NEW GAS POWERED VOLVO TRUCKS FOR UNISERVE WEBFLEET LAUNCHES NEW AI-POWERED FLEET SOLUTION

UNISERVE IS PUSHING FORWARD WITH ITS DECARBONISATION STRATEGY WITH THE ADDITION OF 10 NEW VOLVO FH AERO GASPOWERED 6X2 TRACTOR UNITS – THE FIRST TRUCKS FUELLED BY BIO-LNG (LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS) THE COMPANY HAS PUT INTO OPERATION.

The new arrivals were ordered on the back of a successful trial which proved the miles per gallon (mpg) performance of the ultra-fuelefficient Volvo FH Aero model.

Running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the new trucks will clock-up more than 300,000 km per year running between Uniserve’s depot in Chepstow to its customer in Yorkshire.

Each FH Aero delivers substantial energy consumption and emission reductions in comparison to a standard FH through a refined, streamlined design.

Additional efficiency gains are unlocked by deploying new technologies, most notably Volvo’s Camera Monitoring

System (CMS). Replacing traditional exterior mirrors, CMS increases the driver’s field of view and, when driving with a trailer, deploys auto-panning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns.

Webfleet, Bridgestone’s fleet management solution, has launched Fleet Advisor – a new AI-powered solution designed to simplify how fleet teams access and act on vital operational data.

Fleet Advisor combines generative AI with realtime fleet insights to answer business-critical questions in seconds. Initially available in the UK and Ireland, the tool enables users to type a query in natural language – such as mileage trends, idling times or fuel consumption – and receive clear, visual answers with context, suggestions and next-step recommendations. It makes it easier for any member of the fleet team, regardless of technical experience, to manage complex processes, quickly identify risks and make data-driven decisions that improve safety, efficiency and cost control.

“With Fleet Advisor, fleet decision-making becomes easier, faster and smarter,” said Jan Maarten de Vries, president of fleet management Solutions at Bridgestone. “It’s a big step toward a future where

AI acts as a co-pilot in every fleet operation – and Webfleet is proud to lead the way.”

Fleet Advisor is built on a foundation of robust data protection. It is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2017 – Europe’s most recognised information security standard – and complies with both GDPR and the AI Act. These safeguards ensure data privacy and responsible AI use, giving businesses seamless access to insight without compromising sensitive information.

At launch, Fleet Advisor is integrated with Webfleet’s OptiDrive 360, one of the world’s most comprehensive driver coaching solutions.

With generative AI now at its core, fleet managers can gain deeper insights into behaviour such as harsh braking, speeding and fuel consumption in seconds – acting as a tool to help them make targeted improvements which will enhance safety, reduce costs and cut emissions.

“Looking ahead, fleets will benefit from even smarter dashboards, intelligent benchmarking and real-time KPIs," added Jan.

TEN NEW VOLVO TRUCKS FOR HARRISON’S

Harrison’s Transport has taken delivery of 10 new Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units, with Globetrotter XL cabs and I-Park Cool to maximise driver comfort. The new arrivals replace trucks from a rival manufacturer in the Preston-based business’ immaculate fleet.

Used for temperaturecontrolled deliveries across the UK, the FH Aeros have made a solid early impression with fuel efficiency expected to improve even further as they bed in.

The new Volvo FH Aeros are equipped with Euro D13TC Step E 460hp engines, which leverage turbo compound technology to deliver an additional 300Nm of torque.

This extends the fuel economy potential by introducing an extra turbine after the turbocharger to reuse excess fuel from the exhausts, which is then converted to torque directly on the crankshaft.

The engines are driven via Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox technology,

with optimised software for long haul operations. This includes I-See predictive cruise control, which allows the driver to tackle hills and gradients in a higher gear, saving fuel without losing speed.

Harrison’s Transport has opted for Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS),

which replaces the traditional wing mirrors. Introduced with the launch of the FH Aero last year, the CMS improves aerodynamics and saves energy. The cameras open up a driver’s visual field in both good and challenging conditions, while an in-built surveillance mode lets the driver see outside the truck even when the curtains are drawn, for maximum security.

