Mt. Olive Pickle Festival Rebrand Design Objective: This project started with the goal of rebranding and redesigning an existing logo.

Design Brief: The logo here takes a more visual route than the existing Mt. Olive Pickle Festival logo. This is done by including a pickle mascot. This was to appeal to the target audience of the festival, which was primarily families and children. The pickle fits perfectly within the letter “O” in “Olive” and features an implied face by using the natural pickle shape to form the nose. The pickle mascot also has big white gloves to create a cartoon-like appeal. The mascot serves well as a secondary logo, which is featured on advertising and other collateral, such as wayfinding signage, banners, and other items like screen-printed t-shirts.

Magazine Layout Design Objective: This project’s goal was to write an artical, create a magazine layout, and design the cover .

Design Brief: Starting with the cover, it portrays what most people think of when they hear the words “Artificial Intelligence.” Something that cannot be trusted and is slowly taking over. The cover depicts a levitating robot, with space and stars above it. The layout itself is very visually driven and helps to illustrate points made within the written article. The layout is also interactive when accessed digitally, including a hyperlink to a full copy of the sidebar article in the last spread. The reality is, A.I is a tremendous help in day-today life and is helping to improve technology, especially with graphic design programs.

CVCC Esports Design Objective: Esports is so much more than just playing games. Its cornerstones sit upon a sense of competition and community, and the players form meaningful bonds with each other over time. This project’s goal is to make a gaming space that promotes the formation of those bonds with a perfect balance of comfort and competitiveness. Alongside the space, different marketing, and collateral items are featured, including a multimedia highlight reel, uniform system, and marketing collateral.

Design Brief: All of these things promote the Red Hawks Esports team by including the branding and color palette. The gaming space also includes multiple TV screens, with some forming a jumbotron in the center of the room. Another is placed on the outside of the space facing students in the Student Center. These screens display the live Twitch streams of the players and a video highlight reel when streams are not currently happening. The multimedia highlight reel video shows off different gaming moments from the players, information about their stream, how to join the team, and a player of the week/month spotlight. The new team uniforms feature a custom variation of the original Red Hawk logo with three stripes that continue from the top of the uniform to the bottoms. The back displays this same design, the player’s gamertag and name. The sponsors’ logos are placed on the back of the sleeves. The uniforms are made out of polyester and completed using a dye sublimation process. The swag collateral items all feature pieces of the unique designs from the space, such as the variant Red Hawk, the gaming controller pattern, and all of the Red Hawk colors and branding.

App UX Design Design Objective: This project’s goal was to design an app that solved a problem. This new app Chewsy takes all the problems and complications of deciding where to eat and turns it into a quick and easy process.

Design Brief: The app is designed in a very playful and cartoon style and includes personified foods and other icons. Chewsy starts with making a profile, then a group of people can all connect using a room code so they can all connect digitally. Next, each person answers a series of quick, easy questions that help to break down the decision-making process. Afterward, the app takes each user’s data and compiles into one collective outcome. Chewsy also takes into account the restaurant’s hours, contact information, availability, location, and directions. The best option is then presented to all users. The prototype of this app was built in Adobe XD, and utilizes UI/UX design. Chewsy considers every possibility, preference, and all the opposing opinions.

Icon Poster Design Objective: This project started with designing an icon set and poster around the theme “Break a Leg.” This Infographic Poster displays five icons that represent five record-breaking musicals, including The Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, The Lion King, and Hamilton.

Design Brief: The five primary icons all feature the main character(s) from each musical. These are all done in a minimalistic, simplified style, resulting in a consistent series. The background of the poster features a graphic stage, curtains, and spotlights. The spotlights are also arranged to create a star with the negative space. This also helps to draw the viewer’s eyes toward the center. The typography of “Break a Leg” was chosen because it resembles the Broadway sign lights seen above musical showings. The secondary typeface of “record-breaking musicals” and all the text at the bottom was chosen for its fun, flowing type that complements the main typography.

Motion Graphics Design Objective: The purpose of this project was to create a multimedia video using Adobe After Effects that would be used for advertisement and marketing.

Design Brief: This looping video may seem simple but its complexity lies within the separate layers, colors, and shapes that make up its construction. These items include the earth, moon, and stars iconography and the logo. This logo is used for Red Rocket, a fictional preschool business. This brand uses very simplistic shapes and vibrant colors. The motion graphics feature the earth and moon rotating in orbit which creates one collective looping video.

Drive-In Theater and Arcade Design Objective: FlashBack, a fictional drive-in theater and arcade, combines the retro and nostalgic aspects of watching movies with today’s quality and technology to create the best movie experience.

Design Brief: Every aspect of FlashBack reflects a 1980’s style, including the branding, arcade, and concessions. The drive-in is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Its name refers to experiencing a nostalgic feeling of decades past. The branding of this company revolves around the retro style including the color choices, typography, and overall look. Alongside this company’s brand are various digital marketing components including social media and a website. This is in the interest of reaching the whole target audience, which ranges from adults who remember the 1980s, to families, and even young adults. FlashBack wants to also reach people outside of its state, which is why digital marketing is so crucial. Although the business is built on a throwback style, the website and social accounts are up to date, easy to use, and easily accessible, while still using the retro style.

Measuring Success Design Objective: The goal was to create a logo from a graphically reduced object, which in this case, is a tape measure. Measuring Success is a program dedicated to helping individuals in their quest for starting a business.

Design Brief: The logo depicts a tape measure, which shows the type “Measuring Success” on the tape, and the tagline: “build a better business” underneath. The colors were chosen specifically as they represent success and hard work. Yellow represents construction, hardware, and tools. The dark blue is associated with success, achievement, and graduation. Digital marketing and a business plan to help advertise and spread the word. This includes a website and social media. Another digital component to the branding is an animated variant of the logo, which shows the tape and typography extending out from the tape measure.

Catawba Farms Labels Design Objective: This project’s goals was to design a bold new label series, designs, packaging, and advertising collateral for Catawba Farms.

Design Brief: The new label design started with taking a look at the existing brand and style of Catawba Farms. It is also important that the label design stands out, but stays consistent with the existing style. The label design style is very relaxed, colorful, and vivid. The primary shapes featured on the labels are very loose and free-form, which not only contribute to the new style but also imply a resemblance to the SCOBY and bacteria used to make kombucha and jun. Located inside the shapes are icons representing various ingredients, such as honeycomb patterns and tea leaves. Lastly, icons specific to each flavor are used for an interchangeable and personalized look between each label. This way, all of the labels can stay cohesive and continue to expand with new flavors in the future. All of the collateral feature these icons and shapes, and the packaging and coasters feature free-form, custom shapes.
