Be the Light We asked our 4th & 5th grade students what it meant to Be The Light
(our 2019-20 school theme)—here are some of their illumined responses:
Liv A. (4th) To me “be the light” means to share love with others. But in order to “ be the light” you need to know what darkness is. Darkness is sin, sin created the fall. The fall brings us down, but we can bring each other up by being the light. But how can we “be the light”? For example I can “be the light” to Mrs. Gilbert; when her dad died, there was darkness. I can “be the light” by giving her a hug and saying, “Good morning, Mrs. Gilbert.” Case D. (4th) When you are on the bus throwing trash out the window that is NOT being the light. Christ is a good example of being the light. It means no lying and no throwing trash out the window.
Reid S. (4th) What I think be the light means to me is showing the fruit of the spirit to others. There are billions upon billions of ways to show being the light. You can teach people about God, be kind, and show love the way Jesus would.
Addison K. (5th)
Zane H. (4th) Be the light means to me to have kindness, and to have a faithful heart; to be nice, forgive, and to tell people about Jesus.
Whether they’re a close friend, or a stranger, show them love, kindness, and compassion. That’s what ‘Being the Light’ means to me... the way Jesus would in sports, school, home and other places.

Love everyone and shine with words and shine with everything you do. Leah W. (5th)
Everywhere we go and everything we say, people can see the love of God in us. It means even when someone who doesn’t know God can see we have something special in us. And that we should shine wherever we go.
Be the Light means shining God’s love on others, pouring God’s love on others. Marie V.R. (5th)
We should love each other. Love can be as big as standing up for someone, or something small, such as sharing a dessert with a friend at lunch. Being like Jesus pretty much sums it up. :) 11