NEW FIGURES SHOW MASSIVE RISE IN DRUG DRIVING NEW BRIDGE DETECTION SYSTEM FOR DURITE

DRINK DRIVING OFFENCES IN BRITAIN FELL BY 5.8 PER CENT LAST YEAR. BUT IN THE SAME PERIOD, DRUG DRIVING OFFENCES ROSE BY 13.5 PER CENT.

This worrying new trend was highlighted by the AA, which analysed figures for the past 12 months.

Nearly 27,000 (26,924) drivers were found guilty of drugdriving last year while there were 40,477 drink driving prosecutions.

Jack Cousens, head of roads policy for the AA, said: “It is massively worrying that drug driving is becoming more prevalent. While it is good that police forces are catching and prosecuting offenders, it is of great concern that more drivers are willing to get behind the wheel under the influence of drugs.”

The biggest rise in drivers found guilty was for vehicle tax offences, with a 29.1% increase leading to more than 128,700 drivers being convicted. The most common motoring offence

taking up the courts’ time was for speeding, where 276,107 drivers sat in the dock, with 213,997 of those being found guilty.

Elsewhere, 146,831 drivers were convicted of either using (93,936) or keeping a vehicle (52,895) without valid motor insurance. A further 12,597 were punished for driving while disqualified. Also of note were the 82,810 sentenced for withholding driver details when requested, up 2.5%.

Jack added: “Drivers arguing their case in court are likely to lose.

"Overall, the figures show the harsh reality that the vast majority of drivers sat in dock are then convicted. As well as the sanction given in court, those found guilty may find it difficult and expensive to find motor insurance in the future.”

Durite has launched a new AI Low Bridge Detection System. The Durite Low Bridge Detection System uses Smart AI-powered camera technology to detect and alert over-height vehicles to the presence of low bridges and also reads safety height signage.

High Accuracy 10Hz GPS, paired with the UK low bridge database aims to provide precise location-based alerts. With the use of the vehicle’s trailer and cargo heights, the system provides accurate warnings and alerts to the driver via the connected R-Watch Display within the vehicle – giving the driver time to choose an alternative route. The system is compatible with Durite’s range of vehicle safety camera equipment.

John Nobbs, UK sales manager for Durite, said: “Heavy goods vehicle bridge strikes are a significant problem. They cause delays, disruption and potentially high cost to the operator and the rail

and road networks. With up to five bridge strikes recorded each day in the UK, Durite recognised the need to produce an advanced detection system which can significantly reduce the risk of collision for commercial vehicle operators. Our new AI Low Bridge Detection System aims to achieve this by using a combination of market-proven technology.”

According to Network Rail, there are over 1,532 bridge strikes annually, averaging one every six hours and costing the rail industry over £20 million.  GPS only systems can be ineffective in rural areas and built-up cities where large buildings lead to interference and signal loss.

John added: “We have some great products and innovations which we showed at this year’s RTX. Together, with ECCO, we are providing operators with the complete range of premium vehicle safety and lighting solutions – and all under one roof.”

ROAD SAFETY CHARITY CALLS FOR MORE 20mph SPEED LIMITS NEW VIRTUAL REALITY TRAINING LAUNCHED BY FORS

BRAKE, THE ROAD SAFETY CHARITY, IS CALLING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO LOWER DEFAULT

SPEED LIMITS ON ROADS WHERE CHILDREN TRAVEL TO AND FROM SCHOOL, AS PARENTS REPORT THAT ROADS AREN’T SAFE FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO WALK OR WHEEL TO SCHOOL.

Brake has sent a letter to future roads minister Lillian Greenwood calling for the Government to commit to introducing 20mph as the default speed limit on roads in built-up and residential areas as part of its Road Safety Strategy. With excess speed a factor in a quarter of fatal road crashes, the charity urges the minister to prioritise measures that will make children’s journeys safer.

According to new research by Brake, four-fifths (80%) of parents surveyed would like roads near their home and schools to have a speed limit of 20mph. In addition, 85% said they would like the Government to do more to make roads safer.

