Charlotte Flight
Charlotte Flight DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create an original sports team that included the team’s branding, wayfinding signage proposal, and a multi-page website. DESIGN BRIEF: The concept for the team name is to honor the history of North Carolina. The name and team logo reflect the historic accomplishment of the first manned flight in North Carolina and its state slogan “First in Flight”. The color palette is gold and maroon. The gold symbolizes the first discovery of gold in the United States in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Maroon is used to evoke a sense of passion and excitement for the team. The wayfinding signage for the proposal was designed to pay tribute to aviation. The signage resembles items that you might see around the aviation world. The proposal includes signs that would be displayed throughout the stadium. The multi-page website includes organizational entry points such as: Home, About the Team, Schedule, Shop, Style Guide, and Tickets Purchase. The website has a cohesive design that accentuates the team’s branding. User experience was a focus of the website to ensure that when fans visit the website, it is easy for them to navigate.

Red Hawk Red
Red Hawk Red DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of the Red Hawk Red project, developed in a team setting, was to create a wine label and packaging design for a co-branded wine produced by Catawba Farms in partnership with The Alumni Association of Catawba Valley Community College. The design needed to follow both the organization’s branding guidelines, and meet the requirements set by The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau. My partner for this project was Brandy Grigg of Brandelle Designs. DESIGN BRIEF: The design of the label was conceptualized in a way that embodies the collaboration between the Alumni Association and Catawba Farms. The development signifies multiple points of unification by the establishment and the institution. In the illustration, the intertwining vines emphasize movement. The packaging was designed to complement the label and to share the vision of the unique venture in the Catawba Valley. The team’s decisions for the packaging attempted to address current marketing trends as well as augment the perceived quality of the product with an elegant and impressive branding of sophistication. To stay current, we chose to use a matte black packaging with a raised spot UV finish on the bag, and the single bottle box. The gift set included the label illustration on the front and on the interior of the box, allowing customers to find the label illustration on the inner lid and surface design on the back of the box. The design was selected as the winning design and put into production to be sold by Catawba Farms.

Allestin
Allestin DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create an identity for a fictional pharmaceutical medication. The fictional company named Allestin provides a weight-loss prescription medication. The project included branding, package design, trade-show booths, merchandise, and digital animations that could be used as advertisements. DESIGN BRIEF: Allestin was designed with a corporate identity in mind. The logo was designed using negative space with the A from Allestin. The negative space reveals a smaller triangle which is the shape of what the medication would physically look like. The color palette utilizes purple, orange, and green. The colors were chosen to help provide elegance and evoke an emotional response. The packaging was designed to stand out on a retail shelf, while still maintaining readability. The trade-show booths were designed to attract medical professionals to the booth and inform them about the medication. The booths utilized patterns and a cohesive look throughout the design. The trade-show booths are 1:10 scale models of the actual booth size.

Out Loud Audible Smart Alerts
Out Loud DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create an original concept for a new mobile application. The application was taken from concept to prototype in Adobe XD. The final designs were presented in a Shark Tank style presentation where additional print collateral was distributed. DESIGN BRIEF: Out Loud Audible Smart Alerts was created after research indicated that this app fulfills a need within the market. Before developing the app, the project started with ideation, storyboards, and wire-frames. After the ideation stage, the concept was taken into Adobe XD where the interface design of the app started. After developing the app, a round of user testing was organized where participants were asked to complete a survey based on their experience using the app. Based on the survey results, revisions were made to the app to address the weaknesses noted in the surveys. For the presentation, I produced a multi-page booklet that displayed key components of the design process. Interested individuals may try the app for free at bit.ly/outloudapp

NYC Street Art Guide
NYC Street Art Guide DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create a brochure, branded swag, and a mobile app poster for a tourism company offering self-guided tours. DESIGN BRIEF: My concept was NYC street art and showcasing twelve locations that include the artist’s name and artwork title. The brochure was created as a tri-fold brochure that could be used for the self-guided walking tour around lower Manhattan. The design of the brochure includes photography taken by me while in NYC. The typography and color palette pay homage to the NYC subway. The linework helps build visual interest and helps the images stand out. I placed an image of street art in the background and lowered the opacity to give the brochure a textured look. Included in the brochure is a map with a number key. The numbers represent where the artwork is located. The description includes the artist name, artwork title and the address of where it is located. The branded swag incorporates the same street art image used in the background of the brochure and the name of the guide. The poster was designed to help inform people about the NYC Street Art Guide’s app. The poster incorporates the same elements from the brochure and swag to stay consistent with the branding. The poster gives information about the guide, features of the app, and how to download the app.

Mustard’s Last Stand
Mustard’s Last Stand DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create branding, menu, and packaging for a company in the food industry. The company started as a food truck and expanded to a storefront. DESIGN BRIEF: The brand that was created, is based on Chicago style hot dogs and Chicago sports. From the logo to the menu item names, the products are related to Chicago tastes. The branding was created using red and yellow, which are the colors for the classic ketchup and mustard that are favorite condiments for hot dogs. Red also associates with emotional response and passion. Research says that when the color red and yellow appear together, people become hungry. The menu item names are playful and fun, which help attract all ages. Each name was created to connect to its Chicago roots. All of the item names were created during the design process of the menu. The packaging was created to be interesting, and unique while incorporating the branding and style. The pattern helps customers recall the experience of eating hot dogs while attending baseball games.

Lauren Daigle
Lauren Daigle DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create a photo composite, a vinyl cover, a t-shirt, a lanyard, and a bracelet. All aspects of the project were created for an artist named Lauren Daigle. DESIGN BRIEF: The concept for the photo composite is to represent how everything can seem calm, but inside someone can have internal chaos or self-doubt. Included on the composite is linework with geometric shapes to give visual interest and incorporate shapes that resemble a branded mark for the artist. The vinyl cover has the photo composite with the album and artist’s name incorporated. The t-shirt was designed to be a retail item that could be sold during her tour, or on her website. Some of the lyrics from the song, “Look up child” were used and are meant to inspire others. The lanyard and bracelet were designed to be used whenever someone has backstage or media access. The lanyard could also be sold as a retail item during her tour or on her website.

CMYK: 0:100:65:15 RGB: 206,17,65 HEX: #ce1141
PracTac DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create a logo from a graphically reduced item. The logo and brand were expanded to create a surface design identity set, and packaging for an original company. DESIGN BRIEF: My graphically reduced item was a tactical flashlight. After reducing it to a basic sketch, the sketch was taken and used to create a logo. Based on my item, I decided to name my company PracTac, which is short for practical tactical. The typography and color palettes help to give the brand an industrial look.
CMYK: 30:0:0:100 RGB: 6,25,34 HEX: #061922
The surface design was created using the brand colors and repetition of the mark from the logo. The surface design was used on the identity set and packaging. The identity set consists of a business card and letterhead. Both were designed to feel industrial and minimalist. Both designs utilize surface design and are styled to match the company branding. The packaging was created to utilize the branding as well as the surface design. The package includes the features of the product as well as contents that are included inside.

Pineapple Fountain
Pineapple Fountain DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create a painting inspired by a famous artist and the artist’s distinctive style. DESIGN BRIEF: The painting that I created was inspired by Andy Warhol. I used a photo that I took at Waterfront Park in Charleston, South Carolina. With my painting, I recreated the style of pop art, which Andy Warhol was known for. I used acrylic paint on canvas as the medium.
