volvo’s announcement is an all-new 13-litre engine platform, entering production in January 2027. Replacing the long-serving D13 and the outgoing 10.8-litre D11, the new engine family has been designed around a common architecture capable of supporting diesel today and hydrogen combustion in the future. The timing is significant. Euro VII emissions legislation begins arriving from 2028, while operators continue to demand lower fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions without compromising reliability or performance. Volvo says the new D13 and G13 engines are

its most fuel-efficient combustion engines to date, surpassing even the highly regarded D13 Turbo Compound engine introduced under the I-Save programme in 2019. Engineering for Efficiency Rather than relying on one breakthrough, Volvo has achieved its claimed efficiency gains through a series of engineering refinements. A completely redesigned cast-iron cylinder block and cylinder head provide greater strength while reducing weight. The stronger construction allows higher combustion pressures and compression ratios, improving both thermal efficiency and overall performance. The company’s patented wave piston technology has also evolved. Previously introduced with the turbo compound engine, the latest design incorporates dualwave piston bowls that improve combustion efficiency, delivering increased power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The G13 gas engine also benefits from wave piston technology for the first time. A new variable geometry turbocharger replaces the previous design, offering improved efficiency across a wider operating range. Ball-bearing technology and revised turbine geometry allow the system to respond more effectively under varying loads while also supporting a significantly more powerful engine brake. Braking performance now reaches 470kW at 2,300rpm—40kW more than the previous turbo compound engine and

POWER OUTPUTS NOW EXTEND TO A NEW FLAGSHIP 560HP PRODUCING 2,900NM OF TORQUE, WHILE 500HP, 460HP AND 420HP VARIANTS CONTINUE

around 130kW higher than the earlier eSCR-powered D13. Up to Four Per Cent Better Fuel Economy Volvo quotes fuel savings of up to four per cent compared with the previous non-turbo compound D13 engine. As always, those figures depend on specification and operating conditions. The comparison is based on a 500hp tractor

operating at 35 tonnes GCW and making full use of Volvo’s predictive driving technologies, including I-See GPS cruise control and I-Roll Eco Roll. The equivalent G13 gas engine is expected to deliver improvements in a similar range. Power outputs now extend to a new flagship 560hp producing 2,900Nm of torque, while 500hp, 460hp and 420hp variants continue. The FM range also gains

a new 380hp option, replacing applications previously served by the D11. Every diesel version is approved for HVO renewable diesel, while the 500hp and 460hp engines can also operate on B100 biodiesel, reflecting growing interest in renewable liquid fuels as operators seek practical carbon reduction strategies. Gas Remains an Important Option S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 6 | 17

FE ATURE

At the centre of the updated electric drivetrain sits a newly developed eightspeed gearbox designed specifically for battery-electric vehicles. Featuring powershift technology, it provides smooth acceleration and uninterrupted torque delivery while offering familiar Economy, Standard and Performance driving modes across five power ratings ranging from 300kW to 540kW.

Volvo continues to back LNG as a viable transition fuel, particularly where fleets require substantial carbon savings without moving immediately to battery-electric operation. Unlike Scania and IVECO, which use spark-ignition gas engines, Volvo’s G13 employs High Pressure Direct Injection, using a small quantity of diesel as an ignition source while the engine itself operates much like a conventional diesel. The result is a driving experience that closely mirrors diesel performance while maintaining the efficiency advantages of compression ignition. Torque has increased by as much as 300Nm across the G13 range while power outputs remain at 420hp, 460hp and 500hp. Volvo also claims that when the engine operates on BioLNG with HVO as its ignition fuel, lifecycle CO₂ emissions can be reduced by up to 100 per cent on a well-towheel basis. Perhaps more importantly, the G13 architecture forms the basis of Volvo’s future hydrogen combustion engine programme. Prototype vehicles are already undergoing road testing, with commercial introduction planned before the end of the decade. A Smarter I-Shift Supporting the new engines is an updated generation of Volvo’s I-Shift transmission. The gearbox has been strengthened to 18 | S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 6

cope with the 560hp engine’s 2,900Nm output while delivering faster gear changes and improved efficiency. New features include an integrated gearbox oil level sensor displayed within the vehicle’s pre-trip checks and a revised retarder optimised for faster rear axle ratios. Volvo has also refined its innovative I-Roll engine stop/start system. During Eco Roll operation, a newly introduced clutch disconnects the power steering pump when it is not required, reducing parasitic losses and extracting further efficiency gains. Electric Trucks Continue to Advance Volvo’s battery-electric range has also received a substantial update. The FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric now offer operating ranges of up to 470km while supporting 350kW charging, reducing charging times from 20 to 80 per cent to approximately 65 minutes. Regenerative braking efficiency has also improved by around ten per cent. A significant addition is a new electric Power Take-Off system that allows body equipment to operate while the vehicle is moving. By splitting duties between the truck’s twin electric motors, applications such as tippers can discharge while travelling slowly, while an additional transmission-mounted PTO enables equipment such as concrete mixers to operate even during charging.