Of the 2,010 parents and carers of primary schoolchildren surveyed, more than half (55%) would like their children to walk or wheel to school more often, but many

say they can’t because the roads are too busy (40%), traffic moves too fast (28%) and there are no suitable crossings (14%).

Latest official figures show that 6,069 children aged 4–11 were harmed on UK roads in 2023. Of these, 28 children died and a further 1,077 suffered serious injuries. This means that, on average, more than 16 primary schoolchildren are harmed on our roads every single day.

Luca Straker, campaigns manager at Brake, said: “We all want children to be able to travel to and from school safely. But every day, more than 16 primary schoolchildren are harmed. Excess speed is a factor in about a quarter of fatal crashes – and the physics is pretty straightforward: the faster a vehicle is travelling, the harder it hits and the greater the impact."

A NEW VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) TRAINING TOOL DESIGNED TO TRANSFORM VAN AND TRUCK DRIVER EDUCATION AND IMPROVE ROAD SAFETY HAS BEEN LAUNCHED BY FORS, THE FLEET OPERATOR RECOGNITION SCHEME.

The VR technology will be used as part of the FORS Safe Driving course – an integral part of the FORS Professional training portfolio.

The solution allows drivers to experience high-risk scenarios from the safety of the classroom, eliminating real-world dangers while maintaining effective instruction.

It’s positioned as a flexible alternative to the practical on-cycle module, a key element of the Safe Driving course, and involves a comprehensive 3.5hour interactive programme covering the full spectrum of road risk management.

The VR training can be used to satisfy FORS Silver requirement for drivers to undertake Work-Related Road Risk on-cycle training within the last five years.

The module provides a full range of scenarios and perspectives.

Drivers will experience 20 different interactive scenarios – in full 360 degrees – spanning urban, rural and motorway environments, encompassing various vehicle types including vans, HGVs and also passengercarrying vehicles.

The training offers multiple perspectives, allowing drivers to experience road

surroundings from several viewpoints, including those of cyclists and pedestrians. The multi-angle approach enhances drivers’ awareness of road interactions while reinforcing safety principles.

The module uses VR headsets with crystal-clear visuals to enhance realism. Each training session synchronises video delivery across multiple headsets, allowing for group learning and consistent messaging for all participants. The module also includes an alternative online version for participants unable to use the VR headsets.

The FORS VR training module is designed to be delivered in a classroom setting, where participants remain seated throughout, ensuring a safe and controlled teaching and learning environment.

Built-in interactive discussions reinforce learning by encouraging participants to assess hazards, anticipate risks, and reflect on decision-making processes in real time.

BRITAIN TREADS A WARY PATH TOWARDS DRIVERLESS TRUCKS

A ROAD NETWORK POPULATED BY DRIVERLESS VEHICLES TRANSPORTING GOODS AND PASSENGERS BOTH ON SHORT AND LONG DISTANCES OFFERS SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL WITH COST SAVINGS, INCREASED SAFETY AND GREATER EFFICIENCY – AN ATTRACTIVE PROPOSITION FOR THE TRANSPORT SECTOR.

It is a future that moved a significant step closer with government launching the first in a series of consultations to implement the Automated Vehicles Act 2024. There was a major additional announcement for passenger transport, meanwhile, with Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander confirming that UK government will fast-track self-driving commercial pilot projects for taxi- and bus-like services on England’s roads to spring 2026.

The government’s plans to implement a regulatory framework that will enable organisations to pilot commercial self-

driving services from next year will encourage technology developers and their partners to begin designing and implementing services that meet the needs of the British public, providing competitive advantages for British businesses. Indeed, it means that next year, firms will be able to pilot small scale ‘taxi- and bus-like’ services without a safety driver for the first time – which could be available to members of the public to book via an app. Wider rollout potentially will come when the full Automated Vehicles Act becomes law from the second half of 2027.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: “Self-driving vehicles can improve transport for millions of people – providing greater choice and flexibility to get around more easily. They could add new public transport options in rural areas to boost connectivity for local communities, and improve mobility, accessibility and independence for those unable to drive.”