Breaking the 700km Barrier The biggest headline, however, belongs to the new FH Aero Electric Extended Range. With a claimed range of up to 700km, it becomes Volvo’s longest-range batteryelectric truck to date and comfortably exceeds the 600km benchmark many operators have viewed as the threshold for viable long-distance transport. The truck supports both 700kW Megawatt Charging System (MCS) charging and conventional 350kW CCS charging. Using MCS, Volvo says charging from 20 to 80 per cent takes around 50 minutes. Achieving that range required a significant redesign beneath the chassis. Enter the E-Axle The FH Aero Extended Range is the first Volvo electric truck to adopt an e-axle. Rather than using a centrally mounted motor, the integrated drive axle combines twin electric motors with a six-speed transmission. More importantly, relocating the drivetrain frees valuable chassis space for additional batteries. Volvo has taken advantage by introducing new L-shaped battery packs providing 725kWh of usable energy. Up to eight battery packs can be installed to achieve the headline 700km range. The e-axle itself is available in 420kW and 460kW outputs and is fitted to a 6x2 tractor equipped with a 4.5-tonne tag axle. Besides maximising payload, the additional axle improves weight distribution, helping overcome one of the key challenges facing high-capacity battery-electric tractors. On the Road Driving Volvo’s latest electric models confirms just how refined heavy-duty battery-electric trucks have become. Whether behind the wheel of the FM Electric or the larger FH Aero Electric, acceleration remains effortless regardless

of load. The new transmission delivers smooth, uninterrupted power while one-pedal driving continues to provide impressive levels of vehicle control on secondary roads. On faster routes, Volvo’s Pilot Assist further reduces driver workload, reinforcing the impression that these are trucks designed not only for efficiency but also for everyday usability. Safety Still Leads the Agenda Among all the performance improvements, one of the most significant advances is almost invisible. Volvo has introduced a new side collision protection system across its updated electric range. In the event of a side impact above 30km/h, the system automatically disconnects the vehicle’s high-voltage electrical system while simultaneously applying the brakes. The technology is designed not only to protect those inside the vehicle but also emergency responders and recovery personnel attending the scene—an often overlooked but increasingly important aspect of electric vehicle safety.

an increasingly compelling route to rapid carbon reduction. Hydrogen combustion is moving steadily towards production. Battery-electric technology is extending its reach into ever longer-distance applications. Rather than betting everything on one technology, Volvo is building a portfolio that allows operators to choose the right solution for each operation. As the industry heads towards IAA Transportation, that breadth of investment may prove to be one of the manufacturer’s greatest strengths. ●

DISTRACTION – A MAJOR CAUSE OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION ON UK ROADS TRANSPORT OPERATORS WARNED ABOUT THE DANGERS FOR TRUCK AND VAN DRIVERS

D

istracted drivers were the cause of nearly a fifth of road crashes over the last year, new figures have shown. Data reveals that ‘inattention or attention diverted’ is the number one factor behind road traffic collisions, accounting for 17% of incidents recorded over the last year and leading to 119 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties. The latest findings highlight the importance of staying focused and alert behind the wheel, as even a momentary lapse in concentration can have serious consequences. Whether it is adjusting vehicle controls, reaching for a drink or managing noisy passengers, evidence shows that taking eyes off the road for just two seconds can double the risk of crashing. Mobile phone use is one of the most common distractions for drivers. Research shows drivers are four times more likely to be in a crash if they use their phone, with reaction times being up to three times slower than drink driving. A survey by CompareNI.com found that more than half of drivers (54%) say they’ve noticed an increase in other motorists using mobile phones, while some drivers admit to occasional lapses such as checking maps (10%), answering or rejecting calls (9%), checking phone notifications (3%) or changing music (2%). To help reduce the number of preventable collisions on our roads, CompareNI.com is encouraging drivers to take simple steps to minimise distractions. Ian Wilson, car insurance expert and managing director at CompareNI.com said: “While dangerous driving is often associated with speeding or driving under 20 | S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 6

the influence, data shows that distraction remains one of the biggest threats on our roads. “Drivers must always be alert and make sure they don’t let anything inside or outside the vehicle distract their attention, as taking their eyes off the road for even a couple of seconds can have devastating results. “Many accidents are preventable, and staying focused behind the wheel is one of the simplest and most effective ways that motorists can protect themselves, their passengers and other road users. “Not only that, but drivers who are convicted of careless driving will likely end up facing higher car insurance costs, as they can be viewed as higher risk by providers. Research suggests that the insurance costs could go up by as much as 26% if drivers receive six penalty points.”