According to SMMT, self-driving vehicles including cars, vans, trucks, buses and taxis have the potential to deliver significant benefits to British society and the economy, delivering annual economic

benefits as high as £66 billion and an estimated additional 342,000 jobs by 2040.

The technology could also potentially save 3,900 lives and avert 60,000 serious collisions over the next 15 years, while offering a wider array of accessible mobility solutions to disabled and older people.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: “Britain’s self-driving vehicle revolution moves one step closer, with this announcement putting the country on track to reap the road safety and socioeconomic benefits this technology can deliver.

“Pilot rollout of commercial self-driving services from next year will widen public access to mobility, while the consultation will ensure the technology is deployed in a safe and responsible way. These latest measures will help Britain remain a world leader in the development and introduction of self-driving vehicles, a manifest application of AI at its finest.”

These transformational services, which are already available in some other countries, will widen the public’s access to mobility solutions. This positive move positions the UK as a hot bed for cuttingedge mobility technology, elevating our position on the world stage as a destination of choice for automotive and AI investment. Self-driving trials have already been taking place in the UK – and as far back as January 2015, with British companies Wayve and Oxa spearheading significant breakthroughs in the technology.

More recent projects, however, have included Scotland’s automated bus pilot project CAVForth, which trialled a realworld passenger transport service at AV Level 4 – meaning they had a trained safety driver onboard, but the driver didn’t touch the controls while the vehicle was in autonomous mode.

The project involved a fleet of five fully automated full-sized buses operating a scheduled passenger service across the Forth Road Bridge, carrying up to 10,000 passengers per week. The 14-mile route runs from the Ferrytoll Park and Ride in Fife, across the Forth Road Bridge Public Transport Corridor, to Edinburgh Park.

The route took in a range of infrastructure, from pedestrianised bus and train stations, mixed single carriageway roads, 50mph motorway and dedicated bus lanes. The autonomous

buses negotiate traffic light-controlled and normal roundabouts whilst integrating with live traffic.

Oxa and EV manufacturer Bradshaw EV, meanwhile, have now announced a new partnership to deliver electric automated vehicles to businesses that need on-site transportation.

Bradshaw EV’s T800 8-tonne tow tractor and the Club Car Carryall 500 utility vehicle will both be used for off-highway light logistics applications, providing automated towing capabilities for moving goods and components efficiently around airports, large manufacturing sites, distribution centres, campuses and a wide range of other environments.

Automated shuttle buses are also taking to the road at locations such as the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham and Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxford, while Belfast Harbour is now testing its new ‘Harlander’ automated shuttle bus in the city’s Titanic Quarter.

When launched, the Harlander, which uses an electric vehicle provided by manufacturer eVersum, will be the first self-driving passenger service in Northern Ireland, carrying up to nine members of the public at one time, and with a safety operator on board.

The vehicle will initially only be on the roads for testing and to enable the route to be mapped by Harlander’s systems in a project expected to take three weeks.

So, the trialling of self-driving vehicles is already a reality in the UK thanks to cuttingedge innovation – and the government announcement will only accelerate safe and successful commercial rollout on our roads. The transport sector and indeed the public must be ready for change, therefore, that could see automated vehicles become the norm rather than the exception.

HALF A BILLION POUNDS FOR NEW HYDROGEN NETWORK

GOVERNMENT SEES NEW ROAD TO NET ZERO FOR TRUCKS AND VANS

The Government has earmarked £500m to build a hydrogen infrastructure in Britain. The new funding will create the UK’s first regional hydrogen transport and storage network, connecting hydrogen producers with vital end users, including power stations and industry for the first time.

The major infrastructure funding will help deliver clean energy and create thousands of skilled jobs in industrial regions such as Merseyside, Teesside and the Humber, as well as in the supply chain.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said the funding would unlock hydrogen’s unique role in Britain’s energy system, where it can decarbonise industrial sectors including heavy transport. It will also provide long-term energy storage that can be deployed during peak demand periods and will reduce reliance on volatile international fossil fuel markets.

Energy secretary Ed Miliband said: “We are investing over half a billion pounds in our industrial heartlands to deliver jobs and energy security for Britain. By building hydrogen networks, we are securing homegrown energy that will power British industry for generations to come. This will bring in the investment needed across the country to deliver our Plan for Change by unlocking clean energy and growth in our local economies.”

Emma Guthrie, CEO of the Hydrogen Energy Association, said: “This announcement is a key piece of the puzzle and represents very welcome government support to galvanise the UK’s regional hydrogen hubs. By investing in transport and storage infrastructure, the Government is rightly joining the dots, connecting already supported hydrogen

production with end users across power and industry.”

The news comes after industry experts questioned the push towards electric power against other zero emission alternatives, especially in the heavy truck sector.

Software specialist Fleetcheck recently joined the discussion, urging the powers that be to provide a proper hydrogen refuelling infrastructure or risk being left behind in the race to net zero. The EU has already promised at least one hydrogen refuelling site for each 120 miles of major road by 2030. But as yet there is no such infrastructure at all in Britain.

Danger ahead

Peter Golding, CEO of FleetCheck, said: “We’re in a situation where an almost complete absence of infrastructure means we’re in danger of being left behind when

it comes to hydrogen, even though there seems to be general agreement among fleets that it has a definite role to play in the future.

“It’s widely recognised, for example, that adoption of electric vans is much slower than originally anticipated and, as yet, there are no real answers to the problems that some fleets are experiencing in operational terms.

“There is already a potentially viable zero emissions alternative in the shape of Vauxhall’s new hydrogen van, which offers 250 miles of range and five-minute refuelling. However, unless you can afford to bunker fuel, it’s not a practical proposition owing to the lack of stations.”

The UK currently has 16 hydrogen filling stations nationwide, while the Netherlands alone has 14, despite being a significantly smaller country.

Peter said: “It seems obvious to operators that some fuel choices are more suitable for certain applications but the UK government approach appears to be almost entirely centred on battery electric vehicles, simply because they are available here and now.

“With the recent changes made to the ZEV Mandate providing some more breathing space for the motor industry, one of the potential beneficiaries could be the hydrogen sector, with an investment made in infrastructure. UK fleets should be calling for this to happen.”

TRUCK BUYERS GET FRESH HELP IN MOVING TO ELECTRIC VEHICLES

THE RANGE OF SERVICES OFFERED BY DAIMLER TRUCK NOW INCLUDES TRUCKCHARGE, A CONSULTANCY SERVICE PROVIDING FREE ADVICE AND SUPPORT TO HELP CUSTOMERS TRANSITION TO ELECTRIC HGVS, SUCH AS THE EACTROS, WHICH WAS VOTED INTERNATIONAL TRUCK OF THE YEAR 2025.

Ibrahim Kraria, eConsultancy Manager, Daimler Truck UK, said: “As every depot and business is different, we’ve introduced TruckCharge to demonstrate to customers how to overcome any perceived obstacles to running electric trucks. For example, we can help them decide the infrastructure required for their current and future eHGV truck requirements and give a clear analysis of the costs and benefits they should consider.”

The service looks at three areas –initial consultation, infrastructure and operations. This generates a range of information, including insights on transformation strategies to achieve decarbonisation and ESG targets, plus route and cost analysis (including potential subsidies, grants or tax breaks) and practical operational functions such as digital charging management and payments with the Mercedes ServiceCard.

Vital EV, a provider of ultra-rapid DC charging solutions, has been appointed as an official TruckCharge partner for installations and ongoing maintenance and support 24/7, 365 days a year.

Anna Eyre, brand and content manager at Vital EV, commented: “We are delighted to announce Vital EV have been appointed as an official EV charging partner, supporting Daimler Truck UK with our expertise in turnkey rapid and ultra-rapid charging solutions and a speciality in high power charging infrastructures.”