If using a sat-nav, the route should always be programmed before starting a journey

TOP TIPS FOR AVOIDING DISTRACTION • Set navigation routes before driving If using a sat-nav, the route should always be programmed before starting your journey. If changes to the planned route are needed, pull over safely before making them. • Put mobile phone out of reach Turn on ‘Do Not Disturb mode before setting off or better yet, place the handset out of reach where you are not tempted to check it when driving. • Avoid eating or drinking Rule 148 of the Highway Code specifically advises drivers to avoid eating or drinking. If this causes you to become distracted and lose control of your vehicle, you could be charged with careless driving – which carries a fine of up to £5000 and up to nine penalty points. • Minimise use of in-car screens and controls Many modern trucks have touch screens rather than buttons, which can take driver’s attention away from the road for longer

than many realise. Reaction times to hazards when selecting music using in-car systems have been found to be worse than texting while driving. • Manage passenger distractions From chatty passengers to misbehaving children, having other people in the van could affect your concentration behind the wheel. It is important to set clear boundaries with your passengers so that your attention isn’t taken away from the road. S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 6 | 21

SINOTRUK TARGETS UK MARKET WITH HARRIS GROUP

CUSTOMER DELIVERIES EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN MARCH 2027

C

hinese truck giant SINOTRUK is set to enter the UK and Irish markets through a new long-term distribution agreement with Harris Group, with both diesel and battery-electric models scheduled to arrive from March 2027. The partnership will initially see the launch of Euro 6 and fully electric SITRAK 7.5-tonne trucks, before expanding into heavier distribution vehicles, multiaxle rigids and tractor units. Under the agreement, Harris Group will become the exclusive importer and distributor for SINOTRUK in the UK and Ireland, establishing a new Harris SINOTRUK operation to support the brand. The move represents a significant expansion for Harris Group, taking the 22 | S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 6

business beyond its established presence in the light commercial vehicle sector and into the medium and heavy truck markets. Customer deliveries are expected to begin in March 2027 with the SITRAK 7.5-tonner. This will be followed by 4x2 middleweight distribution models, an 8x4 rigid and ultimately a 4x2 tractor unit. Significantly for operators looking at their future decarbonisation strategies, the range will include both Euro 6 diesel and fully electric powertrains. This will allow customers to select vehicles according to individual applications, payload requirements, infrastructure availability and duty cycles rather than adopting a single powertrain approach. A nationwide dealer and aftersales network is now being developed ahead of the launch, with Harris Group investing in technical training, parts availability and support infrastructure. The arrival of another major manufacturer offering electric trucks could also increase competition within the developing UK zero-emission commercial vehicle market as operators look for greater choice and increasingly competitive wholelife costs. The agreement creates a clearer division between Harris Group’s commercial vehicle brands. MAXUS will concentrate predominantly on the light commercial vehicle market, led by its DELIVER van range, while SINOTRUK will become the group’s dedicated truck marque. As part of the restructuring, the MAXUS eDELIVER

SINOTRUK BRINGS ENORMOUS MANUFACTURING SCALE, ENGINEERING CAPABILITY AND GLOBAL EXPERIENCE 75 will be withdrawn from the UK market. Brian Patterson, CEO of Harris Group, described the agreement as a significant milestone and said the ambition extended beyond simply introducing another truck brand He said: “We are building a long-term truck business with a nationwide dealer network, strong parts availability, technical expertise and comprehensive aftersales

support from the outset. “SINOTRUK brings enormous manufacturing scale, engineering capability and global experience. Combined with Harris Group’s knowledge of the UK and Ireland commercial vehicle markets, we believe it has the potential to become a significant long-term player in both markets.” Chief operating officer Bill Laidlaw said the decision to establish SINOTRUK as a separate truck marque rather than extending MAXUS into heavier vehicles would provide greater clarity for operators and create a platform for future growth. Founded in 1956, SINOTRUK has developed into China’s largest heavy truck manufacturer and has been the country’s leading heavy truck exporter for the past 21 years. The manufacturer sold around 305,000 heavy trucks during 2025, including more than 150,000 vehicles exported to over 150 countries and regions. For Harris Group, the agreement also forms part of an ambitious expansion programme, with the company targeting annual revenues of €1 billion by 2030. For the UK market, however, the more immediate significance will be the arrival of another major global truck manufacturer prepared to offer both conventional and zero-emission vehicles — adding further choice as fleets navigate the transition away from diesel.