EV charging solutions, ranging from design and installation to ongoing support and maintenance. Its in-house clean energy experts can seamlessly integrate both solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to mitigate grid constraints, ensuring resilient and scalable infrastructure. “Appointing Vital EV to support Daimler Truck UK shows our commitment to provide expert advice and support and deliver reliable, high-performance truck charging. DAF MARKS 30-YEARS AT THE TOP WITH ‘UK30 SPECIAL EDITION’ XG+

DAF TRUCKS CELEBRATED AN EXTRAORDINARY MILESTONE AT RTX ’25 IN STONELEIGH WITH THE UNVEILING OF A STRIKING NEW FLAGSHIP ‘UK30 SPECIAL EDITION’ XG+ 530 MODEL, MARKING 30 YEARS AS THE UK’S NUMBER ONE TRUCK BRAND.

Finished in exclusive metallic green paint and adorned with Union Flag accents, the limited run was revealed on the opening day of the show.

The anniversary edition truck also pays homage to DAF’s enduring legacy of manufacturing in the UK, where DAF vehicles for the domestic market, including the UK30 Special Edition truck, are built at Leyland Trucks in Lancashire. Reflecting this proud heritage, the upper bunk in the cab features a bold Union Flag graphic, while inside features premium touches including unique Xtra leather air seats and upper bunk – setting it apart as a true collector’s piece with functional appeal.

Only 30 of the commemorative XG+ model will be built which, DAF believes, will signal a rush to place orders for the exclusive new truck. Customers can select from four tractor configurations:

• FTS 6x2 with twin-wheeled tag axle

• FTG 6x2 twin-steer/pusher

• FTN 6x2 rear-steer

• FT 4x2

Initial customer interest has been strong, with several loyal DAF operators staking their claim before seeing the truck. The remaining production slots – for delivery later in 2025 – are expected to be taken quickly following the vehicle’s public debut at RTX.

“We’re excited to be presenting this beautiful truck at such a significant moment in the history of DAF Trucks in the UK,” said marketing manager, Phil Moon.

“The UK30 Special Edition unit represents the very pinnacle of the New Generation DAF range, with an exclusive touch which will have huge appeal for the discerning truck driver. We’ve maintained market leadership for 30-years, representing an astonishing achievement for any vehicle manufacturer, and it brings us great pride in being able to mark the occasion with this ultra-special truck.”

THE SNOOPER BRIDGESAVER: THE GAME-CHANGER EVERY FLEET MANAGER NEEDS

EVERY TRANSPORT MANAGER KNOWS A SINGLE BRIDGE STRIKE CAN DO FAR MORE DAMAGE THAN JUST WRECKING A VEHICLE.

It can tarnish your reputation, disrupt delivery schedules, trigger costly insurance claims and incur hefty penalties. Yet in the UK alone, over 1,500 bridge strikes occur every year, often caused by something as simple as a driver forgetting how much clearance is lost when a vehicle is fully loaded or travelling over resurfaced roads. The Snooper BridgeSaver has been designed to eliminate that risk once and for all.

BridgeSaver is the first dedicated lowbridge alert system engineered specifically for professional drivers. It combines Snooper’s award-winning Truckmate navigation platform with intelligent vehicle profiling that considers the height, weight and length of your loaded vehicle. Unlike generic sat-navs or outdated paper charts, BridgeSaver provides clear visual and audible warnings long before the driver reaches a low bridge, giving ample time to slow down or re-route safely.

One of the most common causes of bridge strikes is failing to account for changes in load height. A fully loaded lorry often sits several centimetres lower on its suspension, reducing the clearance beneath a bridge. Resurfaced roads can further eat into that margin. BridgeSaver solves this problem by allowing drivers to quickly update their vehicle height and weight before each journey, so the alerts and routes remain accurate every time.

With a bright, easy-to-use 5in touchscreen and full UK and European mapping preloaded, BridgeSaver supports both local and cross-border operations. Whether your fleet is delivering across the Midlands or

heading down to Dover, drivers can trust they have a reliable safety net that never relies on guesswork.

Already, over 10,000 professional drivers rely on BridgeSaver to keep their operations running smoothly. Many large fleets report that bridge strikes have dropped to zero since fitting the system, saving thousands in insurance excesses, vehicle downtime and brand damage.

Frequently asked questions:

• How much does BridgeSaver cost?

Just £200. When you compare that to the cost of a single bridge strike – often running into

tens of thousands – it’s an investment that pays for itself many times over.

• Is installation complicated?

Not at all. Most units can be installed in under an hour and our dedicated support team is ready to help.

BridgeSaver isn’t just another gadget. It’s the simplest, most cost-effective way to protect your fleet and your reputation.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

Search Impex has launched a 1:50 scale Volvo FH XL 25 Year Special Edition (6x2) truck with fridge trailer, customised in the new livery of Northern Ireland based operator Adams Transport. The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated Limited Edition (175 pieces).

Adams Transport took delivery of the Volvo FH 25 Year Special Edition (the first to be ordered by a Volvo customer) to commemorate the life of John Adams’ late wife, Gillian Marie, who passed away in 2015.  The unique new 25 Year Edition flagship truck is especially poignant to John, as 2019 would also have seen the couple’s 25th wedding anniversary.

Based in the village of Armoy, Co Antrim, Adams Transport was established

in 2007 by John Adams.  With a passion for trucks from an early age, John had been driving rigid trucks since he was first legally able to do so and he quickly moved onto driving artics from the age of 21.  After some years of driving for other companies, however, John found he was increasingly spending extended periods away from his wife and young family and so he began to think of ways of changing his lifestyle so he could spend more time with his family. With a view, therefore, to taking back control, he made the decision to set up on his own – and so Adams Transport was born.

With the exception of the new flagship Volvo, the other trucks in the fleet run in Adams Transport’s smart corporate red livery. Thus far, fridge trailers have

usually been plain, with livery applied just to the back doors – but all of that may soon be changing!  The arrival of the new Volvo also led to a rethink about corporate branding and this resulted in a decision to design a smart new trailer livery.  The first fridge trailer in the new design will be arriving in the fleet very soon – so keep an eye out for it!  When coupled with the Volvo 25 Years Special Edition truck, it will certainly make for a very classy combination.

Models, available from Search Impex, are priced at £171 each (including UK delivery & VAT).  For details of availability of this and other models, collectors can visit the Search Impex website at search-impex.co.uk

RENAULT DAZZLES AT RTX

RENAULT TRUCKS SHOWCASED ITS FUTURE-FOCUSED LINE-UP AT THIS YEAR’S ROAD TRANSPORT EXPO

The stand also featured vehicles from across Renault Trucks’ diesel and electric ranges, demonstrating the breadth and depth of a portfolio that spans every application, from long haul and regional distribution to heavy haulage, construction and urban delivery.

Visitors got a look at the latest evolution of the Renault Trucks T, redesigned for Model Year 2025. On display was a 44-tonne T480 6x2 in distinctive orange paintwork, featuring Turbo Compound technology that offers up to 10% fuel savings and corresponding CO2 reductions. Featuring enhancements that reduce fuel consumption by up to a further 3%,

the T – awarded a 4-star safety rating by Euro NCAP – offers improved energy performance, upgraded safety features and greater driving comfort, helping operators boost productivity while lowering environmental impact.

Rear Digital Vision cameras in place of rear-view mirrors, housed in folding wings, are connected to two in-cab screens that display the environment around the vehicle, with a further infrared mode to facilitate night vision.

Safety is further reinforced by the Active Lane Keeping system, which automatically corrects unintentional lane departures and improves blind spot protection, helping

safeguard vulnerable road users. The optional automatic high beam adjusts to weather, light conditions, and surrounding traffic, complementing the standard-fit automatic low beam from the previous generation. Power comes from Renault Trucks’ efficient six cylinder in-line diesel engine that delivers maximum power of 360 kW from 1250 to 1600 rpm, and maximum torque of 2700 from 900 to 1250 rpm, which is connected to an Optidriver AT 2812 gearbox with automatic clutch.

The Model Year 2025 range is also available with a fully electric driveline, as part of the widest all-electric range in Europe.
